Watch: See How Tom Hanks' David S. Pumpkins Makes Your Favorite Horror Movies Even Scarier Posted: 27 Oct 2016 09:30 PM PDT Sometimes it's the oddest Saturday Night Live sketches that wind up sticking around to become cult classics. Though we're only a few days out from Tom Hanks' ludicrous appearance as the character David S. Pumpkins during a weird sketch set on a Halloween ride at an amusement park, the way the internet has reacted tells us this will be a character that sticks... and sticks hard. Here's the sketch as a refresher... It's definitely not immediately apparent what, exactly, is so funny about this sketch, but there's just something about the oddness of it -- the gestures, the random addition of a middle initial to his name, the wacky skeleton duo, and the way Hanks goes all in on the bit -- that just incites a serious case of the giggles. And it's... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Mexico City Is Going to Recreate the Day of the Dead Parade From 'Spectre' Posted: 27 Oct 2016 08:30 PM PDT The movies are a huge influence on the real world, from the way they introduce new words into our language to how they inspire cultural traditions. Did you know the term “pixelated” comes from Frank Capra’s Mr. Deeds Goes to Town or that the Ku Klux Klan was re-founded thanks to The Birth of a Nation? It’s obviously not always good influence. Well, a new example that does actually seem fun and appreciated is the introduction of a Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City a la the one at the beginning of Spectre. That’s right, the celebration at the start of the last James Bond movie was not based on anything that really exists. Officials in the Mexican capital have been... The Fantasy Series 'Cosmere' Is Getting a Big Budget Movie Universe Posted: 27 Oct 2016 07:00 PM PDT Have you ever heard of Cosmere? Or the name Brandon Sanderson? No? That's okay. To be honest, we haven't either. But all that means is that we're on the outside of a world that means a whole lot to those who are familiar with it. And apparently the film studio DMG Entertainment is banking on the fact that millions more all over the planet will come to love it as well. And we want to emphasize the word banking. DMG Entertainment have not only acquired the rights to Cosmere, but they've already committed to spending a staggering $270 million to getting the franchise - which will start with three films - up and running. So what is Cosmere? It's the name Sanderson gave to the universe in which his fantasy book series exist. As much as we can... The Last Horror Blog: Clive Barker's 'Weaveworld,' 'Working With Jigsaw' and More Posted: 27 Oct 2016 04:30 PM PDT Weaveworld adaptation gets a new writer – A small screen adaptation of Clive Barker’s ambitious fantasy novel Weaveworld is still alive and kicking over at the CW. The network has been looking to bring the challenging tale to television since last year – when Jack Kenny produced a script that never made it into production. Kenny has now been replaced by Josh Stolberg – whose previous genre credits include Piranha 3D and the Sorority Row remake. No word yet on who might serve as showrunner or star in the series, but expect more in the not too distant future. Jigsaw invades the office with hilarious Working with Jigsaw short film – Several years ago, filmmaker Jim Capel... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Donald Glover Talks 'Star Wars' Role, Says Lando Was His Very First Toy Posted: 27 Oct 2016 03:00 PM PDT At this point in time we don't yet know whether these standalone Star Wars movies are going to be a big hit or a big miss. There's plenty of potential there and endless stories that could be told, but if they don't in some way touch the Star Wars stories and characters we're previously familiar with, will that endanger the overall brand? What we know is the trailers for this December's Rogue One look great, and bringing on Lego Movie masterminds Phil Lord and Chris Miller to tackle a Han Solo/Lando Calrissian buddy movie seems brilliant on paper. Time will tell if that brilliance on paper translates to brilliance on the screen, but while we patiently wait for Rogue One, the new Lando Calrissian -- one Donald Glover -- spoke about nabbing the role for the... Movie News: Disney Seeks Kevin Hart as Santa; See Hugh Jackman Make Old Man 'Logan' Look Good Posted: 27 Oct 2016 01:30 PM PDT Dashing Through the Snow: Kevin Hart is in negotiations to appear as Santa Claus in Dashing Through the Snow, a Disney family comedy. Santa must convince a workaholic New York City detective to believe in Christmas magic so he can repair his broken relationship with his son. Rob Burnett (The Fundamentals of Caring) is writing the script. [THR] Logan: Hugh Jackman can be seen staring into a mirror in a new image from Logan. He plays the X-Men mutant character Wolverine as an older gentleman who has stopped using his superpowers. Despite the scars and bullet holes, though, he still looks pretty good. The movie is scheduled for release on March 3, 2017. [Twitter] Unearthed: Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, above) is touted to direct Unearthed, based on the... J.J. Abrams' 'God Particle' Revealed as Part of 'Cloverfield' Universe Posted: 27 Oct 2016 12:00 PM PDT Back in January, we were caught by surprise when J.J. Abrams' Valencia was revealed to be 10 Cloverfield Lane. The producer described it as a "blood relative" of his alien invasion movie Cloverfield. Without spoiling what happens in the thriller, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, it's safe to say that its mysterious connection to the original added a delightful and very intriguing layer. Even before 10 Cloverfield Lane was released in March, Abrams told Fandango: "A larger franchise or anthology would suggest multiple movies, and we’re just focusing on this, which is the second of two. But I will say that there is something larger at play that if we’re lucky enough to get to do I think could result in something pretty cool.” Now...
