Shia LaBeouf Injures Head in Accident on Set

Posted:

Shia LaBeouf was hospitalized today after suffering a head injury in an accident on the North Dakota set of the movie "American Honey."

LaBeouf sustained the injury while filming a scene in which his character puts his head through a glass window. Something went terribly wrong, however, and the actor was cut on the head and hand. He was taken to the hospital, where TMZ reported he received 20 stitches and 13 staples. Afterward, LaBeouf was taken home to recover.

His rep released a statement: "Shia LaBeouf sustained minimal injuries late last night on the set of his current film, 'American Honey.' As protocol, production sought out medical attention and Shia received stitches on his hand and for a laceration on his head. He is due back on set tomorrow."

"American Honey" is a road movie from British filmmaker Andrea Arnold, about a teen girl who joins a traveling magazine sales crew and gets caught up in hard partying and law-breaking.

King has dozens of TV adaptations to his credit, including current CBS hit "Under the Dome," so we think now's a great time to look back at a few standouts. Will Ben Affleck Direct a Standalone Batman Movie?

Posted:

Opening Night Gala Presentation And World Premiere Of Warner Bros. may have found an Oscar-winning director to helm a "Batman" movie - and it's the same guy wearing the cape!

The latest rumor from Latino Review claims that Ben Affleck won't just play Batman, he'll also direct himself in a standalone movie titled "The Batman" slated for November 2018. The actor will make his debut as the character in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" next March, then reprise the role in a cameo in "Suicide Squad" in August 2016. He's also set to be a big part of "Justice League: Part One" in November 2017.

But with "Justice League: Part Two" scheduled for 2019, that does leave room for a potential "Batman" standalone movie. When Affleck was cast as the iconic caped crusader, everyone speculated that Warner Bros. wanted him to direct - possibly one of the "Justice League" films.

Also making this rumor even more viable is the fact that the studio hired "Argo" writer Chris Terrio to pen both "Justice League" movies. He could be brought on board to write "The Batman."

As with all rumors, take this one with a heaping tablespoon of salt. But

The 25 Best Kids' Movies of All Time

Posted:

Those who think they've outgrown kids' movies should mourn for their shriveled hearts. Because with few exceptions, every moviegoer starts out watching family films -- usually animated ones with catchy scores and a heart-tugging message. The best kids' movies unite generation after generation of film lovers who know a good story when they see it.

We're celebrating the very best (with a bit of a bias toward movies from the past 30 years) in the family genre with this list of 25 movies. Even though we could've easily picked 25 completely different movies (or just focused on Disney/Pixar picks), we've chosen a varied slate of classics and contemporary masterpieces that that embody what we love most about children's movies.

How the New Spider-Man Will Fit Into the Marvel Universe

Posted:

Spider-ManThe news that young British actor Tom Holland had been cast as the new Spider-Man kicked off quite a bit of talk about how the character would fit into the Marvel Universe. Holland will be introduced as Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War," as confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who also clarified just how a "Spider-Man" movie will fit in with the rest of the Phase 3 films.

"We're producing it for Sony. It's exciting, and we're treating it like we treat all of our films," Feige told the Hollywood Reporter. "To try to make the best version now of Spider-Man and a version of Spider-Man that inhabits this universe that we've created. We're in lockstep with [Sony Motion Picture Group chairman] Tom Rothman and [producer] Amy Pascal at every turn."

Feige added, "We wouldn't want to do it if we couldn't do it in the way we've done all the other movies, and I think that's what Sony wants from us."

So, Spider-Man will be a key part of the Marvel-verse - and not just by writing the web slinger into "Captain America: Civil War" or "Avengers: Infinity Wars." Characters from Marvel movies could cross over into the standalone "Spider-Man" film.

"Specifics of the story aside, the agreement that has been made between Sony and Marvel is that we could do that," Feige noted.

Wonder what Aunt May would think of Iron Man? Maybe the Green Goblin and Hulk could trade skincare tips?

