Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 14 Recap: 'A' Stands For Alison -- Or Does It?

Posted:

Rosewood just hasn't been the same since Mona Vanderwaal was murdered and shoved into the back of a car with a Baby Jesus doll as her only friend, and the time has come to find out who killed her. Actually, this is "Pretty Little Liars" we're talking about -- we'll probably never know who killed Mona.

The good news is that Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Emily Fields and Hanna Marin have finally decided to fight back against Alison DiLaurentis, and they're on a mission to make her pay for Mona's death. The better news is that Ezra "Remember When I Stalked You, LOL!" Fitz manages not to wander down a staircase dressed as a Sexy Santa for his underage girlfriend during this episode. Apparently, he got that out of his system in the "Pretty Little Liars" Christmas special. With that in mind, it's time for our recap!

Emily Plants Evidence, Spencer's Freedom Hangs By A Thread, and Toby Remains Amusingly Terrible At Being A Policeman

It's been three months since Mona was murdered by A, and so much has happened. Ezra's remodeling his terrifying shack in the woods, Caleb's moved into his own apartment, Aria's taken to blowing an emergency whistle every time she sees Ali, and Mona's body still hasn't been found. Of course the PLLs are convinced that Ali killed her, and apparently the rest of the town is right there with them -- Mona's mom even slaps Ali across the face when she shows up uninvited to her funeral!

But there are more important things at hand then Mona's disappearance: Bethany Young's parents want Spencer's bail revoked in light of alarming new information about the night she died. Turns out Mrs DiLaurentis told Officer Darren Wilson that Spencer was trolling around her yard with a blonde dressed in Ali's clothes, but fear not -- Toby is on the case...kinda. Basically, he thinks Officer Wilson was paid off to hide Mrs DiLaurentis' statement, and because he's been a policeman for about five minutes we totally believe him.

In other news, Jason DiLaurentis is back in town, which means it's time for some real talk with Spencer-- who's convinced that he's lying about Ali's alibi. Turns out he's right: Ali was unaccounted for on Thanksgiving, but when Jason confronts her, Ali claims she's being framed. Poor Jason has 99 problems and his surplus of sisters is one.

Spencer Reunites with Jason, Every College In America Rejects Aria, and A Attacks

The key to Spencer's innocence is proving that Ali is a murderer, but the problem? Ali has an airtight alibi for the night Mona died: she was celebrating Thanksgiving with her family. The solution? Planting evidence. Emily and Spencer decide to sprinkle some of Ali's hair around Mona's house, but they discover hidden cameras while they're sleuthing around. Dun dun duuuuuun. Obviously, the recordings are handed over to the police, who immediately call in Jason to see if he can identify footage of a blonde girl attacking Mona. Which he most definitely does (pssst, he thinks it's Ali).

In other news, Aria's finally realized that there's life outside of Rosewood, and she's worried about the fact that she hasn't gotten into any colleges. She decides to pay a visit to Caleb Rivers, Rosewood's resident computer nerd / bad-boy (it's a rare breed), who teaches her how to hack into Oberlin's system. Unfortunately, Caleb's computer is stolen when A decides to go on a crazy rampage and attack Aria at Ezra's place -- attempting to asphyxiate her in the process. Sigh, making memories!

Oh, and speaking of Aria and Ezra, it's time for relationship updates from the liars and their significant others, most of whom are age appropriate (cough, we see you Ezra, cough). While Hanna and Caleb / Spencer and Toby seem just as in love as ever, we're slightly worried about Emily and Paige -- mostly because Paige is moving to California thanks to her parents realizing that Rosewood is a town full of murderers, sociopaths, and perverts. We'll miss you, lady!

Alison's Arrested and -- Wait For It -- A Returns

Now, for the moment you've been waiting for: Carla Grunwald is back! This creepy old lady has escaped from the abandoned "Ravenswood" sound stage (RIP best show ever), and Hanna decides to hunt her down for help finding Mona's body. Naturally, Grunwald puts her magic powers to good use, and after clutching one of Mona's stuffed animals, she confirms that Mona isn't in Rosewood but is surrounded by "insects and cold." Uhm, well that's horrifying.

So, what happens next? You guessed it, Alison is taken down. After selling his sister out, Jason stalls the police long enough to let Ali escape -- but she's stopped in her tracks by the little liars and then promptly arrested for Mona's murder. But not before warning her former BFFs that A will be after them next! All we have is one word: DRAMA. Of course, Spencer is off the hook now that Alison's arrested (The DA decides she was being set up by Alison), which is great and everything, but there's just one problem. A sends the little liars a message via fireworks display (s/he's so creative!) while Ali's in jail. Whoops...guess they got the wrong girl.

