Recap of Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 18: Keep It Like A Secret Posted: Between Ezra Fitz's terrible life choices, Aria Montgomery's hair feathers, and the fact that everyone's favorite Kindergarten Cop (aka Toby Cavanaugh) still thinks he's a policeman, "Pretty Little Liars" has been a roller coaster of non-stop drama. This week, the liars continue to investigate Mona Vanderwaal's murder, and it looks like they might be getting closer to uncovering the truth. Actually, that will probably never happen -- this is "Pretty Little Liars" we're talking about. But hey, at least we're one step closer to unraveling this episode with our recap! Hanna Discovers One of Mona's Biggest Secrets, Holbrook Gets Suspended Alison DiLaurentis' trial is coming up, and the little liars are pretty convinced she's going to be convicted. That's the good news. The bad news is that Hanna is public enemy number one with the police (who think she's Alison's accomplice), and now she's on a mission to clear her name. First on the list? Heading to the police station, where she overhears Detective Holbrook get suspended. Next up? Connecting with Mona's old friend, Lesli. Turns out this newcomer is in town to meet the liars, and she wastes no time telling Hanna that she suspects Aria's brother, Mike Montgomery. Thanks for your theory, Lesli, if that's even your real name. Also of note: Hanna spends a lot of this episode having flashbacks while clutching a giant book, which she realizes is actually a box. It's contents? A tiny tape containing Bethany Young's therapy sessions. Spencer Makes A New Friend, Hanna Confronts Holbrook Detective Holbrook's must be taking lessons from Ezra Fitz' School of Stalking, because he follows Hanna and pulls her over for speeding (despite the fact that he was suspended). Holbrook ends up going on a crazy rant about how his career is finished thanks to Ali, and also mentions that he's been holed up in a hotel with internal affairs for the past week. Guess this means he isn't Ali's fall guy after all (or, to quote Hanna, they've been "barking up the wrong henchman"). In other news, remember how there's a free-spirited artist living in Spencer's barn who's trying to convince her to ditch college? Yeah, well he's obsessed with Spence, and these two spend most of this episode building Ezra a "perpetual motion machine powered by secrets." Or, in layman's terms, the most amazing thing ever. Also it should be noted that Mrs. Hastings is consulting with the prosecution on Ali's case, and she finds out that the blood spots found last week belong to Alison. Sweet relief. Emily and Talia Get Close, Aria Suspects Her Brother of Cahooting Last week, Ezra announced that he and Aria should probably breakup so she can spread her wings and fly, and while we appreciate the fact that he's finally realized how weird it is for him to be dating a teenager who he used to stalk, Aria is now in a state of emotional fragility. To make matters worse, she finds out that Mike has been visiting Ali in jail, so she does what any girl who spends time with Ezra would do: she stalks him. Aria follows Mike to a lake and watches him drop off a sinister looking plastic bag full of candy, and when he sees her he refuses to divulge any information about what he's up to or why he's visiting Ali. Could he be Ali's new henchman? Possibly.... Of course we can't forget about Emily and Talia, who spend most of this episode in a fit of sexually tense side-eyes. It's clear that Emily's interested in her co-worker, but the fact that she's still hung up on Paige makes things slightly tricky. However, Emily ends up telling Talia how she really feels using Ezra's completely hilarious whisper machine, and they share a sweet kiss. Which would be a pretty adorable way to close out the episode if we weren't fairly certain that everyone's going to go to jail and / or die next week. Burning Questions: 1. Is Mike working with Alison? And if so, why -- he's Team Mona! 2. Ezra was MIA this week -- when will he and Aria resolve their relationship dilemma? 3. Now that Holbook's been rejected by Ali, will he join the liars? 4. Toby was also MIA this week -- will he and Spencer reconnect, or will she start dating Jonny? 