Final Two 'Divergent' Movies Get New Titles, Logos, and Intriguing Taglines

Posted:

"Part 1" and "Part 2" is so passé. Good for "The Divergent Series" for ditching the labels for the last two movies, following "Divergent" and "Insurgent." The final book in Veronica Roth's trilogy is called "Allegiant" and the studio planned to break it up into two movies. That's still happening, but what was previously titled "The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 1," and "The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 2," is now "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" (March 18, 2016) and "The Divergent Series: Ascendant" (March 24, 2017).

MTV got the scoop, noting that the final Shailene Woodley movies will expand the book's story in mysterious ways. They also revealed the two films' new logos and taglines.

So the tagline for "Allegiant" is "Break the Boundaries of Your World" and "Ascendant" has the intriguing tease "The End Is Never What You Expect." Really? Not what we expect -- is that a hint to a twist on the book's ending, or just a hint to anyone who hasn't read the book that maybe they should "expect the unexpected"?

More importantly, Ansel Elgort took his shirt off with Theo James when celebrating the wrap of "Allegiant." Now we know that "Allegiant" and "Ascendant" are different factions from the same franchise, so maybe he'll share another shirtless photo for the final movie.

The first episode, "Sledgehammer," will guest star Debbie Allen and Joy Lauren Adams and show Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew) adapting to changes.

Here's ABC's synopsis for "Sledgehammer," which was directed by Kevin McKidd, aka Owen Hunt:

Meanwhile, Meredith must adjust to changes at home with her new roommates while Bailey continues to fight for the Chief of Surgery position and Jackson prepares for April's return to Seattle."

Poor Meredith can never catch a break. She loses the love of her life and now she has has roommate problems. (Ellen Pompeo said Meredith will be living with Amelia and Maggie, "throwing herself into her work and her kids" and possibly getting a promotion.)

Charlie Hunnam Cried for 20 Minutes Over Leaving 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

Posted:

FX 2014 Summer TCAIt was either bad timing or good timing that pushed Charlie Hunnam out of the role of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey." The role went to Jamie Dornan and he'll keep it into the next films. There was some thought that the "Sons of Anarchy" actor had second thoughts about joining the "Fifty Shades" world, but Charlie told V Man magazine (via People) that it still haunts him that he had to disappoint so many people and back away.

It was the worst professional experience of my life. It was the most emotionally destructive and difficult thing that I've ever had to deal with professionally. It was heartbreaking."

Why did he leave? Because he had already given his word to his friend Guillermo del Toro to do "Crimson Peak" and when the filming schedules clashed -- between the end of "Sons of Anarchy" to "Fifty Shades" to "Crimson Peak" -- he didn't want to half-arse any of the roles and decided Christian Grey was a no-go.

The toughest part, he said, was having to tell director Sam Taylor-Johnson that he would no longer be her Christian. Based on Charlie's description, it sounds like it was a really emotional breakup call.

I called her and we both cried our eyes out on the phone for 20 minutes. I needed to tell her that this was not going to work."

It's not you, it's me! At least they bounced back all right with Jamie Dornan. And Charlie's fans seem more than fine with him leaving "Fifty Shades" -- they think he was too good for it anyway.

Meanwhile, the second movie, "Fifty Shades Darker," is scheduled for a February 10, 2017 release. The third movie, "Fifty Shades Freed," is scheduled for February 9, 2018.

Watch Tom Hiddleston Sing in First Clip From 'I Saw the Light'

Posted:

Tom Hiddleston may still be best known to film fans -- and "The Avengers" -- as Loki, but he's about to change all that. The British actor plays country music legend Hank Williams in the upcoming biopic "I Saw the Light," and he recently shared the first clip from the movie:

Doesn't he look good singing "Move It On Over"? He doesn't sound like the real Hank, but a believable performance isn't necessarily tied to mimicking the same exact voice. Hank had a unique sound, and that's probably why he's a legend we're still talking about 60 years after his death. Hopefully that's not something audiences hold against Tom before watching the full movie.

But here's Hank singing the song:

The movie, which is based on the book "Hank Williams: The Biography," follows Hank's rise to fame and sudden death at the way too young age of 29. Elizabeth Olsen (another "Avengers" star) plays Hank's wife Audrey, who was also his manager and duet partner.

"I Saw the Light" will be released on November 27, 2015.