Also, if you're wondering how Ezra spent his time this week, he painfully attempted to bond with Aria's brother Mike (who's basically having a breakdown about Mona's death) over some manly bookshelf building. Way to remain awkward, buddy!

Ellen Page Says 'F*** That' After Queen Elizabeth II Commends Anti-LGBTQ Politician

Posted:

Halifax-born actress Ellen Page had some choice words for Queen Elizabeth II after Her Majesty honoured a Northern Ireland politician who has made offensive comments about LGBT people.

The star of "Juno" and "Inception" tweeted "F*** That" on Monday in response to a Vice story about the Queen's decision to hand an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) to Maurice Mills, an alderman for the town of Ballymena, for "services to local government."

Mills, a born-again Christian, was last year quoted by The Guardian saying the following about Hurricane Katrina: "The media failed to report that the hurricane occurred just two days prior to the annual homosexual event called the Southern Decadence festival which the previous year had attracted an estimated 125,000 people."

The celebration is billed as the "largest gay event in New Orleans."

Mills was called upon to apologize for the comments in 2006, but he never retracted them, nor did the Democratic Unionist Party, to which he belongs, The Belfast Telegraph reported.

"If I were to apologize for my comments then God would have to apologize," Mills said at the time.

The Guardian also quoted Mills saying the following, of the AIDS epidemic in Africa: "This abominable and filthy practice of sodomy has resulted in the great continent of Africa being riddled with AIDS."

A Change.org petition is calling on the U.K.'s Honours Forfeiture Committee to retract Mills' honour.

As of Tuesday night, the petition had almost 700 supporters, and was seeking just over 300 more.

Mindy Kaling On What's In Store for 'The Mindy Project' (EXCLUSIVE)

Posted:

We've waited patiently through the cold, Mindy Lahiri-less holidays, and now we're pleased to say that "The Mindy Project" finally returns to our TV sets tonight. When we last left our favorite on-screen OB-GYN she had just been accepted to a competitive medical fellowship at Stanford. So, what happens now? We got the chance to speak with Mindy Kaling via email about what this means for Danny and Mindy and what else we can expect as Season 3 continues.

Moviefone: The mid-season finale left off with Mindy and Danny in a good place. What can we expect for these two as the season progresses? Any bumps in the road coming their way?

Mindy Kaling: Danny and Mindy will always have a tumultuous relationship, in bad times or good. It's going to be fun to see how they face the specific challenges we throw at them in the spring.

What will we see when it comes to Mindy's experience at Stanford? How will she fare in more of a student role?

We loved the idea of Mindy in a college setting. It's been really funny seeing her flourish and stumble in the role of student.

Mindy has been coupled up for the entirety of the season. How is it different to write for her being in a relationship vs. navigating single life? Do you think she's changed at all or remained pretty true to herself in this relationship?

The great thing about Mindy and Danny is that they are so different, so together or apart, they are funny. It hasn't been any different writing for them as a couple.

Adam Pally will be exiting the show this season. Any insight into how you will be handling his departure? And what would you personally want for Dr. Peter Prentice in say, 10 years?

Peter's leaving was surprisingly emotional, for such a big and outrageous character. He is such a fixture on the show, and identifies Mindy as his best friend. We will definitely be seeing more of him.

Rhea Perlman has been fantastic. Will we see any other big guest stars in the near future?

We have been so lucky with our guest and recurring cast. Lee Pace is on the show next week -- I adore him. Lee is so talented and versatile he can disappear into these amazing roles, so I was excited to use him as a good old-fashioned handsome suitor.

And what can we expect when it comes to Morgan's love life? It's always great to see him in action romantically.

Ike is so funny we forget that he is also a leading man. I love seeing Morgan in a relationship and we will definitely see more of it.

"The Mindy Project" airs Tuesdays at 9:30 PM on Fox.

Matt Damon's 'Bourne' Sequel Gets New Release Date

Posted:

bourne identity
Matt Damon's return to the "Bourne" series was much-touted and has been long-awaited, but fans of the franchise are going to have to wait a little bit longer before they can see the titular spy back in action.

The still-untitled sequel has been pushed back two weeks from its original release date. The flick was set to debut on July 15, 2016; now, it will premiere on July 29, 2016.

No reason for the change was announced, though Variety suspects the film wants to avoid competition with the third "Star Trek" flick, which is set to debut the weekend before the new "Bourne"'s original release date. Now, it will also premiere one week ahead of DC's "Suicide Squad."

