'Fear the Walking Dead' Broke Ratings Record, Season 2 Gets Weekly 'Talking Dead'

Posted:

It was only six episodes -- and not all of them were that great -- but "Fear the Walking Dead" Season 1 managed to make history as the highest-rated first season of any series on a cable network. "The Walking Dead" companion series ended its first season last week, but AMC is now done crunching its own numbers and just posted a press release bragging about the results.

As the network noted:

With its season one ending last Sunday, "Fear the Walking Dead" now stands as the highest-rated initial season of any series in cable history across total viewers and all key demos in live+3 ratings, which include three days of time shifted viewing. In its first season of six episodes, "Fear the Walking Dead" averaged 11.2 million viewers, 7.3 million adults 18-49 and 7.2 million adults 25-54 in live+3, with the season one finale on October 4th delivering 10.1 million viewers, 6.5 million adults 18-49 and 6.6 million adults 25-54 in live+3.

The main "Walking Dead" show kills those numbers now, as it starts Season 6 this Sunday, but it had a relatively slow start back in 2010, with its own six-episode debut, when it averaged around 5 million viewers a week. The Season 5 finale logged over 15 million viewers.

Slipped into the press release on the "Fear" numbers was the announcement that "Talking Dead" will be following each episode of "Fear" Season 2, which will air 15 episodes in 2016. AMC said the "Talking Dead" special that aired after the "Fear" Season 1 finale had 2.9 million viewers, 1.8 million adults 18-49 and 2.0 million adults 25-54 in live+3 ratings.

Here's a statement from AMC president Charlie Collier:

When we set out to launch a companion series to the #1 show on television, there were truly many things to fear, beyond 'Fear' itself. To see this show stand alone, break through and set records as a unique piece of storytelling is very gratifying and a tribute to great creative talent. We're grateful to Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson, the terrific executive producers, the cast and crew for a first season that was successful on so many levels. Here's to season two and the weekly addition of 'Talking Dead' led by the incomparable Chris Hardwick. Of course, biggest thanks to the fans who have joined us on the 'Fear' journey - first by land and, next, if Abigail is to be believed, by sea."

What did you think of "Fear" Season 1? Are you glad that "Talking Dead" will return full-time in Season 2?

Natalie Dormer Reveals Bullying Over 'Pig Nostrils' After Muppet Comparison

Posted:

At least she wasn't compared to Gonzo... "Game of Thrones" star Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) just joined a couple of co-stars at New York Comic-Con to not talk much about GoT Season 6. At one point, Dormer was asked if she knew that some people were comparing her Kermit's new girlfriend, Denise the Pig, from ABC's "The Muppets."

Dormer laughed, Entertainment Weekly reported, and said that may have happened because of her own GoT dialogue request:

There's a scene in Season 3 where I'm walking on all the cliffs with Sansa, and I'm telling her how I was teased as a young girl for my nose. I asked in a dinner with [showrunners] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss], 'Please, can you put in a line about a pig nose? I was bullied at school, I used to get told I had pig nostrils. I said for my own demons, it would be sticking two middle fingers up to the bullies of my childhood. If you watch the DVDs, you'll see me oinking backstage. When I saw that Kermit had a new girlfriend, I thought I might be responsible for that. I brought up the pig subject myself."

She's so beautiful! How could anyone really compare her to a pig? The Denise comparisons were probably meant to be compliments about their striking wide-set eyes and somewhat similar hair. But it just goes to show that mean people will target anyone for any perceived flaw even if their target is actually the flawless queen of Westeros.

Watch Robin Williams as Genie in Newly Released 'Aladdin' Outtakes

Posted:

We ain't never had a friend like Robin Williams, and the loss is re-emphasized in never-before-seen outtakes from "Aladdin." Members of the 1992 Disney movie's cast and crew were on "Good Morning America" today to promote the digital re-release, and shared a preview of the previously unreleased Williams footage:

Watch the full GMA video here, for more clips of Williams as the Genie and interviews with the cast and producers. It's never enough!

