Hayden Panettiere Enters Treatment for Postpartum Depression

Posted:

66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsHer character, Juliette Barnes, on ABC drama "Nashville" has been suffering from postpartum depression, and now, actress Hayden Panettiere has revealed that she, too, is battling the condition.

A representative for Panettiere told People that the actress "is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression." The statement added, "She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time."

Panettiere gave birth to 10-month-old daughter Kaya Evodokia, who she shares with fiance Wladimir Klitschko, back in December 2014. In an appearance on "Live! With Kelly and Michael" last month, the new mom opened up about Juliette's struggles on "Nashville," and told the hosts, "I can very much relate."

"It's something a lot of women experience," Panettiere said at the time. "When [you're told] about postpartum depression you think it's 'I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child' - I've never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don't realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It's something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they're not alone, and that it does heal."

The actress added that she wanted to bring awareness to the condition, and help women who are dealing with PPD feel that they are taken seriously.

"It's really painful and it's really scary and women need a lot of support," she said.

Here's wishing Panettiere well in her recovery.

Donald Trump Will Host 'Saturday Night Live' on November 7

Posted:

Donald Trump Holds Campaign Rally In Las VegasTaran Killam, who portrays Donald Trump on "Saturday Night Live," may be in for an awkward day at work: Trump is set to host the late-night sketch show on November 7.

This will be the second time that Trump, who's been making all kinds of headlines -- and all kinds of enemies -- during his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination ahead of the 2016 election, will host "SNL." His first hosting stint came in 2004, during the height of his then-new show, "The Apprentice."

During that episode, Trump joked about how much money he made, and faced off with his impersonator at the time, Darrell Hammond. Hammond is still with "SNL" as the show's announcer (and also occasionally pops up to reprise his famous Bill Clinton impression); maybe he and Killam can team up for another sketch with The Donald?

The musical guest for Trump's episode will be Sia, who's also marking her second time appearing on the show.

Trump is the second 2016 presidential candidate to appear on this season of the show; Hillary Clinton stopped by during the season premiere and played a bartender opposite Kate McKinnon, who handles Hillary duties. We'll see if Trump can match Clinton's willingness to poke fun at herself.

'Grey's Anatomy' Taps Denzel Washington to Direct an Episode

Posted:

An Oscar winner will soon walk the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital: Denzel Washington is set to direct an upcoming episode of "Grey's Anatomy."

TVLine reports that Washington will helm the ninth episode of the show's current 12th season, and the installment will air during November sweeps. The details about Washington's episode are being kept under wraps for now, but it was written by Stacy McKee; shooting is expected to start later this month.

Washington has helmed two feature films in his long and celebrated career (2002's "Antwone Fisher" and 2007's "The Great Debaters"), but TVLine reports that this will be his first time tackling directing for television. Considering Washington already has two Oscars under his belt (Best Supporting Actor for 1989's "Glory" and Best Actor for 2001's "Training Day"), he could be gunning for EGOT status if he nabs an Emmy nomination for directing this episode.

According to TVLine, Washington most likely got the gig thanks to his longtime friendship with "Grey's" executive producer and director Debbie Allen. Regardless of why the Academy Award winner decided to work on the small screen, we're glad that he did; sweeps can't come soon enough.

Gabrielle Union Opens Up About Fertility Struggles: 'All Is Not Lost'

Posted:

Seen Around Spring 2016 New York Fashion Week: The Shows - Day 4Actress Gabrielle Union has shared some of her struggles with fertility in an effort to shed light on an issue that affects so many -- and has a message of hope for women in similar situations.

In an interview with Today, Union discussed her inability, so far, to have a baby with her husband, NBA star Dwayne Wade, who she married in August 2014. Despite trying to have children of her own for over a year (Union is step-mother to Wade's three children), the actress said that she wants other women to know that there is still reason for optimism, no matter how difficult things may seem.

"If you happen to have issues with fertility as you've gotten older and you happen to have a career, all is not lost," Union told Today. "There is so much hope, there are so many options, and you're not alone."

Union had said in an interview with Redbook last month that she and several of her friends have dealt with fertility issues, and that there is an unfair stigma of shame attached to that, especially when women focus on their careers instead of starting a family at a younger age.

"I think TV shows and films kind of make [out that] the frigid, single-focused career woman, that her career is the root of all problems in her life. That's just not the case," Union told Today. " ... Fertility is an issue, period. Having a career is not the price you pay for any ill."

For more of Union's inspiring words, check out her entire interview over at Today.

