9 Times Batman Was So Awesome We Forgot About Superman

Posted:

Soon, Batman and Superman will finally throw down.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" marks the first time the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel have appeared together on the big-screen, and the team-up has been years in the making.

During that time, the Batman has had three different franchise opportunities to win over fans and prove that he doesn't need a guy in red boots and a cape to help him be awesome. The Caped Crusader can do that all on his own.

Here's the proof:

'Parenthood' Reunion! Mae Whitman Joins 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Alongside Lauren Graham

Posted:

NBCUniversal's "2013 Summer TCA Tour" - ArrivalsMae Whitman, who starred alongside Lauren Graham on NBC's "Parenthood," will reunite with her onetime onscreen mom in the upcoming "Gilmore Girls" revival.

TVLine reports that Whitman has signed on for the revival in a cameo role, though the specifics are being closely guarded for now. What the site can tell us, however, is that Whitman "shares a really fun (albeit small) moment with Graham that will delight 'Parenthood' fans."

Graham played mom Sarah Braverman to Whitman's daughter Amber for six seasons on the NBC drama, though of course, her portrayal of Lorelai, mother of Alexis Bledel's Rory on "Gilmore," preceded that show. Could the scene between Graham and Whitman perhaps have something to do with the awkwardness of Graham's two TV daughters colliding? Whitman hilariously pointed out the (fake) tension between herself and Bledel when the pair met last summer.

Regardless of the specifics, we're excited to see the pair together again onscreen. And considering Whitman is a huge "Gilmore" fan, we're glad that she's able to realize her dream of visiting Stars Hollow. If only the rest of us were so lucky.

The "Gilmore Girls" revival is set to hit Netflix sometime later this year.

Margot Robbie to Play Tonya Harding in Biopic 'I, Tonya'

Posted:

"Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" World Premiere - ArrivalsMargot Robbie is playing antiheroine Harley Quinn in this summer's "Suicide Squad," and her next project centers around an equally complicated figure: She's reportedly attached to star in a biopic about disgraced ice skater Tonya Harding.

According to Deadline, Robbie snagged the lead in in "I, Tonya," a flick about Harding's rise to fame in the world of figure skating in the late '80s and early '90s, and her subsequent fall from grace after the Nancy Kerrigan scandal. Harding became a superstar thanks to her feisty spirit and undeniable talent, and was the first female ice skater to land a triple axle in competition. She was expected to challenge fellow U.S. star Kerrigan for the gold medal at the 1994 Olympics, but at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships earlier that year, Kerrigan was clubbed in the knee by an unknown assailant.

It was soon discovered that Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, had hired several men to carry out the bizarre attack, in an effort to prevent Kerrigan from attending the Olympics. Kerrigan eventually recovered, though, and went on to win a silver medal; Harding fizzled in the event, finishing a distant eighth.

The scandal set off a worldwide media firestorm, and remains to this day one of the most shocking events in sporting history. Harding was eventually banned from competitive skating for life, and was stripped of her 1994 U.S. Championship title (which she won in Kerrigan's absence after the attack). To this day, she has maintained that she didn't know about Gillooly's involvement in the attack until after it was carried out.

Needless to say, this is an incredibly juicy role for Robbie, and interest level in the story continues to remain high. ESPN even devoted an installment of its "30 for 30" series to the scandal, producing the excellent "The Price of Gold" in time for the event's 20th anniversary in 2014. It's unclear just how closely this project will mirror ESPN's, though considering "I, Tonya" is not a documentary, we'd imagine screenwriter Steven Rogers will take some liberties with the tale.

Deadline's report also says that Rogers based his script on extensive interviews with both Harding and Gillooly, an interesting detail. It's believed that "I, Tonya" will be a more sympathetic look at Harding, who grew up poor in a working class community, and was considered the scrappy, unrefined counterpart to ice princess Kerrigan, who hailed from a wealthy family.

Robbie has reportedly taken charge of the search for a director for the project, and we hope she lands one soon. We're dying to see this film (and see who they cast as Kerrigan -- maybe Jessica Paré?).

Hank Williams Plays Hardball in Exclusive 'I Saw the Light' Clip

Posted:

EXCLUSICE: Clip - "I Saw The Light"
Hank Williams became a legend for his piercing voice, catchy tunes, and charming swagger, but as this exclusive clip from the new biopic "I Saw the Light" shows, he could wheel and deal, too.

Hank (Tom Hiddleston) and his producer, Fred (Bradley Whitford), meet with a movie mogul to discuss the possibility of the singer joining the cast of "Small Town Girl," starring Farley Granger and Jane Powell.

That's exciting news to the two men. "My wife loves Jane Powell!" Fred exclaims.

But there's one small hitch: Money. When the mogul lays out the terms of the deal -- four weeks, $4,500 a week -- Hank isn't thrilled. He thinks he's worth a lot more than that.

"I Saw the Light" traces Hank's journey through his meteoric rise to the top of country music, all while he struggles with inner demons, alcoholism, and marriage problems with wife Audrey (Elizabeth Olsen). The movie opens in theaters this Friday.I Saw the LightWant more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.

Harrison Ford Excited to Play Indiana Jones Again, Argued for Han Solo's Fate

Posted:

BRITAIN-US-ENTERTAINMENT-FILM-STARWARSHarrison Ford definitely plays favorites when it comes to his characters.

On "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Ford talked about two of his most iconic characters — Han Solo from "Star Wars" and Indiana Jones" — and revealed he's happy to revive one and put the other to the grave.

As we saw in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (SPOILER ALERT), Han Solo died at the hands of his son, Kylo Ren. Ford first joked that it was "shocking" to be "just let go" after 30 years of playing the character, but in reality, he approved of Han's death.

"I argued for 30 years for this to happen, and finally I wore 'em down," he said.

As for Indiana Jones, Ford can't wait to make a fifth movie as the fedora-wearing, whip-bearing archaeologist. It will be directed by Steven Spielberg and is set for release in July 2019.

"It's fun. It's great fun to play this character," he said. "It's great fun to work with Steven. I'm looking forward to it."

11 Times 'Clarissa Explained It All' Just Got It

"Clarissa Explains It All" was essentially the guidebook to being cool in the '90s. Clarissa (Melissa Joan Hart) always dressed awesome, and she knew exactly what it was like to be a teen. Even though it's 2016, much of her wisdom still applies.

Here are 11 times Clarissa Darling was our ultimate spirit animal.

The 7 Funniest Movies You've (Probably) Never Seen

Posted:

Long before he was cranking out reliable Oscar-season fare like "Silver Linings Playbook," David O. Russell was a struggling indie writer-director with one squirmy comedy about incest ("Spanking the Monkey") under his belt.

Then, 20 years ago this week, on March 22, 1996, he released the comedy "Flirting With Disaster," starring Ben Stiller, and... crickets. (It would be another three years before "Three Kings" scored Russell his first mainstream hit.)

It's too bad, since "Flirting" is a very funny film, marked by the breakneck pacing that Russell's fans have come to appreciate. But let's face it, not all comedies find their audience right away, and not all worthy comedies even become cult favorites later. Here are seven outrageously funny films worthy of rediscovery now.