J.K. Rowling Reveals New Dursley Backstory, Including Awful James Potter Dinner

Posted:

Christmas has come again, Harry Potter fans! Author J.K. Rowling just shared magical new character details on Pottermore, in honor (sort of) of Dudley Dursley's birthday. If you head to the cupboard under the stairs on Pottermore, you can unlock more backstory on Harry Potter's Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, who met at work when Petunia left home to take a typing course in London. Once Vernon proposed, Petunia accepted at once but she confessed the truth about her sister's magical abilities on "a tear-stained date," fearing his disapproval.

Here's the full description of what happened when Lily Evans brought her boyfriend James Potter to meet Petunia and her new fiancé Vernon:

The first meeting between Lily, her boyfriend James Potter, and the engaged couple, went badly, and the relationship nose-dived from there. James was amused by Vernon, and made the mistake of showing it. Vernon tried to patronise James, asking what car he drove. James described his racing broom. Vernon supposed out loud that wizards had to live on unemployment benefit. James explained about Gringotts, and the fortune his parents had saved there, in solid gold. Vernon could not tell whether he was being made fun of or not, and grew angry. The evening ended with Vernon and Petunia storming out of the restaurant, while Lily burst into tears and James (a little ashamed of himself) promised to make things up with Vernon at the earliest opportunity.

"This never happened. Petunia did not want Lily as a bridesmaid, because she was tired of being overshadowed; Lily was hurt. Vernon refused to speak to James at the reception, but described him, within James' earshot, as 'some kind of amateur magician'. Once married, Petunia grew ever more like Vernon. She loved their neat square house at number four, Privet Drive. She was secure, now, from objects that behaved strangely, from teapots that suddenly piped tunes as she passed, or long conversations about things she did not understand, with names like 'Quidditch' and 'Transfiguration'. She and Vernon chose not to attend Lily and James' wedding. The very last piece of correspondence she received from Lily and James was the announcement of Harry's birth, and after one contemptuous look, Petunia threw it in the bin."

Rowling also shared background on how she chose the names Vernon and Petunia, and revealed elsewhere that the Vernon's dislike for Harry comes, in part, "like Severus Snape's, from Harry's close resemblance to the father they both so disliked." Here are a few more Pottermore updates.

What do you think about these occasional tidbits? Do you love learning more about Harry's world or wish Rowling would let it rest?

The 'Suicide Squad' Is 'Ready for Battle' in Director's New Set Photos

Posted:

It's on! The super villain movie "Suicide Squad" -- starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Scott Eastwood, and 100 other cool people -- is still filming with director David Ayer at the helm. A bunch of cast and character photos were previously released by Ayer, and then several action shots were leaked while they filmed on the streets of Toronto. After the leaks, Ayer said the movie's surprises were still intact, and he went dark on Twitter for a bit. But now he's back, tweeting a few new set photos, including this one hinting to a major action scene:
That's some serious firepower. Speaking of serious, here's a shot of some serious hardware, presumably also from the "Suicide Squad" set:
And here's a badass in shadow in what may or may not be a tease for Slade Wilson/Deathstroke:
Rumor has it that Scott Eastwood will play Deathstroke, who is not to be confused with Will Smith's Deadhshot. Thoughts on the battle ahead for this crew? "Suicide Squad" has an August 5, 2016 release date.

Kit Harington Joins 'Game of Thrones' Co-Star in New Movie, Replacing Robert Pattinson

Posted:

Full potential spoiler disclosure: We do not believe Jon Snow's watch has ended on "Game of Thrones" but he did get stabbed in the Season 5 finale, so we're rolling with his official death announcement for the moment. But Melisandre better revive him. Speaking of Jon and Mel, though, GoT co-stars Kit Harington (Jon) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre) will reunite in the new movie "Brimstone." Kit was just announced as joining the cast of Martin Koolhoven's movie, which also stars Dakota Fanning and Guy Pearce.
According to Deadline, Dakota stars as Liz, who is on the run from Guy's diabolical Preacher. Principle production has already begun and it's shooting on location in Romania, Spain and Germany. E! said Kit will play an outlaw, replacing Robert Pattinson in the role, with Dakota replacing Mia Wasikowska.

