Betty White Scores Standing Ovation, Chris Evans Escort at People's Choice Awards (VIDEO)

Posted:

The 41st Annual People's Choice Awards - Backstage And Audience
The People's Choice Awards are usually a mixed bag, with results that either delight or confuse the public, depending on who you ask. But no one can deny the sheer joy of the moment that television legend Betty White took home the Favorite TV Icon award at this year's ceremony -- and the stunned actress was escorted to the stage by none other than Captain America.

That heartwarming pairing came about after White was announced as the winner in the category, which also included Katey Sagal, Mark Harmon, Tim Allen, and Tom Selleck. The "Hot in Cleveland" star was visibly emotional after her name was read by presenter Ellen DeGeneres, and was helped to her feet and up onto the stage by another winner from the night: Chris Evans.

As the Favorite Action Movie Actor escorted White, the "Golden Girls" alum received a standing ovation, and her heartfelt acceptance speech was punctuated by loud cheers and applause from the crowd.

"When Melissa McCarthy came up on stage and said she'd stay with us as long as you let her - well, you've abused the privilege with me," White told the audience. " ... The people's choice at 93? Thank you with all my heart."

You can watch the wonderful moment below. Thank you for being a friend, Betty.

Posted:

The 72nd Golden Globe Awards air this Sunday and if you need two reasons to tune in, look no further than this year's hosts. Everyone's favorite besties Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are teaming up as MCs for a third time, and thankfully these two have a pretty great track record as far as on-screen comedy pairings go.

It's hard to forget the laughs they brought in "Mean Girls" and the weekend update desk at "SNL," as well as a slew of other appearances and sketches along the way. Let's revisit a few gems and get pumped for Sunday's festivities, shall we?

'Fargo' Season 2 Adds Ted Danson, Jean Smart, Patrick Wilson, More

Posted:

The Weinstein Company And Lexus Present 2nd Annual Lexus Short Films
The second season of FX's "Fargo" miniseries made a huge casting announcement Thursday, revealing three more lead characters and many more recurring guest stars.

Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, and Jean Smart have all been added to the cast, and will play three key characters on the series. They are:

Lou Solverson (Wilson), described as "a clean cut Minnesota State Patrolman, four years back from Vietnam, where he served in the Navy. A humble and competent man, Lou is a devoted husband to his wife and father to four-year-old Molly."

Hank Larsson (Danson), "the Sheriff of Rock County, Minnesota. An unflappable WWII vet who embodies a certain cowboy poetry, Hank is Lou's father-in-law."

Floyd Gerhardt (Smart), "the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family. She's stood by her husband's side for 40 years, but now that he's out of the picture, she thinks it's her turn to run things."

In addition to that trio, a host of recurring actors have been added, including Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeffrey Donovan, and Angus Sampson. They join previously-announced leads Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemmons.

Here's the updated official synopsis, per FX:

Young State Police Officer "Lou Solverson" (Wilson), recently back from Vietnam, investigates a case involving a local crime gang and a major Mob syndicate. Helping him piece things together is his father-in-law, "Sheriff Hank Larsson" (Danson). The investigation will lead them to a colorful cast of characters that includes "Karl Weathers" (Nick Offerman), the town lawyer of Luverne, Minnesota. A Korean War vet, Karl is a flowery drunk blessed with the gift of gab and the eloquence of a true con artist. Three-time Emmy winner Brad Garrett will play "Joe Bulo," the front man for the northern expansion of a Kansas City crime syndicate. The new face of corporate crime, Joe's bringing a Walmart mentality to small town America. His number two is "Mike Milligan" (Bokeem Woodbine). Part enforcer, part detective, Mike is always smiling - but the joke is usually on you. Bulo and his crew have their sights set on the Gerhardt crime family in Fargo, currently led by matriarch "Floyd Gerhardt" (Smart). With her husband at death's door, Floyd takes over the family business, frustrating her eldest son, "Dodd Gerhardt" (Jeffrey Donovan). An impatient hothead with a cruel streak to match his ambitions, Dodd can't wait for both his parents to die so he can take over and expand their business from kingdom to empire. "Bear Gerhardt" (Angus Sampson) is the middle son, an intimidatingly large man who, although inarticulate, is the most decent of his clan. "Rye Gerhardt" (Kieran Culkin), the youngest of the Gerhardt clan, views himself as a big shot, but in reality he's just a small dog who barks big.

