Emilia Clarke Joins Han Solo Movie as Female Lead

Posted:

2016 Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsMother of Dragons, meet Han, Chewie, and Lando! Emilia Clarke joined the "Game of Thrones" world as Daenerys Targaryen, and the "Terminator" world as Sarah Connor, and now she's part of the "Star Wars" galaxy, joining the Han Solo standalone movie as _______.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We'll find out when we find out.

StarWars.com announced the news, simply saying they were excited to announce that Clarke would join the upcoming untitled Han Solo movie. "Clarke's role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures."

So now we have three official cast members: Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Clarke as this mystery character. Chewbacca is also returning, and this movie is said to be something of an origin story for Han and Chewie, but no one has 100 percent said Peter Mayhew is returning to play him.

According to Variety, this solo movie "has had some of the more grueling testing sessions for all three leads going back to the beginning of the year." They said "Selma" and "Creed" star Tessa Thompson, "Power Rangers" actress Naomi Scott, and Zoe Kravitz tested for Clarke's role in October. "Another group, which included Clarke, Kiersey Clemons, and Jessica Henwick, tested in London with Clarke ultimately landing the role."

What does this mean for "Game of Thrones"? Clarke is currently shooting GoT Season 7, but Season 8 is the final season, so it's possible she will bounce between filming for both GoT Season 8 and Han Solo. The untitled standalone movie is currently scheduled for a May 2018 release.

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13: Bad News for Jo & DeLuca Fans

Posted:

Are there many "Grey's Anatomy" viewers out there shipping Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti)? Hope not, 'cause it doesn't look good for them. However, that doesn't necessarily mean things are looking good for Jo and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). Things just aren't looking good in general after that Season 13 winter finale cliffhanger.

Apparently there's at least one big Jo/DeLuca fan out there, because she asked Entertainment Weekly about them for the site's Spoiler Room roundup:

Does Jo not realize that Andrew has feelings for her on Grey's Anatomy? I kind of 'ship it, to be honest. — Helene

"I really don't think she does!" Camilla Luddington says. "I think she feels in the midst of a tornado, there is so much spinning around her head that she's not picking up on any feelings. I think she's just happy to have a friend. Even if she had a question about it, I think she'd set it aside. That would complicate things and right now she's craving simplicity." In short: Friendzoned!

So DeLuca is in the Friendzone...... No cookie love for you. He helped drunk Jo home, and kept her secrets, but everything after that has apparently been one-sided.

The winter finale ended on quite a cliffhanger, with Alex struggling to decide what to do, mostly based on his feelings for Jo. She finally revealed the truth to him -- that she's married to an abuser, and she changed her name so her husband couldn't find her. But if Alex's assault of DeLuca goes to trial, and Jo has to testify, her truth will come out and her husband could find her.

So that left Alex feeling like he should take the plea deal on the table and go to jail for two years, rather than force Jo to go public and maybe have to leave town to keep hiding from her ex. However, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) was on the phone pushing hard for Alex to go to trial and not take a plea deal, arguing that he still has a great chance of going free and not ruining his career forever.

What will Alex do? We don't know yet, but we do know that we shouldn't expect Jo to start gravitating toward DeLuca anytime soon, since he's not even on her radar.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 returns January 19, 2017.

'The Walking Dead' Season 7 Filming Ends, Second Half Vibe Is 'Very Different'

Posted:

Considering how much of a Debbie Downer the first half of "The Walking Dead" Season 7 has been, it's welcome news to hear the second half will be "very different."

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple confirmed to ComicBook.com that Season 7's last day of production was Friday, November 18. That means they are finishing up filming for Episode 16, even though fans are just preparing to watch Episode 5 this Sunday, November 20. Episode 8, which airs December 11, is the midseason finale -- the end of "7A" -- then the show will be on winter break until it returns to launch eight more episodes -- 7B -- in February 2017.

Gimple wouldn't tease what's ahead, but he did tell Comicbook, "7B's vibe is very different from 7A's vibe. The ending of 7B is very different than the beginning of 7A." Will either finale be positive? We have to wait and see.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FROM FILMING. STOP READING FOR NO SPOILERS.SPOILERS AHEAD

The Spoiling Dead Fans has been posting set photos, plus details on who was seen filming in this last week. Here are two recent reports:

"Filming yesterday took place at Alexandria again. Reported sightings: Rick, Michonne, Daryl, Maggie, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Mr. Scott Gimple was also spotted lurking around set. There were reports of cheering and chanting inside the walls. Perhaps a celebration or some kind of rally? Did our heroes kick some Savior ass? A male character was also heard talking after the chanting. It might have been Ezekiel. Filming is still happening in Alexandria today. It's been a lot more quiet. Only sighting so far is Daryl. Here's some more pictures of Carl, Enid, and Dianne at Baggarly Way (Thanks Ashley G!!) and also a clear shot of Negan. These are all from Tuesday 11/15."