No word yet on when that will be released, but you may have noticed that Kit also shot a hilarious-looking tennis mockumentary called "7 Days in Hell." That co-stars Andy Samberg and it'll debut on HBO on July 11. Here's that trailer:

Amy Schumer Has Real Princess Problems in Disney Spoof With Tim Gunn

Posted:

What girl doesn't dream of being rescued from her humdrum life and taken to a castle to be a princess? "Inside Amy Schumer" skewers that dream a bit in a new sketch, starring Amy as a filthy commoner whose life changes when she gets a visit from ... Tim Gunn! All "Project Runway" fans long for that day, but here he plays Willoughby, a royal attaché who informs Amy that she's really a princess. But as a real princess, Amy has to keep bloodlines pure so her prince isn't a dashing handsome guy, it's ... Amy as a dude, aka her first cousin.

Amy to Willoughby: "Turns out I'm not really comfortable sleeping with a close relative. And, also, I just turned 14."

Later, in true Henry VIII fashion, Amy is put on the chopping block for failing to produce a male heir, then the commoners stage a revolution and execute the princess Marie Antoinette style.

So maybe (gasp) Disney is not that historically accurate when it comes to royal girls marrying Prince Charmings and living happily ever after. But they're obviously right about everything else.

Channing Tatum Was Forced to Be G.I. Joe: 'I F--king Hate That Movie'

Posted:

Well, they say knowing is half the battle -- and now you know the truth: Channing Tatum f--king hated "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra." He never wanted to be G.I. Joe. He's embarrassed to have been a part of it. He only did the blockbuster because the studio would've sued him if he said no. So what you really need to know is not to sign long-term contracts unless you're ready to sell out your dignity.

The topic came up when Channing was promoting "Magic Mike XXL" on Howard Stern's show, and Howard brought up the millions than Chan's "G.I. Joe" made. They noticed that Channing sounded embarrassed about it, and he admitted he was. Here's his story:

Look, I'll be honest. I f--king hate that movie. I hate that movie. I was pushed into doing that movie. From 'Coach Carter,' they signed me for a three-picture deal. [...] I'm sitting there and they give you the contract and they go, 'Three-picture deal, here you go.' And as a young [actor], you're like, 'Oh my god, yeah, that sounds amazing, I'm doing that!' ... Even the options go from X amount of money -- it was like 60 grand to 80 grand to, like, 100 grand. I'm like 'Oh my god that's so much money.' Even if I just got one other of those movies, I'm good. So time goes by and you get other jobs ... and things happen and then you have a dream job that you want to go do. And the studio calls up and they're like, 'Hey, we've got a movie for you, we're going to send it to you.' And they send it to you. It was right during the writer's strike and it's G.I. Joe."

He said he loves G.I. Joe but he wanted to play Snake Eyes. They said no, you have to be Duke. Howard Stern pointed out that so many people would be thrilled because it's G.I. Joe and he got the lead role. But Channing continued...

The script wasn't any good and I was like I don't want to do something that -- 1) I'm a fan of since I was a kid, I watched it every morning growing up. I didn't want to do something that I thought was 1) bad, and 2) I just didn't know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe."

Howard pointed out that Mark Wahlberg was originally attached to "G.I. Joe" but he was considered too old for the role. Channing quipped that maybe he should've done his Mark Wahlberg impression to get out of it. But Howard loved the movie, and Channing admitted he was "super lucky and blessed to have been given that film" and it wasn't really that bad. But he only did it because of his contractual obligation. (That happens a lot.)

Check out more clips from the show over here. Chan just opened up on all kinds of subjects -- including how Emilia Clarke (the Khaleesi on "Game of Thrones") offered herself to Channing and his wife for a threesome. That would be Dracarys as hellllll!

Creepy 'Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension' Trailer Promises Final Answers

Posted:

Bloody Mary! Bloody hell! Bloody finally -- the "Paranormal Activity" franchise is officially ending this October with "The Ghost Dimension" and the first official trailer was just released. Producer Jason Blum promised that this movie will answer all of the mythology questions from the past films, and the trailer states, "For the first time you will see the activity" and "Every secret will be revealed." But even if you haven't been following any of the mysteries, you can just watch it for the "There's something behind you..." scares and more shots of people looking into mirrors as the reflections do their own things.

