New 'Kong: Skull Island' Trailer Is Full of Monsters

Posted: 17 Nov 2016 02:57 AM PST

There have been a lot of King Kong movies. Maybe not quite as many as his giant cohort Godzilla, but when a franchise has been rebooted four times, you'd think all of the creative juices would have been taped by now. And yet here we are with a new trailer for Kong: Skull Island, a fifth franchise reboot which not only looks wildly different from any King Kong movie before it, but it just looks flat out amazing. Seriously, if you thought you were done with the giant ape after Peter Jackson's 2005 reboot, you are really, really going to want to watch this trailer. If you're still not sold, we don't know what else to say. This looks like one of the most exciting movies of 2017. Kong: Skull Island stars Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, John C. Reilly, Samuel L...

Watch: 'Foodfellas' Is Like 'Goodfellas' for the Fast-Food Industry

Posted: 16 Nov 2016 09:30 PM PST

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas, which is presumably why filmmaker Reuben Guberek created the 13-minute short film Foodfellas -- a Goodfellas parody that tracks the rise and fall of fast-food wise guys Ron the Don and his apprentice, the King of Burgers. With high production values, plenty of nods to Scorsese's movie and a voiceover rich with lines like... "The money came pouring in like an extra large double diet soda," the short is amusing and inventive and chock-full of enough fast-food references to make you ponder grabbing a bacon cheeseburger for your next meal.  Check it out below, courtesy of Film School Shorts. Warning: This short film does not come with a side of...

Watch: 'A Kind of Murder' Trailer Mixes 'Gone Girl' and 'Mad Men'

Posted: 16 Nov 2016 08:00 PM PST

Ever since the succes off Gone Girl, first as a bestselling novel and then a hit movie, Hollywood has been looking for similar stories to cash-in on. Recently, we saw the adaptation of The Girl on the Train compared to David Fincher's take on Gillian Flynn's popular crime fiction. Now we've got a trailer for another movie that looks a lot like Gone Girl, only it's set many decades earlier.   A Kind of Murder is based on a novel that's also actually much older. Adapted from The Blunderer, a 1954 thriller by Patricia Highsmith (Carol), the movie stars Patrick Wilson as a man suspected of killing his wife, played by Jessica Biel. Maybe he did it, or maybe she really did kill herself because he was having an affair with another...

'Finding Dory' Director Andrew Stanton Explains What's Stopping a Pixar Cinematic Universe

Posted: 16 Nov 2016 06:30 PM PST

This part of the post is normally where we'd try to introduce you to the movie we're talking about, but Finding Dory doesn't need an intro. It's a sequel to one of the most beloved films of all time. It's a pop culture monster. You already know all about it, even if you haven't seen it. But you probably have seen it, because it's currently the highest grossing movie of the year at the United States box office.  On the statistical off chance that you did miss Finding Dory in theaters, however, it is out this week on Blu-ray, DVD and DigitalHD, so it's very, very easy to catch up. This home video release gave us a chance to chat with Finding Dory (and Nemo) director Andrew Stanton. We already shared a bit from the interview about why Stanton is...

A few months earlier, on January 20, Diesel may see franchise lightning strike another of his fan-driven properties, the more extreme sports-centric xXx, featuring fur coat-rockin’ skateboard wizard Xander Cage. “When we started this franchise back in 2001, we wanted to bring an...

Alden Ehrenreich Promises We'll See a Different Side of Han Solo in His 'Star Wars' Prequel

Posted: 16 Nov 2016 03:00 PM PST

Few actors have successfully slipped into the shoes of a beloved character to deliver a new, typically younger version of said character to much acclaim. Perhaps the greatest to ever do it was Robert De Niro, who masterfully played a younger version of up-and-coming mob boss Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II, two years after Marlon Brando brought us an older version of Corleone that would eventually go on to be one of the most recognizable movie characters in cinema history. Both men were so good in their respective roles that they each won Oscars for their performances. With the Star Wars character of Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich is next up to join the list of those who've attempted new takes on beloved characters, and when Fandango sat down with the actor to talk...

Posted: 16 Nov 2016 12:00 PM PST

Officially released in November 2011, Minecraft earned immediate plaudits for its clever, creative and addictive gameplay. More than 100 million people had played the game by the time Hollywood came calling. Warner Bros. acquired movie rights in February 2014 and made plans for a live-action version. By the end of that year, director Shawn Levy (Real Steel) and writers Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney had come and gone. In July 2015, we heard that Rob McElhenny (TV's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) had been hired to make his feature directorial debut on the project.     Now comes word that Steve Carell is in talks to appear in the movie. If things work out, according to Variety, Carell would "join the ensemble," suggesting that he...
