Recap of Pretty Little Liars Season 6 Episode 4: Charles' Secret Is Revealed!

Posted:

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS - This just in: Jason DiLaurentis grew up with an "imaginary" friend named Charles, and now he might be a real-life murderer who specializes in harassing teenagers. In other words, Jason's childhood is officially ruined!

This week on "Pretty Little Liars," the girls tried to get to the bottom of Charles' real identity, all while dealing with the typical problems every teenager faces. You know, like dating middle-aged coffee shop owners who used to stalk you / trying to recover from that time you were taken hostage for a month. The usual.

You Guessed It: Charles Is Ali's Brother

Last week, Alison and Jason asked their dad point-blank who Charles was, and his completely insane answer? Charles is Ali's older brother who was institutionalized at Radley Sanatorium thanks to the fact that he tried to kill Baby Ali. #ItsCasual

Word on the street is that Charles killed himself at 16, but the liars are convinced that this dude is still alive and well, so they head to a data center to find his patient files. Unfortunately, they don't discover anything about Charles' alleged death, but they do find out that his Aunt Carol was a frequent visitor to Radley. This, combined with the fact that Jason remembers his mom hiding someone at Carol's house, inspires the liars to pay the ramshackle pad a visit. Their discovery? Charles' grave. Hmmm, if this guy is really RIP status, why is A impersonating him?

STOP EVERYTHING: SPENCER IS ADDICTED TO POT BROWNIES

As we all know, Spencer's addicted to pills. But now that she's run dry, she's all about living #ThatPotBrownieLyfe thanks to Ezra's new barista, Sabrina. This girl bakes Spencer a batch of cookies to help her deal with some anxiety problems (she's worried she killed someone while in captivity, sigh), which gives Ezra a great opportunity to mansplain the dangers of drugs. Clearly, he did well in D.A.R.E.
In other news, Hanna feels like Caleb's being too over-protective (uhm, more like he's the only person in this town who cares that she was abducted), and she asks him to give her space. If the "PLL" powers that be break up these two, Tuesday nights will be dead to us.

And speaking of dead, do you ever wonder where Aria's parents are? Because aside from the occasional appearance from her mom who could not be more zoned out, Aria's basically living alone in an attic. That said, Aria's dad, Byron, does make a rare appearance this week, because he's finally realized that his daughter is a victim of attempted murder. Father of the year!

Sara Is Creepy. That is All.

Wondering what Emily's new feral roommate is up to? Sara and her questionable haircut spend most of the episode skulking around Rosewood creeping everyone out, but she and Emily share a tender moment swimming in a public pool. How sweet! Actually, never mind, we definitely think she's evil and could possibly be an A Squad henchman. (By the way, A has tracking devices on all the liars right now, and he's watching their every move.)

Burning Questions...
1. Is Charles alive or dead? It's so confusing, we just can't.
2. Is Spencer going to become a drug addict, and if so, are we going to get an "I'm so excited, I'm so excited, I'm so scared" moment?
3. What's the deal with Sara -- is she working for Charles?
4. Ezra's barely been in the show and his relationship with Aria is almost non-existent. Are the producers getting ready to write him off?

Maya Rudolph's Rachel Dolezal Impression Is Hilariously Perfect

Posted:

maya rudolph, rachel dolezalIf you've been thinking that it's too bad that Maya Rudolph is no longer a member of the "Saturday Night Live" cast, you're not alone. If you've been thinking that that's too bad because she'd do a killer impression of Rachel Dolezal, you're still not alone.

During a recent visit to "Late Night with Seth Meyers," Rudolph revealed that she's told on a daily basis that she should do a Dolezal impression. "The whole thing is very fascinating to me," Rudolph said of Dolezal's headline-making reimagining of her racial history.

Meyers replayed the painfully awkward clip that's been making the rounds of a local TV news reporter asking Dolezal point blank if she's a black woman, and the stunned Dolezal stuttering, looking confused and angry, and finally just walking away. Rudolph then produced a wig that she just happened to have with her, and did a spot-on, hilarious impression of Dolezal's wide-eyed reactions.

Rudolph's perfect impression is worth seeing for yourself. Check it out below. (Do you think we can convince Rudolph to come back to "SNL" to reprise it?)

New 'Heroes Reborn' Teaser Asks, 'Where Are the Heroes?'

Posted:

heroes rebornThe newest promo for NBC's "Heroes Reborn" asks the question, "Where are the heroes?"