Evil Queen? Here's 'Frozen' Re-Edited With Elsa as the Villain

Posted:

Aren't most Disney villains really just misunderstood loners who are maybe a wee bit too awesome for the people around them to appreciate? No? Well, Elsa did not end up the villain of "Frozen," but not only was that one of the original plans for the character, a new video shows how easy it would be to re-edit the existing footage to make her The Big Bad.

BloodBlitz Comedy -- the YouTubers behind Harry Potter as the villain and an attempt to show Joffrey as the hero of "Game of Thrones" -- once again played spin doctors with Queen Elsa. In the 2-minute video, Princess Anna appears to be in danger as her "demented" "monster" of a sister tries to use her powers to kill her.

Check it out:

It's like a horror movie. But maybe evil Elsa and evil Harry should go out for a drink sometime. Just saying.

In the book "The Art of Frozen," director Jennifer Lee said that Elsa was originally conceptualized as the antagonist of the movie. "They kept calling her the 'villain,'" she said. "But there came a point where we said, 'We can't use that word anymore.' You care about someone who's been [forced] to hide who they are. Elsa's not a villain, she just makes some bad choices because she's in a very difficult situation."

Poor Elsa. Did she even make "bad choices" or was she left without any choices? #DinnerPartyTopics

Deadpool Reads Judy Blume in New Photo With Co-Star

Posted:

That Merc with a Mouth has a sensitive side. "Deadpool" is going to be rated R (a hard R, they say) but star Ryan Reynolds went a little PG-13 on Twitter when sharing a photo in full costume. Here's Wade Wilson/Deadpool, reading Judy Blume's classic "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" alongside Brianna Hildebrand as Ellie Phimister, aka Negasonic Teenage Warhead, a mutant telepath who can see into the future:

As Ryan notes, Deadpool is just trying to connect with the young badass -- and what better way to understand a girl than through Judy Blume? #truth

This movie is going to be ridiculous, in all the best ways. We're counting the days until the release on February 12, 2016. Ryan wrapped filming back in May, but we can look forward to (hopefully) more "Deadpool" teases from him on Twitter, plus maybe more previews like that awesome red band trailer.

Watch Cute Kids Re-Enact 2015 Emmy Nominated TV Shows

Posted:

The 2015 Emmys will be handed out next Sunday, September 20 and, this year, it's not an honor just to be nominated, it's an honor to be nominated, then mocked by the hilarious children of this video.

Mom.me gathered several talented young'uns to showcase some of this year's top drama and comedy nominees, including "Orange Is the New Black," "The Last Man On Earth," "Homeland," "Transparent," "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," and "Silicon Valley." The result is adorable, but also enlightening for anyone who didn't realize how "extremely convoluted" most of the best shows on TV really are. From the mouths of babes!

Check it out:

Impressive! They managed to capture Piper's annoying self-absorption on OITNB (they're right, she is "silly"), Brody's magic mist over Carrie on "Homeland," the roller-coaster of "Silicon Valley," and the sheer oddness of the plot of "Kimmy Schmidt." But as long as the kids on "Transparent" get their Monopoly money it's all good.

Here's the full list of 2015 Emmy nominees.

Here's Your First Look at Hawkman & Hawkgirl in 'Legends of Tomorrow'

Posted:

hawkman, hawkgirl, dc, legends of tomorrowDC has released the first image of Hawkman and Hawkgirl from its upcoming "Arrow" and "The Flash" spinoff, "Legends of Tomorrow," and the characters look just as cool as you'd hoped.

The photo, featuring newcomer actress Ciara Renée as Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl) and actor Falk Hentschel as Carter Hall (Hawkman), shows off the two heroes' sleek leather costumes and funky bird-like masks, which evoke both a sense of mystery and a hint of whimsy -- exactly what a comic book adaptation should do. But don't be fooled by Hawkgirl's small smile on display here: this twosome is tough, and ready to spring into action. (Hawkman's mace is certainly menacing.)

Here's the official synopsis for the series, per the DC Comics site:

With powers derived from the ancient Egyptian hawk god, Horus, Kendra and Carter are destined to reincarnate through time as winged, helmeted warriors. On DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Hawkgirl and Hawkman will fight alongside the Atom, Firestorm, White Canary, Captain Cold and Heat Wave against the immortal Vandal Savage. Look for them to initially debut in this season's Arrow and The Flash crossover episode before moving on to DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

Sounds super to us. Stay tuned for an official "Legends of Tomorrow" premiere date, and until then, check out the full photo below.

