Reel TV: Check Out 'The Casual Vacancy,' J.K. Rowling's First Non-Harry Potter Adaptation Posted: 27 Mar 2015 06:30 PM PDT The Harry Potter phenomenon may have wrapped up on the big screen for now (a spin-off series is coming), but that doesn't mean that creator J.K. Rowling has just been sitting around, diving into silos full of gold coins. She's been plenty busy writing new material outside of the wonderful wizarding world, and now we've got the first look at an adaptation of one of her non-Potter books, The Casual Vacancy. Those who read the book when it first hit shelves back in 2012 were a bit shocked at how grim, gritty and truly adult it was. And if you haven't read the book, it's only going to take about ten seconds of the first trailer for the Casual Vacancy HBO miniseries, which does feature Dumbledore actor Michael Gambon, to understand why they were... The First Full Look at the New 'Deadpool' Is Perfect, Perfect, Perfect Posted: 27 Mar 2015 03:40 PM PDT You don't even have to be a hardcore, know-every-detail comic fan to know that the Deadpool that first showed up in X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn't really the Deadpool from the comics. The comic version is a fully-masked madman hero with a death wish and a biting, meta sense of humor. The Wolverine version was a kind of angsty, ultrapowered mutant who traded a full body suit for some scar tissue that covered up his mouth so he couldn't even talk. So you can imagine that it's with quite a lot of relief that fans now get to see the first official, full body look at the new, rebooted Deadpool (who is still being played by Ryan Reynolds). Not only is his costume a very faithful recreation of the pen-and-ink version fans have known for two decades, but the recreation... Watch: Jake Gyllenhaal Is Ferocious and Ripped In the First 'Southpaw' Trailer Posted: 27 Mar 2015 01:30 PM PDT If there's one actor in Hollywood who's on a heckuva hot streak right now, it's Jake Gyllenhaal. He is in what you'd call "a zone" in terms of his role choices and performances, dialing it up a notch for each one -- from End of Watch to Prisoners to Enemy to the fantastic, shoulda-been-Oscar-nominated Nightcrawler, the dude is killin' it right now. And here comes Southpaw, in theaters July 11. The first trailer for the Antoine Fuqua-directed film feels a bit like a Rocky movie at first, with Gyllenhaal playing a banged-up boxer with a chip on his shoulder whose family wants him to slow it down before things are taken too far. And then...yeah, things are taken a bit too far, leading to a family member's death, an estranged... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 27 Mar 2015 12:00 PM PDT The Billionaire's Vinegar: Matthew McConaughey is attached to star in The Billionaire's Vinegar, based on a true story about a very expensive cache of wine, supposedly once owned by Thomas Jefferson. The two main characters are a music manager turned wine dealer, and a billionaire who questions the origin of the wine. Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (3:10 to Yuma) have written the screenplay, based on a book by Benjamin Wallace; Will Smith will serve as one of the producers. [Deadline] Force Majeure: Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in talks to star in an English-language remake of Force Majeure, a Swedish-language drama that was released last year. The original film revolved around a family on vacation in the French Alps; when an avalanche threatens, the husband panics...
