While the teacher-student relationship between him and Aria (Lucy Hale) is kiiiiind of gross, we aren't his students, so we can daydream about him all we want. Here are 11 times Ezra Fitz was our No. 1 bae.

'Roots' Remake Stacks Cast With Oscar Winners Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin

Posted:

Whitaker and PaquinA&E's "Roots" remake is drawing even more acclaimed actors to its cast. TV Line reports that Forest Whitaker ("Last King of Scotland") and Anna Paquin ("The Piano," "True Blood") have signed onto the eight-hour miniseries. They join Laurence Fishburne, who will portray "Roots" author Alex Haley.

The classic 1977 miniseries told the story of Kunta Kinte, from his capture in The Gambia in West Africa to his capture and enslavement in Virginia. It traced his family's struggles in slavery for generations, through the end of the Civil War.

In the remake, newcomers Malachi Kirby will play the iconic role of Kunta Kinte. Whitaker is his mentor, Fiddler, while Paquin is Nancy Holt, the wife of a Confederate soldier.

In addition to the Oscar winners, "Roots" has also added several actors to the cast, including: Derek Luke as Silla Ba Dibba, who trains Mandinka warriors; Anika Noni Rose as Kunta Kinte's daughter, Kizzy; "Tudors" star Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the social-climbing, uneducated slave owner Tom Lea; and "Walking Dead" actor Chad L. Coleman as one of Lea's slaves.

The "Roots" remake is currently filming and will air over four nights on A&E, Lifetime, and History sometime next year.

Chris Hemsworth Battles Killer Whale in New 'In the Heart of the Sea' Trailer

Posted:

In the Heart of the SeaThe scariest stories are often the ones that are real. "In the Heart of the Sea" is based on the true story of the whaling ship Essex, which was destroyed by a whale in 1820, and was an inspiration for Herman Melville's classic "Moby Dick."

The movie, which has a new trailer, is unrelenting in showing the savagery of the sea. Chris Hemsworth leads the embattled crew, as they attempt to survive the attack, try (and fail) to save the ship, then face the cold, vast ocean on three small rescue boats.
The whale attack is just the start of the crew's horrific ordeal - you can imagine what happens when a bunch of men are stuck in close quarters, with no food or water. This isn't just man vs. nature; it's man vs. man. Can they hold onto their humanity and get home at the same time? The questions the movie seems to pose, as well as the epic scenery, is all classic Ron Howard.

"In the Heart of the Sea" also stars Benjamin Walker, Tom Holland, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, and Ben Whishaw, and opens December 11.

'The Incredibles 2' Director Brad Bird Shares Sequel Updates

Posted:

It's time to check in on the real fantastic four of "The Incredibles." Disney/Pixar and director Brad Bird are working on the sequel and Bird recently shared some updates with Collider.

"I have the story arc," he told the site. "I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it. I've got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we're all having a good time with it." When is the movie coming out? Disney first gave the official word that "The Incredibles 2" and "Cars 3" were in development in March 2014, and it sounds like we're still far away from an official release date. Bird told Collider release dates are "a little fluid when you're making films so far in advance." He said he's just working as fast as he can with a relatively small team, because he prefers to work with smaller groups until everything is figured out.

Bird didn't share any specific "The Incredibles 2" plot details, but he did note that there are many more superhero movies on the scene now than there were back in 2004 when the first movie came out. "What you don't want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is," he said. "So we're trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we're having a good time."

Sounds good so far. And if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it with what everyone else is already doing. Here's more from Bird's talk with Collider. Are you excited to see how this one turns out?

Touching New 'Hunger Games' Trailer 'For Prim' May Make You Weep

Posted:

Just a second, there's something in our eyes. Can't quite see the screen to finish the new "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" trailer. CURSE YOU, PRESIDENT SNOW, YOU DID THIS TO OUR FEELINGS.

The latest trailer, called "For Prim," is a 2-minute-25-second tribute to Katniss Everdeen's little sister. This all started when Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteered as tribute in Primrose Everdeen's (Willow Shields) place. Now look where we are -- on the verge of The End. Lionsgate's haunting new video highlights the bond between the sisters, and the studio won't be satisfied until we're curled up in little balls, surrounded by tissues.

Here's the trailer:

Jennifer Lawrence also revealed a new poster, on the same day as the new trailer, and here it is:

Excited to share #MockingjayPart2 tickets will be available starting 10.1.15

Posted by Jennifer Lawrence on Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Here's a synopsis for Part 2:

With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow [Donald Sutherland] in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends - including Gale [Liam Hemsworth], Finnick [Sam Claflin], and Peeta [Josh Hutcherson] - Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to liberate the citizens of Panem, and stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games."

The revolution will be broadcast on November 20, 2015.