"Filming at Alexandria today was a bit quiet. There were sightings of Rick, Michonne, Daryl, Tara, Carol, Dwight, Sasha, and the Garbage Pail Kids. Daryl was supposedly spotted with a crossbow."

"Garbage Pail Kids" is their term for a new junkyard group fans will meet later in the season.

We won't see any of that until spring 2017, but at least it gives you an idea of how many characters will still be around for the big finale. Head here for more updates.

"The Walking Dead" Season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.

Two-Time 'Survivor' Star Michael Skupin Guilty on Child Porn Charges

Posted:

After being medically evacuated due to severe burns received after passing out into a fire from smoke inhalation, Michael Skupin returns to SURVIVOR: PHILIPPINES to finish what he started and for one more chance at the million dollar prize. The twenty-fifth installment of the Emmy Award-winning reality series premieres with a special 90-minute edition, Wednesday, September 19 (8:00 - 9:30 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. #Survivor. Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS© 2012 CBS Broadcasting Inc.It was a shock to "Survivor" fans when Michael Skupin was arrested on child pornography charges, and now reports confirm that he was found guilty on four of six counts.

Skupin was first a contestant on "Survivor: The Australian Outback" Season 2, back in 2001, when the then 38-year-old was dramatically evacuated after falling into a fire. He returned for "Survivor: Philippines" in 2012 and made it to the finals, where he tied with "The Facts of Life" star Lisa Whelchel as runner-up.

Skupin was arrested in February and pleaded not guilty to 11 charges of child pornography and racketeering. A spokesperson for the Michigan Oakland County Clerk told People that, after a one-day trial, Skupin was found guilty Friday of four of six counts of child pornography and he'll be tried separately for the racketeering charges next week. After that, he'll be sentenced.

These charges came about by way of a completely different investigation, after a woman alleged that she was part of a gifting scheme involving Skupin. While investigating Skupin's computer, law enforcement allegedly discovered child porn. "The children in these videos and images were exploited, and each time the images were shared and viewed continued their suffering," Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said in a statement, via People. "My hope is that today's conviction will bring some closure to the families and the children that are victims in this case."

Skupin, father of seven, has maintained his innocence.

'Game of Thrones' Season 7: Two Stark Spoilers Bring Joy, Conflict, Relief

Posted:

Warning: Spoilers ahead from "Game of Thrones" Season 7.

Even good news come with a catch on "Game of Thrones." Season 7 is now filming, and previous set reports had hinted to a Stark family reunion. Watchers on the Wall confirmed a reunion between three Stark siblings -- Sansa, Arya, and Bran -- but also shared some trouble in that paradise, specifically between sisters Arya and Sansa. However, WotW also put to rest a different rumor/theory/spoiler about Sansa:

"If any in our readership believed a certain insistent rumor, the following may be a relief to hear: Sansa will NOT be (or get) pregnant in season seven."

So no worries about Sansa carrying Ramsay's baby or anything. GoT is creepy AF sometimes, but at least they're not going to go there.Back to Sansa and Arya. Here's what WotW wrote about the Stark family reunion and sister clash:

"Our sources reveal the three Stark siblings will reunite —That is: Sansa, Arya and Bran. Just as I'm sure we're all itching to witness, it will all be quite happy and emotional... For a while. There will be conflict between Sansa and Arya. Their life experiences have been poles apart since they last saw each other: Arya always had a more rigid moral code, and though the Faceless Men tried to stifle it, instead they strengthened it; Meanwhile, Sansa has learnt to be more pragmatic —The treacheries of the court and Littlefinger's realpolitik lessons left their mark on her. Having developed very different perspectives, Sansa and Arya will clash over the matter of ruling. Sharing their experiences would help them sympathize and understand each other... Yet they won't, at least not initially. Upon noticing this sisterly split, Littlefinger will jump at the chance to take advantage."

Of course he will. Littlefinger lives for that sh*t.Sadly, it makes sense that Sansa and Arya would eventually clash, after the reunion buzz wore off, because they are very different, very strong-willed women who have always clashed. It would be more surprising to hear that they suddenly agreed on everything. (It would be so great for them to team up, though: The two badass Stark sisters, side by side, kicking arse and taking names.)