5. What was on the rest of Bethany Young's therapy session tape? This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Channing Tatum Shows Off His Goods in 'Magic Mike XXL' Poster (PHOTO) Posted: The sequel to "Magic Mike" is coming soon, and a new poster for "Magic Mike XXL" wants you to know it. In a not-so-subtle reference to the, uh, passion that the first film elicited, this image from the follow-up directs audiences to the real star of the series: the male anatomy. And while titular star Channing Tatum doesn't show off much more than his toned abs, the promise of more should leave eager moviegoers salivating. "Magic Mike XXL" takes place three years after the first flick, with Mike and his crew reuniting for a big show in Myrtle Beach that's set to be his swan song in the stripping game. Tatum is joined by returning cast members Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez, and Gabriel Iglesias; newcomers to the lineup include Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover, Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Michael Strahan. Check out the full poster below, and check out Tatum and co. when "Magic Mike XXL" hits theaters on July 1. [via: Coming Soon] Photo credit: Warner Bros. The Joker Is Coming to 'Gotham' Sooner Than You Think Posted: One of the biggest questions surrounding Fox's Batman origin series "Gotham" has been when fans can expect to see iconic villain The Joker. Now, executive producer Bruno Heller has revealed that Batman's arch nemesis will be featured sooner rather than later. In an interview with TV Guide, Heller said that initial plans to wait until at least season two to introduce The Joker have been altered -- and the villain will now appear sometime before the end of season one. "We've said you're going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America -- nobody wants to wait," Heller told TV Guide. "So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it -- a little tap on the door." Heller declined to comment further on the Joker storyline, though he did tease that there would be lots of development in the Edward Nygma/The Riddler transformation during the latter half of the first season. Sounds like there will be plenty to keep fans occupied until The Joker shows up. [via: TV Guide] Photo credit: Fox This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Oscar Nominee Felicity Jones in Talks for 'Star Wars' Spinoff: Report Posted: It seems that rumors that Tatiana Maslany has been offered the lead role in Gareth Edwards's still-untitled "Star Wars" spin-off film may have been premature: The Hollywood Reporter is now writing that Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, not Maslany, is the frontrunner for the part. THR reports that the "Theory of Everything" star is currently in talks with Disney about the female lead role in the top-secret project. While THR says that Maslany was indeed in the running, as was Rooney Mara, it seems that Jones is currently the number one choice for the gig. There's still no official word on just what character the standalone "Wars" flick will focus, though rumors have run the gamut from Boba Fett to Han Solo. According to THR, Edwards's flick is believed to have Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez on the shortlist for the male lead. Considering how many times this casting has been "confirmed," we'll take this with a grain of salt for now. Stay tuned to see if Disney has any comment. The flick in question is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 16, 2016. Oscars 2015: Watch Cute Kids Reenact the Best Picture Nominees (VIDEO) Posted: We're only weeks away from the 2015 Oscars, but if Moviefone were handing out awards, we'd give them all to the adorable kids in this clip from Cinefix, in which youngsters reenact key scenes from all eight of this year's Best Picture nominees. The video features the creepy fake baby from "American Sniper," Stephen Hawking bragging about conceiving children while confined to a wheelchair in "The Theory of Everything," jokes about Oprah in "Selma," and a bald cap-clad tot screaming at a diminutive drummer in "Whiplash." "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Birdman," "The Imitation Game," and "Boyhood" also get their due. It's a clever, tongue-in-cheek parody that boils each film down to its basest elements, while still leaving room for reverence. Check it out below. The 2014 Academy Awards are scheduled for February 22. Photo credit: CineFix This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Daredevil' Teaser: A (Quick) First Look at Netflix and Marvel's New Series (VIDEO) Posted: It's not the official teaser -- that's dropping tomorrow, February 4 -- but Marvel and Netflix couldn't help but offer a short glimpse at the trailer for "Daredevil," the streaming service's first foray into a four-series partnership with the comic powerhouse. The clip is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it look at our hero, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind man who moonlights as the titular superhero. We see Daredevil, in a makeshift costume, slink down a darkened hallway before busting down a door and barging through. "I'm just trying to make my city a better place," he says in voiceover. