Recap of Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 19: There Will Be Blood

Posted:

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS -
We know this is mind-blowing information, but the characters in "Pretty Little Liars'" actually have lives beyond hanging out with their omnipresent sociopath stalker. Yep, Spencer Hastings, Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin and Emily Fields are in their senior year of High School -- which means college is just around the corner. Of course, it's slightly difficult to get excited about school when you're being harassed on a daily basis, which brings us to this week's recap, in which the little liars juggle college, family, their favorite deranged psycho, and their fleet of significant others -- one of whom used to stalk them (cough, Ezra, cough).

Mike Is More Evil Than Ever (Might Be A Vampire), Aria Makes A New Friend
Good news everyone: Rosewood is holding a blood drive, which is obviously a great opportunity for A to steal the liars' bodily fluids and plant them all over town. In fact, it appears as though Mike Montgomery -- who spends most of this episode shirtless and sweating -- is doing just that. Not only is this fellow in communication with a mysterious man named Hank, he's keeping tubes of blood in his mini fridge and the liars are getting suspicious -- especially after they find out Mike has $18k in the bank. Side note: where are Aria and Mike's parents? Do they have any idea that their kids troll around abandoned ponds at night? Someone call CPS.

Speaking of the Montgomerys, it's time to discuss Aria's future. This girl isn't exactly the most intelligent liar in the bunch, and unfortunately Savannah College of Art and Design will only accept her if she boosts her grades (which is something Ezra doesn't know due to the growing distance between them). Aria solicits the help of Spencer's friend Andrew Campbell after cheating off his test (that's right, Aria is a cheater, deal with it), but their study session gets cut short when Mike leaves the house with a wad of cash. You guessed it: Aria wants to follow him, and she needs Andrew to give her and Emily a ride.

Spencer Morphs Into Banksy, Hanna Confronts Her Dad
Spencer's been spending most of her waking hours avoiding her boyfriend Toby "Kindergarten Cop" Cavanaugh, and has become best friends with the weird hippie living in her tool shed. Naturally, she decides to ditch the whole "college thing" to paint a mural at Hollis with him, but said mural happens to be illegal -- something Spencer doesn't realize because she's too busy literally swooning in Jonny's arms. The next day, Spence is furious when she reads reports of vandalism at the school, and after yelling "I was arrested for murder" she storms off and decides to get her head back into the college game. What a relief, we were so worried.

Meanwhile, Hanna -- who's been accepted to every college ever -- gets turned down for financial aid and calls on her dad some quick cash. Unfortunately, Papa Marin refuses to help because he's too busy paying for his stepdaughter to go to Dartmouth, which makes him the worst parent of all time. The good news is that Ezra offers Hanna some words of wisdom (um, thanks?), and she's inspired to enter a beauty pageant with a $20k cash prize.

Also, if you're wondering how things with Ms. Marin are going, the answer is not good. Ashley tells Ted that she cheated on him, and now he's "thinking" about whether or not he still wants to marry her. Yikes.

A Sends Off A Text, Emily Discovers Talia's Secret
Wondering where Aria and Emily end up? At an insanely creepy biker bar (Andrew drops them off and ostensibly peaces out), where they see Mike hand off a package to "Hank" -- who turns out to be Cyrus Petrillo, aka Alison DiLaurentis' fake kidnapper! At this point Spencer shows up to lurk in the bushes with her friends, and the three of them get a text from A with a picture of their blood. Oh, and then they get chased down the street by Cyrus until Andrew shows up and rescues them with a baseball hat. All in all, just another fabulous night in Rosewood!

Finally, it's time for a relationship update with Emily and Talia. Emily seems pretty infatuated by her new love interest, but it turns out Talia is married. To a man. Something Em finds out from Ezra as he's tragically sitting alone in his abandoned bookshop. Apparently, Talia and her husband are no longer romantically in love, and he's fine with her dating women, so everything is all good! You know, minus the fact that this episode ends with A spreading drops of blood all over a piece of cloth while Mike lurks in Spencer's backyard. So maybe no "all good" after all.

Burning Questions
1. Is Mike really working for Alison? That seems nuts -- is it possible that he and Cyrus are actually working against her?
2. Mike's late night drop off last week got us thinking...is Mona still alive?!
3. Will Ashley Marin end up getting hitched to Ted, or will he reject her now that she's admitted to cheating?
4. Spencer and Jonny are getting pretty close. Is Toby history?
5. Aria and Ezra are lacking major chemistry? Is a breakup in our future? No seriously, do we have to change into a black mourning outfit, or?