Taylor Swift Just Won an Emmy; Is an EGOT Next?

Posted:

2015 MTV Video Music Awards - ArrivalsAh, the EGOT -- the elusive achievement bestowed upon only the greatest of entertainers, a.k.a. those who've won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. It's always a buzzword around awards season, as new contenders enter the ring every year, and now, arguably the biggest star on the planet has just begun her campaign for the honor.

Taylor Swift is the latest person on a quest for EGOT glory, after she won an Emmy in the creative arts category for her video, "Blank Space." Here's the details, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Swift nabbed an Emmy for original interactive program for her AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience. The singer starred in and has an executive producer credit on the project, which debuted with the release of her "Blank Space" music video in 2014.

Shot with a 360-degree camera, the program allowed Swift fans to explore the sets of the elaborate Joseph Kahn-directed video for the second single off of her 1989 album.

Apparently, Swift herself was unaware of the honor, having been asleep when the award was announced. She said on Twitter that she didn't know she'd nabbed the statuette until she saw THR's own tweet about the news, and initially thought it was a prank. (Insert your own Taylor-Swift-"surprised"-face joke here.) While Swift celebrates her newly-minted "Emmy winner" status -- in addition to all her past Grammy wins -- we're already dreaming of the ways she can snag the last two trophies. Vulture suggests she can contribute an original song to the next "Mockingjay" soundtrack for Oscar contention, but we think Swift wouldn't truly be satisfied with an Academy Award win for anything other than acting. (Again, insert a Taylor-Swift-"surprised"-face joke.)

Perhaps she can land a Jennifer Hudson-style part that will flex both her pipes and her acting muscles (and maybe originate the role in a Tony-winning Broadway production)? We're sure Swift's thought of this scenario a time or two in her wildest dreams, and we expect her to make an aggressive play for an EGOT.

Knock Back Some Potions at This 'Harry Potter'-Themed Bar

Posted:

the lockhart, harry potter, harry potter bar, harry potter-themed barFirst there was a "Harry Potter"-themed classroom to inspire young wannabe witches and wizards, and now, there's a "Harry Potter"-themed bar for their older, Butterbeer-obsessed siblings.

The Lockhart, which just opened in Toronto, pays homage to all things Potter, in everything from its name (a nod to former Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Gilderoy) to its decor (the bar is labeled with a "Potions & Elixers" sign) to its cocktail menu (anyone up for a Shacklebolt or Befuddlement Brew?). And there are plenty of other magical surprises awaiting patrons.

"Without knowing any of the Harry Potter stuff, you already will think of this as a cool bar. You'd come here and see the stag's head on the wall and go 'Wow, I love that', but a Harry Potter fan might say 'That's a Patronus'," said co-owner Paris Xerx, in an interview with Now Toronto.

Xerx and fellow co-owner Matt Rocks are diehard Potterheads (they told Now Toronto that they're both Hufflepuffs, and their Patronus symbols would be a whale and a manatee, respectively), and it really shows in the details: a hidden Deathly Hallows symbol awaits inquisitive patrons, as do copies of the "Potter" books. And the crowning piece of decor is a neon-lit heart symbol that bears the last line of the series, "All was well." We're swooning just thinking about it.

Check out some photos of the bar below, and try out your disapparating spell to transport yourself to Toronto, stat. Accio cocktails!

It's happening. Can you feel it?

There's More Batman Than Superman in 'Dawn of Justice,' Zack Snyder Says

Posted:

batman v supermanWith all the hubbub surrounding the casting of Ben Affleck in next spring's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," it should come as no surprise that Batfleck will be a prominent part of the flick -- and according to director Zack Snyder, he's going to have more screen time than Henry Cavill's Superman.

Snyder confirmed that fact in an interview with The Daily Beast, in which he explained that it was necessary to feature more of the Caped Crusader in order to establish his new character in the context of the burgeoning "Justice League" empire.

" ... [I]t's a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to do-and you just had a whole Superman movie," Snyder told the site. " ... [Y]ou need to understand where Batman is with everything. And that's more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on."

Still, that doesn't mean that "Dawn of Justice" is entirely Batman's show, and the titular twosome will indeed have plenty of time to play off of one another throughout the flick, the director said.

