Posted: 30 Mar 2015 09:00 PM PDT You might recognize the tall, thin, strong-jawed actor/clown/comedian Bill Irwin as Ham Gravy in Popeye, as Mr. Leeds in Lady in the Water, as Anne Hathaway's dad in Rachel Getting Married, or even as Mr. Noodle on Sesame Street. However, there's one role where you simply will not recognize him: as TARS the robot in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. Many may think that TARS was just a CGI creation that Irwin voiced, but the reality is that the robot was actually a practical effect puppeteered by Irwin on set. We recently caught up with the actor ahead of this week's Blu-ray, DVD and DigitalHD release of Interstellar to talk about how he got the odd job, what it's like working with Nolan and whether or not the director's movies are really as secretive... If Classic Horror Movie Posters Came to Life Posted: 30 Mar 2015 06:00 PM PDT Motion posters, aka Mosters, are a cool new addition to the marketing materials that come out in promotion of major movies. Just recently we got one for Terminator Genisys that features Arnold Schwarzenegger getting his skin blown off to reveal the robot skeleton within. Although the concept has been around for a decade now, Hollywood and the movie theater industry really got on board with the idea in the last few years. They definitely weren't around 30 years ago -- but what if they had been? An artist on Imgur who goes by the name SamRAW08 recently posted a bunch of animated versions of old horror movie posters from the 1970s and 1980s, and they would all look really cool on display at either the local multiplex or revival house. Many of them are rather subtle, kind of... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch: If You've Ever Used a Microwave, You'll Love This Short Film Posted: 30 Mar 2015 04:52 PM PDT Ah microwaves, how would we ever live without them? Did leftovers even exist before microwaves were invented? How did the human race even evolve without Hot Pockets? Man, we were such a joke. There are so many different uses for the microwave, but it's one particular use -- the secret late-night snack -- that's at the center of this hilarious short film by Daniel Koren. It's called The Microwave, and it follows one guy in his attempt to quietly reheat some food late at night in such a way so that he doesn't wake up anyone in the house. Check it out. This is one of those short films that works like gangbusters, not because of its unique, fresh take on a certain topic, but because it taps into a ritual every one of else has experienced at one point or... Watch the New York Yankees Recreate a Scene From 'The Sandlot' Posted: 30 Mar 2015 03:00 PM PDT If we told young Scotty Smalls that Brett Gardner played him in a re-creation of a scene from The Sandlot, he probably wouldn't know who the guy is. And not just because he's a character from half a century ago. "Smalls" didn't even know who Babe Ruth was, and if the movie took place today, he surely wouldn't know any of the current roster of the New York Yankees. Of course, in the movie, that little ignorant kid grows up to be a very knowlegeable sportscaster covering Major League Baseball. He has to know who Gardner is, as well as his fellow Yankees Jacoby Ellsbury, Dellin Betances, C.C. Sabathia, Chase Headley, Didi Gregorius and Brian McCann. And he'd get a big kick out of seeing those players redoing the memorable Babe Ruth scene from... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 30 Mar 2015 01:30 PM PDT Wolverine: Hugh Jackman has hinted before that he's ready to say goodbye to playing the X-Men character Wolverine, and now he's given his clearest signal yet. In a social media post, he featured a photo with the caption, 'WOLVERINE...ONE LAST TIME. HJ," apparently referring to the third stand-alone Wolverine movie, set for release on March 3, 2017. [Instagram] Transformers: Rejoice: more Transformers movies are on their way! Akiva Goldsman, a veteran writer and producer (I Am Legend, Insurgent), is in talks to organize a so-called "writer's room" that would come up with ideas for a multi-part sequel series, as well as possible spinoff films for the franchise, giving Transformers its own movie universe. Goldsman would be working with... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
