There have been some really BAD super villain movie costumes over the years, but not every bad guy costume has been a dud. Some costumes have been both spectacular and memorable, blending the actor and character into one seamless, cohesive unit.
To be considered for this list we’ve judged the costumes based on the following criteria:
1. How faithful is the costume to the source material? – The costume is allowed to deviate from the original design, IF the original concept is still present (i.e., no hooker Catwoman in ripped pants).
2. How does it come across onscreen? – The costume should be visually appealing and look realistic (i.e., no Riddler in a spandex onesie).
3. How well does it hold up over time? – The costume needs to be worthy of staying on ...
The upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, Jimi: All Is By My Side, is an intriguing candidate for many reasons; chief among them, it’s a Hendrix biopic starring André ’3000′ Benjamin, whose performance as the eponymous musician is already drawing acclaim (the footage unveiled so far substantiates that praise). Moreover, as illustrated by the trailer above, All Is By My Side isn’t so much a conventional memoir – it simply can’t be, since the Hendrix estate refused to allow writer/director John Ridley to use any of the songs created by its artist subject.
Instead, All Is By My Side only covers Hendrix’s life from 1966-67, chronicling how he went from being a backup guitarist performing at New York’s Cheetah Club, to breaking out as a music sensation in London – offering “an intimate portrait of the sensitive young musician on the ...

As it turns out, Man of Steel was not just a Superman reboot but the start of something much greater for DC Comics on the big screen. Its sequel, Batman v. Superman, will continue Superman’s story but also star a number of other superheroes, including Batman and Wonder Woman, as well as pave the way ...
In the first three seasons of ABC's Once Upon a Time, the show's creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have made a point of incorporating fairytale characters ranging from classic lore to more modern stories. Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla), and Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) have all been adapted for the series. Additionally, beloved characters from Disney animated films have appeared on the show: Mulan (Jamie Chung), Belle (Emilie de Ravin), and Ariel (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), just to name a few.
Once Upon a Time has also explored non-fairytale characters such as those in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and, ...
Speculation of a sequel to Guillermo del Toro's hit 2013 science fiction blockbuster, Pacific Rim, has been circulating since before the original movie premiered. In the year since the film's debut, reports surfaced of a sequel involving Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) as a villain or a prequel film that would delve further into the initial Kaiju attack. Meanwhile, del Toro attempted to keep fans in the loop by assuring them that sequel talks were persisting and revealing he and Zak Penn were hard at work on the script for a followup.
The conclusion to last month’s Tom Cruise-led sci-fi blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow has been pretty heavily scrutinized and examined by the collective film geek community; we even devoted an entire article to explaining the film’s ending and determining whether or not it does, in fact, violate the rules of time-travel established earlier on by the movie.
Co-screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (who shall next direct Cruise in Mission: Impossible 5) has weighed in on the matter, explaining why Edge of Tomorrow ends the way it does – also revealing that the third act could’ve been even more complicated (or convoluted, depending on how ...
For the last four years, fans of AMC’s The Killing have endured quite a roller coaster ride (both on and off screen). Despite overwhelming critical praise out the gate (read our series premiere review), the drama show burned a good portion of its audience with a season 1 finale that failed to solve the central mystery of “Who Killed Rosie Larson?” The showrunners made up for the flub with a strong second season – and a fitting conclusion to the show’s first case. Yet, the damage had been done and many season 1 viewers simply were not interested in playing catch-up – and AMC cancelled the series (for the first time). Yet, the network decided to reverse course and push ahead with season 3, thanks to behind-the-scenes renegotiating, and The Killing showrunners delivered a gripping third chapter.
It’s a good time to be alive for those who grew up in the eighties and bought a lot of action figures. Love them or hate them, the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies garner big production budgets and attract older fans and younger audiences alike. Hopefully it won’t be too long before the pop culture nostalgia cycle catches up to the 1990s and we finally get the Biker Mice From Mars movie that everyone has been waiting for.
On the other hand, Hollywood might actually have skipped right over into rebooting nostalgic properties from the 21st century, as the first images from the upcoming Max Steel movie have now been released. Not familiar with Max Steel? You’re probably not ...
There’s a reason that amnesia is so often used as a storytelling trope: it not only offers a straightforward outline for a mystery tale as the protagonist tries to learn about their past and how they lost their memory in the first place; it also means that backstory and exposition can be spread out over the course of the story as new facts are gradually uncovered. Not to mention, it also provides plenty of opportunity for twist endings.