"They're actually opposite sides of the same coin," Synder told The Daily Beast. "It's interesting because Batman's a man and Superman's a god, if you think about it in those terms. So their relationship is very contentious. What Superman sees as Batman's limits, Batman sees as Superman trying to control him, acting like an absolute dictator. ... Their conflict is based on each others' understanding of the other's weakness."

Like the previous trailer, that premise sounds pretty dark, but if anyone can play with that theme, it's Snyder. We'll see how it all shakes out when "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

A King Kong vs. Godzilla Mashup Movie May Be in the Works

Posted:

An interesting new report from Deadline suggests that two legendary monster movie properties may be gearing up for an epic onscreen showdown.

According to the trade, former Universal property "Kong: Skull Island" has recently switched studios and moved to Warner Bros. While that in and of itself isn't all that interesting -- in-development films can change studios at any time, especially before the cameras roll -- what makes the move significant is that Warner Bros. is the current studio behind the "Godzilla" franchise. Could this mean that a King Kong vs. Godzilla flick is on the horizon?

Deadline's report emphatically suggests so, stating that the switch was made specifically to "unite the property with [production company] Legendary's other giant franchise, 'Godzilla.'" And furthermore, Deadline says, that makes way for "the 'Godzilla' sequel that is in the works [to] be followed by a movie that pits the giant ape versus the giant fire breathing reptile."

Considering how high interest in both creatures is right now -- both properties were long-dormant in Hollywood before the announcement of "Skull Island," and 2014's "Godzilla" subsequently roared new life into that franchise -- this move makes sense. There's no set timeline on this just yet, and "Godzilla 2" isn't due to hit theaters until at least 2018, so we'll have to wait a while before this is confirmed.

But the possibility is intriguing and exciting, and immediately brings to mind the classic "Godzilla" flicks of the 1960s, when the titular beast battled a host of other giant creatures like Mothra (who is slated to appear in "Godzilla 2"). Kong is certainly more iconic, though, and this could be a truly spectacular battle. Keep your fingers crossed, and stay tuned.

A New 'Spectre' TV Spot Asks, Is James Bond Finished?

Posted:

The marketers behind the James Bond franchise must have been reading the recent headlines predicting who will take over the 007 title once Daniel Craig hangs up his keys to the Aston Martin, as a new TV spot promoting "Spectre" prominently asks the question: Is Bond finished?

Of course, he's "just getting started," as Craig-as-Bond proceeds to put on a master class in snapping necks, throwing punches, firing guns, and felling helicopters, proving that he's still got what it takes to lead this series for years to come if he's so inclined. The flashy promo also features some cheeky dialogue between Bond and Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux), who asks him, pointedly, "Why does a man choose the life of an assassin?"

Again, she could be speaking to Craig himself, though of course, the answer he delivers is pure Bond.

"It was either that or the priesthood," 007 replies, oozing suaveness.

Oh, James. Whether you're Craig, Elba, Hardy, Lewis, or Jackman in the future: never change.

Check out the spot below. "Spectre" is due in theaters in the U.S. on November 6.

The 9 Most Entertaining Reality TV Judges Ever

There are a few reality competition judges who go above and beyond. These judges entertain the audience week after week and season after season (or cycle after cycle if we're talking "America's Next Top Model.")

Best of Late Night TV: Andy Samberg and Carrie Underwood Kick Footballs (and Fail)

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

To celebrate NFL season, Jimmy Fallon, Carrie Underwood and Andy Samberg spent their time kicking footballs at photos of each other's faces on "The Tonight Show." Let's just say none of them have future careers in sports.

Remember when Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake danced at the U.S. Open and it went viral? Apparently, Andy Samberg was majorly unimpressed by their moves. Psh, whatever, Andy Samberg -- if that's even your real name. (Note: it is)

Johnny Depp showed up on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and after Kimmel announced that the audience is "so horny for you," he peppered Depp with questions about why Amber Heard didn't take his last name.

Welcome to "Law & Water" (not to be confused with "Law & Order"), in which Jimmy went on patrol with L.A.'s water police and yelled at people. What would we do without him?

Not to end things on a sad note, but Vice President Joe Biden swung by "The Late Show" and spoke about the tragic death of his son. While emotional, his thoughts are definitely worth watching.
