'X-Men: Apocalypse' Concept Art Reveals a Darker, More Brooding Villain

Posted: 24 Jun 2016 07:30 PM PDT

Costumes in comic book movies are always hard to pull off. What looks great and iconic as a 2D sketch on a piece of paper may not translate very well to a live-action world. That said, Bryan Singer's X-Men movies have had a consistently harder go of cracking the comic's colorful costumes than other franchises. That's partly due to the very first X-Men coming out after The Matrix, when black leather was all the rage and color was uncool.  Matthew Vaughn started to bring in some splashes of color with the '60s-set First Class, and those designs have survived somewhat into its sequels, with the most recent Apocalypse having the most funky, playful costumes yet in an X-Men movie. One of the funkiest elements is Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse himself, who looks...

Comics on Film: Does Marvel Care About Its Shared-Universe TV Shows?

Posted: 24 Jun 2016 03:00 PM PDT

In addition to giving us big blockbuster event films to look forward to a few times a year, one of the best elements of Marvel Studios as a production house is its creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Iron Man was first released in May of 2008, few people could've predicted the massive, multi-genre film series that would quickly follow, in addition to the fact that it led to the juggernauts that are known as the Avengers films. There was definitely an added level of excitement from fans when it became clear that the Marvel Cinematic Universe  – or "MCU" – would also lead to adaptations on the small screen in addition to the large one. Not only that, but the primary ABC series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D...

See New 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Photos

Up first is a shot of Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso (top), an outlaw recruited by rebellion leaders to steal plans of the Death Star. Note that her uniform is meant to disguise her true intentions.   Next we see heroic comrades Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen, the former as blind warrior monk Chirrut Imwe and the latter as Baze Malbus...
