'Pretty Little Liars' Season Premiere Recap: There's a New A in Town

Posted:

Please grab your hover board, because where we're going, we don't need roads. Welcome to a new era of "Pretty Little Lias," where the squad finally look their age and no one is being murdered. Haha, kidding: we already have one dead body and the season has barely started. Sigh, this show.

The liars might be older, wiser and trolling around some weird place called "Freeform," but they still haven't figured out how not to be terrorized by a hooded vigilante. With that in mind, catch up with Spencer, Aria, Emily and Hanna in our recap below — plus, find out which character is six feet under.

Checking in with the Little (Er, Big?) Liars

Hanna: PLL's most fashionable it-girl is working in fashion, and good news: she's engaged! The bad news? The lucky man's name isn't Caleb, because apparently they broke up, which means our lives are over. Time to take to the streets in protest / petition Obama, because this injustice will not stand.

Emily: Tragically, Emily is not in a good place. Despite telling friends that she's at the Salk Institute, Em's working at a bar and popping pills. Huh, thought that was Spencer's jam...

Aria: Naturally, Aria works for a publishing company, and get this: they represent Great American Author / Genius / Former Stalker, the one and only Ezra Fitz. The only good news to report is that Aria's no longer dating him. Give her time, people, give her time.

Spencer: First of all, Spencer has bangs. Second of all, she's helping her mom run for state senate. But most importantly, she's not dating Toby because he's busy being a policeman in a town populated almost entirely by murderers.

Oh, and Let's Check on Ezra, Because He's Still a Thing

If you're wondering about Ezra McGreatWriter Fitz, he returned from a recent trip to South America (???) due to "getting sick," and is super bummed because his girlfriend, Nicole, went missing. Apparently, she was abducted by "half baked revolutionaries?" It's all very confusing and unclear, but poor Ezra is now squatting above The Brew, sporting a scruffy goatee, and being generally full of ennui. How can Aria resist him?!

In Which Ali Has a Terrible Memory

There's a new teacher at Rosewood High, and her name is Alison DiLaurentis. That's right, the very same Alison who spent high school terrorizing her friends. What a great person to be influencing young minds! Alison's life seems pretty mellow, but apparently she longs for a family, and considering her only relative is A (aka Cece Drake, aka Charlotte DiLaurentis), it looks like she needs to bust her out of hospital. To which we say: has Ali never seen the show she's on?I?!?! This is the worst idea in the history of bad ideas.

Welcome to Rosewood -A 2.0!

Cece can't get out of hospital without the liars announcing that they no longer fear her, which naturally they do with the exception of Aria. Because, please, this is PLL we're dealing with here. Guess -A is a free woman!

The liars celebrate their terrible decision-making by getting drunk at Radley Sanitarium, which is now a fancy hotel, and the next morning? You guessed it: Cece is found dead outside a church in an apparent homicide. So was A murdered by A 2.0 (who may or may not be Sarah Harvey)? Guess we have all season to figure that out, but one thing's for sure: there ain't no funeral like a Pretty Little Liars funeral because a Pretty Little Liars funeral has completely inappropriate mourning attire.

P.S.: Guys, please pray for Toby. He seems to think he's Noah from The Notebook, and spends his time building houses and drinking beer while pining for Spencer. If you're a bird, Toby's a bird, Spence.

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Has 'Biggest Moments on TV Ever,' Says Emilia Clarke

Posted:

In case you weren't already excited for the spring debut of season six of "Game of Thrones," the Khaleesi herself is here to tell you that it's going to be better than you can possibly imagine.

That was the word from actress Emilia Clarke, who spoke with E! News at a Golden Globes party this weekend. When the network asked Clarke for some scoop about the upcoming "GOT" season, she admitted that she couldn't reveal anything specific about the plot -- but that didn't stop her from dropping an epic teaser.

"I really can't say much apart from that you'll see the biggest moments on television that have ever existed," Clarke told E!. You have our attention, Dany.

Would one of those moments involve, say, the return of Jon Snow, who bit the big one in season five? Clarke avoided answering a direct "alive or dead" question about Kit Harrington's character, but told E! of season six's twists, "It's just gonna be big."

We're definitely on board.

Season six of "Game of Thrones" premieres on April 24 on HBO.

These Jedi Disney Princesses Are 'Star Wars' Perfection

Posted:

It's become a popular internet pastime to re-imagine Disney princesses as other characters/ethnicities/genders/artworks, and for good reason: The artists behind them often produce some amazingly creative work. That's the case for the latest mashup, which combines Disney's newest property, "Star Wars," with some of its classic princesses, in a series that artist Tom Hodges has dubbed "Once upon a long time ago."

The series transforms our familiar heroines into Jedi knights, many of whom closely resemble Rey (Daisy Ridley), the newest star of the "Star Wars" universe in "The Force Awakens." (And depending on how you look at it, Rey could be considered a Disney princess in her own right.) Elaborate ballgowns and dresses are transformed into the Jedi's traditional robes, while some (like Aurora's familiar cape) have their existing outfits stylized a bit more to fit the theme. Each comes equipped with her own lightsaber, as well as a personalized Rebellion/Resistance emblem to complement her personality. (Snow White gets an apple, for example, while Belle's design bears a rose.)

We're especially fond of Merida's transformation, which includes a bow/lightsaber hybrid that perfectly suits the young archer. Jasmine also gets a pretty awesome weapon: a double-sided lightsaber, like Darth Maul's in the "Star Wars" prequels.

