Tom Cruise's Biblical Epic 'Methuselah' Gets a 'Pirates' Director Posted: 28 Oct 2016 09:00 PM PDT Tom Cruise sure looks good for his age, but soon he'll be looking even better when he plays a man of almost 1,000 years. The actor remains attached to the bibical epic Methuselah, in which he will portray the long-living figure of the Old Testament, who is also notable for being the grandfather of Noah. This is a project that has been in the works for a while under Harry Potter producer David Heyman, and now the movie finally has a director. According to Deadline, Joachim Ronning is taking the helm for what's also being described as a survival tale. He's had some experience with that sort of thing, as he co-directed the Oscar-nominated Norwegian film Kon-Tiki, about Thor Heyerdal's famous 1947 raft sailing expedition across the Pacific Ocean... Comics on Film: What the Discord of 'Deadpool 2' Tells Us About the Sequel Posted: 28 Oct 2016 07:30 PM PDT 2016 is winding down to its final weeks as we descend on a fast-approaching Halloween, and while a great deal can be said about the year overall in terms of the loss of beloved personalities, politics, and entertainment, it seemed like it was a particularly interesting year for fans of comics-based and superhero movies. While we saw some very polarizing releases from Warner Bros. featuring the characters of DC Comics, we also got the monumentally successful Captain America: Civil War, we're on the verge of seeing Doctor Strange make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we got...another X-Men movie. Perhaps the most interesting comic book movie story of the year, though, lies in the surprise knockout success of the X-Men film... New Yorkers Rejoice! The Alamo Drafthouse Is Now Open in Brooklyn Posted: 28 Oct 2016 06:00 PM PDT The Alamo Drafthouse is not your average movie theater. It takes all of about two minutes to see why movie geeks from around the country are so infatuated with the Alamo Drafthouse chain of cinemas, as the entrance to their newest theater in Brooklyn -- the first to arrive in New York City -- is dressed with a carpet honoring the iconic pattern from The Shining, as well as a cool NYC photo opp that nods to the seminal classic King Kong. All of it leads towards a beautifully deranged bar called the House of Wax (pictured below), due it to it being stuffed with all sorts of wax heads and various other oddities (and body parts). Moviegoers are invited to hang in the House of Wax before or after the film, free to carry their drinks throughout the... 'Deadpool 2' Reportedly Has Its Crosshairs Set On a 'John Wick' Director Posted: 28 Oct 2016 04:30 PM PDT Late last Friday word began creeping out that Deadpool 2 had lost its director. Tim Miller, who stuck with the first film for years when no one else wanted to make it, was parting ways with the sequel to his box office smash. The reasons given were, of course, vague but reportedly boiled down to a difference between Miller and his star Ryan Reynolds and what kind of humor should be in the film. The parting was apparently amicable, or at least amicable enough that Fox immediately pivoted Miller over to Influx, another big budget franchise they're looking to make. But still, the internet naturally went into a fan buzz wondering who would direct the sequel to the world's highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. And now less than a week later we have the answer: John Wick... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 28 Oct 2016 03:00 PM PDT In the new XxX: Return of Xander Cage trailer, Vin Diesel can be seen skateboarding on the side of a bus, then riding a motorcycle that turns into a jet ski and gives him the ability to drive under water -- all while fighting the bad guys. It's almost as if someone took the ingredients of the Fast & Furious movies, the Mission: Impossible movies and some crazy obscure action flick from the '90s destined for late night cable viewings and out popped this sequel, the third in the XxX series and second to star Diesel. Return of Xander Cage was one of many films Paramount previewed in New York City this week for select press, and while it wasn't the most awards friendly or sexiest of the studio's returning franchises, Xander Cage's bonkers return was... Writers' Room Formed for Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Sherlock Holmes 3' Posted: 28 Oct 2016 01:30 PM PDT Fresh off his success in Iron Man, which helped to revitalize his career, Robert Downey Jr. teamed with Jude Law and director Guy Ritchie to make Sherlock Holmes. The movie kept the period setting and basic outlines of the detective and Dr. Watson, created by Arthur Conan Doyle, but added modern action twists and cheeky humor. Earning more than $524 million at the box office worldwide, the movie was followed by a sequel two years later. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows proved even more popular, grossing more than $545 million in earnings. Even before the sequel opened, writer Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) was hired to work on the third installment, but the project stalled out. Three years later, Downey said: "We want it to be the best of the series, so that's a pretty... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Movie News: New 'Thor: Ragnarok' Character Confirmed; Shane Black Talks R-rated 'Predator' Posted: 28 Oct 2016 12:00 PM PDT Thor: Ragnarok: Director Taika Waititi (above) shared a Facebook Live video on the final day of production for Thor: Ragnarok and casually mentioned a character named Miek. That character was first seen in the Marvel comic book series Planet Hulk, adding fuel to past speculation that the series is serving as inspiration, at least in part, for Thor: Ragnarok. We already know that Mark Ruffalo will be returning as the Hulk in the movie, due for release on November 3, 2017. [THR] The Predator: Writer/director Shane Black (The Nice Guys, above) expects to begin production on The Predator early next year and in a new interview he credits the success of Deadpool as part of the reason why the movie is expected to earn an R-rating: "Fans of the Predator … probably...