Season two of "Fargo," set in 1979 Sioux Falls, is due to premiere sometime during fall 2015.

This Real-Life Peter Griffin at New York Comic Con Will Make You Do a Double-Take (VIDEO)

Posted:

Peter Griffin, New York Comic Con
New York Comic Con and other fan conventions like it are known for impressive cosplay, but one attendee's scarily accurate portrayal of "Family Guy" character Peter Griffin needs to be seen (and heard) to be believed.

Robert Franzese, an aspiring voice actor and perennial NYCC attendee, doesn't just dress like Peter; he looks and sounds exactly like a live-action version of the animated character. As he explains in a video interview, he's become a bit of a sensation at the annual convention for "being fat and wearing green pants."

As Franzese tells it, he started doing impressions as a kid, picking up voices from Looney Tunes and Muppets characters, and the Peter Griffin cosplay idea came together easily, thanks to Franzese nailing the character's delivery and physique (and having a white button-down, green pants, and round glasses handy). And it's changed his life.

"I'm like a nobody. I have a nobody job, making nobody pay. But then I come to New York Comic Con and people are pulling out phones like I'm freaking Brad Pitt or something," Franzese says. "It makes me feel like a million bucks. It's the reactions that I get out of what I do that gives me the joy in what I do."

Check out the video -- and see and hear Franzese in action -- below, and prepare to be amazed.

Watch a Woman Find Out Her Old Baseball Cards Are Worth $1 Million (VIDEO)

Posted:

There's a weird kind of suspense that courses through "Antiques Roadshow," the super boring PBS program that you've probably seen if you've left the television on after your cat steps on your remote control. In the show, people bring their antiques or oddities to a location (usually a cavernous convention hall, sometimes in places like the Mohegan Sun casino) and have their valuables appraised. Sometimes the professionals doing the appraisals will tell the person that they're bring them junk, in fact, this is most of the show. But the thrill of watching the show comes from someone bringing some dusty relic that turns out to be a priceless artifact.

We've never seen anything quite like the video before, with an adorable old woman finds out that her collection of 144-year-old baseball cards - these baseball players predate any national baseball league and features the Boston Red Stockings - are worth, in my best Dr. Evil impression, one million dollars. Her reaction is pretty priceless. Say it with us now: "Holy smokes!"

Just watch it and think about all of the stupid trinkets in your attic that are, in fact, priceless treasures. Also, in a related story: both of my socks have holes in them. Video via SB Nation.

Watch History Come Alive in Our Exclusive 'Selma' Featurette (VIDEO)

Posted:

This weekend "Selma," a film centered on the 1965 voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery led by Martin Luther King Jr. (played by David Oyelowo), finally opens nationwide, and you should be very excited indeed. This is one of the very best films of the year, a historical eye-opener that is also a profound character study and as much a reflection on race relations in 2015 as it is in 1965 (sadly). And if you needed another reason to get excited about seeing "Selma," well why don't you check out our exclusive featurette?

Time and time again in the two-minute montage, which features footage from the film as well as behind-the-scenes interviews with cast members and creative principles (including the film's dazzling director, Ava DuVernay), the point is reiterated that "Selma" isn't a movie about Martin Luther King Jr. the legendary civil rights leader, it's about Martin Luther King, Jr. the man. And it's true -- the movie is beautiful and nuanced and will rip your heart out, especially given the recent racial unrest in our country.

But this makes the film seem oppressively bleak and heavy; it's not. "This is the story we've never seen before," Oyelowo says in the featurette. And he's right. This isn't some history lesson, and not just because the MLK Jr. estate, notoriously controlling when it comes to representations of the slain civil rights leader, didn't let the production use any of his actual words (meaning that the filmmakers had to come up with speeches and dialogue that sounded like he'd say it but weren't actually his). This is a living, breathing, fully realized dramatization and an absolute must-see. So, after you watch the featurette, buy your tickets for this weekend right here on Moviefone. You won't be sorry.david oyelowo in selma

MPAA Slaps 'Fifty Shades of Grey' with R Rating for 'Unusual Behavior'

Posted:

Some call it bondage; the Motion Picture Association of America calls it "unusual behavior."

