'Demolition' Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Wants to Make You Cry

Posted: 08 Sep 2015 09:15 PM PDT

Jake Gyllenhaal's recent movie wives don't even have a lifespan long enough to survive the trailer. At least that was the case with Southpaw and now Demolition, the latest movie from Wild and Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallée. In it Gyllenhaal stars as a man facing some tough times when his life is shattered by the death of his wife. That may be a somewhat familiar setup for a movie, but what looks to really take Demolition to the next level is yet another remarkable performance by Gyllenhaal. It seems like year after year he's getting better and better material to work with (he's certainly grown a lot since Bubble Boy), and it's probably a safe bet that this is a movie to keep an eye on for his performance alone. Of course...

Early Buzz On This Fall's Prestige Films: 'Steve Jobs,' 'Black Mass' and More

Posted: 08 Sep 2015 07:00 PM PDT

A lot of this fall's hottest releases premiered at film festivals in the last few days, and going by all the positive buzz it's looking to be a great season at the movies. Here are some of the best blurbs we've seen so far on some of our most anticipated titles:   Steve Jobs (Oct. 9) Danny Boyle's movie about the titular tech icon, with a script by Aaron Sorkin and a lead performance by Michael Fassbender, is being called a likely Best Picture contender and better than The Social Network. It seems we can forget that other Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher for good now. "Like Steve Jobs the person: astonishingly brilliant whenever it’s not breaking your heart." - David Ehrlich, Time Out New York "Racing in high gear from...

Watch What Happens When the Director of 'Juan of the Dead' Heads to 'From Dusk Till Dawn'

Posted: 08 Sep 2015 06:30 PM PDT

It's no secret that TV in general has been going through a bit of a golden age recently. Budgets for shows have gotten bigger and bigger, which means an ability to deliver some big screen worthy spectacle on the small screen. But one of the coolest things about this new golden age of TV isn't just that the shows are getting bigger, it's that they're becoming a great place for feature film directors to flex some new muscles in between movies. That's the case for Alejandro Brugués, who directed tonight's episode of El Rey Network's From Dusk Till Dawn. The Cuban-born director burst on to the international film scene with the great zombie comedy Juan of the Dead, and since then he's been trying to get a few different projects off the ground. But...

Posted: 08 Sep 2015 04:30 PM PDT

Also, we expect some theaters to stage a...

Sam Smith Will Sing the New 007 Theme Song for 'SPECTRE'

Posted: 08 Sep 2015 12:00 PM PDT

Following a tease on social media over the weekend, Sony Pictures has officially announced Sam Smith ("Stay with Me," "I'm Not the Only One") as the voice behind the upcoming theme song for the 24th James Bond movie, SPECTRE. The song, titled "Writing's on the Wall," will be available on September 25, and it marks the first time a British male solo artist has performed the 007 theme song since Tom Jones did it for 1965's Thunderball.