'Portlandia' Renewed for Two More Quirky Seasons at IFC

Posted:

Portlandia
Good news, "Portlandia" fans: The show has been renewed for not one, but two additional seasons.

IFC made the announcement Tuesday, midway through the run of the cult comedy series's fifth season. The renewal means that "Portlandia" will be back for season six in 2016, and season seven in 2017, with each season running for 10 episodes.

"We are so excited to get to do more 'Portlandia' with IFC," said stars and co-creators Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein in a joint statement. "Getting to work with Jon and our talented writers and crew, it really is our favorite thing in the world. Also, we get to spend more time in Portland!"

"Portland may be a place where young people go to retire, but IFC is not retiring 'Portlandia,'" said IFC president Jennifer Caserta in a statement. "And if you order a book from Toni and Candace at the Feminist Bookstore right now, it might even arrive by the time season seven rolls around."

This isn't the first time that IFC has given "Portlandia" double-season orders: The network previously re-upped the show for two seasons back in 2013.

Catch the rest of season 5 of "Portlandia" on Thursdays at 10 p.m. on IFC.

Here's Your First Look at The Joker on 'Gotham' (VIDEO)

Posted:

Gotham, The Joker
"Gotham" executive producer Bruno Heller wasn't kidding when he hinted that The Joker would be appearing on "Gotham" soon: A first look at the iconic "Batman" villain is part of a teaser for the next episode of the Fox series.

In the clip, we're reminded that we've already met several high-profile baddies populating the city. But, "Gotham's next villain is no joke," the preview teases, cutting to a man being questioned by Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) who has quite the unhinged maniacal laugh.

Cinema Blend points out that that's actor Cameron Monaghan ("The Giver," "Vampire Academy," "Shameless"), who will most likely be playing a teenaged version of The Joker, in an effort to make the villain a similar age to the young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). His name is Jerome on the series, per the episode information available for the installment, the series's 16th, entitled "The Blind Fortune Teller."

Check out a short look at Jerome/The Joker below, and see his full appearance on "Gotham" on February 16 at 8 p.m.

The Best Oscar Speech One-Liners in Academy History

Posted:

The most memorable part of Oscar night isn't always who won what or who wore what, but who said what in their speech. A witty Oscar speech with a great line is sometimes better remembered than the movie that got the winner there in the first place.

Case in point: You might not have ever seen Warren Beatty's 1981 epic "Reds" but you've very likely heard the line by "Reds" supporting actress winner Maureen Stapleton who thanked "everybody I ever met in my entire life."

We salute all the Oscar-wining actors who manage to get through their speeches without swearing, fainting, or forgetting to thank their significant other, but we really appreciate the ones who make us laugh, even during the biggest moment of their life. Here are some of the most memorable Oscar "one-liners."best oscar speech one-liners

'Sinister Six' Delayed Following Sony & Marvel's Spider-Man Deal

Posted:

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise Of Electro' - Rome Premiere
Fanboys and -girls around the globe are no doubt still celebrating last night's surprising announcement that Sony and Marvel would partner to produce new Spider-Man films, and integrate the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But what does that mean for what was to be Sony's first "Amazing Spider-Man" spinoff, "Sinister Six"?

According to the Wall Street Journal, "Sinister Six" will remain in development at Sony, but it's been delayed indefinitely. WSJ writes that the studio is "rethinking" its plan for the flick, and it has been pulled from its initial release date of November 11, 2016.

While that's never a good sign for a movie, WSJ's report indicates that Sony still wants to move forward with the film, and so far, Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods") is still on board to write and direct. Still, not knowing when the movie may come out may cause some of "Sinister"'s high-profile cast members -- including Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Rhys Ifans, and Dane DeHaan -- to bolt from the project, putting it in even more uncertain waters.

Letting go of the flick might be in Sony's best interest, since one of the driving forces behind its agreement to the Marvel partnership was that the "Amazing Spider-Man" films under-performed; gathering together a group of lesser-known villains from that same universe into a different movie may not have worked out, either. Still, nothing is set in stone yet, and Marvel's production company is known for building hits around unlikely protagonists (see: "Guardians of the Galaxy").

Stay tuned.