That's the word from Variety, which reports that the MPAA has slapped steamy novel adaptation "Fifty Shades of Grey" with an R rating ahead of its February release. That news should either delight or disappoint fans of E.L. James's series, which is chock full of graphic sex scenes which now may or may not get their full due on the big screen.

"Fifty Shades" had at one time been considered a threat to get the dreaded NC-17 rating, though director Sam Taylor-Johnson has toned down some of the book's naughtier bits (and one of star Jamie Dornan's specific naughty bits) in order to earn the R and reach a wider audience. Variety reports that the MPAA gave the movie an R rating thanks to its "strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity."

The "unusual behavior" descriptor seems rather hilarious to us, though perhaps it's best that the MPAA left the specifics unsaid. And in a way, that nondescript description could entice audience members all the more, since it leaves lots to the imagination, and curious moviegoers may want to see what all the fuss is about.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" hits theaters on February 13.

25 Mistakes From Your Favorite High-Octane Films

Posted:

Very few people's lives are peppered with exhilarating car chases, high-octane explosions, and bad-ass heroes saving the day -- which is why we go to the movies.

Putting life on hold for a couple hours and going on an exciting, over-the-top journey is worth the price of a ticket -- even if the movie includes a few gaffes and continuity errors.

In case you missed the blunders in your favorite action flicks, like "Gladiator" or "Saving Private Ryan," here's a gallery to get you up to speed. As always, all photos are courtesy of MovieMistakes.com.

Golden Globes 2015: The 12 Things You're Most Likely to See at This Year's Ceremony

Posted:

Golden Globe StatuettesA month from now, are you even going to remember who won the Golden Globes? And should you? After all, it's not like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the little group of entertainment journalists who give out the prizes, have loads of credibility, either as Oscar and Emmy prognosticators or as discerning film and TV critics.

But they do put on a heck of an awards show. This year's gala, the HFPA's 72nd, boasts a pair of popular and funny emcees, a glamorous gathering of TV and movie stars, a tribute to a certain Hollywood royal, and the possibility that the event's free-flowing alcohol and relaxed vibes will lead to something spontaneous and memorable happening. Oh yeah, and Sunday's proceedings will also offer a small hint at what could win at the Oscars in February. Here, then, are some things likely to catch your eye at the 2015 Golden Globes ceremony.

The Tina and Amy Show. This is the third and, alas, apparently the last year that Ms. Fey and Ms. Poehler will co-host the ceremony. Expect them to go out with a bang, sparing few with their sweetly-delivered barbs, since they don't have to worry about being invited back.

More of the same from Ricky Gervais. After all, the HFPA is letting previous three-time host Gervais come back as a presenter, despite his well-established tendency to insult the powerful and hijack the show for his own purposes. You at home will be laughing, even if those in the Beverly Hilton ballroom do not.

A-listers reading cue cards. Along with Gervais, plenty of top-ranking entertainers will be happy to serve as presenters at the Globes, where no one will be writing awkward jokes into their remarks like at the Oscars. Those who've agreed to appear so far include Amy Adams, Adrien Brody, Robert Downey Jr., Anna Faris, Kevin Hart, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum, Lily Tomlin, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Frasier's daughter. Miss Golden Globes, the gowned gal who hands out the trophies and escorts the winners offstage, is almost always a celebrity's daughter. This year, it's 22-year-old Greer Grammer, star of "Awkward" and daughter of Kelsey. Keep an eye on her; after all, past Miss GGs have included Melanie Griffith and Laura Dern.

A coronation for George Clooney. After all, like Jack Nicholson or Clark Gable before him, Clooney is pretty much acknowledged by one and all to be the king of Hollywood. So why not make it official? On Sunday, he'll pick up the Cecil B. DeMille award, the HFPA's lifetime achievement prize. Isn't the 53-year-old a little young for that? After all, just 20 years ago, before the 1994 debut of "ER," hardly anyone knew who he was. (Though we shouldn't discount his earlier career, a decade spent doing things like guest roles on "The Golden Girls" and starring in horror spoof "Return of the Killer Tomatoes!") Still, he's a big deal now. And a good sport, judging by the way he canoodled with Poehler during a comedy bit at a previous Globes ceremony. Over the years, the HFPA has nominated him in nine different categories; the organization's official press release about the DeMille award observes, "At this point, he could only top this if he were to write a song or have a sex change." Let's hope not.

