New 'Game of Thrones' Synopses Reveal Next Two Episodes

Posted:

Game of ThronesYou know nothing, "Game of Thrones" fans." And that's not going to change after reading the official synopses for episodes 4 and 5 of season 6.

HBO released the summaries, but the premium cable network is still being a cagey as Varys. Seriously, somewhere, "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner must be shaking his head and saying "well-played" to the level of obfuscation here.

So what's going to "happen" in the next few weeks? First, the synopsis for "Book of the Stranger," airing May 15:

Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) strikes a deal. Jorah (Iain Glen) and Daario (Michiel Huisman) undertake a difficult task. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei (Lena Headey) try to improve their situation. Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Dan Sackheim.

And here's the synopsis for "The Door," airing May 22:

Tyrion seeks a strange ally. Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) learns a great deal. Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) goes on a mission. Arya (Maisie Williams) is given a chance to prove herself. Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Jack Bender.

Let the rampant speculation and theorizing begin!

Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon Starring in Ryan Murphy's 'Feud' Series

Posted:

FOX Broadcasting Company, Twentieth Century FOX Television And FX Post Emmy PartyHatfields and McCoys, Kanye West and Taylor Swift, watch out — your feuds may be coming to TV soon.

FX has ordered yet another anthology series from Ryan Murphy, the mastermind behind "American Horror Story" and "American Crime Story," the latter of which debuted earlier this year with the well-regarded ratings hit "The People vs. OJ Simpson." This one is called "Feud" and focuses on famous fights through history.

The first eight-episode season will star "Horror Story" Emmy winner Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford and Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis. The two screen sirens duked it out while making the 1962 movie "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" The film went on to be a box office and critical hit, earned five Oscar nominations), and revitalized both actresses' careers. Much of that success can be attributed to their legendary, well-publicized rivalry.

No word on which famous feuds future seasons might tackle, but at least one has already been turned into a pop culture juggernaut by the name of "Hamilton."

'Captain America: Civil War' Claims $25 Million at Thursday Box Office, Eyes $200 Million Opening Weekend

Posted:

"Captain America: Civil War" is already off to a great domestic debut, soaring to $25 million at the Thursday box office.

The threequel didn't manage to beat previous Marvel outing "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in preview numbers, just squeaking under that flick's $27.6 million Thursday total from 2015, though it did outdo "Ultron" in IMAX screenings: "Civil War" earned $3.1 million in the large format theaters, versus "Ultron"'s $3 million.

"Civil War" is currently tracking to have a monster opening weekend stateside, with some estimates indicating the flick could clear the $200 million mark by Sunday night. It's already earned more than that overseas, pulling in $200.2 million, and counting. The flick also opens this weekend in China, where it's expected to generate huge numbers as well.

Insiders are expecting "Civil War" to perform similarly to "Ultron" throughout its theatrical run; the latter flick hauled in $191.3 million on its opening weekend, and earned a total of $1.4 billion worldwide. Deadline reports that some experts are questioning whether Disney is cutting into its own business by releasing "Civil War" during the still-hot run of "The Jungle Book," which could pull moviegoers away from its new flick; others insist that while the films do have some audience overlap, Marvel fandom should show up en masse for Cap and co.

We'll see how everything shakes out when the smoke clears on Sunday. "Captain America: Civil War" is in theaters now.

A 'Cats' Movie May Finally Happen With 'Les Miserables' Director Tom Hooper

Posted:

Delta Goodrem Performs At CATS Media CallLong-running Broadway musical "Cats" may finally be coming to the big screen, with several reports linking Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper to the potential flick.

Hooper, who won an Oscar for "The King's Speech," and also helmed the theatrical version of musical "Les Miserables" (which also won three Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway), is reportedly attached to produce and direct a "Cats" movie. But just how far along the project is -- and how much of a certainty it is that it will actually happen -- is up for debate.

Variety indicates that the project is full steam ahead, with the trade reporting that Hooper has already agreed to work again with his "Les Mis" collaborators at Universal and Working Title. But according to a report from The Daily Mail, it seems that the project is currently in the infancy stages -- and based on what happens during the research and development process, may not move forward at all.