The last time they saw each other was in Season 1, and so much has happened to change both of them. The Season 6 finale saw Arya Stark return to Westeros, and her first stop was not "home" at Winterfell -- she immediately sought vengeance in a very creative fashion by feeding Walder Frey his own children. That's hardcore. And that's who Arya is now. Meanwhile, Sansa has been spending a lot of time with Littlefinger, learning his more subtle manipulative way of doing things (remember Dark Sansa?) and even though she claims not to trust him, she can't quite shake his influence.

Maybe Arya will just end up adding Littlefinger to her list?

There's no word on what Bran thinks, or how King Jon fits into all of this "ruling" talk. (We're really looking forward to Jon and Arya's reunion.)

There are so many spoilers out there right now it's overwhelming, and we won't know the truth until Season 7 airs next summer, but head to WotW if you want to read more and attempt to piece it all together.

'This Is Us' Star Chrissy Metz's Contract Includes Mandatory Weight Loss

Posted:

This Is UsLife will imitate art for "This Is Us" star Chrissy Metz.

On the new NBC drama, Metz's character, Kate, struggles with being overweight. She has joined a support group and keeps to a strict diet (though this week, she indulged in some junk food). Kate's weight loss journey will be "parallel to my life," Metz told TV Line. It's even written in her contract with the show.

"In our contract, it did state that that would be a part of it, to lose the weight in the trajectory of the character as she comes to find herself," she revealed.

Her weight loss, and Kate's, will be a gradual process and done in a healthy way. And the actress made clear that she isn't doing this because she's achieved fame.

"Whether or not I lose weight or stay the same, it's purely a choice of mine for health. Not because I think that plus size, curvy, voluptuous, big bodies aren't attractive — because I think they're awesome and sexy," she added. "So I'll just have to make sure that's known, because I'm not selling out the big girls. I don't do that. That's not me."

Watch Nicole Kidman Tease Jimmy Fallon About Second Failed Date

Posted:

Jimmy Fallon Tonight ShowThe last time Nicole Kidman stopped by "The Tonight Show," she embarrassed host Jimmy Fallon by recounting a time years ago when he blew a chance to date her. Last night, she revealed that he blew a second chance to date her. Oh, Jimmy ...

"We were at David Fincher's house. I think it was David's house, and it was when Brad [Pitt] and Jen [Aniston] were still together, so it was a long time ago," Kidman explained, as Fallon sputtered in shock. "And you could have asked for my number then because it was round two -- well, second chance. And you still didn't ask for it!"Fallon struggled to even remember the dinner party, so Kidman continued to enlighten him. "We were kind of lurking in the kitchen. Everyone went out, and I'm waiting and waiting and waiting," she said. "And you're at the buffet, and this is so true and you know it. And you still didn't ask for my number, so you were so not interested."

As the audience howled with laughter, the host appeared amazed at this new intelligence. "[The audience] is shocked for a different reason. They're like, 'He wouldn't have a chance in hell with Nicole Kidman,'" the beet-faced Fallon replied. "Why would I even ask you?"

Of course, now, years later, both Fallon and Kidman have spouses and kids. Kidman's husband, country singer Keith Urban, joined her on stage and even invited Fallon to their Nashville home. "Actually I feel quite safe because you have no problem ignoring my wife in the kitchen apparently," Urban joked.

'Stranger Things' Season 2 Adds Brett Gelman as Conspiracy Theorist

Posted:

Premiere Of Mister Lister Film's "Consumed" - Red CarpetThe truth is out there in Hawkins, Indiana!

"Stranger Things" is adding yet another new cast member for season 2: Actor/comedian Brett Gelman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gelman will play Murray Bauman, "a disgraced journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist who is investigating a cold case in Hawkins." Perhaps that cold case has ties to Hawkins Laboratory and the Energy Department.

Gelman recently severed ties with longtime network partner Adult Swim over misogynistic policies and support of a show tied to the alt-right.

Gelman is just the latest new face to join the Netflix '80s-era supernatural drama. Sean Astin and Paul Reiser are hopping on board season 2, as are Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery as siblings new to town.
Director Shawn Levy recently said, "There are several new characters who I think several of them are going to be new fan-favorites because they're great, great new characters."

Don't worry, Barb, you won't be forgotten.

'Before I Fall' Trailer Forces Zoey Deutch to Relive the Same Day Over and Over

Posted:

Before I Fall"Regardless of what I do or say, the day starts and ends the same," Zoey Deutch sighs in the trailer for "Before I Fall," a darker, teen version of "Groundhog's Day."

