What Movie Will Be the Biggest Surprise Success of 2015?

Posted: 05 Jan 2015 11:00 PM PST

We all know that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to be huge this year; the box office champion of 2015 for sure. Even if we only count its two weeks of release before the year is over. Other certain hits will be Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Inside Out, Mad Max: Fury Road, Jurassic World, Mission: Impossible 5, SPECTRE, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 2 and Furious 7. But what about the surprise successes? And the surprise favorites? This time last year, we figured Guardians of the Galaxy would be popular enough, given the track record of all things Marvel Studios, but nobody expected it to be the gargantuan critical and box office favorite that it is. We also didn't know 12 months ago that The Lego Movie would be so awesome. Basically, we had no...

Movies in Real Life: 'The Notebook' Marriage Proposal and a 'Beauty and the Beast' Challenge

Posted: 05 Jan 2015 07:30 PM PST

The movies are supposed to be our fantasy, but every now and then we try to mimic the magic of the silver screen in our real lives. Marriage proposals are a logical place for movie geeks to attempt such transcendence. There was that guy who dressed up as Spider-Man to ask his leading lady to marry him. And then there was the guy who reenacted a Jurassic Park scene for his proposal. And that time a guy made a whole movie trailer to do the deed in front of an audience. Oh, and there was the guy who proposed during a screening of Back to the Future from inside the actual movie. Now, via the Daily Mail, meet a couple whose wedded future together has begun with a special proposal on a private lake in London. The groom set everything up to get his bride-to-be into a row...

Watch Funny -- and Bloody -- Music-Video Parodies of 'Home Alone' and 'Saved by the Bell'

Posted: 05 Jan 2015 06:00 PM PST

Remember how funny the booby traps in Home Alone are? They're violent in a cartoonish way that makes Harry and Marv's injuries acceptable for general audiences. But when you consider the reality of the burns and bruises and falls and cuts and nails puncturing feet and BB gun shots to the crotch and face, that's some serious pain inflicted on the "wet bandits" -- not that they don't deserve it. To help illustrate how these scenes should have looked, albeit with some exaggeration that makes it cartoonish in another way, David Unger Music (aka D.U.M.) has released a new music video for a song called "Get Back" that parodies the movie's most violent moments. "It seems like Kevin McAllister killed those burglars 10 times...

Check Out Natalie Portman's Gun in the First 'Jane Got a Gun' Images

Posted: 05 Jan 2015 04:30 PM PST

Forget whatever troubles Jane Got a Gun had in the past. The Western, which went through last-minute changes in director and cast and crew back in 2013, has been shot and is set to open this September. Now, courtesy of Empire, we have the first look at the movie with images from a handful of scenes featuring leads Natalie Portman and Joel Edgerton and some shadowy figures that presumably include star villain Ewan McGregor. As you can see in the pic above, Portman is true to the title as a pistol-packing woman defending her home from a gang of outlaws. Her husband (Noah Emmerich) is a former member of the bunch, led by McGregor's character, but he's shot early on, leaving Jane to call on an old flame (Edgerton) to help deal with the baddies. The plot and pics remind of...

Got a Case of the Mondays? Spongebob Squarepants Is Here to Help!

Posted: 05 Jan 2015 03:15 PM PST

Perhaps the most depressing Monday of the year is actually the first Monday of the year because it's the day all of us must slowly come to terms with the fact that the holidays are over and it's time to go back to whatever it is we're supposed to be doing, be it school or work... or singing along to Spongebob Squarepants music videos. Oh, that's right! In advance of his new movie arriving in theaters on February 6, Spongebob Squarepants has declared today to be a Day of Positivity, and with that extra dose of positivity comes this new music video for a song that's all about how awesome Mondays are.  Because Mondays are just so... great. And super. And we love 'em! (Okay we don't like Mondays at all, but this video definitely put a smile on our...

New Images Prove 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Is This Year's Craziest Movie

Posted: 05 Jan 2015 02:20 PM PST

We still have a ways to go before May 15 arrives and we can all race to our nearest theater to devour Mad Max: Fury Road, but until then we have the film's wickedly gorgeous trailer to watch a gazillion times, as well as some of the most awe-striking imagery we've seen from any recent postapocalyptic movie. Just look at this thing... You've got a one-armed Charlize Theron alongside our new Max, played by Tom Hardy, and then a whole lotta crazy characters with even crazier names -- like Imperator Furiosa (Theron), Nux (Nicholas Hoult), Toast (Zoe Kravitz), Rictus Erectus (Nathan Jones), Valkyrie (Megan Gale), Capable (Riley Keough) and more.  From what we've gathered, the fourth installment in George Miller's franchise feels very reminiscent of The...

Posted: 05 Jan 2015 01:20 PM PST

Crimson Peak: The first official photo of Tom Hiddleston in Crimson Peak reveals him to be a fine-looking gothic gentleman. Guillermo del Toro's horror movie, due in theaters October 16, is keeping its plot secrets to itself for now, but we know that Hiddleston plays the new husband of author Mia Wasikowska, and that a frightfully old English manor is involved. Jessica Chastain also stars. [Empire via Collider]   Masters of the Universe: A new version of Masters of the Universe, inspired by the popular 1980s animated series, is moving forward. Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) has submitted his rewrite of the screenplay, according to DeVon Franklin, one of the producers.