Leonardo DiCaprio to Produce Movie About Volkswagen Diesel Scandal

Posted:

Leonardo DiCaprio Announces Major New Climate Commitment In NYCNews about Volkswagen's deceptive diesel emissions broke only a few weeks ago, but Hollywood has already taken notice, and has fast-tracked a flick about the scandal. Now, one of the industry's hottest stars is set to produce the film.

According to Variety, Leonardo DiCaprio has just signed on to produce the as-yet-untitled project for Paramount Pictures, through his Appian Way company. It's unclear at this time if DiCaprio also intends to star in the movie, which so far does not have any actors or a director attached.

The flick will be based on a forthcoming book about the scandal written by New York Times journalist Jack Ewing. Variety reports that the book details how Volkswagen "placed illegal software in their clean diesel cars that could tell when a car was being tested for fuel emissions and would turn on the emissions control to cheat the test and meet EPA standards. During normal driving conditions, emission control software was shut off - resulting in as much as 40 times more pollution than allowed by law."

The scandal has already led to the resignation of Volkswagen's CEO, Martin Winterkorn. The company is also facing fines of up to $18 billion from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

This film is just the latest high-profile project for DiCaprio's company, which also produced his Oscar-nominated flick "The Wolf of Wall Street." There's been no word yet on a projected release date or production timetable; stay tuned.

Emilia Clarke Is Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive

Posted:

FASHION-FRANCE-DIOR-CELEBSIn its annual contest of who's hottest, Esquire has thrown its allegiance behind House Targaryen, and has declared Emilia Clarke its Sexiest Woman Alive for 2015.

Clarke, the star of HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones," joins some esteemed company on that list, whose ranks include past winners such as Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna, Mila Kunis, and Penelope Cruz. In an interview with the British bombshell, Esquire describes Clarke as a study in contrasts, which only amp up her sex appeal.

"She manages to bring together a number of opposites, to make them natural: sweetness and toughness, emotionalism with a kind of cold-blooded determination," the magazine writes of the actress. " ... Half pal, half dominatrix. Half kid sister, half sexy queen. The movie star who plays, in her real life, an anonymous, funny beauty. This is the gorgeous balance of Emilia Clarke."

Clarke didn't directly address the honor, though she did tell Esquire, "I'm trying everything I can not to be freaky" -- meaning she doesn't want "the star treatment go to her head," the magazine explains. Based on her warm, funny interview, we doubt it will, though we do think it's fair if she gloats a little bit; after all, the Mother of Dragons has earned her new title.

Quentin Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight' to Get Two Versions

Posted:

SiriusXM's Entertainment Weekly Radio Channel Broadcasts From Comic-Con 2015Quentin Tarantino has a penchant for perfectionism; after all, this is the filmmaker who famously declared that he would entirely scrap "The Hateful Eight" because an early version of its script leaked online. So it makes sense, then, that for the director's upcoming release of that flick, he's tweaking things yet again.

Tarantino, who had previously announced that "Hateful Eight" would also screen in the Ultra Panavision 70mm photography format at special roadshow screenings, told Variety that that version would also be slightly different from the one screening at regular multiplexes.

"The roadshow version has an overture and an intermission, and it will be three hours, two minutes," Tarantino explained to the trade. "The multiplex version is about six minutes shorter, not counting the intermission time, which is about 12 minutes."

The writer-director added that the two different versions weren't the result of studio meddling or runtime length concerns, but rather to give audiences at the 70mm screenings some small, special extras to distinguish that experience. As Tarantino explained, he didn't "want to treat the multiplex release like this left-handed version" of the movie; instead, "he tweaked certain scenes to better suit the separate viewing experiences," according to Variety, so that audiences watching later at home on cable, or perhaps on a mobile device, will still be able to enjoy the flick on those formats.

Per Variety:

The sequences in question play in "big, long, cool, unblinking takes" in the 70mm version, Tarantino said. "It was awesome in the bigness of 70, but sitting on your couch, maybe it's not so awesome. So I cut it up a little bit. It's a little less precious about itself."

For more from the director on his thought process -- and he has a lot of thoughts -- check out the entire interview over at Variety. "The Hateful Eight" will start its two-week roadshow run on December 25 in select cities; its wide digital release is planned for January 8, 2016.

Creepy New 'Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension' Footage Reveals Even Creepier Twist

Posted:

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension EXCLUSIVE - I See Brothers
We've all talked to our TV screens, but what if they talked back?

That's the question alarmingly raised in this clip from "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension," debuting exclusively on Moviefone. In the preview, brothers Ryan (Chris J. Murray) and Mike (Dan Gill) watch a 20-year-old video tape they found in the basement of Ryan's new home. In it, two girls -- Kristi and Katie (remember them from "Paranormal Activity 3"?) -- are seen being induced into a trance-like state, with the goal of making contact with the other side. But, as it turns out, "the other side" is the here and now. Pretty freaky.

