Marvel Studios Countdown: Why Marvel Doesn't Control Spider-Man and X-Men Posted: 20 Jan 2015 09:40 PM PST Most of the big Marvel movie news last week concerned properties that Disney and Marvel Studios do not directly control. There was news of reshoots on Fantastic Four, a confirmation from Patrick Stewart that he and Ian McKellen have been fully replaced by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in X-Men: Apocalypse, and a continuation of the “will they/won’t they” dance between Sony’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Avengers franchises. We’ve seen that one before -- rumors of Sony and Disney reaching some kind of an agreement for the use of Spidey that never seem to go beyond just rumors. Sometimes there’s a lot of confusion from moviegoers over who owns the film rights to what and why. Things like how one Quicksilver (Evan Peters) shows up in X-Men... Here's the Teaser Poster for the 'Wonder Woman' Movie Joss Whedon Never Got to Make Posted: 20 Jan 2015 08:00 PM PST These days Joss Whedon is known as the guy who delivered a game changer for the superhero genre in Marvel's The Avengers, and has since gone on to help spearhead the studio's big cinematic universe, in addition to directing the Avengers sequel Age of Ultron, due May 1. But before he got the gig with Marvel, Whedon was wooed by DC to direct a Wonder Woman movie... except it never happened. The movie was eventually scrapped due to creative differences, and the rest is history. Now, as part of eBay auction to benefit artist Clydene Lee, the 2005 Comic-Con teaser poster for Whedon's canceled Wonder Woman movie has been revealed. Check it out below (via Bleeding Cool): Artist Adam Hughes' original sketch (seen below) is also part of the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

See How They Filmed the 'Birdman' Times Square Scene Posted: 20 Jan 2015 05:00 PM PST Among the many achievements of Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is the Times Square scene. That's really Michael Keaton walking through the real New York City location wearing only his underwear and attempting to get to the front doors of the St. James Theater. Most of the people on camera are not extras, and it only could have worked with a character who is also famous and likely to be recognized as Keaton was. It also mostly worked as well as it did because of the unexpected virtue of ignorance -- or distraction, because a lot of the crowd's attention was diverted to watch a marching band planted by filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. As detailed in a piece at Variety, the tracking shot took four takes, half of which were captured on a cell phone... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Watch the Crazy Experience One Movie Theater Delivered for 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' Posted: 20 Jan 2015 02:40 PM PST Movie theaters will do anything to boost attendance these days, even if it means bringing the action to the lobby and hallways as a new kind of preshow entertainment. As a promotion for Kingsman: The Secret Service, U.K.-based Vue Cinemas (which is getting the comic book adaptation exclusively next week before anyone else) surprised some patrons at one of its locations with a "free Kingsman upgrade" that seemed to merely entail a stylishly suited chap escorting them to the auditorium. But on their way, they encountered some soldiers running towards them, and the fun began. Their escort called for some backup, and from there the chase was on as the moviegoers were whisked through back rooms and passageways and even a theater seemingly mid-show (hopefully they didn't... The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Postcredits Sequence Is Getting a Sequel Posted: 20 Jan 2015 01:20 PM PST A comic book sequel, that is. Surprisingly, one of the biggest stars of Guardians of the Galaxy is a character that was barely in the movie. Appearing briefly in the film and its postcredits sequence, Howard the Duck took the world of fandom by storm when it looked like Marvel was resurrecting the character -- who was the subject of the 1986 cult classic that bared his name -- by making him a part of the new big-screen Marvel universe. While we wait to see if Marvel gives Howard his own movie or makes him a part of someone else's adventures, the comic powerhouse has decided to begin with a new line of Howard the Duck comics, with the second issue telling the story of how the irritable duck wound up a part of the Collector's collection. Via The Hollywood... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Winona Ryder costars as his wife; John Leguizamo, Anton Yelchin and Anthony Edwards are among the subjects of his experiments. The movie will debut at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend. [EW.com] Amazon: Online retailer Amazon.com, which has enjoyed success producing original small-screen shows such as the Golden Globe-winning Transparent (above), says it will begin producing and acquiring original movies for theatrical distribution in 2015. The projects will be lower budgeted productions, in the neighborhood of $5 million to $25 million per title, and will be available on...