"Aside from him being funny as anything, he was such a warm, person," supervising animator Eric Goldberg told GMA. "He was the Genie, he was bigger than life," said John Musker, "Aladdin" co-writer/director, noting that they wrote the part of the Genie with Robin in mind. "We didn't know if he would do it. And fortunately for us, he did. We were totally walking down the plank. If he said no, we were going to be in big trouble because the whole concept was built around Robin." Ron Clements, co-writer/director added, "Fortunately he agreed to do it, and he worked so hard. We would record in four-hour sessions. He would be going four hours straight. We would have practically four hours of recording and by the end he was just drenched. He would have so much energy and so much passion."

Robin Williams took his own life last year -- on August 11, 2014 -- and we will never be over it. "Aladdin" was released last week on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere. The "Aladdin: Diamond Edition" Blu-Ray combo is coming out on Tuesday.

CBS Cancels 'Extant,' But Announces New Halle Berry Show

Posted:

CBS still wants to work with Halle Berry, it just doesn't want to work with her on "Extant." (Same.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Extant" has officially been canceled after two seasons. However, in the same breath, they added that a legal drama executive produced by Berry has been put in development at CBS.

The show is called "Legalease," THR explained. It's about a biracial lawyer from Chicago who follows a case to New Orleans, where she finds herself partnering with a good ole boy (white) attorney while working in a justice system that will ultimately expose the biases of society. Will Halle Berry play the lead? They said it's not the plan at this point to have her play an on-screen role in the drama (why the heck not?!), she just plans to produce. But the show is part of her two-year overall deal with CBSTVS, which she signed when she said yes to "Extant."

Here are some statements from Berry and The Powers That Be on the end of "Extant" and beginning of what they have to hope is a longer-lasting project:

CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller:

CBS, Halle Berry and the producers have decided to conclude the Extant story after last season's exciting and fitting conclusion. Extant played an important role in expanding CBS' lineup of original scripted programming in the summer. We are proud of the show's success on the network, as well as its popularity on Amazon Prime Video. We also want to thank the incomparable Halle Berry for her commitment and support for the series, and look forward to working with her on our next project together."

Halle Berry:

I am so proud of what we accomplished on Extant. This season seemed such a natural place to end Molly's journey that I, along with CBS, felt it best served the story to leave it there. I've loved this experience working with such a talented cast and creative team. It was my first foray into episodic television, and I'm excited to continue my relationship with CBS, producing more compelling stories through my 606 Films production banner."

Are you surprised or upset to see the end of "Extant"? What do you think of this new show idea, and should Halle Berry have an on-screen role?

See New 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' Photo of Ben Affleck and Batmobile

Posted:

Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adaptive Studios And HBO Present The Project Greenlight Season 4 Winning Film Why so serious(ly badass), Batman? Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader stands in front of his sweet ride in a new photo from "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The image was shared on Twitter by photographer Clay Enos, who bowed to fan requests and was duly thanked for his time. Here's the pic:

Director Zack Snyder recently said there will be more of Ben Affleck's Batman in "Dawn of Justice" than Henry Cavill's Superman, despite their shared billing in the title. As he noted, this is a different Batman than the one played by Christian Bale in the Christopher Nolan movies, so he needs a bit of explaining and context. Plus, Cavill's Superman just had his own standalone movie, so he can take some steps back. He can't step out of the movie, but expect to see and hear more from the guy above.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled for release March 25, 2016, co-starring Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, and Tao Okamoto.

Here's the First Teaser for 'The Lion King' Sequel, 'The Lion Guard'

Posted:

THE LION GUARD - The epic storytelling of Disney's "It is time!" Disney makes the announcement in its new teaser for "The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar," the "Lion King" sequel coming to the Disney Channel on Sunday, November 22. The movie event will lead into "The Lion Guard" TV series, which will premiere in early 2016.

"The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar" introduces Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, who is destined to become leader of the Lion Guard. The Lion Guard is like the African savanna's version of The Avengers, a team of animals made up of the Pride Lands' fiercest, bravest, fastest, strongest and keenest of sight. As Kion looks to assemble new members, he doesn't call upon a group of lions to serve with him as tradition dictates, but instead chooses some of his friends whom he believes best exemplify these heroic qualities -- Bunga, a fearless honey badger; Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a friendly and good-spirited hippo; and Ono, an intellectual egret.

Here's Disney's new teaser:

Throughout the movie, and TV series to follow, the team of young animals will learn how to use their unique abilities to solve problems, protect the Pride Lands, and maintain balance within the Ciiiiiiircle of Liiiiiiiiife.