'Big Brother 17' Spoilers: Did Vanessa Rousso Just Win the $500K?

Posted:

*Warning: BB17 spoilers ahead from the live feeds.*

UPDATE 1: Vanessa evicted Johnny at Final 4, which was the smart move since he immediately told Julie Chen he would've evicted her. They didn't plan to keep their words to each other. Stay tuned for results from Part 1 (endurance) of the Final HOH competition. Vanessa is the favorite to take this one, against Liz and Steve, but we'll see.

Four Head of Household wins. Three Power of Veto wins. Countless tears, blindsides, more tears, deals, tears, "reasons," tears, beanies, tears, "my word," tears, and successful mist manipulations. Vanessa Rousso deserves to win "Big Brother 17." Will she? Fans will see the professional poker player get at least one step closer on tonight's Wednesday, September 16 show -- which will show her winning the all-important Final 4 Veto -- then we'll see if she gets even further in the final HOH competition.

Previously on Biiiiig Brotherrrrrrr, Steve Moses (accidentally?) won himself the Final 4 HOH competition. That's where Tuesday's show ended and tonight's live eviction will bring us down to the final three. Who will join Steve in that three-part competition, to determine the final two and winner? Well, when the live feeds returned, it was revealed that HOH Steve had nominated his allies, Johnny Mac McGuire and Vanessa, aka the people who just saved him by Judas-ing Judas. It was also revealed that Vanessa won the Power of Veto.

That's huge.

Vanessa knew she needed the Final 4 POV to have a prayer of winning the game. If she didn't get that, everyone would vote her out. Steve was especially looking forward to taking her out as a strong argument to the jury. But she's safe, and she alone gets to decide whether to evict Johnny Mac (her target last week) or Liz Nolan (whose showmance mate she just evicted). Either way, she has an excellent shot of winning the final HOH competition and (unless the jury is INCREDIBLY bitter) the entire game.

Right now, it's not clear what Vanessa will do during tonight's live eviction, although Johnny was her target before so she may just send him out. Steve wants Johnny to stay, but he's also having an existential crisis in the BB17 house, because he may have either thrown the POV comp or just "chickened out" (his words) of his plan to evict Vanessa. He wanted that move on his resume going into final three, figuring (rightly) that the jury would be impressed with Steve backstabbing his longtime ally, aka the biggest player in the game.
But Steve either threw the comp or just plain didn't win (Update: On TV, Steve was shown in the Diary Room saying he just didn't get the days right) and Vanessa now has the power. She is more likely to beat Steve in the final endurance comp, and she can match him on the mental stuff. Can she be beat at all? Johnny is a good match for her when it comes to endurance, and he usually almost wins every other comp. She knows this and may take it into consideration, figuring she can (maybe) beat Liz and Steve in the final comps and should beat them with jury votes. (In this parting words, Austin "Judas" Matelson told Vanessa she wouldn't win the game, but he's wrong. The jury would take shots at Vanessa but then they'd hold their noses and give her the win. Right?)

Tonight, after the live eviction, we should see Part 1 of the Final HOH competition on the live feeds, with Part 2 happening on Friday, with the end result known on the live season finale next Wednesday, September 23.

Can Vanessa lose at this point? Yeah. If Johnny stays, he or Steve could win. And Steve could win if he ends up next to Liz. But Liz could also potentially win next to Steve if Steve flakes out in front of the jury. (Steve is in full flake mode at the moment, so it's very possible.) But Vanessa has the best odds to win the $500,000, which -- as a multi-millionaire poker player -- she must like to hear. At this point, Johnny Mac is most likely to just walk away with $25,000 as America's Favorite Houseguest.

Who do you think should and/or will win BB17?

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Will Feature a 'Vicious,' 'Thuggish' Fight

Posted:

Winter is coming and, after that, "Game of Thrones" Season 6 will be showing up in the spring. No one battles like GoT and it sounds like at least one doozy of a fight is headed our way in 2016.

Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) recently talked to The Sunday Times and dropped a little hint about a Season 6 scene she had been shooting in Northern Ireland. Here's a portion of the story, via Gwendoline-Christie.com:

I've been fighting for three whole days, three entire days without ceasing or desisting. Really vicious, vicious, up-close, thuggish fighting." Who with? "I can't tell you. I could, but I'd have to maim you." Who won? "Again, it would be the last thing you ever knew."

Nice. Three days of shooting a vicious, up-close fight. Brienne was just seen killing (we think) Stannis Baratheon. Who is she fighting this time? Well, we don't know, but some hints were recently revealed via Watchers on the Wall.

