Earlier this year Warner Bros. picked up the Johnny Depp-starring Whitey Bulger biopic from Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnacewriter/director Scott Cooper (currently going by the working title Black Mass), with an eye on releasing the film in fall 2015. The studio has finally settled on an official release date for the project, which is in the midst of production but just last week, formally added Kevin Bacon (The Following) to its already noteworthy roster of talented character actors.
Black Mass is set to arrive in theaters on September 18th, 2015, which is the same date that Universal has staked out for its mountain expedition thriller, Everest. Cooper’s film joins such other projects as Steven Spielberg’s ...
[This is a review of Teen Wolf season 4, episode 2. It contains SPOILERS.]
-
Teen Wolf is back in Beacon Hills after a rocky start in rural Mexico, and with the return of the more familiar locale and the show’s wider cast of supporting characters – including Linden Ashby as Sheriff Stilinski and Ian Bohen as Peter Hale – things start to get back on track in the second episode of the season, ’117′. Unfortunately for Scott and his friends, there’s still the fallout of the magical Aztec de-ageing oven to deal with – and to make matters worse, the newly teenaged Derek Hale has also been stripped of his memories and is very confused as to ...
Where June felt like a decidedly light month in terms of content, July more than makes up for that with a ton of genre features. Horror and comedy fans especially have some intriguing films to look forward to, even if they may not ultimately deliver.
July was supposed to be a big month for sci-fi, but that changed after Warner Bros. pushed Jupiter Ascending to February. Even so, sci-fi fans should be plenty happy with this month’s offerings.
Without further ado here are the 5 Movies We’re Looking Forward to in July 2014.
Every fan of Breaking Bad probably has a pretty good understanding of withdrawal, having watched a show that dealt with it to some degree (particularly when Jesse (Aaron Paul) was trying to go cold turkey off meth) before experiencing it themselves when the series ended. Fortunately, the beloved final episode won’t be the last we see of the world ofWalter White (Bryan Cranston) – a spinoff is in the works, and it will revolve around fan-favorite character Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk).
Sylvester Stallone’s band of aging action stars have saved the world in The Expendables and The Expendables 2, and soon they’ll be joining forces again in The Expendables 3. The next time around, they might have a member of Her Majesty’s Secret Service joining their ranks.
In a recent interview, former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan said he’d love to be a part of The Expendables. Given his four tours as 007, he might be a perfect fit.
Talking with Coming Soon, Brosnan explained that he’s had some casual conversations with producer Avi Lerner about the possibility of appearing in a future sequel.
I said to Avi Lerner, ‘If it works out and you have a good script, Avi, ...
Rejoice, ye super-fans of The Walking Dead: It’s that time of year again.
In 2013, AMC cannily hosted a marathon of all produced episodes of The Walking Dead over the Independence Day weekend. The event succeeded both as easy filler for a holiday known to be a ratings dead-zone and as a marketing push for the upcoming season of the horror series. This year, the network looks to be continuing the tradition with another marathon run of the show starting July 4th.
Announced via a press release, AMC will host the “Dead, White, and Blue” marathon beginning at 9 a.m. EST on Friday, July 4th. The network plans to air all four of ...
Just when you might be thinking that this year’s San Diego Comic-Con can’t possibly get any bigger, Warner Bros. and DC decide to add another huge event to the already packed schedule. On Saturday, July 26th, Warner and DC will team up to present full screenings of the premiere episodes of FOX’s highly anticipated Batman prequel Gotham and The CW’s equally anticipated Arrow spin-off The Flash.
As if the world premieres of Gotham and The Flash weren’t enough to make attendees swoon, exclusive footage from the third season of Arrow will be presented, as will exclusive content pertaining to NBC’s upcoming Constantine series. In addition to the video presentations, members of the cast and crew ...
Transformers: Age of Extinction cleaned up at the global box office this past weekend, so it shouldn’t be long before we start to hear about Transformers 5 making forward progress. Before that film arrives, however, Paramount intends to release a different Hasbro property-based movie franchise installment, in the shape of G.I. Joe 3 – a film that already has a story idea in place, according to series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventure.
The third G.I. Joe live-action feature should have a new screenwriter in place soon, according to Bonaventura – who also recently confirmed that a search is underway, to find a replacement for director Jon M. Chu (who also helmed G.I. Joe: Retaliation). Bonanventura revealed to us ...
A seemingly simple show about a group of community college students has proven to be television’s ultimate unsinkable ship as Community has earned yet another second chance, half fulfilling its #SixSeasonsAndAMovie promise while thrilling diehard fans of the imaginative and laudable series who had started to lose hope.
Cancelled back in May by NBC, series creator and Communie spiritual leader Dan Harmon seemed somewhat unmotivated to fight his most vigorous fight yet to keep the show going, saying that he had been in the “eh” column after the cancellation when the notion of continuing the show had been broached, but that he would “heat up.” After one previous firing, repeated rumors about the shows death and scrambles ...

[Warning: The following article contains SPOILERS for X-Men: Days of Future Past.]
-
Between Captain America 3, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypse, May 2016 is shaping up to be a pretty insane month for comic book movie releases. Twentieth Century Fox wisely decided not to go head-to-head with the other two titans in the ring, which means that we’ll at least get a couple of weeks off before being introduced to the next X-Men arch-villain.