Many of the characters from "The Lion King" will appear in the movie, including Mufasa and Pumbaa, voiced by James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella, who are returning to their original roles. Rob Lowe ("The Grinder") and Gabrielle Union ("Being Mary Jane") star as Simba and Nala; Max Charles ("The Strain") as Kion; Joshua Rush ("The Adventures of Puss in Boots") as Bunga; Atticus Shaffer ("The Middle") as Ono; Diamond White ("Sofia the First") as Fuli; and Dusan Brown ("Blaze and the Monster Machines") as Beshte.

An extended trailer for the movie will debut next Friday, October 16. Are you ready to hear Simba's son roar?

Jimmy Fallon Responds to Criticism That He's a 'Kiss Ass' to Guests

Posted:

Ariana Grande Visits Jimmy Fallon is like a puppy sometimes, in good and not-so-good ways. As host of "The Tonight Show" he loves his guests no matter what they say and do, laughing (too hard?) at their comments, gushing over everything they've ever done, and stroking their egos to make them comfortable enough to open up in interviews and be willing to play those silly, hilarious games. It's definitely working for him, since the biggest names sign up to do the craziest things for him, knowing he'll create a safe place for them to feel welcome and not judged. On the flip side, some critics have called him out for basically being a coddling ad space. He can drool too much.

During a new SiriusXM interview with Bill Carter, Carter asked Fallon to respond to the criticism that he's too "soft" on guests and, frankly, a "kiss ass" who loves everybody.

Fallon said "I do!" when told he seems like he loves everybody. Carter noted that he's probably never going to get into some deep issue, even talking to politicians, since his show is just meant to be fun.

"That's not my job," Fallon said. "It's not 'Meet the Press.' I'm not 'Face the Nation.' You can watch those shows and see that. My job is, again, is to make everyone look good, no matter who it is, whether you're a politician or whatever it is. We have people on that people don't like. I know that. But that's not my job. You make your own opinion. I can just show you the best person that they are and try to bring out their more personal side and play with them."

Just recently, he had Ariana Grande doing some Musical Impressions, and he had Jeb Bush slow jamming the news, among other not always adored people. The "Tonight Show" is just light, easy entertainment aimed at the widest possible audience. But seriously, Jimmy, maybe tone down the fake laugh a little bit?

Ellen Pompeo Calls Out Daniel Craig in the Most Random Celeb 'Feud' Ever

Posted:

Celebration Of ABC's TGIT Line-up Presented By Toyota And Co-hosted By ABC And Time Inc.'s Entertainment Weekly, Essence And PeoCelebrities love to call each other out on Twitter, and we can't help but watch the feuding. But the latest example of an online spat (if you could even call it that) between famous people has us scratching our heads over its randomness.

Ellen Pompeo, a.k.a. Meredith Grey, has fired (some pretty tame) shots at Daniel Craig, of all people. Pompeo was responding to Craig's recent remarks about how he'd rather kill himself than play James Bond again, and was apparently appalled.

Pompeo took to Twitter to say so, posting, "This dude needs a reality check" on an article about Craig's comments.
Pompeo later backtracked on that a bit, though. Responding to a fan comment about how the media tends to twist famous people's words, Pompeo agreed, and said that it's happened to her before, too. (Though for the record, Craig's exact words were, "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists," when asked if he'd play 007 again. So there's that.)
So what does this all mean? Is Craig going to reply with a snarky comment about Pompeo's 12th season playing the same character on "Grey's Anatomy"? Vanity Fair suggests that Pompeo's potential insecurity about that could indeed have played a part in her (rather mild, really) Twitter outburst.

The world may never know. But at least we can always look back on this date and remember The Most Random "Feud" Ever. At least until another one comes along, anyway -- Twitter is always updating, after all.

Here's the Star-Studded First 'Hail Caesar!' Trailer

Posted:

hail caesar, hail caesar trailer, channing tatum, coen brothersThe first trailer for "Hail Caesar!," the latest offering from the Coen Brothers, is here, and is stuffed with enough stars to make you dizzy.

