The Geek Beat: We're About to Enter the Season of Movie Reboots Posted: 25 Mar 2015 11:00 PM PDT Spring is a time for rebirth. Animals are crawling out of their dens after a long hibernation and flowers are beginning life anew – and this year, that over-arching sense of rebirth that comes with the season apparently applies to geeky movies, too. Reboots and sequels are certainly nothing new to fans of sci-fi and superhero fare, but this season – and the year as a whole, really – seems uniquely jam-packed with famous, long-dormant franchises being rekindled on the big screen and all manner of other new beginnings in the movie world. From Mad Max and the Marvel movie-verse to Star Wars and The Terminator, fresh starts are the theme of 2015, and this cinematic renewal kicks off in a big way this spring. In just a few weeks, Avengers: Age of Ultron begins the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Super Troopers 2' Is Officially Happening After Reaching Fundraising Goal in Just 24 Hours Posted: 25 Mar 2015 08:51 PM PDT Update: In just one day, the fundraising campaign for Super Troopers 2 reached its initial $2 million goal, thus making it official: Super Troopers 2 is happening, as per the below image. Considering the fact that we're only 24 hours into the fundraising efforts, chances are good that the boys will receive well over their $2 million goal, making it so Super Troopers 2 will become the "best movie ever." Previously: You've been dying for a Super Troopers sequel for years, if only because you've simply run out of Halloween costumes inspired by the movie. In the fourteen years since it was released, you've dressed up as all of the main officers, plus the bear in the woods, the two Germans who get pulled over for speeding, and the guy who gives... Steven Spielberg to Direct the Nostalgic Sci-Fi Adventure 'Ready Player One' Posted: 25 Mar 2015 06:45 PM PDT Steven Spielberg has been tapped by Warner Bros. to direct the long-gestating adaptation of the nostalgia-heavy Ready Player One. It's currently scheduled to be his next movie after The BFG, which will be arriving in 2016 so don't expect this until 2017 at the earliest. Before all that, though, Spielberg has Bridge of Spies set to hit theaters on October 16, 2015. If you were born in the '70s or early '80s and consider yourself a film geek, you may want to pick up a copy of Ernie Cline's highly entertaining Ready Player One. It's about a billionaire game designer who dies and leaves his fortune to the first person who can solve all his clues and find the easter egg hidden inside his insanely popular Second Life-type virtual reality game. The game... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Idris Elba in Talks to Play the 'Star Trek 3' Villain Posted: 25 Mar 2015 05:23 PM PDT Why are we showing you this totally authentic photo of Idris Elba as a Klingon? Because Idris Elba is now the latest actor rumored to be playing the bad guy in Star Trek 3, directed by Fast & Furious franchise rejuvenator Justin Lin. And since there's only a few months between now and when the movie is expected to start filming, we figured we'd be generous with our expert Photoshop skills and do Lin a solid by showing him what Elba would actually look like as a Klingon. We're pretty sure no one at Paramount, Skydance, or Bad Robot will have thought to do this yet, so you're all very welcome. According to Variety, Elba has entered talks with the folks behind the upcoming movie to play someone who is sure to throw a wrench in all of Captain Kirk's... Watch: Meet the Kid Who Claims to Be the Reincarnation of a 1930s Hollywood Actor Posted: 25 Mar 2015 04:17 PM PDT The joke about reincarnation has always been that too many people make claim to having been famous in past lives. They were Cleopatra or Abraham Lincoln or someone of such historical notoriety. Now a little boy from Oklahoma says he was a Hollywood actor in the 1930s. But he wasn't Clark Gable or Greta Garbo or Cary Grant or Mae West. He was an extra with no lines in West's movie debut, however. The name of the guy he pointed out as himself in an image from 1932's Night After Night: Marty Martyn. The kid, Ryan Hammons, recently appeared with his mother on Today to tell the unbelievable story. When he was four years old, he began having nightmares related to his reincarnation, and a year later he told his mother he believed he was a Broadway dancer who went to... First Look: Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice' Posted: 25 Mar 2015 01:57 PM PDT Boom! There it is, folks -- courtesy of Entertainment Weekly comes our first official look at Jesse Eisenberg as iconic villain (and Superman arch-nemesis) Lex Luthor in the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, due out on March 25, 2016, exactly one year from today. On Eisenberg's Lex Luthor versus other incarnations of the character, director Zack Snyder told EW that he's unlike any Lex we've seen before... "other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course.” He is indeed bald, which this image finally confirms, and this movie won't be the last we see of the character either, as Eisenberg is rumored to be reprising the role for 2016's other major DC movie... 'Maggie' Trailer: Here's What an Arnold Schwarzenegger Zombie Movie Looks Like Posted: 25 Mar 2015 01:30 PM PDT What would you do if you were a father whose daughter was infected with a virus that was slowly turning her into a flesh-eating zombie? In Maggie, Arnold Schwarzenegger trades his action-movie bravado for a quieter, more emotional role as a dad who's just trying to protect his sick daughter (Abigail Breslin) from those looking to do her harm. The film, which will premiere at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival in April before arriving in a limited amount of theaters on May 8, has just released a somber, low-key trailer that reveals a very different side of the Schwarzenegger we're used to seeing. It also promises to be unlike most zombie movies (and TV shows) of late, and that's refreshing. Check it out. Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 25 Mar 2015 12:20 PM PDT A Star Is Born: Bradley Cooper is in negotiations to direct and star in a new version of A Star Is Born, with the hope that Beyonce Knowles will co-star with him. The actor will be making his directorial debut; the singer was previously touted for the female lead when Clint Eastwood was under consideration to direct, which is also when Cooper was first approached for the male lead. If all goes well, this will be the third version of a movie about a doomed romance between a rising female star and a falling male star. [Deadline] The Trap: Idris Elba will replace Jamie Foxx as a 'gangster rap artist' in The Trap, to be directed by Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers). Benicio Del Toro is set to co-star as the musician's best friend, who took the blame for a crime... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
