The Last Horror Blog: SNL's 'Stranger Things,' 'Bubba Ho-Tep 2,' New 'Resident Evil' Trailer and More

Posted: 13 Oct 2016 09:00 PM PDT

SNL spoofs Stranger Things – You know you’ve made it into the big leagues of pop culture when Saturday Night Live does a sketch inspired by your work – which is what happened this weekend when the show spoofed Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things. The skit tackles one of the enduring questions from the first season – not what happened to Eleven, but where were Lucas’ parents? Lucas was able to run around doing whatever he wanted – almost as if the Duffer Brothers forgot to include his family in the story. That changes here. Check out the clip below, which is one of the funnier SNL bits I’ve seen in ages.   Short film Givertaker reminds you to be careful what you wish for – Movies.com’s Senior Editor Peter...

J.K. Rowling Says the 'Fantastic Beasts' Franchise Will Extend from Three Movies to Five

Posted: 13 Oct 2016 07:54 PM PDT

We know you're excited to return to the Wizarding World first introduced to us by Harry Potter when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters next month, but just how excited are you? Are you five movies-worth excited? Originally thought to be a new trilogy set years before the Harry Potter movies, creator J.K. Rowling announced during a fan event for the first Fantastic Beasts movie that they've instead decided to extend it to five movies. The first three, due out in 2016, 2018 and 2020, will likely be joined by two additional films in 2022 and 2024, unless production on multiple films is combined in a way that allows them to release, say, the final two movies one year apart.   .@jk_rowling has just confirmed the magic continues in a total of FIVE...

Interview: Jeffrey Dean Morgan on Being a Psychopath in 'Desierto,' Zack Snyder's Genius and More

Posted: 13 Oct 2016 07:30 PM PDT

A whole lot of people are about to really, really hate Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I'm not even talking about his role on The Walking Dead, though the topic does inevitably come up, but rather his role in Desierto, the feature directing debut of Gravity co-writer Jonás Cuarón. In it he plays a lonely psychopath who starts hunting people trying to illegally cross the border into America. It's a rather thankless role, one that positions him as the personification of pure evil but also (wisely) never stops to explain or justify that evil. He's basically the slasher in a horror movie, only with a cowboy hat instead of a mask. We spoke to Morgan last week over the phone about Desierto and what it's like to play someone so unrepentantly evil. We also...

President Obama Names His Essential Sci-Fi Movies

Posted: 13 Oct 2016 06:00 PM PDT

Barack Obama has been one of the hippest U.S. presidents ever, from his taste in music to his sense of humor, and he's also one of the geekiest, too. He loves science, and he loves science fiction. Last year, he named The Martian his favorite movie of 2016, while this week he talked about humans making the trip to Mars by the 2030s. Now he's got more for us on the fictional front, as he recently discussed his essential sci-fi movies and television shows with Wired, for whom he guest edited their November issue. Here is "the viewing list to expand your mind to new horizons" as chosen by the current President of the United States: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968): “It captures the grandeur and scale of the unknown.” Blade Runner (1982...

Scarlett Johansson Is Talking to Marvel About Multiple 'Black Widow' Movies

Posted: 13 Oct 2016 04:00 PM PDT

With continued demand for more female-driven superhero movies, now seems like the right time to finally give Scarlett Johansson that solo Black Widow movie fans have been asking for since the character debuted in Iron Man 2. Marvel Studios' first fully female-driven film won't come till Brie Larson stars in Captain Marvel in 2019, and while Avengers: Infinity War will likely keep Johansson busy through 2018 and 2019, might we see Black Widow finally get her own movie -- or even better, her own series of films -- in 2020 and beyond? If you listen to the way Johansson speaks about those prospects, it could actually happen. Talking to both Variety and Collider, the actress reveals she speaks "often" with Marvel and Kevin Feige about a Black Widow...

Watch Adrian Grenier in First 'Trash Fire' Trailer

Posted: 13 Oct 2016 02:30 PM PDT

Debuting on HBO a dozen years ago, Entourage proved to be an enduring hit on the premium cable network, following Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his lifelong friends from Queens as they endeavored to carve out successful careers in the entertainment business. The comedy series was inspired by Mark Wahlberg's experiences during his early years in Hollywood. After the show completed its eighth and final season in 2011, a movie adaptation followed last year. Grenier and the other leading actors have faced a tall order in finding other distinctive roles. In between filming seasons of Entourage, Grenier appeared in smaller roles in The Devil Wears Prada and others, though he also busied himself making several documentaries. His latest starring role is now heading to...