The flick is meta from the get-go, focusing on a movie studio making a big-budget spectacle called -- you guessed it -- "Hail Caesar!" The film-within-the-film is led by the biggest movie star in the world, Baird Whitlock, played by -- you guessed it -- the actual biggest movie star in the world, George Clooney.

With Whitlock on board for the epic in size, scope, and budget "Caesar!," the studio stands to make big bank -- that is, until Whitlock is kidnapped by a mysterious group that calls itself The Future, right in the midst of shooting. The studio needs to cover up its star's disappearance to avoid negative press, while also desperately searching for the man, who wakes up dazed and confused -- and still wearing his gladiator costume -- in a stranger's home.

"Hail Caesar!" is a veritable who's who of Hollywood, including Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton, among many, many others. And based on this trailer, it seems like classic Coen cinema: funny with an edge.

"Hail Caesar!" is due in theaters on February 5, 2016.

7 Most Gruesome 'The Walking Dead' Deaths, Ranked

Posted:

Blood and guts are the bread and butter of "The Walking Dead." There's no such thing as too gory for the hit AMC zombie drama, which has given us hundreds of maimed limbs, scores of gunshots to the head, and heaps of rotted walker corpses over five seasons.

"The Walking Dead" delights in grisly and gross zombie kills (and so do we). But some of the human deaths - people with names - have ranked among the most horrendous of all. That's often because those people are highly aware of what's about to happen to them, and it's terrifying and torturous.

With Season 6 nearly upon us, we look back at the 7 most gruesome deaths in "The Walking Dead."

7. Gareth
RIP: Season 5, Episode 3

It would've been fitting if the cannibalistic Terminus leader had been eaten himself (by humans or zombies). Instead, he gets a deadly dose of justice at the hands of Rick. And not just a single dose, either - Rick hacks his head repeatedly with a machete, as blood spurts all over the place.

6. Aiden
RIP: Season 5, Episode 14

As we've seen time and time again on "The Walking Dead," as soon as someone gets too cocky about knowing it all - bam! Zombie meat. That's what happened to Aiden, who was supposed to be teaching Glenn and the Alexandria newcomers how to make a supply run. Yet, he made the fatal mistake of shooting at a walker in riot gear. A grenade exploded, and the blast impaled Aiden on a wall. Though Glenn tried to get him down, zombies arrived too quickly. Aiden was left to watch himself get eaten alive.

5. Tyreese
RIP: Season 5, Episode 9

Big, strong Tyreese seemed invincible - even after he swore off violence. While searching a Virginia compound for survivors, Tyreese was bitten in the arm by Noah's twin brother. He started to hallucinate visions of the dead, including Bob, Beth, and the Governor. He was bitten again by another zombie before Michonne arrived to hack off his arm. Bleeding heavily, Tyreese managed to get to safety - but it was too late. Michonne had to put him down.

4. Lori
RIP: Season 3, Episode 4

If you still haven't seen this scene without your fingers over your eyes, join the club. It was a heartbreaking, tragic moment, as Lori knew she had to give birth via C-section - and that it would kill her. With the prison overrun by walkers, there was no other choice but for Maggie to slice Lori's belly open with a knife. The baby was saved, but Lori began to bleed out. A devastated Carl said goodbye to his mother, and gave her one last, parting gift - a shot to the head.

3. Merle
RIP: Season 3, Episode 15

Merle made us believe, for a moment, that maybe bad guys don't get what they deserve on "The Walking Dead." He somehow managed to survive after Rick handcuffed him on the roof in season 1, and reappeared in season 3 as one of the Governor's henchmen. The sour, mean, SOB seemed destined to ruin everyone's day, especially brother Daryl's. But Merle turned against the Governor, and got shot for it in return. He reanimated as a zombie, and his little bro had to put him down by stabbing him - over and over again - in the face.

2. Dale
RIP: Season 2, Episode 11

This one was hard to stomach. Good ol' dependable Dale wasn't the strongest, toughest, or smartest guy in the group, but he knew better to let a walker live. No, that stupidity belonged to Carl, who kept a zombie alive to taunt it. That action came back to bite not Carl, but Dale, as the zombie disemboweled him - as he watched! A horrified Rick desperately begged Hershel to operate on him, but it was too late. Daryl did what Rick was unable to do - put Dale out of his misery.