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out additional details about the series, but this sneak peek should get fans excited to see more. "Daredevil" premieres on Netflix on April 10. Watch the First 2 Minutes of 'The Walking Dead' Midseason Premiere Posted: On "The Walking Dead," Rick Grimes and crew are on the road again - but perhaps not for long. AMC released the first two minutes of Sunday's midseason premiere, in which the group debates going to a safe zone near Richmond, Va. where Noah's (Tyler James Williams) family lives. "It's a long trip, but if it works out, it's the last long trip we have to make," says Rick (Andrew Lincoln). Knock on wood: So far, Rick and company haven't had the greatest luck with so-called safe zones, like the prison and Woodbury. But Noah reminds them that this is what Beth wanted before she was killed in December's winter finale. Could this be where the group meets Ross Marquand's new series regular character? Maybe we'll find out on the Feb. 8 premiere. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New 'Minions' Trailer: Going to Work For Scarlet Overkill Posted: If you're a minion looking for a new evil overlord, where would you go to find one? Orlando, of course! Another new trailer is out for "Minions," which is just as cute as the first one and the Super Bowl spot. Seriously, watching these adorable creatures try to be bad is just, well, adorable. This second, full-length trailer lays out the story: Kevin, Bob, and Stu hitch a ride to Orlando for Villain Con, the world's biggest gathering of evildoers. At first, they find their evil talents aren't exactly inspiring potential employers - as one snarks, "That's not evil or a talent" - until they meet Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock). She is exactly the kind of monster they've been waiting for, but are they the kind of minions who will help her ... or (accidentally) bring her down? "Minions" brings its cute to theaters July 10. 'Lost' Reunion! USA Orders Josh Holloway and Carlton Cuse Series Posted: Josh Holloway and Carlton Cuse are going back - not to the island, but back to working with each other. USA announced a 10-episode order of the alien invasion drama "Colony," which will reunite executive producer Cuse with his "Lost" star Josh Holloway. And to spark even more fan interest, former "The Walking Dead" star Sarah Wayne Callies will be joining them. Here's the synopsis of the show, which will be co-written and produced by Cuse and Ryan Condal:
Holloway plays a former FBI agent who toes the line with the new overlords, while Callies plays his wife. Amanda Righetti, formerly of "The Mentalist," plays her sister, whose young child is diabetic. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch Julianne Moore Get Witchy in an Exclusive Scene From 'Seventh Son' (VIDEO) Posted: Chances are you saw the "Seventh Son" spot that aired as part of Sunday night's big Super Bowl game (the one that played while Katy Perry was offstage, partying with her land-shark homeboys). The swashbuckling fantasy, starring Jeff Bridges and Ben Barnes and based on the novel "The Spook's Apprentice" by Joseph Delaney, features a lot of off-the-wall monster action in its various promotional materials but not nearly enough Julianne Moore as a villainous witch goddess named Mother Malkin. Well, here we are, answering your prayers with an exclusive scene from the movie (out this Friday). In this brief clip, Djimon Hounsou, playing Radu (a character not in the original novel), brings Mother Malkin a small troop of assassins, to rid the world of The Spook (Bridges) and his apprentice, Tom Ward (Barnes). One of these assassins, who have a cool, made-of-granite look to them, has the misfortune of attempting eye contact with Julianne Moore, with severe consequences. (Let it be known that this is not the case in real life; I made eye contact with Julianne Moore while out to dinner one time and she didn't murder me with her skeleton tail.) As you can tell, this movie is insane. And opening this week! Bring the giant monster you love. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
19 Perfect Jackie and Kelso Moments From 'That '70s Show' Posted: Back in 1998, "That '70s Show" introduced us to a match made in Wisconsin teenage heaven: Jackie Burkhart and Michael Kelso. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher played the clueless young couple on TV, and as you probably all know, went on to become superstars and even got together in real life. Mila's big fantasy adventure "Jupiter Ascending" heads to theaters this weekend, and Ashton happens to turn 37 on Saturday. Here's to a nice week for the happy pair! Let's look back at where it all began... Jackie and Kelso, we heart you always. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Jimmy Fallon Re-Creates 'Fresh Prince' Intro, With a Little Help Posted: "Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down. I'd like to take a minute, if that's OK, I'll tell you how I brought 'The Tonight Show' out to L.A." Jimmy Fallon is taping NBC's late night show in Los Angeles this week, and to celebrate the show's (brief) return to that city, he re-created the "Fresh Prince of Bel-air" intro, complete with graffiti, basketball, and taxi cab. Not only that, he got a little assist from "Fresh Prince" stars Alfonso Ribeiro and DJ Jazzy Jeff. When Fallon took over as host, he moved the show to New York City. So, it was a nice callback for his temporary stint at Universal Studios, especially since one of the guests on his first episode was former "Fresh Prince" star Will Smith. 