Newcomers among the TV winners. The Globe voters like to get out in front of the Emmys when it comes to being the first to recognize new shows. So look for Gina Rodriguez to take home a trophy for "Jane the Virgin" and Viola Davis (who's a newcomer to primetime, at least) to grab one for "How to Get Away With Murder."

Newcomers among the movie winners -- sort of. Director Richard Linklater has gone Globe-less throughout his quarter-century career, but that's likely to end with the hosannas over "Boyhood." Watch for that film's supporting actress nominee, Patricia Arquette, to pick up her first Globe, too. Of course, "Boyhood"'s big rival, "Birdman," could also grab a few prizes, including a Best Actor award for the previously Globe-deprived Michael Keaton.

Jokes about "The Interview." Nobody came off looking noble in that fiasco, so there'll be plenty of wisecracks to go around.

Food envy. Potential Globe honorees had better remember to bring some dental floss; you don't want to go up on stage and on camera with black Tuscan kale from the awards banquet's second course stuck in your teeth. This year, you can watch as Globe guests nibble on a three-course meal consisting of a modified Waldorf salad with a lemon emulsion dressing, a surf-and-turf course of filet mignon and Arctic char (served with a potato croquette, a fondue of heirloom cherries and tomatoes, and the aforementioned kale), and a triple dessert course of cassis lemon cheesecake, chocolate alliance salted caramel, and hazelnut dacquoise. You know, in case you wanted to duplicate the menu at home.

A moment of silence. Many greats from the worlds of both TV and film passed away last year, probably too many for the show to do justice to them all in the annual "In Memoriam" montage. Hold your applause 'til the end, folks.

Plugs for "Parks and Recreation." You think NBC is going to miss a chance to promote the final season of Poehler's cult-fave sitcom? C'mon, people, it's your last chance to discover this show.

Drunken revelry. There's never as much of it as we at home would want to see. Still, hope springs eternal that the Globes' keep-refilling-those-goblets policy will pay off in an on-camera slap fight or wardrobe malfunction. Heck, we'd settle for a loud belch.

Best of Late Night TV: Liam Neeson's Arm Wrestling and Chris Pratt's Surprise Appearence (VIDEO)

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

The late night moment you've been waiting for has arrived: Jimmy Fallon and Liam Neeson finally went head-to-head (or rather, fist-to-fist) in a "Tonight Show" arm wrestling match of epic proportions. We'll let you watch the clip to see who wins, but hint: it's not Jimmy Fallon. Of course the best part of this arm wrestling match were the insults Jimmy and Liam threw at each other, including "after I win I'm gonna officially change my name from Liam Neeson to Dick Rubnuts." Flawless.

Hot off the heels of Jimmy and Liam's wrestling match, "Pretty Little Liars'" Lucy Hale showed up on "Late Night" to chat about the most addictive show of all time. The question on everyone's mind: does she know who A is? The answer: of course not, let's be real. The writers change their mind about A's identity every five seconds!

Over on "Kimmel," Chris Pratt made an unexpected appearance in Jimmy's office thanks to being epically confused about the show's schedule. The result: an impromptu interview. Bless your heart for doing this skit, Chris Pratt. Also, how excited is everyone for "Parks and Recreation's" triumphant return?

Meanwhile on "Conan," Elizabeth Banks stole our hearts when she declared herself a feminist and said that she's totally on board with Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian's internet-breaking nudity. Also, she's raising her sons to be fellow feminists who play with Barbie dolls, which is obviously completely awesome.

'American Horror Story: Freak Show' Episode 11: 'Magical Thinking'

Posted:

Neil Patrick Harris makes everything better, and that's certainly true for this week's episode of "American Horror Story: Freak Show." His character Chester, a mild-mannered traveling salesman with a love for lizards and ladies, starts off as a mild-mannered Southern gentleman, is the exact sort of character that "AHS" does best: super duper normal and harmless on the outside, although perhaps a little eccentric, and utterly bananas once we stop being polite and start getting real. And, boy, things get real this week.

Beside Manners

The show starts with a flashback to two days prior, when Jimmy is presented with a real "Sophie's Choice" dilemma by Richard. Jimmy can rot in jail, where he'll probably meet a similar fate as poor Meep, or he can let Richard sell one of his hands to pay for a lawyer. Of course, Jimmy wakes up in the hospital with not one but two stumps, no lawyer, no painkillers (the nurse sniffs one of her friends was at the Tupperware party), and no future. However, Dell comes by to visit, and they bond and make plans to buy the show from Elsa.

