Reel TV: A Trailer Roundup of 'Frequency,' 'Training Day,' 'The Exorcist' and More Movies Being Turned Into TV Shows

Posted: 23 May 2016 08:30 PM PDT

When we started the Reel TV tag here on Movies.com, it was to cover the notable, but at the time relatively uncommon, overlaps between the big screen and the small screen. Fast forward a few years, and the overlap between the two has exploded. Not only are a ton of big screen talents working in TV now, but this coming Fall season sees networks rebooting a bunch of movies as TV shows. So far the results are looking a bit mixed. Some of these could be great, some already look they're trying a bit hard, but either way it's pretty clear that movies being turned into shows is the big trend of 2016-2017 TV.   Frequency What's the deal? Same basic deal as the movie, only this time it's a daughter who is able to talk to her father in the past (1996, to be...

Posted: 23 May 2016 07:00 PM PDT

The following post contains spoilers for both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Game of Thrones season six. You know what to do.   Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ends with an echo of one of the most famous comic book storylines of all time. The mutant monstrosity Doomsday is wreaking havoc throughout Metropolis and Gotham City. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman can barely contain him. The future of the planet is on the line. So Superman is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice, managing to kill Doomsday but dying in the process. Although the details vary, this is the broad strokes of the famous Death of Superman comic book storyline, where the man of steel killed Doomsday and lost his own life in process. 'Vacation' and 'Thelma and Louise' Voted the Best Road Trip Movies of All Time

Posted: 23 May 2016 05:30 PM PDT

While summer is already in full force for Hollywood, the upcoming three-day weekend officially kicks off the season for most Americans. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, millions of people will be taking some sort of vacation, many of them in the form of a road trip. And of those making the drive, tons are taking cues from their favorite movies. Fandango recently polled more than 1,000 film fans to name the movie that "inspired them to head out on the highway," and while the top pick is an expected one -- National Lampoon's Vacation -- the rest of the list of 50 titles does include some surprises. Such as the runner-up placement of the much more serious Thelma & Louise.  The picks go back as far as 1934's It Happened One Night and...

Whedon says he's now working on an original screenplay about "a girl who goes through some unbelievable s***. … I’m just writing about something I care about, so it’s a little terrifying and it’s taking a little longer. But I think it will be good!” [The Wrap]   Fargo: Ewan McGregor will star in Fargo. The third season of the television series, inspired by the 1996 feature film, will revolve around brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy, one more successful than the other. McGregor will portray both characters. Production is expected to begin later this year for a planned premiere on...

New 'Star Trek Beyond' Trailer Shakes Things Up

Posted: 23 May 2016 02:30 PM PDT

Tinkering with what's succeeded in the past is always a risky endeavor for filmmakers, especially those who tackle sequels. For example, the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond marked a departure point for the series, leaving behind J.J. Abrams' classic, epic style in favor of a new approach by director Justin Lin, who helmed four films in the Fast and Furious franchise. Oddly enough, though, some fans who were disappointed by the previous installment, Star Trek Into Darkness, and advocated for something totally different suddenly started complaining that the first trailer was too different. Perhaps they didn't like the jokes or the music or the zippy tone or just the idea that Justin Lin might be making a version of Fast and Furious in space. Over the weekend...

Posted: 23 May 2016 01:00 PM PDT

Check it out. Obviously they're holding back a lot here, including looks at many of the characters. Plus, we're itching to see what the new Beast looks like and, of course, that moment when Belle and Beast are...
