The Last Horror Blog: 'Blood Feast' Trailer, 'Stakeland' Sequel News and Summer Picks

Director teases What We Do In The Shadows sequel – What We Do In The Shadows is one of my favorite films of the past few years – so news that director Taika Waititi is working on a sequel is like the best thing ever. Waititi offered up details about the new film, which will focus on werewolves instead of vampires, in a recent interview with us. Here’s what he had to say: “The status update is we're still talking about ideas for it. Much like Shadows – I mean it hope it doesn't take us that long – but a lot of this one is going to be us going, 'What about this idea? What about this other idea?' until we have enough ideas written down that we might be able to write a script. Also...

Sequel Trailer Roundup: 'Inferno,' 'Mechanic: Resurrection' and 'Ouija: Origin of Evil'

Posted: 23 Jun 2016 08:00 PM PDT

We've got a big sequel coming out this weekend, so it appears Hollywood thinks it's a good time to release trailers for other upcoming follow-ups. Check out new spots for the next installments of the Da Vinci Code, Mechanic, and Ouija below.   Inferno  Symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) finally returns to the big screen this fall with the latest Dan Brown adaptation. This time he's joined by future Star Wars icon Felicity Jones in an adventure based around Dante's titular work -- which is apparently not fiction but prophecy! "Dante describes hell and basically creates the modern horror film at the same time," director Ron Howard says of the poet. He also says you don't have to have seen the other...

Original 'Splash' Director Ron Howard Is Also Heavily Involved in the Planned Remake

Posted: 23 Jun 2016 06:00 PM PDT

Recently producer Brian Grazer revealed that plans were afoot for a remake of the 1984 comedy, Splash, a very literal fish-out-of-water story about a female mermaid (Daryl Hannah) who reunites with the man (Tom Hanks) she rescued when he was a boy. She's thrust into a world full of things she doesn't understand and people who may not always have the best intentions. Grazer confirmed that the remake will include a major twist on the original concept, and that one big star is already attached. Original Splash helmer Ron Howard revealed to Fandango during a recent chat about his next movie, Inferno, that he's been right in the mix alongside Grazer hashing out the particulars of the remake. "I’ve been in on all of those...

Listen: The New 'Ghostbusters' Theme Song Mashes Together Two Unexpected Artists

Posted: 23 Jun 2016 04:30 PM PDT

A lot of pop culture news these days has people wondering what year it is. There's a new Independence Day movie coming out this week. There's an Uncle Buck show on TV. A new season of The X-Files just hit Blu-ray. A new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is in theaters. Pee-Wee just made a new movie. We're constantly haunted by ghosts of pop culture past. Oh, hey, did you hear there's a new Ghostbusters coming out soon? You may not have. It's not like anyone is talking about it or has any very vocal opinions about it despite having not seen the actual movie. But if a new Ghostbusters movie featuring appearances from Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson wasn't enough to make you feel like time stopped over a decade ago, how about this: the new...

Posted: 23 Jun 2016 03:00 PM PDT

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly takes a deep dive into this December's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, fleshing out the story, the new characters and that one massive villain who'll be returning to a live-action Star Wars movie for the first time since we witnessed his birth in 2005's Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith: Darth Vader. EW now has a breakdown of Vader's role in the film, including further confirmation that he'll once again be voiced by James Earl Jones, who provided the voice of Vader in all of the live-action Star Wars movies, in addition to his recent reprisal of the role on the animated series Star Wars Rebels. According to Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy, Vader will be used very little in the film, so much so that...

Dwayne Johnson Rumored for 'The Wolf Man'

Posted: 23 Jun 2016 01:30 PM PDT

What is happening with Universal's rebooted monster universe? A new rumor about The Wolf Man confirms a likely strategy for the studio. According to Deadline: "There are persistent rumors Universal wants [Dwayne Johnson] howling at the moon when it gets around to the Wolf Man movie that is part of its classic monsters franchise revival plans." Johnson is already incredibly busy, but if these rumors prove to be true, the casting of Johnson would confirm that Universal is building their new action-thriller monster movies around big stars. That makes sense, since the goal is evidently to reach wider audences than might be expected for straightforward horror movies. Tom Cruise, for example, is already busy starring in The Mummy, now in production. Russell Crowe is...
