Full 'The World of Kanako' Trailer Practically Dares You To Not See This Movie

Posted: 28 Oct 2015 09:30 PM PDT

Update 10/28/15: Drafthouse Films has released a full trailer for The World of Kanako, which premiered on our parent site Fandango, and it's somehow even better than the teaser trailer. Anyone who can watch it and not want to see the final film has far more will power than me.   Previously: Watching this fantastic teaser trailer for The World of Kanako will tell you absolutely nothing about the plot of the movie. That doesn't really matter, though. It's got so much energy and chaos and personality that it's still going to land on your must-see radar. This is of course assuming you're a fan of eccentric Japanese movies that aren't afraid to get strange and bloody and yet still funny. That's a mix of things that is understandably not...

'Dirty Grandpa' Trailer: Zac Efron and Robert De Niro Get Freaky on Spring Break

Posted: 28 Oct 2015 08:00 PM PDT

Despite the similar titles, Dirty Grandpa is not a sequel to the recent hit Johnny Knoxville comedy Bad Grandpa, but the two movies do have one thing in common: They hope you like old people doing things that old people typically shouldn't be doing. In the case of Dirty Grandpa, that old person is Roberto De Niro.  Coming from I Give It a Year director Dan Mazer, Dirty Grandpa stars De Niro as an amorous old guy who tricks his grandson, played by Zac Efron, into taking him on a spring break road trip. Grandpa's wife recently passed away and so now he plans on really living it up with what time he has left, but the trouble is his grandson is a bit uptight about it all.  This first trailer is safe for work, but the same won't be said of the final movie...

Rihanna Goes Sci-Fi for 'The Fifth Element' Director

Posted: 28 Oct 2015 06:00 PM PDT

Rihanna is no stranger to the big screen, but she's certainly particular about what movies she'll appear in. The singer voices one of the main characters in Home and she's made brief appearances in This Is the End and Annie, but as far as face time goes, her biggest role to date has been in Battleship. That may soon change thanks to Luc Besson. The director of The Fifth Element announced Rihanna is in his next space epic, Valerian. Not only that, but he claims it's for "a big part!!" And yes, the double exclamation points are directly quoted from his announcement, so it would seem he's pretty excited about landing her in the movie. Valerian will actually be Besson's biggest movie to date. He's made ambitious sci-fi movies in the past...

'Don Verdean' Trailer: Get a Look at the New Comedy From the Creators of 'Napoleon Dynamite'

Posted: 28 Oct 2015 03:00 PM PDT

If Indiana Jones were living today -- and living at all, to begin with -- would he be battling evangelical ministers in pursuit of religious artifacts? Or maybe he would be working for one, like Don Verdean, an archeologist specializing in the Bible in the new comedy from the husband/wife team of Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). Sam Rockwell stars as the title character in the movie, somewhat unrecognizable (supposedly people on the set didn't know it was him) underneath a dirty blonde wig and beard. Joining Rockwell is a terrific ensemble of comedic actors. There's Oscar-nominated actress Amy Ryan as Verdean's assistant, Jemaine Clement as his Israeli friend and guide, Danny McBride as the pastor he works for, Leslie Bibb as the pastor's...

Chris Evans Is Out and Justin Theroux Is In for 'The Girl on the Train'

Posted: 28 Oct 2015 01:30 PM PDT

Justin Theroux (HBO's The Leftovers) is in negotiations to replace Chris Evans in The Girl on the Train, the highly-anticipated big-screen adaptation of Paula Hawkins' bestselling novel. According to THR, Theroux would take on the role of Tom, who is tied to all three of the leading ladies in the story. The novel is told in first person from the point of view of three different women (via Wikipedia). They are: Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt, from Sicario): An alcoholic experiencing tough times. Her ex-husband Tom (the role touted for Justin Theroux) left her a couple of years before the story begins for a woman named Anna. Anna (Rebecca Ferguson, from Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation): She carried on an affair with Tom until he left Rachel. Now she and Tom are...

Movie News: J.J. Abrams Explains "Missing" Luke Skywalker Mystery (Sorta)

Posted: 28 Oct 2015 12:00 PM PDT

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Where's Luke Skywalker? That question rang across social media when Mark Hamill's familiar face was (apparently) not seen in the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, though some have speculated that he's in an earlier teaser as a hooded figure (above). Director J.J. Abrams says "these are good questions to be asking. I can't wait for you to find out the answers," teasing it's "no accident' that Skywalker is missing from the footage that's been revealed so far. [Heat Vision]   Truth in Advertising: Ryan Reynolds is in final negotiations to star in Truth in Advertising. The movie is described as a comedy-drama about an ad man who begins to question his choice of profession after his boss...
