Tina Fey Isn't Making 'Hocus Pocus 2' After All

Posted:

tina feyOK, "Hocus Pocus" super fans (who, up until this morning, have been pretty quiet for the past 20 years), let's take a minute: Deadline is reporting that the witch-centered movie that Tina Fey is working on with Disney isn't a sequel to "Hocus Pocus," as was previously thought. Instead, it's a different witch movie that is supposedly in the vein of "Ghostbusters," which only means that it liberally combines horror and comedy in a way that everyone from your little brother to your grandmother can go and enjoy it. (Hopefully it will have a theme song that's just as catchy.)

Deadline also notes that Allison Shearmur, who is currently working on the big live action "Cinderella" for Disney (with Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother), and that Fey is attached to star and produce. Apparently it has nothing to do with the 1993 witch comedy that starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, so, to whoever was really looking forward to this: we're sorry. And it's probably time to move on.

There's no official synopsis for this movie and no intended release date, although, knowing Disney, they should lock down both of those aspects of the project very, very soon.

Fey's next film is "The Nest," costarring her BFF (and "Baby Mama" costar) Amy Poehler. Shearmur's "Cinderella" comes out next spring.

Cher's Outfit-Generating Computer Program From 'Clueless' Is Real Now

Posted:

clueless cher virtual closetRemember when you saw "Clueless," 19 years ago and thought, Gee, it would be great to have Cher's outfit-matching computer program? Well, that very old dream is now a reality. As the Daily Mail (via NY Mag) points out, online fitting company Metail have launched a "digital fitting room" based on the program utilized by Alicia Silverstone in the 1995 film.

Customers who use the digital wardrobe create their own "MeModel" by entering their measurements (including height, weight and bra-size) and then "try on" the famous outfits from the film, including that yellow plaid number that Azaelia Banks modeled recently in the amazing "Fancy" video. When you're done theorizing your ensemble, you can then upload your outfit to the world, through social media (with the hash tag #ShareYourCher).

It's unclear whether or not Paramount, the studio responsible for "Clueless," is involved in any of this, but considering how explicitly the program references the film, surely some dollars were exchanged.

OK -- enough with reading this article, go make yourself over into a teenager from the mid-'90s already!

Clark Gregg Promises a Very Different Second Season for 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'

Posted:

Marvel's
Marvel's "Agents of SHIELD," the small-screen continuation of Disney's lucrative Marvel Cinematic Universe, was, by and large, not exactly a home run as far as comic book adaptations go. Robbed of the astronomical budgets that the films are provided with, it often felt like a TV-movie-of-the-week version of your favorite big screen heroes. But after "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" hit, and effectively disabled what SHIELD was, the series got something of a second wind (in its inaugural season, mind you), sharpening up and taking unexpected chances. On the finale, Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) was given the keys to a newly revamped SHIELD from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), offering the possibility of a very different (and much improved) sophomore season. Gregg admits as much with a new interview with IGN.

"He's a very different Coulson than the guy who everyone knew," Gregg told IGN. "A lot of people who knew him in the old days say, 'He's different.' I think you would have to be different having gone through that stuff. So I think he's reinventing himself and re-understanding himself as a person anyway, which is probably really necessary to taking in the new environment and figuring out what SHIELD ought to be in a way that it doesn't get rotten again."

Of course, there's also some stuff to be said about how Coulson has returned, which still hasn't been totally explained (as far as I understand it), and how that plays into the other shenanigans that will be happening in Season 2. "So we go from having no SHIELD at all, with a director on the run, to a tiny Guerrilla SHIELD with Agent Coulson at its head, and maybe not in his own right head," Gregg explained. "That sounds fun. That sounds like an interesting Season 2." I'll say!

The other thing that Gregg is enthusiastic about is the way that the season will be split up, with the show returning in the fall, then taking a hiatus of probably two months so that the "Agent Carter" series (based on the Hayley Atwell character from "Captain America," in a new series of thrilling, WWII-era adventures) can run, and then coming back for a few episodes in the spring. This will be much appreciated to everyone on "SHIELD" - from what I've heard the shooting schedule and number of episodes almost killed several members of the cast and crew (from exhaustion; don't worry - it's a very safe set).

"I think it's a great idea," Gregg beamed to IGN. "I think in the present age of TV, nobody wants to go down two weeks here, three weeks there. I don't like it. I don't think our fans liked it. It didn't let us keep the momentum going with the story. It's been amazing to watch how much the show clicked into gear, first of all, after the events of Winter Soldier, but when we got to run 10 episodes without a break. You can download the season of so many shows on Netflix in one day -- who wants to take a two-week pause? I don't!"

"Agents of SHIELD" returns to ABC in the fall. The first season will appear on Blu-ray and DVD on September 9th.

The 2014 Emmy nominations will be revealed July 10 and in the days leading up to that big announcement we'll be sharing our dream picks for nods in the big categories. You can find our picks for the reality categories here, Variety Series here, Lead Actor/Actress in a Miniseries or Movie here, Outstanding Movie and Outstanding Miniseries here, Outstanding Guest Actor and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama here, Outstanding Guest Actor and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy here, and Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy here. Today's focus: Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama.

So many contenders, so little space! As usual, the supporting race for the dramatic acting categories boasts a ballot chock full of amazing performances. The actors and actresses of shows like "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," and "Game of Thrones" alone could practically fill all the slots here.

Last year, "Boardwalk Empire""s Bobby Cannavale beat out two-time winner Aaron Paul. Anna Gunn ("Breaking Bad") was also a winner, and we just couldn't ignore her this time around.

