Watch the Trailer for An Absurd Chinese 'Mad Max' Knock-off, 'Virgin Road'

Posted: 28 Nov 2016 09:30 PM PST

International copyright and trademark laws are a funny thing. There's not much stopping someone from another country taking an original idea and replicating it as cheaply and as quickly as possible. This happens most often in the world of consumer products, where it's relatively easy for someone to dupe, say, a brand name purse. But in this day and age it's easy to ripoff pretty much anything, from a pair of shoes to an iPad and all the way up to a blockbuster movie that originally cost $150 million to make. Judging by the first trailer, we're going to guess Mad Sheila: Virgin Road cost a little less to make than Mad Max: Fury Road, but there's no mistaking its, uh, inspiration. It's a post-apocalyptic action movie about a woman who fights off a fleet of...

The Top 5 Disney Easter Eggs Hidden in 'Moana'

Posted: 28 Nov 2016 08:00 PM PST

If you know Disney movies, you knew to look for Easter eggs in their latest animated feature, Moana. The movie actually plays like a best-of compilation of all the classics, from the shapeshifting magic reminding us of The Sword in the Stone to the big man and young girl pairing like that of Wreck-it Ralph to the characters falling down very, very deep hole a la Alice in Wonderland. And the premise, involving a girl wanting to leave land to find a whole new world at sea, is clearly a reverse of the plot of The Little Mermaid, in which a girl wants to leave the sea to be a part of the world on land.  There are plenty of other similar elements to be found throughout the movie (one great joke references all Disney Princess titles at...

Ivan Reitman Says They Will Make More 'Ghostbusters' Movies

Posted: 28 Nov 2016 06:30 PM PST

The 2016 female-driven reboot of Ghostbusters was a success in that it got people talking about Ghostbusters again. And they talked a lot about Ghostbusters -- from those against the new version to those in favor of it, a ton of noise was made. When all was said and done, the film racked up north of $200 million worldwide, which ain't bad. According to producer Ivan Reitman, that will be enough to secure movie Ghostbusters movies, but whether they stick with the same cast and storyline is a whole different conversation. While speaking on the Mr. Wavvy podcast (via Slashfilm), Reitman confirmed there will be "many" more Ghostbusters movies, saying they're "in development" right now.  Previously there were rumors of an extended universe for...

Movie News: Kevin Smith Wants to Remake Disney's 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks'; Watch New 'Fences' Trailer

Posted: 28 Nov 2016 03:00 PM PST

Bedknobs and Broomsticks: Kevin Smith says he wants to remake Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks (above right). Set in London during World War II, the 1971 musical fantasy mixed live action and animation, much like Mary Poppins and Pete's Dragon. With a remake of Pete's Dragon already out and a Mary Poppins sequel on its way, Smith says the time is right for a new version of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which followed three orphan children and a friendly witch (Angela Lansbury). [CinemaBlend]   Soldado: Back in April, we heard that Soldado, a sequel to Sicario, was on its way, again based on an original screenplay by Taylor Sheridan. Since then, we learned that director Denis Villeneuve and star Emily Blunt would not be returning. Explaining Blunt's absence...

Watch the Latest 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Videos: Two Trailers and a TV Spot

Posted: 28 Nov 2016 12:00 PM PST

We're only days away from the theatrical release of the spin-off adventure Rogue One: A Star Wars Story -- advance tickets are now on sale at Fandango -- and two new trailers tease the humor and humanity of the movie. While dedicated fans are already familiar with the premise, it's worth repeating for the benefit of those who are still catching their breath after the onset of the holiday season this past weekend. Rather than continuing the story told in last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens -- that will come in the not yet titled eighth episode, due in theaters on December 15, 2017 -- the new movie rewinds to a time shortly before the beginning of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. A group of rebels team up on a mission to steal the plans for the Death...