*MAJOR FILMING SPOILERS AHEAD. RUN AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS!*

Still here? Watchers on the Wall has been sharing daily spoiler updates from set, including one on September 10 about a massive battle being filmed in Northern Ireland. They thought it was for Episode 9, traditionally an action-heavy episode. In this case, the battle apparently includes Northern armies, featuring the Umbers, the Boltons, wildlings and -- dun dun dun -- Jon Snow! Yes, Kit Harington -- who recently dropped hints that he was returning -- was seen on location, along with Iwan Rheon, who plays Ramsay Snow Bolton.

Now add Gwendoline talking about Brienne being in a fight scene. All together, it has fans wondering if Brienne is part of this massive battle in the north. Maybe Brienne and Jon Snow fight Ramsay together. Who will have the honor of Ned Stark-ing Roose Bolton's son? If Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy aren't there to do it ... our vote goes to "Fat Walda" Frey Bolton. But Jon will do too. He can send Sansa's regards.

13 Perfectly Timeless Rory Gilmore Quotes

Posted:

We learned a lot of things from the many characters of "Gilmore Girls," but we've learned the most from Stars Hollow's resident brainiac Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel). We gained so much wisdom from good old Rory, like "never take books for granted" and "a day without coffee is like a day without living." Even as we get older, she still knows exactly what to say.

Here are Rory's 13 most important quotes that still speak to you to this day.

The 'Furious 7' Honest Trailer Spares No One (Except Paul Walker)

Posted:

"Furious 7" is a popular recent blockbuster, but that doesn't mean it's immune to a brutal Honest Trailers takedown. Screen Junkies did the franchise proud with its latest 5-minute video, mocking the movies' dumb titles, dumb numerical order, dumb plots, and "mumble-growl" of Vin Diesel, who plays a character "so Italian, he wore a tank top to his own wedding." Not mocked? The late Paul Walker. Smart move.

But here's a sample of what they did go after:

"You've seen it with the The's, you've seen it without the The's, with just the 'Fast,' and with 2's where the The's should be. Now prepare for the latest mix of f-words and numbers in 'Furious 7.'" What began as "Point Break with cars" has been rebooted, spun off, and stretched out with multiple promises of "one last ride" -- including the one that's still to come in "Furious 8."

And yet, in a twist on its usual MO, Screen Junkies took a brief break from its "Car Wars: Episode VII" snark to offer a classy kudos to the film on how they honored Paul Walker. They led into it with a head-shake that the movie was so "dumb"...

"... [it] had you really worried about how they'd handle the death of Paul Walker, yet, against all odds, made a tasteful, heartfelt and emotionally powerful goodbye. Wow. I honestly never expected a Fast and Furious movie to make me cry. That was really well done."

Awww. In the end credits, when they list all the cast members, they make punny jokes about everyone, except Paul Walker. There's clearly enough material to mock without needing to drag him into it. Check it out:

16 Leslie Knope Quotes You Should Be Using in Everyday Conversation

Posted:

Ann isn't the only "beautiful tropical fish" on "Parks and Rec." That would be Leslie Knope, our favorite over-committed government employee and waffle enthusiast.

When she isn't making the world a better place for breakfast foods and really organized binders, she is giving us all the laughs (and at times, the feels) with her very unique, and very quotable, worldview. From friendship to heated Model UN negotiations, Leslie has a Knope-ism for just about everything.

In honor of Amy Poehler's birthday, here are 16 very apt Leslie Knope quotes you should be using in everyday conversation. So start now, you "beautiful, rule-breaking moths."

'Beauty and the Beast' Star Teases Movie's 'Beautiful,' 'Unique' New Songs

Posted:

Why is March 17, 2017 so far away? That's how long we have to wait for Bill Condon's live-action "Beauty and the Beast," starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, and we're even more excited and impatient after hearing new teases from Luke Evans. No one hypes like Gaston, and he did his movie proud in a video interview with Collider. It's clear he adores Josh Gad -- his bromance buddy who plays LeFou to his own Gaston -- and he said they both sang live on set, in addition to being pre-recorded along with the rest of the cast.

Speaking of music, Luke also talked about the movie's two new songs from Alan Menken and Tim Rice, which will join the original Disney songs. Apparently fans should prepare for some instant classics -- to be sung over and over again for years.

Here's how Luke put it:

I'm lucky enough to be one of the first people in the world to hear those two songs, which will become songs that children will sing, adults will sing, people in musicals will end up singing them at some point, they'll become audition piece, they will become part of this amazing legacy of a film we already have, a story that is so ingrained in our - in my childhood memory. And these two songs, they're beautiful, they complement everything so well, but they are incredibly unique and different. And the thought and love that has gone into those two songs honor the work of the original so well. It will be a nice thing, especially for the fans, to hear these two new songs on top of the beautiful stuff we already have. It's going to be great."

Watch the full interview for a lot more from Luke. He has us needing this movie and soundtrack right now!

