Posted: 23 Sep 2015 09:30 PM PDT

One of many movies based on a true story with recognizable characters out this fall, Truth has just come out with a new trailer following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Here's what you need to know about the Oscar contender. It's about the downfall of a very famous man 11 years ago, popular news anchor Dan Rather became disgraced for his part in a controversial 60 Minutes report on then-President George W. Bush's service record. Referred to by many as "Rathergate" or simply "Memogate," the scandal involved documents later put into question claming Bush received preferential treatment during his time with the U.S. Air National Guard. Robert Redford plays Dan Rather It's hard to imagine any other...

How One Film Festival Is Spreading Autism Awareness Through the Power of Movies

Posted: 23 Sep 2015 08:30 PM PDT

Right now we're in the thick of festival season. Between Venice, Telluride, Toronto, New York (and then eventually AFI), many of this season's biggest awards contenders will premiere and launch a conversation that'll last till the Oscars airs on February 28, 2016. What you might not be as familiar with are the countless regional film festivals that crop up amidst the bigger, spotlight-grabbing fests. As someone who attends a lot of film festivals, I'm always on the hunt for fests that do something different -- that say something others aren't saying; that promote the kind of movies that don't get Oscar attention, but are still worth championing for a number of different reasons. All of that is a long-winded way of tossing the Golden Door International...

Here's a Cool Way to Tour The Crashed Ship From 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Posted: 23 Sep 2015 07:00 PM PDT

Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out in three months and yet we've still barely seen anything from the actual movie. Of course, Disney can get away with this because people talk about Star Wars all day every day, so they barely need to do anything to keep interest high. But, the sheer volume of Star Wars tie-ins out there also means you may be starting to feel a bit of Star Wars overload. Things are probably going to get worse before they get better, but so long as they're as cool as what brings us here today, we'll be interested. Today Facebook unveiled a new 360-degree video feature and so naturally Star Wars was one of the first to take advantage of the feature with an interactive tour of the desert of Jakku, as seen in the second trailer for the...

Posted: 23 Sep 2015 04:00 PM PDT

Sicario is brutal and bloody and wicked in the way it explores the dangerous world of drug cartels (both inside and outside the United States), but the best thing about the movie is that it quite literally hooks you in from the first minute on with a relentless pace that's thrilling to watch unfold. As the film prepares to expand nationwide on October 2, we've got a little exclusive featurette for you to devour below. Sicario stars Emily Blunt as a rising star at the FBI who's assigned to a shadowy team (headed by Josh Brolin) tasked with locating the anonymous head of a ruthless drug cartel. Mondo Poster Premiere: Kevin Tong's Gorgeous 'Mulholland Drive'

Posted: 23 Sep 2015 03:00 PM PDT

David Lynch's Mulholland Drive is the kind of puzzle-box movie whose construction and mystery is so dense that it's either isolating or completely captivating. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of middle ground when it comes to audience reaction to it. There are people who aren't into it, and then those who are into it are really, really into it.  No matter where your thoughts on the actual movie fall, though, there simply can be no disagreement when it comes to artist Kevin Tong's new Mulholland Drive poster for Mondo. This is just an absolute stunner; the perfect marriage of art and movie that literally wraps the themes together in a lovely, infinite ribbon. Here's the regular version (click images to enlarge).   And here is the...

The Crazy Gift Peruvian Villagers Offered 'The Green Inferno' Production Designer

Posted: 23 Sep 2015 01:30 PM PDT

It's starting to feel like Halloween in department stores everywhere, and it's gonna start feeling that way at the movie theater, too. This week welcomes the beginning of a flood of scary movies heading our way over the next month -- with the family film Hotel Transylvania 2 for the kiddies and Eli Roth's love letter to Cannibal Holocaust, The Green Inferno, there to satisfy your thirst for the freaky (and bloody, and nasty, and crazy). The Green Inferno -- which follows a group of student activists who travel into the Amazon rain forest and soon learn they're not alone -- was filmed in areas so remote that the real-life Peruvian villagers there had never seen a movie or knew what one was. So in order to convince the village to allow the team to shoot there...