"Ghost Dimension" marks the fifth -- and final -- installment of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise, and ties together elements of the first four movies, while serving up a whole new chapter.

Watch the creepy clip (and the trailer) and catch "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension" when it hits theaters everywhere October 23rd.paranormal activity the ghost dimension

'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Is a Musical Lover's TV Dream

Posted:

Within the first 15 minutes of The CW's newest series, the main character breaks into an elaborate musical number complete with backup dancers and a giant soft pretzel. Normally, a plot point like this would be met with cringes and a quick change of the channel, but in the case of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," the series in question, the whole thing, somehow, surprisingly works.

This is the magic of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." It finds a way to take things that would otherwise be uncomfortable and unsettling and makes them entertaining. Take, for example, the show's plot. Our heroine, Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom), a high-powered lawyer, moves from New York City to West Covina, California, after a chance encounter with her long-lost ex-boyfriend, Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III). The whole idea of a girl moving across the country for "love" (only to find out that "love" already has a girlfriend) isn't entirely new, but the way that the show plays it feels fresh. Rebecca isn't portrayed as a flighty, come-what-may gal with her head adorably in the clouds; she's portrayed a mildly unstable, slightly stalkerish woman with clear delusions of grandeur. This could get dark fast, but Bloom's performance keeps things lighthearted and fun with a dark undertone that stops it all from becoming too goofy.

Another thing that isn't goofy: the musical numbers. The pilot has two big ones and neither suffers from the artificial sound that plagued many of "Glee's" big (and way too obviously pre-recorded) numbers. When Rebecca breaks into song, it feels genuine and right. Maybe it's because we already know she's a little off her rocker, but it also has a lot to do with Bloom's Broadway-caliber voice and presence. None of it feels forced, something that many other television shows with musical numbers in them seem to have struggled with.

While Bloom understandably steals the show as the lead, the supporting cast is equally great. Darryl, Rebecca's new, slightly racist boss at a West Covina law firm, is played endearingly by Pete Gardner. Actual Broadway vets like Donna Lynne Champlin and Santino Fontana (also known as the voice of Hans in everyone's little sister's favorite movie, "Frozen") round out the cast, as Rebecca's new co-worker and Josh Chan's friend (and potential love interest for Rebecca), respectively. Fontana is particularly charming, which is no surprise given that he actually played Prince Charming in the most recent Broadway production of "Cinderella." Here's hoping there's a sweeping musical number in his character's future.

Much like its lead character, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" could easily go off the rails and fall into cheesy, overly campy territory, but if the pilot is any indicator, it doesn't seem likely. Between Bloom's clear talent and the show's overall heart, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" looks like it could be the next great comedy -- one that just happens to have a musical flair.

Jennifer Lawrence Speaks Out on Gender Pay Inequality in Hollywood

Posted:

26th Annual Producers Guild Of America Awards - Red CarpetJennifer Lawrence is joining the chorus of female actors criticizing the salary gap in Hollywood.

In an essay for Lena Dunham's Lenny Letter, the Oscar winner asks the question, "Why Do I Make Less Than My Male Co-Stars?" She brings up the report that she received a lower salary than Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jeremy Renner on the movie "American Hustle," which was leaked during the Sony email hack.

Lawrence didn't blame Sony or the movie's producers, but pointed the finger at herself for not negotiating harder.

"I would be lying if I didn't say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight," she writes. "I didn't want to seem 'difficult' or 'spoiled.'"

Lawrence joins actresses including Meryl Streep, Patricia Arquette, Geena Davis, Emma Watson, and Dunham in addressing sexism in Hollywood.

"I'm over trying to find the 'adorable' way to state my opinion and still be likable! Fuck that," she says. "I don't think I've ever worked for a man in charge who spent time contemplating what angle he should use to have his voice heard. It's just heard."

From "Batman v Superman" to "Captain America: Civil War," these are the six superhero movies we're excited to see next year.

Best of Late Night TV: Olivia Wilde's Actathalon and Kirsten Dunst's Weight Gain

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Gabrielle Union joined Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show," and promptly got down to business singing the morning announcements to a fake high school. Two things: one, she's actually really good at singing. And two, Jimmy Fallon needs to grow himself an actual mustache immediately.

Over on "Late Night," Olivia Wilde took part in Seth Meyer's Actathalon, which basically consisted of her doing an obstacle course full of cliche acting moments. The best part? Her screaming "WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYY" after finding out her pet fish died.
Over "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Kirsten Dunst chatted about "Fargo" - more specifically, how she had to gain weight for her role in the show. Turns out she ate "different cheeses and breads" to put on pounds. Living the dream, right?