Deutch's Samantha Kingston is stuck in a time loop, but unlike "Groundhog's Day," this is no joke. She's a "perfect" teen who's about to finish high school, and on this day, she and her friends attend a party. Afterward, driving home, they all get into an accident and die. Like Bill Murray does in "Groundhog's Day," or Tom Cruise in "Edge of Tomorrow," Samantha has to repeat the day over and over until she is able to change the outcome. In the course of doing that, she discovers that her life may not be so perfect after all.The movie is based on the popular young adult novel by Lauren Oliver, and the adaptation looks like it should appeal to both fans of the book and moviegoers who want to see a solid teen movie with a twist.

"Before I Fall" opens in theaters March 3.

Lisa Lynn Masters, 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' Actress, Dead at 52

Posted:

Premiere of Paramount's "The Stepford Wives" - Arrivals
Lisa Lynn Masters, an actress who appeared on TV shows including "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Nashville," and "Gossip Girl," was found dead by apparent suicide in Lima, Peru earlier this week. She was 52.

The news site Peru21 reported that Masters was found in her hotel room closet after hanging herself with a skirt. Anti-depressant medication was found in her room.

Masters' manager, Christopher Silveri, confirmed her death in a statement. "As to her husband and family's wishes, we hope that the industry can mourn her death without details. In these darkening days, we hope those who have had the pleasure of knowing her will see how brightly she shined and will find that light within themselves and continue to share it with others -- just as she would have."

The actress's credits included a role as Dr. Goodman in season 1 of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt." She also appeared in "Nashville," "Gossip Girl," "Ugly Betty," "Law & Order: SVU," and the movies "It's Complicated" and "Stepford Wives."

She leaves behind husband William Brooks. Masters' friends set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for expenses.

"Lisa's genuine warmth, generosity and tenacious strength will be deeply missed," friend Ani Mason wrote. "Lisa's beloved husband William is shocked and grieving her sudden loss. In the midst of his mourning, William faces daunting financial challenges, including the substantial funeral and transport expenses for Lisa in and between Peru and the United States. Our hearts go out to our dear friend William. We will miss Lisa very, very much."

'Gilmore Girls' Stars Beg Fans Not to Spoil the Last Four Words in New PSA

Posted:

You don't want to be a buttfaced miscreant, do you? Then please, for the love of all that is good, do not spoil the last four words of the upcoming "Gilmore Girls" revival, "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life."

Stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel -- who play Lorelai and Rory Gilmore -- are featured a new PSA about those famed words, pleading with fans not to ruin the surprise for those who can't watch the four-episode revival series right away.

"You may want to shout them from the rooftop as the sun rises, calling an end to your shameless binge-watching," Graham tells viewers. "But don't do it."

"Control yourself!" adds Bledel.

The pair liken revealing such a spoiler to people who tweet about another Netflix show, "House of Cards," the day it's released, or those who casually discuss the ending to "Breaking Bad" in public, assuming everyone has already seen it (Bledel has not -- she's been really busy! -- so zip those lips). The PSA then leads fans to a special web page, where they can "take the four words pledge," and publicly vow not to spill the beans about the long-kept secret ending to the series.

It's a brilliant bit of marketing that plays directly to longtime fans of the show who have had nearly a decade to agonize over what those words could be (words that "Gilmore" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has planned on using to end the series, before famously leaving the show before its seventh and -- at the time -- final season). There's been lots of speculation about what they could be -- and previous pleas from Sherman-Palladino to keep them under wraps -- and we'd hate to see someone spoil the surprise for others after so much build-up. Do the right thing, and sign the pledge.

"Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" hits Netflix on November 25.

A 'Hannah Montana' Marathon Is Coming to Disney Channel Next Month

Posted:

hannah montana, marathon, disney channel, disney, miley cyrusHit Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana" will return to the network for a special marathon next month.

The Miley Cyrus-fronted sitcom, about a girl named Miley Stewart who lives a double life as the titular teen superstar singer, will once again air on the Disney Channel during a marathon set to begin on December 3, and end on December 29. It's unclear how the marathon will be structured, but TVLine surmises that the show's 98 episodes will be aired in blocks of about four per night for the duration of the event.

Disney Channel announced the marathon on Twitter, and based on fan reaction so far, it looks like this event will be a popular one. That's par for the course with "Hannah," which dominated Disney's airwaves during its original run from 2006 to 2011. According to TVLine, "The series premiere set a viewership record for the network, and a 2007 episode with guest stars the Jonas Brothers scored 10.7 million total viewers." Not too shabby for a cable series.

No word yet from Cyrus about the marathon (the singer long ago shed her innocent Disney image, and has criticized the show in the past); we'll see if she has anything else to say about the series once it begins re-airing. So far, Disney Channel has not announced specific airtimes for the episodes.