'Fifty Shades of Buscemi' Is Irresistible

Posted:

Boardwalk EmpireHe commands money and influence. He's got women falling at his feet. And he looks damn good in a suit. That describes Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey" as much as it does Nucky Thompson in "Boardwalk Empire."

That's what makes this recut "Fifty Shades" trailer featuring Steve Buscemi so great. Buscemi slides seamlessly into the role of the sexy, wealthy BDSM master, thanks to takes of him from "Boardwalk," "Fargo," and "Billy Madison."

Now, why didn't anyone think of Buscemi for the part in the first place?

This 'McFarland, USA' Featurette Will Make Your Spirit Soar (EXCLUSIVE)

Posted:

Of all the movies opening in the next few weeks, "McFarland, USA" is one that is probably flying under most people's radar. But it shouldn't. It's a terrific Disney sports movie in the tradition of "Miracle" and last year's "Million Dollar Arm," dramatizing the inspirational true story of a California track team that defied the odds to become winners under the leadership of an out-of-his-comfort-zone coach (played by Kevin Costner). All of the reasons you should get excited about this movie are nicely enclosed in our exclusive featurette.
McFarland, USA - Clip No. 1 - Exclusive
The featurette, running at a brisk three minutes, details the original true story and features interviews with Costner, director Niki Caro, and the young actors who play the kids in the movie. (The footage from the film should also make you appreciate the absolutely stunning cinematography from Adam Arkapaw, who photographed "Top of the Lake.") Additionally, the featurette gives you some Latin heat courtesy of Colombian superstar Juanes, who wrote a new song for the movie (he just performed the same song on the Grammys on Sunday).

So sit back and watch this delightful featurette and be sure not to miss the movie when it opens on February 20th. It's the perfect heartwarming family treat to thaw you out on a cold, wintery day.

'Pitch Perfect 2' Trailer: Who Run the World? The Bellas!

Posted:

Pitch Perfect 2Girls rule, Europeans drool in the new trailer for "Pitch Perfect 2."

The latest video provides more glimpses at the follow-up to the a cappella hit than we saw in the movie's Super Bowl spot. The Bellas get suspended after Rebel Wilson accidentally reveals her "Down Under" while performing "Wrecking Ball" for the president of the United States.

Anna Kendrick and crew can earn a second chance -- only by winning the world championship. To do that, they have to get by a formidable European competitor in Das Sound Machine. And it seems like they call upon a higher being for a little help -- Her Beyness, Beyonce Knowles.

"Pitch Perfect 2" opens in theaters May 15.

The 2015 Oscar Nominees' Worst Movies Ever

Every 2015 Oscar nominee can bask in the fact that their best efforts are being recognized and rewarded. Bravo Benedict Cumberbatch! We applaud you, Patricia Arquette!

But, each of the 20 actors nominated this year have also made their share of unwatchable movies, films so awful you probably haven't even heard of them.

Whether they were doing a friend a favor, breaking into the business or they just needed the money, they inadvertently made some of the most horrible horror movies, anemic action flicks, and dreary dramas ever.oscar nominees worst movies

Best of Late Night TV: Jamie Dornan Plays 'Fifty Accents of Grey,' Eliminated 'Bachelor' Girl Speaks Out (VIDEO)

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Jamie Dornan of "Fifty Shades of Grey" was on "The Tonight Show" Monday night (charming guy, but not into the beard - not that anyone asked) and he and Jimmy Fallon played "Fifty Accents of Grey." They were given an accent (Scottish, French, Italian, Cowboy...) and had to read real passages from the book in the accent assigned. Somehow they managed to make "Fifty Shades" even more ridiculous, but it's not like anyone was confusing it with Proust. (Jamie's panties quote was said with a French accent.)