Check it out:

"Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension" follows a new family and their young daughter who move into a house (bad idea - never move in a movie, especially with kids!) and discover a video camera and a box of tapes in the garage. They start watching the tapes, which are at least 20 years old, and one of them features a little girl with the impressive talent to know when to say "bless you" when you sneeze in real time. At least these creepy ghost children are polite...

"The Ghost Dimension" comes out on October 23, just in time for Halloween scares. If you want to prepare, you can rewatch the past movies, from 2007's "Paranormal Activity" to the 2010 sequel, the 2011 one after that, and the 2012 one after that.

First 'Walking Dead' Season 6 Poster Teases Team Rick vs. Team Morgan

Posted:

So much for that King County bromance. "The Walking Dead" Season 6 starts in October, but AMC just released the first poster/banner/key art in advance of July's San Diego Comic-Con 2015, where the cast and crew will once again dominate Hall H with an awesome promo and zero answers on what actually happens in the 16 episodes ahead. But this first poster does give us some strong hints.

The image shows Season 1 besties Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Morgan Jones (Lennie James), almost butting heads, but also almost leaning into each other's foreheads in that I LOVE YOU MAN bromance way. They are looking past each other, heavily hinting to two sides being taken in Season 6 -- Rick's Atlanta OGs and new friends to the left, and the Alexandrians to the right, led possibly by Rick's old savior Morgan but also including Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam). Apparently he is not done betraying Rick's group. Shocker.

It's interesting to see who is singled out and placed where in the image. We have Rick at center with his other bromance buddy Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) behind him, then Glenn (Steven Yeun), Maggie (Lauren Cohan ), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Carol (Melissa McBride, still in Cookie Mom attire), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Tara (Alanna Masterson). They are standing by the Alexandria wall and burned lookout tower, where Sasha occasionally likes to lose her mind. No baby Judith, but that poor kid rarely makes it into the promo material.

To the right we have Morgan and his "all life is precious" mantra fronting Team Alexandria, with Deanna Monroe (Toval Fedshuh) behind him (interesting that she's behind him) next to Rick's new girlfriend Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge), Aaron (Ross Marquand) the recruiter, and Spencer Monroe (Austin Nichols), whom we didn't see too much in Season 5. Austin Nichols may finally get to do something this season, which is good. (Does he look angry in this pic? Maybe he's going to blame Rick and company for what happened to his brother and father.)

The cropped version really focuses in on Rick, Morgan, Daryl, Deanne, Jessie, and FG, but at least we see the others in the background. The full banner -- see it here in all its glory -- also reveals the locations around them and a ton of sky above. Is there significance to the amount of air they left above them?
Season 5 ended with Rick killing Pete (on Deanna's order/request) and Morgan walking in on the action, flanked by Daryl and Aaron. Morgan's perspective has changed drastically since the last time we saw him "clear" back in Season 3. He is now a no-kill Jedi master and Rick is fully in kill-or-die mode. However, Season 5 also ended with The Wolves in possession of the Alexandria map, so they know where our group is and seemed poised to attack. They are nowhere to be found in this first poster, but the wall is there and we're worried about this team working together if/when The Wolves attack and the wall is breached.

AMC also added that "The Walking Dead" Comic Con panel will take place Friday, July 10 at 12:00 pm PDT in Hall H. So that's when we should get the massive trailer that is usually based on the first five or six episodes but still never actually tells us as much as we think it does. They haven't even finished shooting most of the episodes -- the Episode 8 midseason finale probably won't be shot until August and the finale will be filmed toward the end of November.

Are you excited for TWD Season 6? "Fear the Walking Dead" will show up first in August, but this is the showdown we're really pumped about.

'Mr. Robot' Has Serious Potential for Greatness

Posted:

rami malek in mr robotUSA, a network known best for its original shows starring suave men in nice clothes (think "Burn Notice," "Suits," "Graceland," etc.) and seemingly never-ending marathons of "Law and Order: SVU," appears to be going in a much different and much more intriguing direction with its new series, "Mr. Robot."