While a more cynical viewer may reply that the network was probably just holding onto them for a bit until nostalgia demanded they return in a reboot/spinoff, this grim teaser will wipe the smile off of their face. The clip paints a dark picture of the earth, which has been transformed into a brutal, post-apocalyptic landscape befallen by natural disasters and chaos around every corner. As a creepy cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" plays in the background, we see the same phrase, over and over, in multiple languages, scribbled on buildings, drawn into elaborate murals, hastily written on signs above desperate-looking people: Where are the heroes?

They've been off the air since 2010, and apparently, off duty from their earth-saving, too. But as the first teaser indicated, there's a young girl who could perhaps provide some hope for the weary world, and she gets an eerie cameo in this new promo, too.

There's no sight of the rest of the cast -- which includes Jack Coleman, Zachary Levi, Masi Oka, and Greg Grunberg -- but this glimpse at the series's basic premise is enough to intrigue us. Check out the teaser below.

"Heroes Reborn" debuts on NBC on September 24.

'Independence Day' Sequel Gets 'Resurgence' Title, New Photo

Posted:

independence day resurgenceJust over a year from the film's release, Fox has announced a new, improved title for "Independence Day 2," and offered up the first photo from the long-awaited sequel.

The flick is now known as "Independence Day Resurgence," and what it's missing in punctuation (seriously, there should be a colon after "Day," right?), it more than makes up for in casting. Nearly every big name from the first film -- save for the glaring omission of too-expensive Will Smith -- is returning for the follow-up, including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, and Judd Hirsch.

Joining those familiar faces this time around are series newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Sela Ward (who's replacing Pullman as POTUS), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Joey King, and Maika Monroe. "Resurgence" centers around the people of Earth bracing for another alien attack, since the distress call that the first wave of aliens sent out during the invasion and ensuing battle in 1996's "Independence Day" is only just now reaching their home planet.

Perhaps Earth's defense in "Resurgence" involves a trip to the moon? That's certainly implied by this first image from the flick (below), which calls the pictured spacecraft a Moon Tug. We're not sure exactly what that means, but we can't wait to find out.

Tom Holland Is the New Spider-Man

Posted:

24th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala - Red CarpetMeet your new Spider-Man ... Tom Holland!

The 20-year-old British actor has been tapped to play the web slinger in both Marvel and Sony movies. Sony also announced that Jon Watts ("Cop Car") will direct Holland in a standalone Spider-Man movie.

The young actor is an up-and-comer who most notably starred in "The Impossible" with Naomi Watts. He next appears opposite Chris Hemsworth in Ron Howard's "In the Heart of the Sea."

In February, Marvel and Sony made the deal to share the character, and part of that deal was that Andrew Garfield would not return. So, Holland will first appear as Spidey in a Marvel movie, likely "Captain America: Civil War," which is currently filming. Spider-Man is a key figure in the comic books storyline that pits superheroes against each other.

Then, he'll star in a standalone film set for July 28, 2017, which will be helmed by Watts, also an up-and-comer who received acclaim when "Cop Car" debuted at Sundance earlier this year.

First 'Wet Hot American Summer' Trailer Is Camp-tastic!

Posted:

Wet Hot American SummerIt's summer, which means it's camp season!

Netflix released the first trailer for "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp," the prequel series to the 2001 cult fave movie. It's presented like an old VHS-taped commercial for Camp Firewood, which touts its many activities, like archery, drama, arts and crafts, and street dance. And of course, it's a place to make lasting friendships!

The trailer features brief glimpses of the series' many stars, including Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, and Molly Shannon.

When "Wet Hot American Summer" (the movie) first came out in 2001, many of the actors were still up-and-comers, but have now become some of Hollywood's biggest stars. While the movie was set on the last day of camp, the eight-episode series takes place on the first day. The joke is that the actors are now over a decade older, but will be playing the same characters earlier in the summer.

All eight episodes of "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp" will debut on Netflix on July 31.

'Eight Is Enough' Dad Dick Van Patten Dead at 86

Posted:

Van Patten 1987Dick Van Patten, best known as the loving father on the '70s sitcom "Eight Is Enough," has died at the age of 86. People reported that Van Patten passed away this morning in a Santa Monica hospital from complications due to diabetes.

Van Patten was born in 1928 in Kew Gardens, Queens, and got an early start in acting, making his Broadway debut at the age of 7. After performing in a dozen other plays, he moved to Hollywood to make movies and TV shows. Van Patten starred in "Mama" from 1949-1957, then played patriarch Tom Bradford on "Eight Is Enough" from 1971-1981. He also appeared in episodes of "The Love Boat," "Sanford and Son," "Happy Days," "Arrested Development," and "Hot in Cleveland," as well as several Mel Brooks movies, including "Spaceballs" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights."