1. Noah
RIP: Season 5, Episode 14

Deaths on "The Walking Dead" - human and zombie, both - have gotten more gruesome as the seasons have passed, so it's no surprise that No. 1 on this list is a recent one. Noah wasn't on the show for long, but he made a strong impression as the likable kid who befriended Beth at the hospital. He was saved not once, but twice (by Beth, then Tyreese), but third time wasn't the charm during a supply run. Noah, Glenn, and Nicholas were trapped in a revolving door, surrounded by zombies. When the cowardly Nicholas slipped out, that left room for the walkers to grab Noah's leg and drag him to a bloody, scream-filled eath. Even Glenn, hardened after seeing so many friends fall, couldn't stand to watch.

Lily James Kills in First 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' Trailer

Posted:

pride and prejudice and zombies, lily jamesDon't be fooled by the opening of the first trailer for Jane Austen spoof "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." Though it looks every bit like a straight adaptation of the beloved classic, it quickly finds its humorous bite -- along with plenty of zombie bites, too.

"To succeed in polite society, a young woman must be many things: kind, well-read, and accomplished," narrates Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James). "But to survive in the world as we know it, she'll need other qualities."

Those qualities include the ability to fend off hordes of the creatures, who have invaded the English countryside and beset themselves upon the Bennets and their friends. Friendly faces are replaced by rotting ones, who aren't exactly subtle in their quest to feast on the flesh of our comely heroine and her sisters.

Unfortunately for them, though, the Bennet girls are more than ready to fight back, making for some fun action sequences. It's all a bit rushed, but we expect to see more when a full trailer is released.

Enjoy the fun below. "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" is due to invade theaters on February 5, 2016.

You Need to Watch Neil Patrick Harris's Adorable Twins Sing

Posted:

World Premiere of Does your morning routine include humming the "Star Wars" theme and singing a tune from "Singin' in the Rain" and an original ode to "My Little Pony"? If not, you might want to reassess your priorities.

Neil Patrick Harris proved that that's the only way to start your day, especially when his adorable 4-year-old twins, Harper and Gideon, are the ones making music and just generally being too cute to handle. Harris shared on Facebook a clip of his family's prep for preschool this week, which included lots of singing and smiling as Harper and Gideon munched on their breakfasts.

Gideon kicked things off with "Star Wars" before Harris cut to Harper, who seems to be following in her famous dad's footsteps, if her love of the camera -- and request to sing not one but two songs -- is any indication. Gideon also holds his own, though, saving a special message for Harris's Facebook followers: "Hi Bookface!"

But perhaps the real MVP of the video is Harris's husband, David Burtka, who makes a cameo near the end of the clip clutching a mug and looking a little bleary-eyed in comparison to the rest of his family.

"I need more coffee," Burtka says as his kids clamor for more camera time.

Check out the hilarious and heartwarming video below.

Good morning, everybody!

'Sons of Anarchy' Star Ron Perlman Joins 'Fantastic Beasts'

Posted:

Amazon Video's 67th Primetime Emmy CelebrationActor Ron Perlman is making the switch from a Son of Anarchy to a goblin: Perlman has reportedly joined "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Perlman has just signed on to the production. Though there were no plot details divulged -- they've been harder to crack than a Gringotts vault -- sources tell the trade that Perlman will play a goblin in the flick.

Perlman recently starred for several years on FX motorcycle drama "Sons of Anarchy," but has spent plenty of time in the fantasy realm, too. He led the "Hellboy" movie franchise, based on the comic series, also starred as the titular creature in the TV show "Beauty and the Beast" from 1987 through 1990.

That experience should come in handy in "Beasts," which stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who studies magical creatures of the wizarding world, and writes the titular textbook, which is later used by Harry and his pals at Hogwarts. The flick also stars Colin Farrell, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, and Samantha Morton; Jon Voight, Gemma Chan, and Carmen Ejogo were also all recently cast.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is due to cast a spell on moviegoers on November 18, 2016.

11 YA Authors Reveal the Books They Want to See Made into Movies

Posted:

Now that the adaptation of James Dashner's "The Scorch Trials" is two-thirds done, and the final installments of "The Hunger Games" and "Divergent" are coming, it's time to think about which young-adult books will translate well to the big screen.

