Comics on Film: Ranking Marvel Studios' "Phase Two" Movies Posted: 31 Jul 2015 08:00 PM PDT Now that we’ve reached the end of July, we’ve also reached the end of Marvel Studios’ “Phase Two” slate of its cinematic-universe movies, with a little downtime before the next set of movies, TV shows, One-Shots, and Netflix ventures arrive in a few months from now. So, as we say goodbye to Phase Two and get ready to welcome Phase Three in May of 2016, it seems like now would be a good time to see exactly how each of the Phase Two films can be ranked. Of course, this is only one opinion, so feel free to share yours in the comments below. 6) Thor: The Dark World The second solo outing for the God of Thunder had a lot of potential behind it. By featuring both Thor and Loki, it could directly follow up the relationship between the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Lost Soul,' 'Jodorowsky's Dune' and the Poisonous Power of "Great" Unmade Movies Posted: 31 Jul 2015 06:30 PM PDT The Last Sci-Fi Blog is a biweekly column on all things sci-fi. Sometimes the best genre stories are too ambitious for the screen. A great vision is the work of a single talented mind. A great story is the result of that imagination actually being put to work. That great story can become a novel, which is the fruit of one individual's hard work (not to forget about editors and publishers and what-not). So that brings me to my point: even the best books are still the result of one person settling in behind a desk and getting things done. The best movies, on the other hand, involve hundreds if not thousands of people, with countless external elements working against everyone at all times. If it starts storming when you're writing a book, you contemplate the rain for a... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Posted: 31 Jul 2015 02:30 PM PDT Harrison Ford is a real life superhero. When a prop malfunctioned on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, slamming one of the real metal doors of the Millennium Falcon crushing down on him, it broke Ford's ankle. But he went back to filming just a few months later. A few months after that, he crash landed an airplane onto a golf course, breaking his ankle yet again as well as his pelvis. A few months after that, he was hitting the stage at Comic-Con like nothing ever happened. JJ Abrams? Not quite as much of a superhero, as he tells it himself. The director revealed last night on The Daily Show that when the Millennium Falcon incident happened, he rushed over to try and lift the door off of Ford's leg. Not only was he unable to do it, but the attempt broke his... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

[Coming Soon] Ghostbusters: In response to recent rumors, Ghostbusters producer Ivan Reitman says: "There is only one new Ghostbusters movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically.