Meanwhile, Dot and Bette have decided that it's time to enjoy the body they inhabit, which means they make lots of lewd jokes to themselves via ESP and try to seduce Toulouse, who proves to be an inept kisser. This change in the twins is sudden and strange, and their monologue about how wonderful and joyous and in touch with pleasure the freaks are has a gross "noble savage" feel to it that feels very much against the grain of the whole "AHS" vibe. On one hand, it makes sense that the twins can only fully embrace their sexuality by rejecting the values of their mother, but the way they describe the openness of the other freaks is dehumanizing and disappointing. Sometimes, it's hard to square what I think is the deeper subtext of the show, our shared humanity and/or lack thereof, with all the characters and their arcs. On one hand, it's great to see them shed their inhibitions, but on the other, it stinks to see them embrace an Elsa-like take on freaks as innocent monsters.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW
Enter Chester! If we didn't automatically realize he was entirely too gentlemanly to be well adjusted, the brief but bloody visions he has tips us off. When he does his ventriloquist act, we can hear his puppet Marjorie's voice, as played by Jamie Brewer, and later, when the twins seduce him and he insists on having Marjorie with them, well, it's apparent things are just going to get weirder. Especially when he mentions he was in World War II and has a metal plate in his head, and he starts hearing a loud buzzing noise when he gets aroused.

Paul gets in a few great zings in this episode, the best being his advice to Chester to go lighter with his stage makeup. "You look like you just marched out of the Nutcracker Suite," Paul says, much to Marjorie's amusement.

Meanwhile...

Eve and Dell scheme to save Jimmy. It's absolutely the least interesting part of the episode, although it will no doubt prove to be pretty important by the time the season wraps up in a few weeks.

Back to Chester!

Through flashbacks, we learn about Chester's dark past, and boy, it is a doozy. See, he's really into the twins both digging him because then he doesn't feel left out; we soon find out why he has this deep-seated fear of being left out during a flashback. Cut to: Chester sitting in an armchair, smoking a cigarette, with Marjorie on his knee. He's watching two women in bed. One of them is his wife. After a while, he declares he is going to go to the garage to work on his magic. Eventually, both his wife and her lover meet a gruesome end at the hands of Marjorie, which again, is played by Jamie Brewster dressed like Chester's mannequin. As the P.I. Dandy has hired to follow the twins and their new lover explains, Chester's been on the run ever since.

Yep, Dandy hired a P.I. to follow the twins, and he is super sad that Chester deflowered them.

The newest act Chester is working on is the old saw a lady in half trick, and he wants the twins to be his assistants. "We don't want to be sawed in half any more!" one cries. No, no, he makes it clear that they're his assistants, and it's because they're beautiful, and no one is going to get sawn in half, obviously, because that would be perfectly crazy. Right?

Two Dandies

It seems appropriate that two guys who come across as polite to the point of being milquetoast, Dandy and Chester, are actually murderous freaks given half a chance. It's perfect that they become archenemies. In retaliation for sleeping with the twins, Dandy steals Marjorie and hides her in the main tent. She's sitting and calmly eating grapes when Dandy finds her, and then she starts making demands. She wants him to get rid of these new ladies he's involved with - and this time, he has to do the dirty work himself.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW
The Jig Is Up

As we saw in the last episode, Maggie's change of heart means she's coming clean about her grifting ways. Specifically, she brought Desiree to Philly to see Ma Petite floating in a jar full of formaldehyde, just to really drive home her point. Somehow, they transport this giant jar full of Ma Petite back to Jupiter, FL., and Maggie reveals the truth to Elsa. While Desiree is questioning Dell, we hear Elsa scream from across the camp. Although Desiree is armed and dangerous, it's Elsa that puts a bullet through Dell's skull. Bye, Dell.

Worth Noting:

Drew Rin Varick, who plays Toulouse, says one line in this episode. After his kissing style is criticized, he protests, "But I am French!" That might actually be the most he's said in the entire show.

Paul the Illustrated Seal Man is getting in loads of zingers. Seems he's healed completely from the stabbing incident, but where's Penny?