Paul Greengrass is also returning to the "Bourne" series for the hotly-anticipated flick.

'Jurassic Parks and Recreation' Is the Chris Pratt Mash-Up You've Been Waiting For (VIDEO)

Posted:

Jurassic Parks and Recreation
Chris Pratt has transformed himself from the affable Andy Dwyer on "Parks and Recreation" into a bona fide action star, thanks to high-profile turns in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and this summer's upcoming "Jurassic World." Now, one enterprising YouTuber has combined those elements into one awesome mash-up trailer.

"Jurassic Parks and Recreation" offers audiences a chance to see Andy Dwyer transferred from Pawnee, Indiana to Isla Nublar, where he works for the recently-opened Jurassic World. Unfortunately for Andy, his laidback approach to life doesn't really work well when there's a dangerous hybrid dinosaur on the loose, leading to some awkward moments -- and comedy gold.

Check out the mash-up (which uses the "Jurassic World" trailer as a frame in which clips from "Parks and Recreation" are inserted) below, and try not to be too disappointed that the real movie probably won't feature any of Andy's hijinks. Could someone send this to director Colin Trevorrow and see if he'd be willing to re-cut the film?

90s movies on netflix streamingYou've probably seen all the '90s movies, like "Pulp Fiction," "Clueless" and "Wayne's World" that Netflix has to offer, but there are also plenty of lesser-known gems available to stream. Sit down and enjoy these indies, first films by famous directors and some other great '90s movies you might have missed.

1. "Big Night" (1996) R
A great movie (co-directed by stars Stanley Tucci and Campbell Scott) about two Italian brothers in 1950s running an unsuccessful restaurant who go all out when a celebrity's visit promises to save their business.

2. "Boys Don't Cry" (1999) R
Hilary Swank won her first Best Actress Oscar for her searing portrayal of a woman who lives life as a man, until her secret is found out by her redneck friends.

3. "Clueless" (1995) PG-13
How many times have you seen Alicia Silverstone make over her friends and try to play matchmaker? Not enough!

4. "Croupier" (1998) NR
The movie that introduced a lot people to Clive Owen: He plays a casino dealer who's recruited for a shady scheme in this Brit drama.

5. "Devil in a Blue Dress" (1995) R
A terrific period mystery (based on the Walter Mosley novel) starring Denzel Washington as detective Easy Rawlins, with Don Cheadle as his hotheaded friend who aids in his investigation of an enigmatic woman (Jennifer Beals).

6. "Ever After: A Cinderella Story" (1998) PG-13
With so many Cinderella reboots happening, it's a great time to revisit this version with Drew Barrymore as the independent heroine who stands up to her evil stepmother, Anjelica Huston

7. "Fallen Angels" (1995) NR
A good introduction to filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai: It's also his best-reviewed film. Set in Hong Kong, it features a series of vignettes, one involving a hit man.

8. "Fargo" (1996) R
Frances McDormand won a Best Actress Oscar for her indelible role as pregnant cop Marge Gunderson, who is on the trail of bizarre crime duo Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare. You can also stream the Coen Bros. 1991 film "Barton Fink."

9. "Glengarry Glen Ross" (1992) R
The ultimate, ridiculously quotable David Mamet film features Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, and Alec Baldwin as cutthroat real estate salesmen.

10. "The Grifters" (1990) R
A trio of con artists -- Anjelica Huston, John Cusack, and Annette Bening -- tangle in a web of greed, lust and, ultimately, murder in this Stephen Frears adaptation of a Jim Thompson pulp novel.

11. "Heavenly Creatures" (1994) R
Kate Winslet's first lead role is as a teen who forms a dangerously intense relationship with a classmate (Melanie Lynskey) that leads to murder in Peter Jackson's wildly visual film that blends romance, murder and bizarre fantasy.

12. "The Hunt for Red October" (1990) PG
The first (and best?) Jack Ryan film stars Alec Baldwin as the super agent, who somehow knows every move a rogue Soviet submarine captain (Sean Connery) is going to make.

13. "The Krays" (1990) R
Spandau Ballet's Gary Kemp and Martin Kemp star as the murderous real-life British gangster brothers in this stylish crime drama.

15. "Pi" (1998) R
Darren Aronofsky's mind-bending feature film debut, about an obsessed number theorist, is still one of his best.

16. "Pulp Fiction" (1994) R
Probably our favorite Quentin Tarantino film: The dancing, the hypodermic, the gold watch, the samurai sword, the wallet, that soundtrack... what's not to love?

