Watch This Incredibly Sweet New Short Film From The Disney Artist Who Made 'Feast'

Posted: 25 May 2016 10:30 PM PDT

Apparently if you give Disney animator Patrick Osborne six minutes to direct, he'll use them to pluck every heart string he can. He did that with Feast, the adorable short depicting a love story from the perspective of a puppy who eats everything. That premiered in front of Big Hero 6, a movie Osborne was also an animator on, and went on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. Now Osborne is back directing with Pearl, another six-minute short film that's as efficient and affecting as Feast. There's no puppy in this one, it's just a deceptively simple story about a father, his daughter, and the bond they share over the years. And the cool thing is you don't have to wait until the next big screen Disney movie to see it, either. It's online now as part...

Remember When... 'Pearl Harbor' Tried to Be Michael Bay's 'Titanic'?

Posted: 25 May 2016 09:00 PM PDT

Michael Bay. In 2016, the name conjures thoughts of loud, chaotic Transformers movies that earn near-universal scorn and billions of dollars. But when Pearl Harbor came out, 15 years ago this week, Bay was the semi-respectable director of three hit films -- Bad Boys, The Rock, and Armageddon -- that had gotten mixed reviews but were considered, at worst, harmless trifles. Pearl Harbor was an ambitious new step for Bay: a three-hour epic based on real (and very serious) events that some audience members would remember firsthand and that everyone else would have learned about in school. It was a fraught subject that would bring up issues of patriotism, war, and racism. The model to emulate, especially in the early stages, when Bay wanted Pearl Harbor to be an R-rated portrayal of...

The Geek Beat: The Greatest Moments From The 'X-Men' Movies (So Far)

Posted: 25 May 2016 07:30 PM PDT

The big-screen adventures of Marvel Comics' famous mutants continue this week in X-Men: Apocalypse, pitting Charles Xavier's team of gifted youngsters against one of their greatest foes from the comics world. Although Apocalypse director Bryan Singer has described the film as the concluding chapter in a trilogy that began with 2011's X-Men: First Class, the upcoming film is actually the ninth installment of the X-Men franchise – a series that has had a fair share of highs and lows over the course of eight earlier films. With the franchise once again moving forward, it seemed like a good opportunity to look back on those earlier movies and put the spotlight on the scene that (arguably) made each movie so memorable.   X-Men (2000) - Wolverine's...

Disney Will Probably Make a Live-Action Remake of 'The Little Mermaid'

Posted: 25 May 2016 06:00 PM PDT

This weekend, Disney releases the sequel to its live-action Alice in Wonderland remake, which remains one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The studio also just dropped a teaser for its live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, which became the most viewed trailer in a single day ever. So, it makes sense that other potential live-action remakes of Disney animated classics are being discussed right now. The latest, according to Deadline, is for a new take on The Little Mermaid. The project is in a very early stage, such that the studio isn't even certain it will happen. One of the complications involved is that other mermaid movies based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale are in the works elsewhere. Most notable is a Universal production set to star Chloe Grace...

First 'The Space Between Us' Trailer: You'll Believe a Martian and an Earthling Can Fall In Love

Posted: 25 May 2016 04:30 PM PDT

The teen romance is one of the most enduring subgenres around. It's been popular for decades and shows no signs of slowing down, though in recent years these hit stories have moved away from a standard Romeo and Juliet model and more toward being like Romeo and Juliet, but one of them has cancer. The Fault In Our Stars, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Me Before You, If I Stay, The Choice-- they're all about perfect couples whose only obstacle to having a long life together is that one of them is probably going to die before that can happen. The Space Between Us is the latest movie looking to break your heart with a love story about someone with an actual broken heart, and it easily has the most ludicrous plot of them all. It's about a boy who is secretly...

Warning: There will be spoilers in this article in terms of scenes that aren't in X-Men: Apocalypse. If you haven't seen the film yet, you may want to read this after. As X-Men: Apocalypse prepares to raid the Memorial Day weekend box office something fierce, additional promo for the sixth X-Men film continues to remind us of scenes that actually aren't in the theatrical version. Take this more recent TV spot for example, which opens with a Nightcrawler brain-freeze joke that you won't see in theaters, but you will see more of when the film arrives on DVD, Blu-ray, Digital HD and the like. When Fandango spoke to X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer in advance of the film's release, he confirmed several deleted scenes will make it to the home-entertainment...

Mark Ruffalo Promises Hulk Will Be "Hulk-ier" in 'Thor: Ragnarok'

Posted: 25 May 2016 12:00 PM PDT

Late last week we heard that Jeff Goldblum and Karl Urban would be joining the cast of Thor: Ragnarok, which already included the returning Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba, as well as new additions Tessa Thompson and Cate Blanchett. Mark Ruffalo is also starring in the movie as Hulk, though we still don't have an official idea about how he and his fellow Avenger Thor might be hooking up. We got a small clue from Marvel head Kevin Feige recently, when he confirmed that Natalie Portman would not be returning for the third installment in the Thor series because "there are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie," with most of the story taking place "in the cosmos."   Now Ruffalo has provided further hints...
