Posted: 07 Jan 2015 11:00 PM PST Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture today: There is a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series coming soon, but here's what it would look like as a retro Hanna-Barbera cartoon (via GOTG director James Gunn): Watch a video tribute to Terrence Malick and all his recurring motifs, shots and themes (via Press Play): Artist Yanmo Zhang saw Duncan Jones's Warcraft trailer at BlizzCon and has drawn up some of its visuals and provides descriptions for fans who weren't so lucky. Go to Geek Tyrant for more. Awkward comedy and trite misunderstandings abound in this NSFW supercut of people saying "It's not what it looks like" in the movies: Never mind Robin... Meet Your New Favorite Online Movie Reference Guide Posted: 07 Jan 2015 09:30 PM PST There are plenty of websites that we movie geeks use on a regular basis, almost as much as we use our own brains and hands. IMDb is like another limb for some of us, as is Box Office Mojo. Rotten Tomatoes is plenty handy, too (not just for review aggregation, either). But while we'll never give up those old standbys, it's always neat when shiny new toys come into play and attempt to join the lot. The latest and potentially the greatest in a while is The Projection List. This site is sleek and simple, providing a few separate calendars of movie releases heading to cinemas ("theatrical"), VOD ("direct-to-home") and DVD/Blu-ray/Digital Download ("retail"). It's all U.S. dates, and it appears to be pretty exhaustive for all known openings and... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Marvel Studios Countdown: How TV's 'Agent Carter' Connects to the Big-Screen Cinematic Universe Posted: 07 Jan 2015 08:30 PM PST I’m beginning to think of Marvel TV as frozen-dinner lasagna to Marvel Studios’ carefully homemade lasagna. They’re sort of the same dish, but they’re not. One is noticeably cheaper. It does a serviceable job reminding you of the good stuff. Sometimes it hits the spot, sometimes it doesn’t, but it never ever beats the real thing. Agent Carter, an eight-episode miniseries that shines a spotlight on Hayley Atwell’s character from the Captain America films, should be counted as a success but not a transcendent one. Before we get into the merits of the show, let’s jump into the little tidbits that paint the broader picture between the source comics and the Marvel cinematic universe continuity. One of the more obvious nods in the first... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 07 Jan 2015 07:00 PM PST As we continue through the thick of award season, there are still no definite front-runners but at least the contenders are consistent from one organization to the next. This week we can add the nominees for the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) and Producers Guild of America honors, and there's a good deal of overlap between them and the SAG Award nominees announced last month, including Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Imitation Game, all of which have been recognized in triplicate. Notably absent from the WGA bunch, though, is The Theory of Everything. Apparently it wasn't qualified. And that's great, because in its slot (or the slot you'd expect to be filled by other adaptations like Inherent Vice or Under the Skin) is Guardians of the Galaxy... It's 2015, So Nike Has an Update on Those 'Back to the Future II' Power-Lacing Sneakers Posted: 07 Jan 2015 05:37 PM PST As soon as the clock struck midnight and 2015 strolled into our lives, various sites and news media were all over the connection between the year and the Back to the Future sequel in which Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc (Christopher Lloyd) travel from the '80s to the year 2015 because, as Doc warns Marty, "Something's got to be done about your kids!" Not surprisingly, director Robert Zemeckis' vision of 2015 is a bit different from the real 2015 -- most notably there are no flying cars and the Jaws franchise is (thankfully) not releasing its 19th installment. But some stuff is close to actually happening, and of course we're talking about those spiffy power-lacing Nike shoes that Marty rocks out in the movie. Fans have been on Nike for years to... See How One Devilish 'Jaws' Fan Celebrated the Birth of His Friend's New Baby Posted: 07 Jan 2015 04:44 PM PST When your friend has a kid, you usually buy them some little thing off their baby registry and call it a day. Well not this guy. When his buddy welcomed a new baby, sculptor Joseph Reginella decided to create something unique and memorable for the child inspired by one of his favorite movies, Steven Spielberg's Jaws. The results -- a menacing re-creation of the film's ending... but as a baby's crib -- are both awesome and terrifying at the same time, and one look at the image above tells you that this little one wasn't so impressed by his or her new digs. Things seem to start off pretty well -- all snuggled up in the new shark crib, smiling for the camera. Then baby opens those eyes and is all like, "Holy crap where am I and what... You'll Love This: Watch Jimmy Fallon Learn Nicole Kidman Used to Have a Crush on Him Posted: 07 Jan 2015 03:52 PM PST Imagine having a random encounter with a beautiful, way-out-of-your-league celebrity a long time ago, then suddenly finding out years later that the celebrity in question actually had a crush on you and you totally blew it. That's exactly what happened to Jimmy Fallon recently when he had Nicole Kidman on The Tonight Show, and just watching Fallon slowly come to the realization that his younger, sloppier, video game-lovin' self had a shot at scoring with the one and only Nicole Kidman is, quite simply, priceless. Watch how it all went down below. If only he didn't love playing video games so much... what could have been! MORE FROM AROUND THE WEB: ZergNet (function() { var... Our experts have already weighed in on the most anticipated comic book movies, considered movies that might be the most surprising, and provided a list of 2015 movies that need to be on your radar. To further whet your appetite, USA Today has published a slew of new photos of even more 2015 releases. Will you be adding any of these to your own personal "must-see" movie list? Fifty Shades of Grey (February 13) Dakota Johnson -- or, at least, her mouth and fingers! -- gets the spotlight (above), which reflects the sensual angle of the marketing for a movie that needs to be really, really sexy to satisfy fans of the original book. Johnson is a charming actress, as she showed in the short-lived TV sitcom Ben and... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 07 Jan 2015 12:00 PM PST Deadpool: Ryan Reynolds is set to reprise his X-Men Origins: Wolverine role (above) as the title character in Marvel's Deadpool, which is now scheduled for release on February 12, 2016. But what's a modern superhero without a comic sidekick? Standup-comic-turned-actor T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction) is in early talks to play "an additional comic voice to compliment [sic] Deadpool." Ed Skrein (TV's The Transporter Legacy) may also be joining the cast; it's speculated he might be a villain. [The Wrap] Run All Night: Liam Neeson stars in the upcoming action-thriller Run All Night, and the first official photos show him in action in underground and outdoor shots. He plays a hit man known as "The Gravedigger" whose son... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