On "Mr. Robot," you will not find a muscle-y hero with quick reflexes and even quicker comebacks. Instead you'll find Elliot (Rami Malek), a quiet tech geek with serious social anxiety. By day, he works as a cybersecurity programmer at the same firm as his childhood friend (and possible love interest), Angela (Portia Doubleday); by night, he's a hacker vigilante out to right what he sees as the world's many wrongs. Through an internal monologue running throughout the episode, we find out more about Elliot's disillusioned view of the world and the people who run it. Enemy number one in Elliot's eyes is E Corp (or "Evil Corp," as he likes to call it), a large financial corporation that is conveniently seeking out tech security from Elliot's employer's firm. After tracking down an attempted hack into E Corp's cybersecurity, Elliot meets the titular Mr. Robot (Christian Slater), an odd, mysterious leader of a team of hackers determined to take down E Corp and save every citizen from debt. Mr. Robot eventually invites Elliot to join his hacker gang, leading Elliot into a significant moral dilemma.

Visually, the show is excellent. It's perfectly dark and shadowy and ominous, bringing to mind the likes of David Fincher (Interestingly enough, the director of the "Mr. Robot" pilot, Niels Arden Oplev, directed the original "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" movie. The later American adaptation was directed by -- you guessed it -- David Fincher). Malek is great too, bringing a very likable quality to such a closed-off and antisocial character. Despite his sometimes-questionable choices, you really want Elliot to win and stay safe in the process. He's a new anti-hero for the post-"Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men" era.

The only part of the show that didn't quite grab me was Mr. Robot and his hacktivist team. They felt a little stale and obvious. Of course, they all wear funky clothes and have strange personalities and work out of an abandoned carnival at Coney Island! They're hackers, and that's what hackers do! My hope is that they either develop a more interesting and unique persona as a group or they fade into the background, simply a vehicle for Elliot to go deeper into the dark recesses of E Corp.

What makes the show really intriguing is the use of Elliot's internal monologue. Since we're seeing everything from his point of view, his thoughts permeate the landscape, creating a narration that might not necessarily be honest or reliable. For example, once Elliot identifies E Corp as "Evil Corp," the new moniker is all we see and hear. Even characters that seem like they wouldn't dare besmirch the name of E Corp are seen using the new name. In the "real world," they likely didn't, but in Elliot's world, it's commonplace.

In one scene with Elliot's therapist, we learn that he claims to see men in black following him around. We see them too, but it's never entirely clear whether or not they really exist. If these men are potential delusions, could Mr. Robot and his team even be real? Is any of it real? Out of all of the questions raised in this first episode, I found these to be the most compelling. They're the ones that will keep me watching, to see what Elliot does -- or thinks he does -- next.

Best of Late Night TV: Channing Tatum's Kid Theater, Jon Hamm Was Fired From Lizzy Caplan Pilot

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

What does "Magic Mike" mean to an 8-year-old? It's time to find out, in the most adorable way possible. Channing Tatum was on "The Tonight Show" and he and Jimmy Fallon re-enacted scenes from Chan's movie, "Magic Mike XXL." The catch, though, was that the scenes were not from the male stripper movie, it was another round of Kid Theater, where kids were just given the name "Magic Mike" and asked to write scenes on the topic. Interestingly enough, even innocent magic references are loaded with "pumping" and "blow" sexual innuendo. Are these scenes ever really written by children or just childish adults?
Channing also shared a story from the "Magic Mike XXL" set. When they were shooting the finale, Joe Manganiello ripped his bicep but kept going 'cause they didn't really know what happened. Beast mode!
Lizzy Caplan and Jon Hamm were both on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and it unexpectedly turned into magic. Side note: There was a whole Gummy Bear theme, with Jon throwing a bears into Jimmy's mouth. Watch that first:
Then Lizzy came out for her interview, chewing a Gummy for a while before she spit it out into Jimmy's hand -- and Jimmy ate it. (Gross!) Lizzy said, since she was the second guest, she understood that it implied that she was less famous than Jon and he's better than her - but she could prove that he was not better than her. Jon ran back out on stage for another Gummy Bear and Lizzy had him stay next to her for the rest of the story. Lizzy and Jon first met 10 years ago when they were shooting a pilot for the WB. One of them got fired. Jon: "Spoiler alert ... it wasn't Lizzy." They just went in a different direction -- they recast his role with an actress who is more often a writer. Lizzy mocked: "He was the guy on a girl WB show and he still got fired -- that's not easy!" Poor Jon. At least he landed on his feet. And at least he's ridiculously good-looking. That can't hurt.
'Jimmy Kimmel Live!': Lizzy Caplan Says She's Better Than Jon Hamm