Columnist Baz Bamigboye spoke with an unnamed executive from the project who said filmmakers were currently trying to decide on the best visual approach to the quirky source material, and would perhaps take a cue from Disney's recent hit "The Jungle Book," which seamlessly mixed a majority of CGI shots with its live action lead.

"Do you somehow use actors, sophisticated puppets, CGI — or what?" the exec told Bamigboye of filmmakers' though process. "That's the point of the exercise. We hope to be able to answer all of those questions, following a long period of research."

That long period will stretch well into next year, and possibly beyond, with The Mail reporting that production could be on hold until late 2017 or early 2018 -- and that's the best case scenario. Fans of the musical have been waiting decades for a film version to materialize; it's unclear at this point how much longer they may have to wait.

But those itching for more "Cats" won't have to wait for long: A Broadway revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic -- which originally opened in London in 1981, and ran on the Great White Way from 1981 to 2006 -- is set for this August.

Alden Ehrenreich to Play Han Solo in 'Star Wars' Spinoff

Posted:

US-ENTERTAINMENT-PREMIERE-HAIL, CAESAR!After thousands of actors auditioned for the part, Disney and Lucasfilm have finally found the next Han Solo: Alden Ehrenreich.

Ehrenreich, who had a scene-stealing part in the Coen Brothers' latest flick, "Hail Caesar!," isn't a household name, but that should change with this casting. He'll take on the iconic role, originated by Harrison Ford, in his own "Star Wars" spinoff flick, tentatively titled "Han Solo: A Star Wars Story."

Deadline first reported that Ehrenreich was the frontrunner back in April, beating out a bevy of other actors, including Jack Reynor and Taron Egerton, for the coveted role. Page Six claimed the exclusive on confirming the actor's casting late Thursday, with both Deadline and Variety also posting their own confirming reports. According to Variety, it's likely that Ehrenreich will shoot a small cameo that will be inserted into the other "Star Wars" spinoff, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which is due in theaters in December. Production on the Solo solo flick will then begin in January of 2017.

Earlier this week, Chris Miller, who's co-directing "Han Solo" with Phil Lord, tweeted out his excitement about getting to work on the film. No word yet from the directors, or Ehrenreich himself, about the casting, though we expect an official announcement from the Disney and Lucasfilm brass any day now.

'Project Runway All Stars' Season 5 Crowns Its Winner

Posted:

project runway, project runway all stars, season 5, winner, dom streaterSeason five of "Project Runway All Stars" wrapped up its run on Thursday night, following a showdown between the top three designers: Ken Laurence, Dom Streater, and Kini Zamora. The trio was tasked with creating an eight-look collection inspired by New York City, in four days' time (yep, you read that right -- only FOUR days). So who reigned supreme?

If you've been following her late-season surge, then it probably came as no surprise that Streater sewed up the win, becoming the first female to claim the "All Stars" crown in the show's history. Though Zamora was the odds-on favorite -- and wowed the judges with a showstopping collection that featured some crazy silhouettes -- he ultimately was no match for Dom and her handpainted prints (particularly that gorgeous, Monet-esque first one). Zamora came in second place, and Laurence came in third.

Entertainment Weekly chatted with Streater following the revelation of her big win, and the designer said she was "super happy and proud" to have clinched the victory. Acknowledging her frustration with flying so low under the radar (and continually winding up in the "safe" group) when the competition first started, Streater said she ultimately had to trust her judgement -- a lesson she learned during her time on season 12 of "Project Runway," which she also won -- and that helped her remain focused throughout the "All Stars" run.

"I thought, 'I'm just going to keep following my gut and keep making things that I'm really proud of and let's just see how the judges react to it,'" the designer told EW. "Eventually, they did react to something enough to keep me on the runway. It validated that idea of sticking to my gut enough that they finally reacted to something that was 100 percent me."

Streater's next production will be a baby (she's eight months along now), but after that, she told EW she'll be "releasing a collection of dresses and caftans" on her website, featuring "really cool new prints." We can't wait to see what this promising designer comes up with next.
