Disney Plans to Make Marvel and 'Star Wars' Movies Forever

Posted: 26 Jan 2016 09:00 PM PST

There was a time when movie fans had to genuinely wonder when, if ever, they would see another Star Wars movie. There was a time when you could have a baby in the space between Marvel movies. That time has come and gone. And if it were up to Disney, that dark period wherein the big screen didn't have lightsabers or Iron Man suits will never, ever return. That's not exactly a bombshell. Those movies make boatloads of money and so of course a company is going to want to keep making them, but Disney CEO Bob Iger (pictured above) acknowledged the now infinite nature of these franchises directly when he told the BBC that Marvel "will go on forever" and that of course there will absolutely be more Star Wars movies beyond the four titles currently in production. So...

British Film Censors Had to Watch 10 Hours of Paint Drying to Give It a Rating

Posted: 26 Jan 2016 07:30 PM PST

We like to criticize the MPAA here in America, but in some ways they've got nothing on the British film censorship board, the BBFC. It's not that the BBFC is more controversial in their ratings -- though they did receive a lot of criticism last year for stamping Diary of a Teenage Girl an '18' ("suitable only for adults"), because the rating was seen as punishing of the depiction of female sexuality. The big difference for the two countries is that in the UK a film is legally obligated to be classified by the BBFC in order to be shown or sold. Yet films also still have to pay to be rated there, and that's a big extra cost for independent productions. Of course, the fee, which is determined by the length of the film, tends to average less than $1500...

The 'Little House on the Prairie' Movie Finds a New Home In Hollywood

Posted: 26 Jan 2016 06:00 PM PST

Four years ago Little House on the Prairie, the beloved book and television series about a simple family living a simple life in the old west, kicked off a new journey to the big screen. It got set up by power producer Scott Rudin (The Social Network, There Will Be Blood) at Sony Pictures with a script by Abi Morgan (Shame, Suffragette) and David Gordon Green (Your Highness, Pineapple Express) in the director's chair. However, like so many seeking fame and fortune in 19th century America, those dreams didn't pan out as expected. Maybe it got a rattlesnake bite. Maybe it got dysentery and died. Maybe we're mixing our Little House on the Prairie with too much of The Oregon Trail. The point is, that movie obviously never ended up happening. Little House on the...

Sundance Buzz: Watch the Stars of 'Sing Street' Perform Your New Favorite Songs

Posted: 26 Jan 2016 04:30 PM PST

One of the biggest crowd pleasers screening at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival is John Carney's Sing Street, about a kid from Dublin in 1985 who decides to start a band in order to woo his dream girl. One again, Carney (Once, Begin Again) delivers a deliciously sweet and funny movie that's stuffed with great music - and, in my opinion, his best music yet. Featuring music from Duran Duran, Genesis and The Cure -- not to mention several original songs, most notably the insanely catchy "Drive It Like You Stole It" and "Brown Shoes" -- Sing Street delivers a familiar coming-of-age story (boy falls for older girl with boyfriend) that's infused with memorable characters, a unique setting, adorable nostalgia and an immense amount of '80s...

Arnold Schwarzenegger Updates 'Conan' Sequel Plans

Posted: 26 Jan 2016 12:00 PM PST

In answer to the question, "What is best in life?," Conan the Barbarian answered in 1982: "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." Arnold Schwarzenegger's sincere though stolid delivery of that dialogue became iconic, reflecting his relative inexperience as an actor as well as the movie's macho, action-first aesthetic. The great John Milius directed the muscular action adventure and cowrote the screenplay with Oliver Stone. Discounting the little-seen Hercules in New York, It was the first starring role for former bodybuilding champion Schwarzenegger and proved to be a box office success, leading to  the sequel Conan the Destroyer two years later.   Schwarzenegger's career...