After that, with Jon still out there in his own chair, Lizzy talked about all the sex on "Masters of Sex" and how Jimmy's ex-girlfriend (Sarah Silverman) is on the show, having sex with a woman, and there are so many other cross relationships. Jimmy: "That actually upsets me because for years I asked her to have sex with a woman and she said no."
Andy Richter is one of our favorite people to ever exist, so it's always a good night when he gets a showcase. Yesterday he had a Twitter feud with Ashley Tisdale and today he and Lauren Graham were just talking about "Celebrity Jeopardy" buzzer tips when the furniture gave up on Andy. So Conan O'Brien came over to show the broken chair leg. "What kind of sh-tty show is this?!" Andy admitted he broke the couch before, too.
Here are Colin Quinn and Conan appreciating how Boston keeps it real - rude - while New York and L.A. have changed.

'Titanic' Composer James Horner Confirmed Dead in Plane Crash

Posted:

2011 Doha Tribeca Film Festival - Day 3SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) - James Horner, who composed music for dozens of films and won two Oscars for his work on "Titanic," died when his plane crashed in Southern California, his agents confirmed Tuesday. He was 61.

Agents Michael Gorfaine and Sam Schwartz issued a statement saying Horner had died, although official confirmation could take several days while the Ventura County coroner works to identify the remains of the pilot, who was the only person on board.

People who fueled the plane at an airport in Camarillo confirmed that he took off in the aircraft Monday morning, said Horner's attorney, Jay Cooper.

The S-312 Tucano MK1 turboprop crashed and burned in a remote area of the Los Padres National Forest, about 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Horner's credits ran the gamut From big-budget blockbusters to foreign-language indies. He even composed the theme song for the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric."

His work was nominated for 10 Academy Awards. He won two for 1997's best picture, "Titanic," for the movie score and its enduring theme song, "My Heart Will Go On," sung by Celine Dion. It became a best-seller.

"We will always remember his kindness and great talent that changed my career," Dion said in a statement on her website.

He has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards honoring his work on "Alien," ''Apollo 13," ''Field of Dreams," ''Braveheart," ''A Beautiful Mind," ''House of Sand and Fog" and "Avatar," and for his original song, "Somewhere Out There," from "An American Tail."

"The 'Avatar' community has lost one of our great creative lights with the passing of James Horner," James Cameron and Jon Landau, who respectively directed and produced "Avatar," said in a statement. "James' music was the air under the banshees' wings, the ancient song of the forest, and the heartbeat of Eywa. We have lost not only a great team-mate and collaborator, but a good friend. James' music affected the heart because his heart was so big."

"My Heart Will Go On" hit No. 1 around the world and become the best-selling single of 1998. The National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Industry Association of America included it among its "Songs of the Century" rankings.

A pianist since age 5, Horner studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the University of Southern California, eventually earning graduate degrees at the University of California, Los Angeles.

He got his start composing for movies by scoring shorts for the American Film Institute. His first commercial credits came from Roger Corman, who hired Horner to score several films in the 1980s, including "Humanoids from the Deep" and "Battle Beyond the Stars."

Horner discussed his approach to making music while working on "Avatar."

"To me, writing and composing are much more like painting, about colors and brushes," he told the Los Angeles Times in 2009. "I don't use a computer when I write and I don't use a piano. I'm at a desk writing and it's very broad strokes and notes as colors on a palette. I think very abstractly when I'm writing. Then as the project moves on it becomes more like sculpting."

Horner was known for including passages from his earlier compositions and from other composers in his work.

Horner's collaborators included George Lucas, Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg and Oliver Stone. Horner worked many times with Cameron, with whom he often discussed the role of music in film.

"My job ... is to make sure at every turn of the film it's something the audience can feel with their heart," Horner said in 2009. "When we lose a character, when somebody wins, when somebody loses, when someone disappears - at all times I'm keeping track, constantly, of what the heart is supposed to be feeling."

Horner also wrote the score for the "Southpaw," a boxing drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal that comes out July 24.