Perhaps the best known example of anterograde amnesia in cinema to date is Christopher Nolan’s film Memento, which was told using a mix of chronological and reverse chronological sequences that left a lot of viewers scratching their heads after the initial viewing. Now it’s Nicole Kidman’s turn to face the perils of memory loss in Before I Go to Sleep, a new thriller executive ...
This summer’s “in-between-quel” Sin City: A Dame to Kill For weaves together four different tales: two based on previously-released Frank Miller Sin City comic book stories (“Just Another Saturday Night” and “A Dame to Kill For”), along with two written specifically for the film by Miller. Above, we have a clip from “The Fat Loss” segment of the new Sin City movie, wherein Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) decides to “go crazy” and try and take down the most powerful man in Basin City, Senator Roark (Powers Boothe).
That clip also highlights that Marv (Mickey Rourke) is part of the Nancy storyline in the new Sin City film, in addition to being a player in the “Saturday Night” and “Dame to Kill For” segments. It makes sense enough that Marv would lend Nancy a helping hand on her ill-advised plan, as he does have ...
In Earth to Echo, we meet three young friends in a small Nevada town, who are facing the heartbreak of being evicted from their community in order to make room for a new freeway. Young video blogger Tuck (Brian ‘Astro’ Bradley) isn’t ready to accept the end, so he convinces his foster kid best friend Alex (Teo Halm) and tech-geek buddy Munch (Reese Hartwig) that they need to take one last Goonies-style shot at saving the town.
Their chance comes in the form of a mysterious disruption on their cell phones – a disruption they soon recognize to be a map. With nothing to lose, and a possible discovery that could save their town, the boys set out on a bike ride into the desert, to ...

Everything Wrong With Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
Just so there’s no confusion (at least among people who read the description), we think this movie is bad-ass. But our motto does not ...
In Deliver Us From Evil, Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana) is a family man and police sergeant in New York City – assigned to the Special Operations division. Known for a keen “radar,” Sarchie along with his partner, Butler (Joel McHale), take-on the precinct’s toughest and most disturbing cases. However, when a pair of seemingly random investigations turn-up shared (though unexplainable) connections, Sarchie is forced to accept that some evil deeds may not be perpetrated by humans; instead, they are the handiwork of malevolent spirits.
A “recovering” Catholic, Sarchie is reluctant to accept that the supernatural tales of his childhood might be real – until he is befriended by a mysterious Catholic Priest, Mendoza (Édgar Ramírez), who claims to have been hunting demons (and performing exorcisms) for years. Together the pair attempt to unravel the source behind ...
There’s still half a year left before the 2015 movie brawl gets underway, so we anticipate that studios will continue to re-position both their heavy-hitters and lighter weight contenders in the meantime. Focus Features, for example, has decided to move Insidious Chapter 3 into next year’s Summer Blockbuster Season (which begins in May), while also putting Tarsem Singh’s sci-fi thriller Selfless in a spot where it stands a better chance of success at the box office.
Insidious Chapter 3 was originally scheduled to arrive on April 3rd, 2015, but has now been scooted back nearly two months to May 29th, where it shall face off against the kid-friendly animated feature Monster Trucks. Much like indie dramas, ...
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is getting pretty crowded on the hero front, with Wonder Woman and Aquaman joining the party alongside the two title characters. With a respectable portion of the Justice League on staff, Lex Luthor could potentially be pretty outnumbered and underpowered compared to the antagonists of Man of Steel – though admittedly Lex is a lot wealthier than Zod. He can probably afford to pay other people to have superpowers for him.
Filming on Batman V Superman began several weeks ago, but due to the shroud of secrecy surrounding the film we’re still expecting more important casting announcements to come. Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) was recently reported to be playing Lex’s assistant and bodyguard, Mercy ...
Into the Stormfollows a group of townspeople and extreme weather chasers as they encounter one of the most dangerous storms in U.S. history. When group of powerful tornados pummel the town, Gary Morris (Richard Armitage), father and vice-principal of the local high school must race through deteriorating conditions to find his lost son, Donnie (Max Deacon).
Along for that mad dash rescue mission is Gary’s youngest son, Trey, who is played by iCarly star Nathan Kress. We sat down for the Into the Storm junket to talk to Kress about going from Disney Channel hijinks to big disaster movies, and how the found-footage format of the film affected ...