In the second video, Jamie discussed his interest in The Rat Pack and his love for Don Rickles. He has a signed photo of Don Rickles next to his bathtub, and Jimmy got a real kick out of that. Jimmy Kimmel loved last night's episode of "The Bachelor," which included two very dramatic eliminations. One of the girls Chris sent home, Ashley I. of the giant eyelash extensions, spoke out via video chat. When Kelsey told her, "I know what you did," it was one of the scariest moments of her life. She hasn't seen Kelsey in a while and next week they film "Women Tell All," so that should be interesting. When Chris sent her home, she cried a lot. She thinks Becca and Whitney are best for him, in case you care. Kelly Osbourne was on JKL, talking about Grammy fashions (she loved Rihanna's dress but she understands why people didn't). She also shared the story of how she got herself, Sia and Kathy Griffin kicked out of a Scarlett Johansson movie they went to see together. Bill O'Reilly was also on Jimmy's show, discussing his new book. Bill was a high school teacher who taught history so he aimed to write his history books in a fun, engaging way. Jimmy was struck when he learned about Hitler's flatulence. Stalin wasn't any better (not on the flatulence front, but still) and they discussed him too. Talking about the good guys is apparently boring. In the second video, Bill weighed in on the Brian Williams scandal. Steve Carell was on "Late Show with David Letterman" and he joked that, ever since the first day he arrived on set for "Anchorman," he knew he'd someday be an Oscar nominee. Watch the great story of how he learned he's nominated this year. In the second video, he not only discussed a bad early sitcom he was in, he read off a really rough review of his own performance. He brought the review with him to Letterman just for this purpose. It's quite a "horror" show, but apparently it keeps him humble. Steve said Stephen Colbert loved that bad review so much he tried to hire the writer for "The Colbert Report" - and the writer turned him down. SNL's Bobby Moynihan was on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and shared a Chris Christie story. Bobby got a photo with Christie when he - Bobby - was dressed as the Hulk. He wanted a pic in case Christie becomes president, so ... he has one as The Hulk. Timothy Olyphant talked about the end of "Justified." There are things he'll really miss - like the free haircuts. In six years, though, he said there were no real a-holes in the cast or crew. They had one or two d-bags, but no major a-holes. Conan met one of the d-bags, Timothy said. He was on the show. Patton Oswalt is the only one from "Justified" they've had on the show, Conan said. "Whoops," Timothy said. "That's my bad. Let's not tell him, guys." (Think he's kidding, but...) Tim also "reviewed" some major movies that he only watched in pieces on a plane. Funny. Wayne Brady is guest hosting "The Late Late Show" and he had Ross Mathews on Monday night to talk about Grammys fashions. Ross said he loves the Grammys because "everyone is so high." He had the best comment about Rihanna's dress - and it's possible you could use it to exfoliate.

Spider-Man Officially Joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe (UPDATED)

Posted:

Well this is awesome.

After weeks of speculation following a series of leaked Sony emails that disclosed that Marvel Studios (under the leadership of Kevin Feige) was talking to the entertainment giant about reacquiring the character after the dismal box office and critical performance of last summer's franchise nonstarter "Amazing Spider-Man 2," it's official: Spider-Man is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a late night message posted on Marvel.com (a bit of news so seismic it crashed the site), it was announced that Sony and Marvel Studios will be joining forces on the spectacular Spider-Man. The web-slinger will first make an appearance in an undisclosed Marvel movie before moving on to his own movie on July 28th, 2017. Feige will co-produce with recently ousted Sony chief Amy Pascal, who started the franchise with Sam Raimi's original trilogy 13 years ago, and Sony will continue to finance, distribute, own, and have final creative control over the character.

This will be a "new creative direction" for the character, so Andrew Garfield fans will be disappointed by this news, while everyone else should be jumping up and down and screaming hysterically. Not only will Spider-Man be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the partnership opens up the possibility for Marvel characters to appear in Spider-Man. Yes, this is huge news indeed.

The fact that the new stand alone Spider-Man is coming up so soon means that there's only real one possible Marvel movie that he could appear in - "Captain America: Civil War" (he wouldn't fit into the more mystical realms of "Doctor Strange" and "Thor: Rangarok" is scheduled to open the same day as the new Spider-Man movie, so we suspect that will be bumped). If you've read the "Civil War" storyline (authored by Mark Millar, who wrote the comic book that this week's excellent "Kingsman: The Secret Service"), you know that Spider-Man is a huge part of that narrative, so we are very jazzed at this revelation.

Well, who do you want to see as the new neighborhood Spider-Man?

UPDATE: In the wake of the Spider-Man news, Marvel as readjusted their release schedule for four upcoming titles (the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Doctor Strange" will stay on course). The new release dates follow. Also: Spider-Man will be in "Captain America: Civil War." This is a guarantee.

"Thor: Ragnarok" -- November 3, 2017
"Black Panther" -- July 6, 2018
"Captain Marvel" -- November 2, 2018
"Inhumans" -- July 12, 2019

(And yes it kind of sucks we have to wait even longer for Marvel's first female-led superhero movie.)
