Watch NSYNC Say Bye, Bye, Bye to Zombies In First 'Dead 7' Trailer

Posted: 17 Mar 2016 09:00 PM PDT

The Syfy channel has long, long been known for being the go-to network for goofy, low budget movies with outlandish hooks to them. Five to ten years ago that meant movies like Rock Monster, Ice Spiders, Snakehead Terror and Man with the Screaming Brain. That was back before the days of social media and viral content, though. You could get by with simply having a movie be about a woolly mammoth that comes back to life after a UFO crashes into it. That mutated mammoth don't hunt in the age of Twitter, though. These days a Syfy movie has to have a ridiculous premise/title and a gimmick cast to standout. That's how something like Sharknado becomes a franchise phenomenon, and it's a model the network plans to follow up with Dead 7, a zombie movie starring former '90s...

Timur Bekmambetov Explains How a Facebook Message Led to 'Hardcore Henry'

Posted: 17 Mar 2016 06:21 PM PDT

Language comes up a lot when talking to Timur Bekmambetov, director of Wanted and Night Watch and producer of Unfriended and 9. But we're not talking about the language barrier between his Russian tongue and English. It's the barrier between what he sees in his head and what the language of cinema will allow him to do. That cinematic language barrier has never been more apparent than with Bekmambetov's newest film as a producer, Hardcore Henry. This already notorious action movie shatters the traditional language of cinema. While the first person perspective is certainly not new to movies, what separates Hardcore Henry from others is writer-director Ilya Naishuller made it entirely from a first person perspective. The cameramen were basically extreme sports...

In Honor of St. Patrick's Day, We Rank the 'Leprechaun' Movies

Posted: 17 Mar 2016 05:00 PM PDT

Note: The piece from Scott Neumyer originally ran a few years ago, but we love it so much it's become a tradition to repost it every St. Patrick's Day. Enjoy! I’m going to tell you something that you might find hard to believe: I just watched all six Leprechaun films back to back, in one marathon viewing session, so you don’t have to. Ah… the things I do for you loyal Movies.com readers. You’re so lucky. Not only did I watch the Leprechaun films, but I also kept running totals and analyzed each film to determine how they stack up against each other. (* Thanks to fine folks at Exclusiv Vodka for providing enough alcohol to get us through this project. By the time we got through Leprechaun 4: In Space it was all gone. Man, that’s a tough one to...

Michael Mann Cooking Up More 'Heat'

Posted: 17 Mar 2016 03:30 PM PDT

In December 1995, a movie about police and thieves made a big impact. Heat, written and directed by Michael Mann (above right), featured the first meeting between Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the same scene. Beyond that, it was a large-scale and extremely stylish action movie that became a box office success, eventually earning more than $187 million at the box office worldwide. Now Mann wants to tell another story related to Heat. It's actually a rather small element of much bigger plans that he has in mind, according to Deadline. The filmmaker will launch Michael Mann Books with the goal of publishing books that will be simultaneously developed as potential film and television projects. Mann will work with a "core group of authors" to produce both...

Lobo: Jason Fuchs (Pan, Wonder Woman) has been hired to write the screenplay for Lobo, based on the DC comic book character.