17. "Reservoir Dogs" (1992) R
With his first film -- about a heist gone very, very wrong -- Tarantino boldly announced he was a force to be reckoned with.

18. "Searching for Bobby Fischer" (1993) PG
Based on a true story of a young chess prodigy, one who comes under the wing of a ruthless instructor (Ben Kingsley) who schools him in the "Bobby Fischer" strategy.

Emma Thompson love stammering, shy Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet loves reckless Greg Wise and Alan Rickman loves Kate Winslet in one of the best-ever Jane Austen adaptations.

20. "Shakespeare in Love" (1998) R
Love conquers all, even war, as was the case when this period romance upset "Saving Private Ryan" to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

21. "Shall We Dance?" (1996) PG
A very funny film in which a married Japanese businessman decides to secretly take dancing lessons. (Skip the U.S. remake, which starred Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere.)

22. "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) R
This bone-chilling thriller rightly earned Oscars for Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter and Jodie Foster as FBI trainee Clarice Starling.

23. "Slacker" (1991)
Richard Linklater's second film is a sprawling, talky ramble across his hometown of Austin, Texas, like overhearing random conversations at your local coffee house or bar.

24. "Smoke" (1995) R
Co-directed by Wayne Wang and novelist Paul Auster (who also write the screenplay), this film follows multiple characters who hang out at a tobacco shop in Brooklyn. Among the cast: William Hurt, Harvey Keitel, Harold Perrineau, Forest Whitaker, Ashley Judd and Giancarlo Esposito.

25. "The Snapper" (1993) R
An unplanned pregnancy throws an Irish working class family into chaos in this Stephen Frears comedy drama starring Colm Meaney.

26. "Strictly Ballroom" (1992) PG
Baz Luhrmann's first film in the "Red Carpet Trilogy" takes place in the world of ballroom dancing, where one dancer wants to (gasp!) introduce New Steps!

27. "Tarzan" (1999) G
Tarzan meets Jane in this pleasing Disney entry with Oscar-winning songs by Phil Collins.

28. "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991) R
Sure, it's always on TV but if you want to watch Terminator vs. Terminator and Linda Hamilton being a badass with no commercials, dial this up on Netflix.

29. "Trainspotting" (1996) R
Danny Boyle's hyper-kinetic movie about a bunch of Scottish heroin addicts (including a never-better Ewan McGregor and Jonny Lee Miller) remains one of his best films.

30. "Wayne's World" (1992) PG-13
"Excellent."

31. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (1993) PG-13
Johnny Depp takes care of his brother (Oscar-nominated Leonardo DiCaprio) and romances Juliette Lewis and Mary Steenburgen in this '90s favorite.

'Good Kill' Trailer: Ethan Hawke Fights With Drones

Posted:

Good KillMachines are taking over every aspect of our lives - including war. Battles these days are fought from thousands of miles away, and guns have been replaced by computers. Many soldiers' lives are saved, but at what cost?

That's the question posed in the trailer for "Good Kill," which stars Ethan Hawke as a former fighter pilot who now flies drones. He can obliterate enemies from the comfort of his trailer in Las Vegas, then go home to his beautiful house, beautiful wife (January Jones), and beautiful kids.

But Hawke wrestles with the moral implications of what he's doing. "Don't ask me if it's a just war. That's not up to us. To us, it's just war," his boss (Bruce Greenwood) shrugs.

"Good Kill" screened at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, and will open in theaters sometime in 2015.

'Game of Thrones' Coming to IMAX

Posted:

Game of ThronesWesteros is going big - very big.

"Game of Thrones" is heading to IMAX for one week, starting January 23, where fans can watch two digitally-remastered season 4 episodes, "The Watchers on the Wall" and "The Children." As a bonus treat, an exclusive season 5 trailer will screen with them.

"The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format," said HBO chief marketing exec Pamela Levine. "We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event."

The sweeping, epic drama is a good choice to be the first television show to screen on IMAX. Tickets will go on sale soon.

"Game of Thrones" season 5 returns this spring, likely in March or April. HBO has been teasing fans with brief glimpses, but so far, all we know is that Bran Stark won't be featured this season and there will be a flashback involving a dead character.

2014 Razzie Nominations Include 'The Interview,' 'Sex Tape'

Posted:

The InterviewAh, awards season. It's a time to honor the best and brightest of the year in film. But with the good must come the bad, so that means it's also time to dishonor the worst movies of the year.