That nemesis (in case the movie title didn’t already give it away) is Apocalypse, one of the first mutants ever born on Earth. Shown overseeing the construction of a pyramid in the post-credits sequence for ...
The Avengers might be capable of avenging the Earth, but it takes a special brew of talent to guard the entire galaxy. That’s the task that befalls the ragtag group of new Marvel heroes in upcoming sci-fi adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, and it’s a task that only an outlaw, an assassin, a maniac, a tree and a raccoon can accomplish.
Guardians of the Galaxy launches off of our home planet and into space with young Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), a child of the ’80s who becomes a (sort of) legendary space outlaw called Star-Lord. After being sent to prison, Star-Lord plans a daring escape with his fellow inmates Drax (Dave Bautista) Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot ...
As the shared DC Entertainment movie universe begins to take shape ahead of a high profile Justice League team-up, Batman V Superman is looking less like Man of Steel 2 and more like a World’s Finest prologue. With at least four Justice Leaguecharacters confirmed for the Man of Steel followup (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg), not to mention a massive supporting roster of characters (Lex Luthor and Alfred Pennyworth, among others) Zack Snyder will definitely need to walk a fine line between telling a compelling Batman/Superman story and establishing a multi-movie hero team arc.
When Doctor Who returns in less than two months there won’t just be a new Doctor regeneration (brought to life by Peter Capaldi of The Thick of It and In the Loop fame), but also new supporting characters and/or other-worldly enemies to boot – along with some familiar faces, both friendly and… well, not so friendly to The Doctor’s cause. In the former category, we have Clara (Jenna Coleman) and Danny – one of Clara’s fellow teachers, played by Samuel Anderson (Emmerdale).
The list of people set to make guest star appearance on the resurrected Doctor Who‘s eight series includes Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty), Ben Miller (Death in Paradise), Hermione Norris (MI-5), Tom Riley (Da Vinci’s Demons), ...
[This is a review of The Musketeers season 1, episode 2. There will be SPOILERS.]
-
Last week’s exciting premiere of The Musketeersset our players in motion, establishing a strong balance of action, drama, romance, and suspense with a promise of more to come. ‘Sleight of Hand’ is a bit more procedural, but continues the upward momentum we all expect from a well-crafted BBC series.
The chameleon-like actor Jason Flemyng (X-Men: First Class) is superb in his guest role, as the troubled former cook to King Louie and Queen Anne. The episode’s title says it all, for this is a story of deception and trickery – but for what purpose?
In terms of character development, most of our heroes and villains remained ...
As Marvel’s blockbuster machine has reached a steady pace, it has defied the odds by bringing new life to even established characters: The Incredible Hulk chief among them. With Mark Ruffalo’s take on the hero becoming a surprise scene-stealer in The Avengers, rumors of renewed interest in sequels and spin-offs immediately surfaced. But if you ask Ruffalo himself, a story as big as “Planet Hulk” isn’t the direction he thinks the studio will – or should – take in the immediate future.
Marvel was quick to temper excitement surrounding Ruffalo’s re-casting as Bruce Banner/Hulk, explaining that for the foreseeable future, it would be the under-served heroes taking the spotlight, instead of giving the ...
After only two seasons, NBC’s Hannibal has already earned itself a reputation for shocking season finales that leave fans clamoring for the next chapter of the story. While its ratings remain fairly modest, Hannibal is something of a prestige project for the network and has been heaped with praise from reviewers, as well as gaining a dedicated fan following.
The show was created by Bryan Fuller, whose TV projects so far have had a rather unfortunate habit of never quite managing to make it beyond a second season. Fuller was responsible for the dark humor of grim reaper tale Dead Like Me and resurrection love story Pushing Daisies, as well as short-lived comedy drama series Wonderfalls, in which the ...

The Three Stooges Are The A-Team!
A very old project from the Haphazard vault – The Three Stooges are the A-Team!
The found footage genre continues to do big business in Hollywood, where films like the Blair Witch Project firmly established the format as a go-to for the horror genre, the subsequent years have seen the idea applied to sci-fi and superhero movies, among others. Cloverfield set a high bar for found footage spectacle, while Chronicle managed to blend epic eye-witness video with quality human drama, and now director Steven Quale is set to apply the idea to a storm-chasing disaster film.
Set in a rural community, Silverton, Into the Storm follows a group of townspeople and extreme weather chasers as they encounter one of the most dangerous storms in U.S. history. When group ...
On a balmy Wednesday in August 2012, Screen Rant visited the Detroit set of Steven Quale's (Final Destination 5) latest natural disaster epic, Into the Storm, formerly titled Category 6 and Black Sky. Since Steven is something of a special effects mogul having worked as as second unit director for James Cameron's Avatar and Titanic, Into the Storm is visually unique in that it's a 'found footage' film, fast becoming a trendy subgenre in Hollywood.
Set in Oklahoma, the entire movie takes place in the span of a single day, after the fictional town of Silverton is ravaged by an onslaught of deadly tornadoes. Needless to say, there are those who seek shelter; while others run towards the vortex testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot. And there are is an adventurous group of high school ...