'Jupiter Ascending' Review: An Impassioned Defense of the Wachowskis' Space Epic Posted: Sometimes a movie can be doomed before it even opens. This happens when a film is discussed openly without anyone having firsthand knowledge of (or even having seen) it, and it becomes something of a self-fulfilling prophecy when said movie come out and underperforms, thanks in large part to countless write-ups lacking reliable sources and built on foundations of hearsay and conjecture. Most of the time, these movies are rediscovered years later because, as it turns out, they weren't that bad after all. Right now, swarms of ill will seem to be circling "Jupiter Ascending," which opens Friday, due largely to a shift in its release date, from a coveted summer-of-2014 slot to a desolate winter 2015 position. Now that it's finally here, though, reviewers are sharpening their knives in anticipation. I am here to say that those knives are not necessary; "Jupiter Ascending" is actually a delightful space epic, full of devilishly clever action set pieces, rococo production design, some surprisingly touching moments, and niftily over-the-top performances. One of the most marvelous things about "Jupiter Ascending" is just how bizarre it is. The movie details the adventures of young Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), an illegal alien living in Chicago who makes a living scrubbing people's toilets. Elsewhere, in some far-flung corner of the universe, a royal dynasty is squabbling over who owns Earth, a planet rich in an essential ingredient utilized for outer space commerce. Soon it's discovered that Jupiter is a "recurrent," a genetic double for a once vaulted high queen (and rightful owner of the planet). Soon, everybody is after her, including a half-wolf bounty hunter named Caine Wise (Channing Tatum), a space police force, this crazy dinosaur guy, and all those squabbling royals (led by Eddie Redmayne). This is fairly standard science-fiction stuff, but the way that the Wachowskis ("The Matrix," "Bound," "Cloud Atlas") pull it off is absolutely, 100% theirs. When Jupiter initially encounters some outer-space visitors, she is in a women's health clinic having her eggs harvested so she can buy a telescope that reminds her of her murdered father (yes, there is a lengthy flashback to Soviet Russia, why wouldn't there be?), there is a whole section of the movie devoted to Jupiter obtaining her queenly status through bureaucratic paperwork (complete with a cameo from "Brazil" director Terry Gilliam), and, oh yeah, did you read that part about the crazy dinosaur guy? At its best, "Jupiter Ascending" is wonderfully, breathlessly alive. There are moments of genuine, awe-inspiring beauty and it's full of the beautiful world-building that made "The Matrix" films so transformative. The Wachowskis are incredibly earnest filmmakers, sometimes to a fault, and they believe in what they're doing so completely. It's infectious and so completely at odds with the cold cynicism of most Hollywood productions and adds to the buoyantly fun, Saturday-afternoon serial feeling of the film, reminiscent of everything from "Flash Gordon" to "Star Wars." You can tell that they've lovingly pored over every frame. That's not to say that the movie is perfect; there's way too much jargon and exposition, delivered in a way that is much harsher than anything in "The Matrix" films. Sometimes certain visual aspects look so similar that it's hard to tell them apart (spaceships, dinosaur men). And, occasionally, the film can get lost in the specifics of its loopy screenplay. But these are minor faults and didn't, for an instant, take me away from having a blast. For all of the screenplay's detail and complexity, the movie's best, most profound moments are also its simplest. There's a moment when, back on Earth, Jupiter is surrounded by a swarm of bees that respond to her in an elegant way, like Jupiter is conducting a symphony. Another moment juxtaposes a lavishly over-the-top wedding (with Kunis wearing one of the all-time most amazing cinematic wedding dresses) with an outer-space firefight. And then there's the Chicago chase, involving several spaceships and large sections of Chicago getting blown to smithereens. That chase feels new and revolutionary, like the first time you saw the "bullet time" effect in "The Matrix," and the wizards responsible for it (Industrial Light and Magic) should be paid a huge compliment for their tireless, hard work. When the studio announced that the scheduling shift was due to the complex nature