And we're not just going to list the obvious, like name all of John Green's books (although "Looking for Alaska" is already in pre-production). We're going straight to the source - fellow young adult authors, many of whom have their own titles optioned and in the works.

Here are 14 YA and children's authors' picks for the books they wish would get green lit.

1. Gayle Forman, author of "If I Stay"
"I would love to see Matt de la Peña's 'The Living' turned into a film. It follows a young man, named Shy, who works as a towel boy on a cruise ship that's sunk by a tsunami. The book and film would cross genres. There are elements of endurance-adventure a la 'Unbroken' (lost at sea, on raft, sharks!). Then there's this whole weird, mysterious 'Lost' thing happening when they get to this strange island. Plus romance. And of course Shy is a classic de la Peña character: macho and vulnerable, grappling with issues of race and class is surprising ways. 'The Living' would make such a smart, gripping, adventure film. Plus there's a sequel, 'The Hunted.'"

2. Sarah Dessen, author of "Saint Anything"

"One YA book I'd love to see hit the screen is E. Lockhart's 'We Were Liars.' It's set during the summer at the beach, [it] involves family, love and friendships and has a twist you'll never see coming. Just the kind of movie I'd want to enjoy with popcorn on a hot July day!"

3. Carrie Ryan, author of "Daughter of Deep Silence"

"Holly Black's 'White Cat.' It's such a smart world, but also it's about a con. I think cons are so hard to write, because they have to be so smart - and hers are brilliant. It would be amazing to see those characters come to life."

4. Aisha Saeed, author of "Written in the Stars"
"I would love to see 'Simon vs. The Homo Sapien Agenda' by Becky Albertalli made into a movie because not only does it have a ton of heart, it is also a modern teenage twist on one of my favorite movies of all time, 'You've Got Mail.'

5. Anna Banks, author of "Joyride"

"Couldn't we pretty please have 'Sweet' by Emmy Laybourne turned into a movie? It's a romance-thriller-comedy-horror-coming of age story. A little something for everybody!"

6. Kristy Shen, co-author of "Little Miss Evil"

"'Tiny Pretty Things' by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Charaipotra. It's 'Pretty Little Liars' in a tutu, and it was a terrifying/fascinating glimpse into the cut-throat, pressure-cooker world of ballet. Based on the authors' real-life experiences teaching at a New York ballet school, I was blown away by the insanity that each of these girls goes through -- and the intense pressure to succeed at all costs. Highly recommend."

7. Jessica Brody, author of the "Unremembered" trilogy

"I think 'Free to Fall' by Lauren Miller would make such an amazing film. It's so topical and poignant. An app that makes all of our decisions for us? Sometimes I feel like we are there already!"

8. Karen Sandler, author of the "Tankborn" trilogy

"Joseph Bruchac's 'Killer of Enemies' has a high-concept premise that's tailor-made for Hollywood: Apache teen Lozen must hunt and kill ravaging GMO monsters after The Cloud destroys all the world's tech."

9. Miranda Paul, author of "Water Is Water"
"Lyn Miller-Lachmann's 'Rogue' or Ellen Oh's 'Prophecy' series on the big screen! They're both very different, but I like 'Rogue,' because it's got skateboarding and filmmaking and explores the difficulties that come along with making friends in junior high. 'Prophecy' would make for some pretty cool cinematography and action scenes."

10. Peter Kujawinski, co-author, "Nightfall"

"I'll fall for any movie that has compelling characters and an epic scale, so I can't wait to see what Hollywood can do with Sabaa Tahir's 'An Ember in the Ashes.' I also love films that evoke a specific time and place - and for that reason I hope Ruta Sepetys' book about 1950s New Orleans, 'Out of the Easy,' gets on the big screen soon..."

11. Stacey Lee, author of "Under a Painted Sky"

"Anne Ursu's 'The Real Boy,' because I want to know what wizard trees look like, and Mike Jung's 'Geeks, Girls, and Secret Identities,' because he already has Hudson Yang interested in the part of his main character and he would be perfect."

Best of Late Night TV: Brie Larson's Whisper Challenge and James Corden's NFL Invasion

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Let's kick things off with a classic "Tonight Show" game: The Whisper Challenge! The contenders? Jimmy Fallon (obviously) and Brie Larson, who had to guess what each other were saying while whispering and wearing headphones. Our favorite moment by far was when Jimmy Fallon guessed "straight justice" for "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon." Fail.

