The Best Movie Trailers of the Week: ‘My Life Directed,’ ‘Welcome to Me’ and More

Posted: 20 Feb 2015 09:00 PM PST

Welcome back to Best Movie Trailers of the Week, a column where we handpick the best new movie trailers that have arrived online over the past week. Welcome to Me I’ll watch anything starring Kristen Wiig, but this new trailer for Welcome to Me sells Wiig’s character as a particularly unique woman who winds up in an especially curious, amusing and mildly relevant situation. It doesn’t seem like that big of a stretch for a lottery winner to buy her own show and thanks to Wiig’s natural charm, the piece leaves you hoping Alice Klieg defies the odds, doesn’t waste a good chunk of her winnings on nothing and actually manages to become an unlikely but successful talk show host.   Mad Max: Fury Road Mad Max does it again! Even though...

Flashback: That Time Richard Pryor Had His Own Kids' Show

Posted: 20 Feb 2015 05:30 PM PST

If only Lenny Bruce had lived long enough to get his own Saturday-morning cartoon. At some point, it seems now, every racy comedian goes clean for the sake of family entertainment. Howie Mandel, George Carlin and Bob Saget had all mostly performed stand-up meant only for adult ears before (and sometimes during and after) getting their own kid-friendly programs, respectively Bobby's World, Shining Time Station and both Full House and America's Funniest Home Videos. And let's not forget that before Pee-wee's Playhouse and a couple movies made Pee-wee Herman seem as innocent as Mickey Mouse, the character (stage alias of Paul Reubens) did some pretty blue material, which you can see in his earlier HBO special. It shouldn't be surprising, then, that...

Movie News: Jared Leto Teases Joker Role; 'Settlers of Catan' Heads to the Big Screen

Posted: 20 Feb 2015 01:00 PM PST

Suicide Squad: The Joker, Batman's most iconic villain, will not actually be making an appearance in Batman v Superman. His first stop in the new DC Comics movie universe will be in Suicide Squad, and actor Jared Leto has teased out a tiny bit about the role. First, he's having to gain a lot of weight for it, so don't expect a rail-thin Joker. Second, Leto called him a "nearly Shakespearean character" and a "beautiful disaster." [Hollywood Reporter] Gore Verbinski: The director of the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies has a new adventure comedy in the works. Sony Pictures has bought up a pitch that he's attached to direct about a transcontinental car race that's...

See the First Image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman

Posted: 20 Feb 2015 09:50 AM PST

The first Aquaman movie doesn't arrive in theaters until 2018 and it doesn't even have a cast or director yet, but that did not stop Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder from debuting the first official look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman on Twitter.  Check it out below... "Unite The Seven" most likely refers to the seven members of Justice League: Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Green Lantern. And the fact that we're getting this look at Momoa now pretty much confirms his involvement in Batman v. Superman, due in theaters on March 25, 2016. We'll also see him in the subsequent Justice League movie in 2017, making it so we...