of the visual effects, you can understand why. And this, of course, makes the fact that the critical community is already starting to pile on top of the film even more depressing. Recently, Lana Wachowski, one half of the directing duo, stated that when something is weird or different or off-center on television, it's celebrated for breaking from the proven formula. But when that is attempted in movies, it's condemned. And that's true, especially for the Wachowskis, who continually try to reinvent and top themselves, while working in a kind of social consciousness and thematic resonance, sometimes to disastrous financial results. And it's a shame to think of a movie so full of stunning images and crazy ideas and barbed wit suffering because it's hard to pin down on a tonal level, or because critics and journalists have somehow poisoned the well due to a smattering of half-whispered intelligence. "Jupiter Ascending" doesn't deserve to be dismissed; it's a genuine thrill, full of all sorts of things that you've never seen before and made by two uncompromisingly brilliant filmmakers who continue to push the boundaries of mainstream movies. Expand your universe, indeed. "Jupiter Ascending" is in theaters Friday, February 6. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Best of Late Night TV: Mean Tweets Music Edition, Michael Keaton's 'Birdman' Kid Theater (VIDEO) Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. "Birdman" star Michael Keaton was on "The Tonight Show" Monday night, and Jimmy Fallon said he wanted to see how good the Oscar nominee could be. So Michael and Jimmy re-enacted scenes from "Birdman" but not the real movie - a version written by school-children. The kids were just asked to write scenes for a movie called "Birdman." So watch them do some Kid Theater. Telling you, some of these "Birdman" scripts are gold. Keaton crushes it. Amazing. Jimmy Kimmel had another unmissable round of Mean Tweets, this time in a Music Edition read off by Josh Groban, Drake, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Blake Shelton, Haim, Wiz Khalifa, Ed Sheeran, Iggy Azalea, Pitbull, Sia, Childish Gambino, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Jason Aldean, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Katy Perry and Psy. Some of the tweets are genuinely mean (and gross!), but others are just laugh-out-loud funny. Rob Gronkowski was also on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and he read aloud from a fan's work of erotic fiction called "A Gronking to Remember." Apparently this is just Book 1 from this fan's series. His mom was in the audience hearing all of this. Hilarious! Eva Longoria was also on JKL and she explained her Super Bowl injury from her party. She was so worked up by the final play she fell on her friend and cut herself. Bob Costas was on "Conan," so of course he talked about both DeflateGate and the Super Bowl's final play. Bob joins the ranks of those who believe if the Seahawks had handed the ball to Marshawn Lynch, they'd be the Super Bowl champs right now. But Bob gave props to Malcolm Butler. And we're all sick of the deflated football talk, but Bob said DeflateGate was no big deal and mostly about the modern 24/7 news cycle. Eddie Redmayne was also on "Conan" and talked about his killer abs in "Jupiter Ascending." He plays a vain space tycoon so he worked out and got fit and it's only blink-and-miss in the film. So Conan got Eddie a gift -- a huge portrait of his character with the abs. They also discussed Eddie's freckles, which have helped him get roles, and it was noted that Eddie is actually a dead ringer for Jennifer Garner Affleck. There's video evidence from one of his early roles! John Oliver was on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" - and he's such a good watch. Always. He and Seth discussed the Super Bowl, Katy Perry's halftime show, and how much it hurts when your sports team loses. He really lost it when England lost to Germany during the World Cup. He's a Liverpool fan and he met the team, but it didn't go well. He saw them in the locker room and the entire team came out naked - "waving a handless hello" - and it changed his relationship with them. Ha! John obviously talked about "Last Week Tonight" and its new season. "Jungle" Jack Hanna was on "Late Show" with David Letterman and Dave got to hang out with an adorable "bush baby." The cutie sat on Dave's new hat and started jumping all over him. Apparently bush babies pee on themselves to wash themselves? They also brought a venomous cobra out. Poor guy didn't want to be there, and Dave wasn't very welcoming. Dave also addressed the big Super Bowl shocker and shared the "Top 10 Pete Carroll Excuses": Sean Hayes guest-hosted the "Late Late Show" and guest Marion Cotillard talked about the first guy she kissed on screen. Apparently it was bad. Really bad. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