In slightly off-topic news, Lena Dunham told the world that she got a urinary tract infection in Japan. She had a lot of thoughts on the topic, and uttered the immortal sentence "This is the best place I've ever had a UTI." Good to know.

In case you hadn't heard, Jimmy Kimmel is a small claims judge now (move over, Judy), and he presided over a super-dramatic case called "The Little Engine That Couldn't." It was basically the most amazing thing that's ever happened.

Over on "The Late Show," Stephen Colbert dubbed Cate Blanchett the queen of "Barely Keeping Her S--t Together" and made her perform a high intensity script that he wrote. Also, said script was based off an Amazon order about a blender.

James Cordon infiltrated the NFL and a) was hilarious, b) said that football should be renamed "Throwing In Between Commercials," and c) wore a tiny tie. Everyone needs to watch.

Best for last: Aaron Sorkin stopped by Conan and talked about his feud with Tim Cook, and things got awkward. Apparently, Sorkin apologized and is hoping everything's chill, but we're sensing some underlying tension. Let's just say if Sorkin gets hacked, he'll know who did it....

Recap of 'The Blacklist' Season 3 Episode 2: Tom Is Back!

Posted:

Last time we checked in on "The Blacklist," Liz Keen had box-dyed her hair a freakishly gorgeous shade of blonde (seriously, what is this dye she's using?), and was chilling at the Russian embassy - because lest you forget she's identifying as a FSB agent these days. So, did everyone's favorite FBI profiler make it to the Mother Land? Not so much. Keep reading to find out what happened to Liz, plus details on Tom Keen's return from the beyond. (He's baa-aaaack!)

Liz Joins Team Russia, Promptly Re-Joins Team USA
So, Liz's plan completely fails the moment she crosses into Russia's embassy. Like, it could not have been more of a failure. The good news is she barters diplomatic immunity using her wit and charm, but the bad news is that her contact is secretly a cabal member, who definitely wants to kill her on the airplane over to Moscow. So, all in all not a great day for Liz.

Red Takes a Bunch of Randoms Hostage, Ressler Remains Confused
As we all know, Ressler is the worst FBI agent of all time, and he basically has no idea what he's doing with himself. Sure, he manages to save Liz by intercepting her ride to the airport, but then he loses her because he has no idea how to run / use his legs. Since Ressler never learned how to chase people, Liz manages to book it over to a coffee shop where she finds Red - but it's only a few minutes before Ressler shows up and ruins everything. Poor Red's forced to take everyone hostage due to Ressler's ineptitude, but he gets a few demands in for good measure. Most important among them? Bring in corrupt lawyer, Marvin Gerard, or a hostage dies every half hour.

Ressler Continues to Be Terrible at His Job, Miraculously Hasn't Been Fired
Spoiler alert: Red is a genius. Turns out he set up the entire hostage situation as a jail break, conning Ressler into getting him a lawyer in the process. Oh, Ress. One day you'll get better at this job! While we don't know what purpose Gerard will serve this season, we do know that Liz and Red have set sail to lands unknown. We can only assume they're traveling to Europe to buy Red some more fedoras.

Two Words: TOM KEEN
The best day of your life is here: Tom Keen is back on "The Blacklist," and showed up just to chat with Ressler. Who knows what these two could have to talk about other than their mutual crush on Liz, but maybe they'll actually get something done for once. Either way we're excited - though the fact that Dembe is currently being tortured in a warehouse is kind of putting a damper on things. Will he crack and give the cabal Red's location? Probably, because the sock weapon he was repeatedly hit with doesn't look like fun times.

Burning Questions....
1. Where are Liz and Red going? We know Red has connections everywhere, but they can't just peace out to another country without anyone noticing, right?

2. What does Tom want with Ressler? We assume he's Team Liz, so hopefully he's there to change Ressler's mind. Expect lots of awkwardness since both these men are clearly in love with The Blacklist's leading lady.

3. Is Dembe OK? Because we're getting worried.

4. Who is in charge of the cabal and what do they want with Red - other than to seek revenge for exposing The Fulcrum?