Rupert Friend Is a Stone-Cold Killer in 'Hitman: Agent 47' Trailer

Posted:

Hitman Agent 47Rupert Friend's assassin in "Hitman: Agent 47" might not have a name, but you can just call him "killer."

Fox released another trailer for the action flick based on the popular "Hitman" video game franchise, which explains the plot a bit more. "Homeland" star Friend plays 47, a genetically-engineered killing machine who is assigned to protect Katia (Hannah Ware). She turns out to be an assassin just like him, and evil corporate overlord Zachary Quinto wants her DNA to create the perfect army for himself.

This is the second movie adapted off the video games; Timothy Olyphant starred in 2007's "Hitman." The new one looks exactly like what you'd expect - lots of action, car chases, and slo-mo explosions. And it seems to be the perfect first leading role for Friend, who's proven he can play stoic killer on "Homeland."

"Hitman: Agent 47" opens in theaters August 21.

Best of Late Night TV: Seth MacFarlane's Wheel of Impressions, Ashley Tisdale's Twitter Feud With Andy Richter

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Seth MacFarlane is already known for his impressive vocal talents, so of course the "Family Guy" creator and "Ted 2" director was awesome at Jimmy Fallon's "Wheel of Impressions." Just watch him discuss Time Warner Cable as Liam Neeson (he has a very particular set of channels...), then take on Starbucks as Bobcat Goldthwait, and chat about movies as Ray Romano. All Bobcat impressions are gold, since there's almost no way to miss with that. Of course, these things are never random -- Seth already showed off his Liam impression in Moviefone's Unscripted last year, so they let him do it again.
In his own sit-down interview, Seth discussed how his father, a folk singer, could've been on the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson back in the 1970s but declined because he didn't want to "sell out." But Seth's dad was in the studio audience Monday night, so Jimmy said, technically, he did go on the show. Seth kept looking over to his dad in the audience, especially when discussing how his parents once told him it'll be normal for him to want to try drugs so they just asked that he do it in the house. Seth said he didn't smoke pot for the first time until he was 28, but there was one Thanksgiving when he and his sister brought pot into the house and the family smoked it together. A bonding moment!
Ashley Tisdale and Andy Richter cleared the air on "Conan" after their (adorable?) mini Twitter feud. The former Disney star now shoots "Clipped" on their studio lot, and Andy called her out on Twitter for a bad parking job. Ashley took a lot of heat for the photo Andy shared, and it turns out it wasn't even her car -- it was her co-star George Wendt's car. She parked in the "Cheers" alum's spot for some reason and he parked in hers. Andy felt bad when he realized it wasn't really Ashley's car, until he realized George parked there because Ashley took his spot. "Ashley parks wherever Ashley wants to park regardless of the names on the spot." Conan defended Ashley: "Andy wanders the lot like a stuck-up librarian looking for trouble." Andy said Ashley doesn't get it half as bad as those Pretty Little Liars -- "I'm always up their butts." (!) Judd Apatow was on "Conan" and dished on his 18-year marriage to Leslie Mann. What's the secret? It's not sex. He said he's not that good. "I'm always walking the line between impotence and premature ejaculation. The whole time. And I could go either way, you don't know which way I'm going to go, that's the fun part." That led into his theory that male porn stars seem stressed out.
Maya Rudolph told Seth Meyers she gets comments every day about Rachel Dolezal. People think she should play her in "Saturday Night Live" sketches. SNL isn't even airing right now, and Maya isn't part of the cast anymore, but if she were still on the show she'd probably be taking on that role. So they aired a clip of the real Rachel dodging a reporter's question and then Maya put on a wig and did her version. Not really that funny, but yeah this is the kind of thing SNL would be having fun with if it were in season.
Joe Manganiello talked about making "Magic Mike XXL" and the real-life documentary on male strippers. It doesn't sound that hot to shoot the same stripping scene over and over for four hours, just for 3 minutes of footage.
Andre Iguodala, NBA Finals MVP, was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and discussed his journey to MVP, what it's like to guard LeBron James, and his son's sweet trophy gift.
'Jimmy Kimmel Live!': Andre Iguodala On Becoming MVP and Guarding LeBron

Chris Tucker was on JKL too and talked about his Father's Day gift from his son; he spent the day watching "Good Times" with his family. Apparently Jimmy is a big "Good Times" fan as well. Alexander Hamilton visited Jimmy from the beyond to complain about his replacement on the $10 bill. Except it wasn't Hamilton, it was just a random dude from the 1700s who hates women. "It's the dollar BILL not the dollar JILL!"Every year, Jimmy Kimmel does a YouTube Challenge, and this year he asked viewers to serve their fathers breakfast in the shower for Father's Day. So many eggs thrown at these dads! They are all regretting having kids now.