Paul Bettany Has Best Comeback to Jason Statham's 'Avengers' Insults

Posted:

LA Premiere Of Avengers: Age Of Ultron - Red CarpetNever mind Captain America's "Civil War," there's now a British civil war between Jason Statham and Paul Bettany. Jason fired the first shots when dissing "The Avengers" movies, and Paul just returned fire -- brilliantly -- last night on "Conan."

Conan O'Brien mentioned that Jason was talking smack about the Avengers, and quoted the star's insults: "I could take my grandma and put her in a cape and they'll put her in a green screen and they'll have stunt doubles come in and do the action. Anybody can do it." Paul -- the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. and The Vision in Marvel's "Avengers" and upcoming "Civil War" -- said he heard about this. He didn't understand why anyone would talk smack like that, but he complimented Jason, saying he's brilliant at what he does and he couldn't do it himself.

Here's the best part, though.

Paul said he does try to do as many of his own stunts as he can, but there are times when it's too dangerous and the producers say they need a double. On that note, Paul said of Jason, "potentially he should maybe think about investing in an acting double."

NY Premiere Of
BURN, BABY, BURN! Conan and the audience cheered. Paul continued:

Just saying. I would never talk sh-t about somebody else's work, but you know, I'm just saying, I read the contract, they employed me as an actor. There's obviously stunt men in the world ... they're very good at what they do, so let them do it. But if there's a really, really tricky scene with some very tricky dialogue one might consider bringing in an acting double for Jason Statham."

Daaaaaaaamn. Paul said, if he ever runs into Jason after this, he'll bring a stunt double to help defend him. Andy Richter brought up a good point about Jason's original quote: "He may have just been trying to drum up work for his grandma." Truth. Maybe she just wanted to be cast in the next "Avengers" movie.

Watch the full talk:

Here's hoping they keep this feud going until "Civil War" opens on May 6, 2016.

The 16 Best True-Crime Movies, Ranked

Posted:

Sure, they may be a bunch of lowlifes, thieves, and murderers, but we owe the criminals who inspired our favorite true-crime movies a twisted debt of gratitude. After all, it was the true-crime genre that kicked off a revolution in American filmmaking half a century ago that continues to this day.

And now the genre is giving us Johnny Depp, after several years of silly and bizarre performances, in a real acting workout as the terrifying Whitey Bulger, the real-life Boston mob boss he plays in the new "Black Mass" (opening September 18). In honor of that thriller's release, here are 16 of the best feature films that have turned real-life crimes into grand, exhilarating dramas.

Best of Late Night TV: Ariana Grande's Musical Impressions, Jake Gyllenhaal's Cake Revenge on Amy Schumer

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Ariana Grande isn't always that great at being Ariana Grande (DonutGate) but she's pretty much perfect at being Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Celine Dion. Watch her mimic her peers in "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon's" classic Wheel of Musical Impressions game: Robert De Niro, also on "The Tonight Show," confirmed he has a project coming up with Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and *maybe* Harvey Keitel. The working title is "The Irishman." De Niro also did a Jimmy Fallon impression to match Jimmy's impressions of him. "The Tonight Show" also did a great GOP debate spoof, "The Debating Game" a version of "The Dating Game" with three candidates (with Fallon as Trump, obviously) trying to win over an undecided voter: Jake Gyllenhaal was on "Late Show With Stephen Colbert" and responded to Amy Schumer's cake theft. Amy, who was on Stephen's show last Friday, lived in Jake's house for a while. (Jake said everyone in Hollywood knows each other and just lives in the same house.) While in Jake's house, Amy found a frozen cake reading "Happy Birthday," so she ate it, and taped herself eating it. So Stephen enabled Jake's revenge, breaking out a similar-looking wrapped cake so Jake could eat it on air. "Hey, princess, what's going on?" Jake said, looking into the camera. Stephen also took a bite, and Jake instructed him to "bite where I bit." "The Late Show" also mixed the 2016 presidential race with "The Hunger Games" to create "The Hungry For Power Games": Josh Brolin and Seth Meyers had a "Back in My Day" chat, getting all grandpa (GILFs?) about how things were simple and better way back when ... before Starbucks started serving alcohol: John Stamos talked to Jimmy Fallon about being a GILF on his new show "Grandfathered" and -- since Stamos is a sitcom king -- they made their own sitcom openings. Love the fake set and wigs: Paul Bettany was on "Conan" and continued the "Avengers" team's beef against Jason Statham. Jason had dissed the "Avengers" for all the stunt doubles they use and Paul suggested Jason get an acting double. Over on "The Late Late Show," Pauley Perrette and Alice Cooper covered James Corden in some of Alice's makeup to give him the Alice Cooper rock star treatment:
