DC's 'Justice League' Gets Shortened Title, Will Be the End of a Trilogy

Posted: 06 Jun 2016 09:00 PM PDT

For a while, it seemed Hollywood was going to keep making movie titles longer and longer and longer. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is one of those recently exemplifying the trend, in a bad way. But perhaps we're headed in a new direction. One where even Batman v Superman's own mega-franchise is learning to be more simple and concise. According to a recent tweet by DC Comics Chief Creative Officer (and DC Films co-head) Geoff Johns, the title of the Justice League movie is just plain Justice League.  Previously we'd been led to believe the movie was the first installment of a two-part project. It was being called Justice League Part One (or Justice League: Part One or Justice League, Part One, etc.). And the follow-up was then to be Justice League...

Marvel's Unused Version of Black Panther Almost Loooked Like an Alien

Posted: 06 Jun 2016 07:30 PM PDT

We're big fans of alternate movie history. For example, what Wonder Woman looked like in George Miller's abandoned Justice League movie. Or how if Sir Ian McKellen had accepted the offer to be in Mission: Impossible 2, he may never have been Magneto or Gandalf. Those are pretty major alternate reality movie changes, though. Sometimes the way things could have played out are purely cosmetic. We've already seen a proposed, but unused, design for the bad guy in Captain America: Civil War, and now we've got a look at an alternate version of one of the good guys. These Black Panther pitches come from artist Jerad S. Marantz (via Screen Rant), who was working in Marvel's visual development team during Civil War's production. Obviously they're not...

John Boyega Will Cancel the Next Apocalypse In 'Pacific Rim 2'

Posted: 06 Jun 2016 06:00 PM PDT

Pacific Rim is the kind of movie whose spectacle and literally larger-than-life characters demands a franchise. That's why it's a special kind of frustrating to see Transformers movies come out seemingly left and right while a sequel to the far more original giant robot movie struggles to get off the ground. The reasons for Pacific Rim 2's slow start, though, aren't entirely box office related. Legendary Pictures, who produced the first film, shifted its partnership with Warner Bros. to Universal, which is a level of lawyers and paperworks and contracts that would surely make anybody's head spin. And in addition to the studio shift, there was a director shift from Guillermo del Toro to Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix's Daredevil), which always comes with its...

A 'Splash' Remake Is Coming with One Major Twist

Posted: 06 Jun 2016 03:00 PM PDT

The idea for 1984's Splash was originally conceived during a late night drive in 1977 after producer Brian Glazer was left wondering what would happen if he met a mermaid and fell in love. Cut to seven years later -- after many in Hollywood rejected the concept -- and the film Splash was born, starring Tom Hanks as a lowly everyman who falls for a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) while also trying to protect her from nefarious individuals out to capture her. Oh, and John Candy is awesome as Hanks' best friend. Now cut to 2016 and Glazer seems to be back in the Splash game, telling CNBC's Carl Quintanilla (during Quintanilla's new show BINGE) that he's remaking the '80s classic, only this time they're switching it up by making the film follow the point-of-view of...