The Golden Raspberry Award nominations were unveiled today, and topping the list of nominees is Seth MacFarlane's "A Million Ways to Die in the West" with eight mentions. Close behind are "Sex Tape" with five nominations and "The Interview" with four.

The Razzies really didn't like James Franco, who was nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Screen Combo (with either Seth Rogen or Randall Park). But the group clearly despises "Transformers: Age of Extinction," calling it "Ex-Stink-tion" or "Trannies 4."

Voting for the Razzies is now open on their website through January 10. The "winners" will be announced January 14, a day before Oscar nominations are announced.

'Gambit,' 'Assassin's Creed' Set For 2016 Release

Posted:

2014 TIFF - A little Cajun flavor is coming our way next year.

Fox announced a slew of new and modified release dates, including one for the long-awaited "X-Men" solo film, "Gambit." Star Channing Tatum also announced the "Gambit" date on Twitter:
The studio also revealed that video game adaptation "Assassin's Creed" will hit theaters on Dec. 21. Hugh Jackman's musical, "The Greatest Showman on Earth," will bow on Christmas Day, and "The Mountain Between Us" with Rosamund Pike and Charlie Hunnam as plane crash survivors opens before Valentine's Day 2017.

One big change is that the third "Planet of the Apes" film will be pushed back a year to July 2017. The "Fantastic Four" reboot will be moved up a few weeks that same summer, so that "Apes" can have its place.

Best of Late Night TV: Bradley Cooper Plays Air Guitar in Birthday Afro, Bachelor Chris Soules Overshares (VIDEO)

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

The 2015 late-night talk shows are now in session! "The Tonight Show" welcomed the new year with Bradley Cooper playing Neil Young's "Down by the River" on air guitar while wearing a crazy birthday hat afro and thrusting his crotch in audience members's faces. It's going to be a good year.
The story behind the crazy afro hats is that Jimmy gave one to Bradley for his birthday (Bradley turned 40 on January 5), then rocked one himself. Bradley also talked about Clint Eastwood and "American Sniper," which sounds like a strange transition, especially since they did so much laughing. They just got a case of the giggles and couldn't let it go.
ABC's new Bachelor, Chris Soules, was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," talking about Monday night's premiere. Does he like being called Prince Farming? Does he get to keep the clothes? Has he been back to farming? Jimmy said he knows who wins this time because he invaded Chris's inner sanctum. (He probably always knows who wins from spoilers, but he's refraining from sharing his "prediction" this time.) Jimmy shared a bunch of contestant photos, and Chris reacted with "crazy or not crazy." Jimmy laughed and stopped him at one point, since Chris was giving away too much real information. Jimmy said he might get sued by ABC from all of Chris's spoilery answers.
Anne Hathaway was also on JKL, and Jimmy asked her if she watched "The Bachelor." She said no, but she does watch some reality TV. Or she did, for one day, when she had swine flu. She binge-watched "Toddlers & Tiaras." Ha! She also talked about spending the holidays with her family, and she and Jimmy discussed the cut-off date for "Happy New Year."
Kathy Griffin was on "Late Show" and she called the Fashion Police on David Letterman, to declare him one of the worst dressed. You can imagine how deeply Dave cared. #sarcasm They posed together, though, and Dave said she looked great. He said he's not supposed to look great. Kathy disagreed. She also discussed her pre-telecast dinner with Ryan Seacrest and Anderson Cooper (she bashed the heck out of Ryan, you almost have to feel sorry for the guy) and talked about dyeing Anderson's hair live on TV. She and Dave also shared some interesting sexual innuendo. "Selma" star David Oyelowo was also on Dave's show, talking about theater, spoiling his kids, and his role as MLK Jr. Very different from Kathy Griffin.
Anna Kendrick, always the best part of any talk show, was on "Late Night" with Seth Meyers, and she talked about singing in "Into the Woods" and preparing for "Pitch Perfect 2." Apparently the Green Bay Packers are huge PP fans and they're in the sequel. Anna also talked about how much she loves red pandas. She went to the zoo on Christmas day and saw the pandas. Now she wants a whole farm of them.
Donald Faison was on "Conan," talking about the difference - to him - between "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." He likes one much more than the other. Much. In fact, he dogs the other one as boring and lame.
Courteney Cox was also on "Conan," and apparently she has a really bad memory. She produces a show called "Celebrity Name Game," hosted by Craig Ferguson (miss you, man) and she talked about the pressure of the game and her lousy memory. They showed a clip where she just couldn't come up with '80s band intel. It's tragic. She said her memory is so bad that she forgets when she doesn't like someone. She also talked about passing up a Central Perk pop-up store.
