Posted: 17 Sep 2015 09:00 PM PDT

New Crimson Peak clip debuts – We’re less than a month away from the release of Guillermo del Toro’s latest feature, the already mesmerizing Crimson Peak. Naturally, the hype machine is starting to cycle into high gear. Earlier this week, we got a peek at a new clip from the film – which is set in a gothic mansion and features performances from Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Mia Wasikowska. Nothing overtly terrifying happens here, but we do get a glimpse of the period design in the film, as well as a menacing undercurrent to the conversation about keys… Crimson Peak opens on October 16.   Explore Freddy’s origins in short film The Confession of Fred Krueger – We’re all still mourning the...

Bryan Singer To Go From 'X-Men' to '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'

Posted: 17 Sep 2015 07:30 PM PDT

Bryan Singer is one of the few major Hollywood directors who has really embraced social media. He's used Twitter and Instagram to not only offer first looks at cast and locations for his last two X-Men movies, but he regularly uses it to announce news. And since today is his 50th birthday, he decided to share some news that's also a bit of a present to himself: His next movie will be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Singer doesn't mention what studio is making the movie, so we don't know if this is for Disney or Fox, both of whom had been working on new adaptations of the classic Jules Verne novel about an undersea adventure, or another studio entirely. But, that also doesn't matter so much. Since Verne's novel, originally published way back in 1869, is in...

Posted: 17 Sep 2015 06:00 PM PDT

The fall season is known for blowing things around, whether it's fallen leaves or movie release dates. As is common, a number of anticipated titles have been pushed back, though abormal for the season it doesn't appear any shifts have to do with Oscar contention. Here are four we've just heard about:   Brooklyn New Release Date: November 4 (limited) Old Release Date: November 6 What It's About: Based on the novel by Colm Tóibín, this Sundance Film Festival darling stars Saoirse Ronan as an Irish immigrant in 1950s New York City. She finds herself in a love triangle after falling for a man played by Emory Cohen in America, because she also has a suitor played by Domhnall Gleeson back in Ireland. Seven Times Evan Rachel Wood's Dubsmash Videos Made Our Day

Posted: 17 Sep 2015 04:30 PM PDT

Do you Dubsmash? Maybe you do, maybe you don't, but you gotta admit the little clips -- in which you can create selfie videos dubbed with famous sounds -- are kinda addicting, and we relish in watching those who've mastered the viral art. Like actress Evan Rachel Wood, who spoke about becoming the unofficial Dubsmash queen while in Toronto for the premiere of her latest film Into the Forest (pictured above), costarring Ellen Page. (Watch my 15-second review of Into the Forest right here) Wood told Vanity Fair that she started doing the Dubsmash videos when she had downtime on the set of the upcoming HBO show Westworld, and her obsession with them just spiraled out of control from there -- and now she's hosting Dubsmash parties at her house and throwing a bunch of...

Posted: 17 Sep 2015 03:00 PM PDT

Steve Jobs was one of the most influential men of the 20th and 21st centuries. A driving force in the personal computer and smartphone revolutions, his vision and commitment to bold new ideas changed the daily lives of billions of people. And while there have already been a number of movies about the man behind the iPhone, none have carried quite as much prestige as this fall's Steve Jobs. The new movie is directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours), written by Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, The Social Network), and stars Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class, Prometheus), and now we've got a new look at it thanks to the next full-length trailer below. The film has already screened for lucky film festival crowds, with buzz pegging it to be one of this...

Reel TV: Stephen King's 'The Mist' Gets a Series From the Makers of 'Scream'

Posted: 17 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT

The Mist is the kind of movie that hasn't gotten a totally fair shake over the years. A few dodgy bits of CGI and an ending that was both shocking and different from Stephen King's original story have held it back, but for my money Frank Darabont's movie about ordinary people caught up in an extremely unordinary scenario is still an entertaining, smart, and killer little powder keg of a monster movie. And soon it will be a (hopefully) entertaining, smart, killer powder keg of a monster TV show. The series is being conceived by Christian Torpe, a hit TV writer in Denmark with the comedy series Rita, for Dimension Television, who just wrapped up the first season of their surprisingly great Scream TV show. It's said to not only have Stephen King's blessing, but...

Movie News: Marvel's 'Gambit' Needs a New Director; Emily Blunt Touted for 'Mary Poppins 2'

Posted: 17 Sep 2015 12:00 PM PDT

Gambit: Marvel's Gambit, starring Channing Tatum (above in Jupiter Ascending) as a Southern cardshark and ladies' man with superpowers, now needs a new director. Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Gambler) has stepped aside, citing scheduling conflicts created when the start of production on the movie got pushed recently. It's not known what project Wyatt will be working on instead. Lea Seydoux is set to co-star with Tatum; filming is expected to begin in the early spring next year. [Deadline]   Mary Poppins 2: We just heard that Disney is developing a sequel to 1964's Mary Poppins, and popular actresses are already being touted for the lead role. A new rumor suggests that Emily Blunt is "on Disney's radar" and "may even...