'Fantastic Beasts' Scores Magical $8.75 Million at Thursday Box Office

Posted:

"Harry Potter" prequel "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is off to a magical start at the box office, conjuring $8.75 million in Thursday preview receipts.

That number puts the flick, a spinoff set decades before the events of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," on track to land at the higher end of estimates for its opening weekend tally, with some prognosticators now predicting that it will earn north of $80 million by the end of Sunday. Studio Warner Bros. is keeping its projections conservative for now, putting the flick on pace to pull in about $70 million.

As industry analysts previously noted, "Beasts" isn't a "Potter" flick, and that unknowable quality makes it hard to judge how the film will perform. It's unlikely to reach the soaring box office heights of the "Potter" franchise (for comparison, the last film in the series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" earned $43.5 million in Thursday previews in 2011, ahead of a $169 million opening weekend), but its association with the successful series -- not to mention its pedigree, with "Potter" author J.K. Rowling penning the screenplay -- certainly doesn't hurt audience curiosity, either.

Moviegoers should get used to finding "Fantastic Beasts" on the big screen, since the franchise has now expanded from a three-film series to a five-film series. Whether or not those plans will change, however, no doubt hinges on the first flick's success this weekend, and in the weeks to come.

Disney Had to Change 'Moana's' Title in Italy Thanks to a Porn Star

Posted:

When Disney's newest animated musical "Moana" hits theaters overseas next week, it will have a different name -- and the reasoning behind the switcheroo is about as un-Disney as it gets.

While it's common for movie studios to rename certain films for overseas audiences based on cultural differences, it was probably pretty hard for the Mouse House to anticipate why it would need to change "Moana" when it hit Italy: The film shares a name with a famous Italian porn star. Moana Pozzi was a superstar during her short life, rising up through the ranks of adult filmmaking to also become a television personality, model, actress, and even a politician. (Her Wikipedia entry is fascinating.)

Pozzi, who died in 1994 at age 33, is still a beloved pop culture figure in Italy. And as one unnamed marketing exec explained to Variety, "in any Italian focus group, 'Moana' is Moana Pozzi the porn star."

Despite the mostly positive connotations that the real-life Moana's name conjures in the country, Disney didn't want its heartwarming story of a young Polynesian girl to become synonymous with an adult film actress, and so the company quietly changed the film's Italian title to "Oceana." The studio hasn't made any explicit statement about the switch, though according to Variety, Disney's head of theatrical marketing in Italy acknowledged the coincidence last year, telling exhibitors that the company was "thinking about this issue."

"Oceana" is due in Italian theaters on November 22, one day before "Moana" hits U.S. cinemas.

Watch the 'Gilmore Girls' Stars Declare Themselves Team Jess, Dean, or Logan

Posted:

If you're a "Gilmore Girls" fan, you've no doubt already settled an age-old question: Are you Team Jess, Team Dean, or Team Logan? It turns out that the stars of the show also have some strong opinions on the subject of Rory's former boyfriends, and now, they're revealing which of those three guys they liked best.

In anticipation of the November 25 debut of revival series "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," the official "Gilmore Girls" Twitter account posted a video interview with various cast members, asking them to declare themselves a member of one of the aforementioned teams. For some, the answer was simple (actress Rose Abdoo, who plays Gypsy, said she was Team Dean because "he had the best car"), while others simply couldn't choose (Liz Torres and Sally Struthers, who play Miss Patty and Babette, respectively, both said they'd pick all three, since they "drooled" over all the guys across seven seasons).

That indecision makes sense, reasoned Logan actor Matt Czuchry.

"Each of those boyfriends came along at just the right time for her, to bring something out that she needed to experience in her life at the right time," Czuchry said. "So, each boyfriend was the right one at the right time."

One actor who's firmly on Team Jess is a surprising convert: None other than Dean himself, with actor Jared Padalecki citing Jess's bad boy cred and his penchant for book reading as part of his draw. And as for the actor behind Jess, Milo Ventimiglia said his onscreen alter ego was easy to root for because he turned out to be a decent guy. He also joked that fans probably disliked Dean because he was too tall, and said that the Jess vs. Logan decision came down to "a blonde/brunette thing, like light/dark."

"Maybe dark wins," Ventimiglia mused.

It's no secret where our loyalties lie (#TeamJess all the way), but what about Rory's? Actress Alexis Bledel stayed out of the debate, but we have a couple key clues that certainly point to Rory choosing Jess when the revival premieres. We only have one more week until we know for sure.
