DVD Obscura: The New Indie and International Movies You Need to Watch Posted: 12 Oct 2016 09:30 PM PDT New Indie Audience Award winner at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival, the clever and unpredictable Transpecos (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) is the sort of scrappy indie that makes the most out of a few locations and a small cast by being intelligently written and unpredictably twisty. Johnny Simmons, Gabriel Luna and Clifton Collins Jr. star as three border patrol agents having what appears to be another mind-numblingly dull day on the job, but then what appears to be a random traffic stop escalates into something shocking and dangerous. You won’t see the curves coming in the screenplay by Greg Kwedar (who also directed) and Clint Bentley, and the film makes salient points about border, immigration and drug issues without letting them get in the way of a crackling plot. Keep... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Check Out a Gorgeous New 'Rogue One' Poster; Next Trailer Drops Thursday Posted: 12 Oct 2016 08:19 PM PDT It's beginning to look a lot like Star Wars, as a new colder season and daylight savings time reminds us that winter is right around the corner -- and with it, a new Star Wars movie. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards stopped by the Star Wars show with a gorgeous new poster for the movie, as well as news that a new trailer will drop Thursday morning. Here's the poster. It's got all the makings of a classic Star Wars poster, with a familiar design and layout reminiscent of previous Star Wars posters -- not to mention the fact that it, too, plays with the light vs dark theme. All the characters are there front and center along with a calming blue tint that teases a beach side battle the likes of which we've never seen in a... New 'Doctor Strange' Buzz: From Stan Lee's Cameo to Visual Inspirations and More Posted: 12 Oct 2016 06:00 PM PDT Are you ready for Doctor Strange to come out already? We've only got a few more weeks, but if you can't wait any longer and want some details seen and revealed at both a special IMAX preview event and a Reddit AMA interview with director Scott Derrickson this week, we've got those for you. Keep in mind, there are possibly some SPOILERS for anyone hoping to go into the movie blind. How does Doctor Strange compare to the rest of the Marvel movies? Derrickson was asked at Marvel Reddit whether his horror background carried over to Doctor Strange. He answered: There is no straight horror in the movie, but it is a bit darker and more serious than other Marvel movies. I think the connection between my horror films and... 'Justice League' Concept Art Reveals Amber Heard as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis Posted: 12 Oct 2016 04:30 PM PDT Justice League is going to have a lot of characters in it. That just goes with the territory when it comes to superhero movies these days. The bigger the movie, the more heroes it will have. That's why we're now (thanks to IGN) getting our first look at Amber Heard as Mera, Queen of Atlantis and wife of Aquaman. Don't let this costume reveal make you think she's joined the Justice League, though. Her role in the Zack Snyder-directed movie is expected to be rather small. It's not a leap to imagine just a scene or two of her and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) debating how involved the Atlanteans need to be with the land-bound heroes (and villains). And that's okay since it's already known she'll be a big part of the solo Aquaman movie directed by James... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Brave New Jersey' Poster and Images Reveal a Comedy About 'War of the Worlds' (Exclusive) Posted: 12 Oct 2016 03:00 PM PDT On October 30, 1938 a radio drama show called The Mercury Theatre on the Air put on a very special Halloween episode. Directed and narrated by Orson Welles, it was a radio play retelling of The War of the Worlds, H.G. Wells' iconic sci-fi novel about Martians in great big spaceships invading Earth. The world was a far less interconnected place back then and, understandably, some listeners around America freaked out, sincerely believing that the broadcast was depicting real events and aliens had indeed come to our galactic shores. That broadcast has taken on an almost urban legend status over the decades, and the new movie Brave New Jersey, starring Anna Camp, Tony Hale, Sam Jaegar, Mel Rodriguez and a whole lot more, takes a fictional look at a night that was... 'Logan' Villain Boyd Holbrook Touted as 'The Predator' Hero Posted: 12 Oct 2016 01:30 PM PDT We just heard that rising star Boyd Holbrook has been cast as a villain in Logan, the final movie to star Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Now comes word that Holbrook is being sought to play a more heroic character. Holbrook is in talks to star in Shane Black's The Predator. The role suddenly opened up because Benicio Del Toro dropped out of consideration, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While Del Toro would have been a fascinating choice for the lead role, especially since Black has teased that the movie will "probably" have a detective story somewhere inside it, Holbrook potentially brings a very fresh edge. Remember that humor has always been an important element in the scripts that Black and his collaborator Fred Dekker have written over the years; see... Posted: 12 Oct 2016 12:00 PM PDT Jurassic World 2: Colin Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World and will be producing Jurassic World 2, says that the dinosaurs in the sequel "will be a parable of the treatment animals receive today, the abuse, medical experimentation, pets … the use the military has made of them, animals as weapons." Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their roles and J.A. Bayona will direct the sequel, which is aiming for release on June 22, 2018. [Time] Kong: Skull Island: A new undersea monster from the upcoming Kong: Skull Island has been revealed in a promotional map of the fictional island -- but only under black light (above). Otherwise, the map (below) shows the layout of Skull Island. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson star in the...