Check out some of our favorites below, and head over to Hodges's Facebook page for the rest. The designs will be available for purchase through Tee Fury, on shirts or a poster.

'Walking Dead's' Danai Gurira Joins Tupac Biopic 'All Eyez on Me'

Posted:

The ONE Campaign And (RED) Mark World AIDS Day And Celebrate 10 Years Of Progress With Concert At Carnegie Hall In New YorkThe upcoming Tupac biopic "All Eyez on Me" has been beefing up its cast in recent days, adding a "Walking Dead" fan favorite in a key role.

Danai Gurira, who plays sword-wielding survivor Michonne on the AMC zombie drama, will play Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother, in the flick. According to Deadline, Gurira will be stepping into the shoes of a "complex woman" who was a central figure in the rapper's life. "A political activist and member of the Black Panthers, Afeni raised her son to be a voracious reader with a political awareness that informed his development as a street poet," Deadline writes.

The real-life Afeni Shakur is serving as an executive producer on "All Eyez On Me," and has also been charged with managing her son's estate since his death in 1996. The biopic has been in the works for some time, but has finally begun production, and is currently shooting in Atlanta. Demetrius Shipp Jr. plays Tupac, and Benny Boom is directing.

Though Gurira has been entertaining TV fans for several seasons now on "The Walking Dead," she hasn't really crossed over into film, despite roles in flicks like "The Visitor" and "Mother of George." She's been busy working as a playwright recently, penning the drama "Eclipsed," which stars Lupita Nyong'o and is headed to Broadway in March. Gurira also has another play, "Familiar," in the works, which will make its off-Broadway debut in the coming months.

Ralph Fiennes Wishes It Were That Simple in New 'Hail, Caesar!' Trailer

Posted:

Hail CaesarWould that 'twere that simple? Ralph Fiennes certainly wishes that was the case in this new trailer for the Coen brothers' upcoming film, "Hail, Caesar!"

The trailer is more of an extended clip featuring Fiennes as a movie director trying to coach his country bumpkin star (Alden Ehrenreich) to say a line with the proper posh British accent. Fiennes grow increasingly annoyed as Ehrenreich tries desperately to form the words in the same way. The "show a clip" style of trailer seems to be coming back in vogue — the "Zootopia" one made us giggle, and this one was quite amusing, too. Hail, Caesar! - Trailer No. 2
"Hail, Caesar!" is set in the Golden Age of Hollywood, with Josh Brolin starring as a public relations "fixer." Then, he's called upon to round up cash to save kidnapped actor Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), and Coens-esque hijinks ensue.

Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Jonah Hill, and Frances McDormand also star. "Hail, Caesar!" opens in theaters February 5.

War Is Coming (Again) in 'The 100' Season 2 Trailer

Posted:

The 100Fire up the war drums for season 2 of "The 100."

As a new, extended trailer for The CW's post-apocalyptic drama shows, the fragile peace between the Grounders and Sky People is close to shattering. Not a surprise, since the two sides are fundamentally opposed, as the Sky People try to carve out a place to live and prosper, while the Grounders are keen to protect their stuff.

Whither Clarke (Eliza Taylor), the onetime leader who united the two groups to battle the common foe at Mount Weather? After the events of last season, she's still on her walkabout in the wilderness, though "everyone" is hunting for her, as Indra notes in the trailer.
She's not the only one who seems broken: Jasper is still heartbroken, Raven seems to be grappling with some problem, and Bellamy is trying to keep it all together. There's a glimpse of a hot new pairing, as well as a mysterious civilization with a tall tower at its center — the Grounders capital, perhaps?

Season 2 of "The 100" premieres January 21 at 9 p.m.

John Boyega Teases 'Much Darker' 'Star Wars: Episode VIII'

Posted:

Star Wars Force Awakens"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" isn't even close to done at romping all over the box office, but since we like shiny, new things, let's turn our attention to its followup, "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

It doesn't have a title, though it does have a director, Rian Johnson, who also wrote the script. And it seems "Episode VIII" will take a turn to the dark side.

"It's great. Much darker," John Boyega said of the the script in an interview with British Vogue. He noted that he and co-star Daisy Ridley are "very excited."

Not only that, but it seems his character, the former stormtrooper Finn, will be engaging in even more action in "Episode VIII."

"My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more," he teased.

Lightsaber training, perhaps?

Best of Late Night TV: Donald Trump's Job Interview and Morgan Freeman's Sexy Voice

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Let's start this thing off in the only way that's right: with Donald Trump's mock presidential interview on "The Tonight Show." Jimmy Fallon posed a few important questions to Trump to make sure he's up for the job, and his answers are worth watching. A taste of what's to come: "I'm an extraordinarily handsome person. I have a beautiful head of hair." Whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy.

As we all know, Jimmy Kimmel hates Matt Damon with every fiber of his being. It's a thing. So naturally, Jimmy had a lot to say when his arch nemesis won an award for "The Martian." In fact, he mused "Matt Damon won best actor despite the fact that he isn't really an actor," and, uh, recreated his acceptance speech. Zing!

Morgan Freeman visited "The Late Late Show!" Or rather, his voice over did. Listening to Freeman speak is a magical, ephemeral, and deeply poetic experience, as anyone who watched "March of the Penguins" knows, so please give this a watch. #Bless
