Posted: 14 Sep 2015 11:00 PM PDT

Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:   Kill Count of the Day: Superman movies used to be pretty low on death, especially as caused by the hero himself. Until Man of Steel, of course. Watch the numbers rise fast as Mr. Sunday Movies counts up the Superman movie kill count:   Fan Theory of the Day: We all know that Neo is "the one" in The Matrix movies. What this video supposes is, maybe he isn't? Guess who is. Or just watch.   Fan Art of the Day: We're less than three years away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1, so here's a fan-made poster for the set (via Geek Tyrant):   Supercut of the Day: When you mash together all the shootouts in...

The Top 5 Movies That Influenced The Wild Sci-Fi-Horror Movie 'The Hive'

Posted: 14 Sep 2015 09:00 PM PDT

If you like sci-fi horror movies, you're going to want to see The Hive. If you like movies that start in the middle of a mystery, you're going to want to see The Hive. If you like inventive, resourceful, movies with a fiercely independent spirit behind them, you're going to want to see The Hive. So what is The Hive? It's a highly energetic movie about a camp counselor who wakes up after some kind of outbreak has taken place. He has no immediate memory of what's happened, but the room he is in is plastered with clues, and as he starts to piece together recent events, the past and present collide and the true, horrible nature of what's going on is revealed.  The Hive is a ton of fun and it's playing tonight, September 14, 2015, in movie theaters...

Toronto Buzz: 'Spotlight,' 'Room,' 'Beasts of No Nation,' 'The Danish Girl' and More

Posted: 14 Sep 2015 07:30 PM PDT

The 2015 Toronto International Film Festival is in full swing, with many of this fall's most anticipated movies rolling out over the course of several days here in one of Canada's friendliest (and cleanest) cities.  This year I'm here seeing as many movies as I possibly can, and in between them all I'm recording 15-second instant reviews for you to devour. Plenty more can be said about each and every one of these films, but if you want a quick bite-sized nugget to help give you a sense of what to expect, check this out.   Spotlight Watch the 15-second review:   Here's my 15-second review of SPOTLIGHT, easily among my top 3 favorites of the fest #tiff15 #fandango pic.twitter.com/ORzRdzcU7U — ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) September...

'The Program' Star Ben Foster Took Drugs to Better Portray Lance Armstrong

Posted: 14 Sep 2015 06:00 PM PDT

I've already seen jokes about how Ben Foster should be disqualified from Oscar consideration. The actor, who you may still know best for playing the winged mutant Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand, has admitted that he used performance-enhancing drugs to play notorious doper Lance Armstrong in the new biopic The Program.  Foster may still indeed find recognition from the Academy next year for the leading role. The Telegraph says he's "eerily brilliant" in the movie, which is directed by The Queen helmer Stephen Frears. Overall, though, the reviews from The Program's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival have been mixed. That's a shame given how much the actor put into his effort to "infect" himself...

Emily Blunt Hasn't Had Any Talks About 'Captain Marvel' But Knows Why Everyone Assumes She Has

Posted: 14 Sep 2015 04:30 PM PDT

Last Year Marvel Studios announced their first ever female-led superhero movie, Captain Marvel, would hit theaters on July 6, 2018. As soon as that news hit, people began fancasting who could play the tough, powerful Carol Danvers who gains her powers through an alien encounter. Naturally the number one name on a lot of people's minds was Emily Blunt, who had just blown everyone away in Edge of Tomorrow as a tough, powerful woman who gains (but loses) powers through an alien encounter. Fast forward nearly a year and Emily Blunt, while at TIFF to promote her leading role in Sicario, has started talking about playing Captain Marvel. Unfortunately it's only to say "I have not heard anything about Captain Marvel," and that she unfortunately understands why everyone...

Watch a Gorgeous Teaser Video for Disney's New 'The Jungle Book'

Posted: 14 Sep 2015 03:00 PM PDT

Heading to theaters next year, Disney's new version of The Jungle Book looks set to establish a new standard for jungle-set adventures. The film promises a seamless mixture of live-action and CGI-animated characters, and if the first video is any indication, we can look forward to a delightful trip into the wonderful world of Rudyard Kipling. Kipling was inspired to write the Jungle Book fables by his years of living of India, first as a child and later as a young man. They have inspired a number of screen adaptations, with the two best-known versions coming in 1942 (a live-action film) and 1967 (Disney's animated movie). Disney has been on a roll lately with live-action adaptations of their classic animated movies, which began with 2010's Alice in Wonderland...

Posted: 14 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT

Jeepers Creepers 3: A hungry flesh-eating creature will take flight again in Jeepers Creepers 3, a long-awaited sequel to a horror series that began in 2001. Victor Salva wrote and directed the first two installments, which found good-looking young people as vulnerable victims of the winged creature known as The Creeper. Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now) will serve as a producer on the project -- his company produced the original two films -- and production is expected to get underway early in 2016, with Salva returning as writer/director. [Variety]   Our Souls At Night: Robert Redford and Jane Fonda want to star together in Our Souls At Night, a screen adaptation of a novel by Kent Haruf.
