Documentary Director Alex Gibney to Make His Narrative Debut With a 1970s-set Political Thriller

Posted: 31 Mar 2016 10:00 PM PDT

Alex Gibney is known for being a busy man. The Oscar-winning director of Taxi to the Dark Side and last year's controversial Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, tends to churn out at least a few documentaries every year, despite his claims that he'll slow down one of these days. Now he's adding something new and different to his plate: a narrative feature.  According to Deadline, the prolific filmmaker is working with Lionsgate and producer Michael Sugar, who just won an Academy Award for Spotlight, on The Action. Interestingly enough, the script by Scott Z. Burns (The Informant!) appears to be based on a true story that was just recently told in a terrific documentary by Johanna Hamilton called 1971.   Activists calling themselves the...

The Last Horror Blog: 'Inside' Remake Lands a Director, Plus: First Trailer for the 'Wolf Creek' Miniseries

Posted: 31 Mar 2016 08:30 PM PDT

English remake of Inside lands a director – Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s Inside is one of the crown jewels of the all too short French New Wave horror movement. A harrowing tale of a pregnant woman stalked in her home, it’s intense, gory, visceral, and essentially (aside from a few logic issues) perfect. So, normally, news of a remake would be met with groans. However, this newly announced English language version could be interesting… Miguel Angel Vivas (who gave us the highly-entertaining film Kidnapped) will direct the update (which features a script from [Rec] filmmaker Jaume Balaguero) when it begins shooting in the very near future. Given that this doesn’t seem to be a traditional Hollywood-styled remake, and that Kidnapped certainly...

'Big Bang Theory' Star Jim Parsons May Be the New 'Man-Witch'

Posted: 31 Mar 2016 07:00 PM PDT

Back in 2005 Warner Bros. shelled out a lot of money to buy a script called Man-Witch. At various points it was set to star Jack Black or Zach Galifianakis and The Hangover's Todd Phillips had even been attached to direct it. Obviously those versions never came to pass -- pretty sure we'd all remember a Jack Black comedy called Man-Witch -- but Warner Bros. is still content to get their money's worth. This time they just may. The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons is currently in talks with the studio to not only produce the movie, but star in it as well. So what exactly is a Man-Witch? Turns out it's exactly what the title implies. Parsons would play a teacher who learns late in life that he actually has the powers of a witch. He seeks out others like him and in...

Joseph Kosinski Made a Rad, Demon-Slaying Trailer for the 'Doom' Reboot

Posted: 31 Mar 2016 05:30 PM PDT

Joseph Kosinksi is no stranger to making trailers to hype up people. And we're not talking about standard trailers you put together once you're actually done with a movie. We're talking about a package put together out of thin air. That's what he did to land the job directing Tron: Legacy. Disney didn't quite know what they wanted to do with the project, so Kosinski begged them to give him just a little bit of resources to put together a test. The resulting footage blew away the studio and the movie got the green light. Since then Kosinski, who unsurprisingly got his start working in computer graphics, has been able to focus full time on his own feature film projects (his next movie is No Exit, a drama about firefighters), but every now and then he dips a...

Jesse Eisenberg Doesn't Know If Lex Luthor Is In 'Justice League,' Plus: More Geeky 'BvS' Easter Eggs

Posted: 31 Mar 2016 03:30 PM PDT

When you name a movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and announce a sequel called Justice League before the first movie is even done filming, you're setting up expectations that major elements will carry over to its sequel. And yet that may not quite be the case with Zack Snyder's pair of superhero extravaganzas. There's no way to get into this without getting into spoilers for Batman v Superman, so...   SPOILER ALERT   The end of BvS finds two of its main characters seemingly down and out. Superman is dead, Lex Luthor is in jail. They're not down permanently, of course. Rarely is anything actually permanent in a superhero movie. General Zod died in Man of Steel and even he found a way into BvS. The movie already teases Superman...

'Finding Dory' Cast Fills Out With a Surprise 'The Wire' Reunion

Posted: 31 Mar 2016 02:00 PM PDT

The animated sequel to 2003s Finding Nemo has been a long time coming, but the more we hear about Finding Dory -- including brand new characters portraits, pictured here -- the more excited we are to finally see the movie for ourselves.  By August 2013, we knew that the forgetful Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), pictured at top, would be searching for her family while Marlin (Albert Brooks) and son Nemo would be looking for her. We also knew that Dory's parents would be voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton, with Ty Burrell set to voice a comical beluga whale named Bailey.  Two years later, we learned that Ed O'Neill would be voicing an octupus named Hank and Kaitlin Olson would be lending her voice to a whale shark named Destiny. Now we have the final...
