Female 'Ghostbusters' Casts Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, 'SNL' Stars Posted: Who you gonna call? Looks like it's Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. That foursome has been revealed as the new cast of Paul Feig's upcoming all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot, after the director tweeted out a photo of the actresses Tuesday afternoon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy has already signed on, while Wiig, Jones, and McKinnon are currently hammering out deals for the production. - Paul Feig (@paulfeig) January 27, 2015 McCarthy had long been rumored to be in the mix, and "Ghostbusters" will mark her fourth film with Feig, who previously directed the actress in "Bridesmaids," "The Heat," and the upcoming spoof "Spy." McCarthy and Wiig will reunite on the big screen for the first time since co-starring in "Bridesmaids."McKinnon and Jones are the lesser-known members of the ensemble, though "Saturday Night Live" fans will recognize the scene-stealing comediennes. McKinnon has been an "SNL" staple since 2012 (she earned an Emmy nod for her work last year), and Jones joined the show in early 2014, starting out as a writer and quickly moving up the ranks to featured player status this season. She also has a role in Chris Rock's latest, "Top Five." Variety also reports that fellow "SNL" star Cecily Strong is in contention for a small part. The trade writes that Strong "is likely to play a government official similar to the role William Atherton played in the original." Tuesday's casting news comes after a long behind-the-scenes struggle for the flick, which was originally conceived as a straight sequel to "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II." But as the years wore on, original star Bill Murray declined to get involved with "Ghostbusters 3," and plans to move forward with the threequel eventually fell apart after the death of star Harold Ramis in 2014. Feig's idea for an all-female reboot keeps the franchise alive while exploring a new story and new characters. And if it's half as funny as his previous female-centric flicks, audiences will be very lucky. We can't wait to see McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon, and Jones in action. Production on "Ghostbusters" is expected to start this summer in New York. [via: Paul Feig, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

In other words, she's a straight-up amazing human being, and here are 26 reasons why. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Liam Hemsworth May Save Earth in 'Independence Day' Sequel Posted: Not much is known yet about director Roland Emmerich's upcoming "Independence Day" sequel, but one bit of casting may have been revealed: TheWrap reports that Liam Hemsworth has been offered the starring role. According to the site, the "Hunger Games" star has an offer on the table to lead "ID Forever," the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 blockbuster. It's unclear who Hemsworth would play; 20th Century Fox declined to comment on TheWrap's report. Original star Will Smith will not be returning, TheWrap writes, though "The Fantastic Four" star Michael B. Jordan is still rumored to join the ensemble. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are also expected to reprise their "Independence Day" roles. Last we heard from Emmerich, he had revealed that the follow-up would now be only one film instead of the originally-planned two-part sequel. He also told Entertainment Weekly in 2013 that the flick would center around life following the attack in the first film, and how the earth has rebuilt -- and is bracing for another alien invasion. Chris Pratt Could Play Indiana Jones in Disney Reboot: Report Posted: Here's a juicy bit of scoop: Deadline is reporting that Disney wants to reboot "Indiana Jones" -- and wants Chris Pratt in the lead role. According to the site, the studio bought the rights to the franchise from Paramount in 2013, and is eager to make good on that acquisition with a reboot or remake of some sort. And who better to lead it than Disney/Marvel's newest superstar, Pratt? Deadline reports that "things are very early," but Disney "has its sights set" on the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star, who they "hope to build the new franchise around." The site cautions that this is nothing but a rumor at this point, though Pratt continuing his already fruitful relationship with Disney makes plenty of sense. Stay tuned to see if this pans out. In the meantime, Pratt is currently starring in the seventh and final season of "Parks and Recreation" on NBC, and can be seen this summer in "Jurassic World." He's also rumored to be joining the cast of director Antoine Fuqua's "Magnificent Seven" remake alongside Denzel Washington. The Golden Globes Set the Date for 2016 Ceremony Posted: It's been only two weeks since the Golden Globes, but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has wasted no time in announcing the date for the 2016 awards ceremony. Next year's telecast will take place on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 8-11 p.m. EST (5-8 p.m. PST). It will be the 73rd annual Golden Globes ceremony. "We look forward to follow this year's successful Golden Globe Awards by celebrating what looks like another exceptional year in both film and television," said HFPA president Theo Kingma in a statement. The 2015 Golden Globes, hosted for the third and final time by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, scored 19.3 million viewers for NBC. No word yet on who may be hosting in 2016, but they have some big shoes to fill. [via: Variety] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Knock Knock' Trailer: While the Family's Away, Keanu Reeves Will Play (VIDEO) Posted: Two soaking wet, hot, young women show up at your doorstep ... it's every guy's fantasy, right? In director Eli Roth's "Knock Knock," though, that dream turns into a nightmare for Keanu Reeves. The first teaser trailer for the movie is out, and it doesn't show much beyond the set-up. Colleen Camp and Sondra Locke play two giggling girls who get caught in the rain and turn to Reeves's family man for help. His wife and kids are away, and at first, it seems Reeves has lucked into a very sexy encounter. But as the ominous tone of the trailer indicates, something just isn't right about these women. "Knock Knock" debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last week, and should hit theaters sometime in 2015. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Revenge Never Tasted Sweeter Than in This Scene From 'Project Almanac' (EXCLUSIVE) Posted: In "Project Almanac," a twisty time travel thriller produced by "Transformers" overlord Michael Bay that opens this Friday, a group of teens stumble across a time machine, although it may as well be Aladdin's lamp, the way that they devise new and increasingly clever ways of utilizing folds in the space-time continuum for their own personal gain. In a way, it is one of the more believable time travel stories out there, because if teens were to gain access to this technology, chances are they'd use it to win the lottery or go to Lollapalooza and not, say, kill Hilter or prematurely end Vietnam. In our exclusive clip, you get to see the kids really playing around with their newfound powers in a way that only kids would. This clip shows the group getting back on some bullies that dump a giant soda on Christina (Virginia Gardner), since apparently this is something that actually happens in really mean high schools and not just on "Glee." As her tormentors turn around, Christina is there -- thanks to the pseudo-magical science of time travel! -- only to dump two giant sodas on the girls who had just done the same to her. While one of them tries to protest about the impossibility of the situation, Christina says, quite triumphantly, "I'm everywhere bitch!" The clip gives you a great look at the playful tone of the film, as well as its you-are-there, found-footage aesthetic. (We saw the movie back at San Diego Comic Con last year and had a lot of fun with it.) Even if you don't know the characters or the exact storyline yet, chances are you'll be able to identify with wanting to get back on those who have picked on you. And that's why "Project Almanac" works -- it's a wish fulfillment fantasy that gives way to more sinister undercurrents... But those you'll have to see the movie for. You can also stream "Joe," one of Nicolas Cage's best films in recent years; the overlooked indie "The Brothers Bloom" with Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz; and the barely-in-theaters thriller "The Two Faces of January," starring Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst. Another Shondaland Show Might Be Coming to ABC This Fall Posted: TGIT? More like TGI-the whole week. ABC announced four pilot orders, including another new drama from uber-producer Shonda Rhimes. "The Catch," from creator Jennifer Schuur, centers on a woman who is about to get married - to a con man. But far from being a naive victim, she's a fraud investigator! When their opposing desires collide, they are thrown into "a dangerous game of cat and mouse." It's no surprise that ABC is once again turning to Rhimes; her Shondaland production company has churned out buzzy hits including the current "TGIT" line-up: "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," and "How to Get Away With Murder." The latter show's star, Viola Davis, won a SAG Award for her role on Sunday. ABC's other drama pilot is a female police procedural called "Broad Squad." The two comedies are higher-profile - one stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo (reuniting from their "Vacation" days), and the other is based on the life of sex columnist Dan Savage. 'Frozen' Songwriters Creating Oscars Musical Number Posted: With Neil Patrick Harris aboard to host the Oscars, we knew there'd be singing and dancing. But it seems like viewers will get singing and dancing of the highest caliber. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Oscar-winning husband-and-wife songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will pen "an original multimedia, musical sequence" for the Feb. 22 ceremony. Titled "Moving Pictures," the number will feature an "incredibly special song for Neil Patrick Harris and special guests," according to Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. The Lopezes are thrilled to work with Harris, who has hosted the Tonys and Emmys, but is emceeing the Oscars for the first time. Harris, meanwhile, couldn't resist a little "Frozen" joking in his own announcement on Twitter: This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'The Fantastic Four' Trailer: Be Ready for What's Coming (VIDEO) Posted: The long-awaited first teaser trailer for the reboot of "The Fantastic Four" is here, and it suggests a darker tone for the Marvel property than the previous film incarnations. The teaser was very much in the style of Christopher Nolan -- highly reminiscent of teasers for "Interstellar" -- with an ominous voice warning, "Human beings have an immeasurable desire to discover ... [But] with every new discovery there is risk," as images flash of Reed Richards (Miles Teller) in a high-tech lab, Sue Storm (Kate Mara) working in front of a bank of computer terminals, and some kind of ship preparing to take off. Along with Teller and Mara, there are brief glimpses of Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell displaying the superpowers they gain after some kind of experiment/space flight seems to go wrong. From the teaser, it looks like Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" will sit seamlessly beside other Marvel films -- at least aesthetically. The movie opens in theaters on Aug. 7. Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. The Northeast was covered in snow Monday night, and Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers were on repeats (not because of the storm, but still). David Letterman pressed on, talking to Louis CK about the Super Bowl. Louis is from Boston and he's a Patriots fan. He has no problem with the deflated footballs, or with bending the rules to win. He thinks the whole thing is hilarious. In the second video, he talks about how he disappoints his fans. At every live show, he can always spot the fans in the crowd who are disappointed. Channing Tatum was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and he and Jimmy talked about their baby daughters. Channing said his favorite thing about babies is that they all have unique poop faces. His daughter's poop face reminds him of Marlon Brando's death in "The Godfather." Haha. Channing also discussed how he had an imaginary friend growing up. The kid's name was just "Boy." Chan also talked about the Team Oscar contest, Quentin Tarantino, and the rest of his busy career. Chan insists "Magic Mike 2" is truly bigger and better than the first. Author and political commentator Nicolle Wallace was also on David Letterman's show, talking about Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, and President George W. Bush. Football player J.J. Watt was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and he jumped over Jimmy and Guillermo. Ellar Coltrane, aka the kid from "Boyhood," was on "Conan" and he talked about how weird it was to shoot the cover of Entertainment Weekly with his younger selves. Amanda Peet was also on "Conan." She stars in the new TV show "Togetherness" and she's married to David Benioff, one of the showrunners of "Game of Thrones." Amanda admitted she didn't like GoT at first (!!!blasphemy!!!) since she thought it all sounded silly. She told him it was a "terrible idea" like Dungeons and Dragons. Now, of course, she's obsessed with the show, but she doesn't like spoilers so she has to hide her eyes from some things. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