Who else joins our list of dream nominees? Here are our dream 2014 Emmy nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" (the sequel to the much more successful reboot) rides into theaters Friday, July 11.

In Other Sequel News, 'Enchanted 2' Is in the Works

Posted:

enchanted 2 sequelWay back in 2007, "Enchanted" filled our hearts with crazy love for Amy Adams and made some serious bank, so it's high time for Disney to try and make a sequel!

J. David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Daddy Day Camp," "Are We There Yet," "Shrek 2") will be writing the script, and Anne Fletcher ("The Guilt Trip," "27 Dresses," "Step Up") will direct. How could this go wrong?!

There's no word on whether or not Adams, who has wowed audiences with dramatic performances in "American Hustle," "Her," "The Master," among others, will reprise her role as Giselle, and, well, why would she? Her career is so crazy good that it would be silly to take a break from her dramatic work to sing for her supper in a sequel.

Meanwhile, her co-stars seem pretty busy too. Idina Menzel is busy still rocking Broadway and racking up awards, Susan Sarandon is holding it down in Hollywood, and James Marsden has a ton of projects lined up, including the sappy Nicholas Sparks adaptation "The Best of Me."

We're not holding out too much hope for this sequel, especially since the news was announced on an afternoon before a long weekend when no one is really paying attention to work or news or anything anyway. Except us. We are.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams Pretty Much Hated Each Other While Filming 'The Notebook'

Posted:

ryan gosling rachel mcadams the notebookLove is strange, even when you're a golden baby goose and a babely "Mean Girl."

All those times people have spent feeling like utter failures that their love lives pale in comparison to the onscreen heat in, say, "The Notebook" should rest assured that the co-stars Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling were sparking in an entirely different way at first.

Director Nick Cassavetes ("The Other Woman," "Alpha Dog") dished some details on the former lovers during an interview with VH1 celebrating the 10th anniversary of the tearjerker. As we all know, Gosling and McAdams dated for years after meeting on set, but things weren't all wine and roses from the beginning.

Cassavetes told VH1, "They were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there's 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, 'Nick come here,' and he's doing a scene with Rachel and he says, 'Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?' I said, 'What?' He says, 'I can't. I can't do it with her. I'm just not getting anything from this.'"

They took a time-out in another room, where the future happy couple "started screaming and yelling at each other" before getting it together and carrying on. As Gosling told the Guardian in 2007, "We inspired the worst in each other. It was a strange experience, making a love story and not getting along with your co-star in any way." He added, "I don't know what happened... Two years later I saw her in New York and we started getting the idea that maybe we were wrong about each other..."

McAdams later said, "We weren't throwing Ming vases at each other, so it wasn't loathing, but our relationship was not what you saw on the screen. I would say that we were both, well, professional."

Welp, guess that's why we call it acting.

'Deliver Us From Evil' Review: Is It Scary or What?

Posted:

"Deliver Us From Evil" is the latest in a long line of "inspired by true events" horror films.

This tale of cops, criminals, and swarthy, renegade priests opens this week to try and scare up some summer box-office business.

So who is this Scott Derrickson guy?
Derrickson is a genre director perhaps best-known for his other true story, religo-horror film, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." He's beloved by many horror fans thanks in part to a very open and engaging presence on social media. His 2012 film "Sinister" did fantastically well at the box office, turning a $3M budget into an almost $90M take.

Derrickson has also written several screenplays, including "Devil's Knot" for Canada's Atom Egoyan. He's also recently been picked by Marvel to tackle one of the more challenging characters in their canon, set to write and direct the "Dr. Strange" film for the megastudio.

Is this really a true story?
Well, that depends on whether you buy that an NYC cop would have a fistfight with a suspect without ever calling in backup, or be allowed to bring in a priest to exorcise a demon inside an interrogation room.

There's an entire subset of filmgoers who (as per "X-files") "want to believe" and want the most fantastical elements of horror films to be somehow tied to documentary truth. From "Blair Witch" back to Friedkin's foundational "The Exorcist," people want there to be some element of actuality into order to then suspend disbelief at the many twists and turns that the stories take.

For me, the most effective suspense or horror films can be based on fact (think "Zodiac" or "Psycho") while very much creating their own narrative. I would have preferred the film to start with "This film is total bulls**t, sit back and enjoy the ride" rather than have to be constantly reminded throughout that it's a preposterous tale that clearly bears little in the way of fact.

What's it about?
Cop finds case has supernatural implications, joins up with a priest, they yell incantations at demon, things work out. You know, like every "Exorcist"-style film ever made, except this one has the soundtrack courtesy of The Doors.

Who's in this thing?
We've not seen much of Eric Bana since his flirtation with superhero stardom in the "Hulk" film. If you've never seen "Chopper," you should definitely seek it out -- it's a tremendous performance (akin to Tom Hardy's take in "Bronson"). He's also fabbo in "Munich," and did a pretty decent job as the bad guy in J.J. Abrams' first "Star Trek."

Here he plays Ralph Sarchie, the NYC cop who finds himself embroiled in a whole bunch of crazy events. He's joined by the Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramírez (known to some for his role in the epic "Carlos," or as a CIA op in "Zero Dark Thirty") as that dreamy "undercover" priest who slings crosses at the demons in his path. Bana's cop partner is played by Joel McHale, the star of "Community."

McHale's buff appearance makes him a decent cop, but his snide asides come across as forced, as if his dry and sarcastic humour is tamed, and instead we get a couple groan-worthy jokes.

Olivia Munn plays Bana's wife, and while she has little to do in the film, she does it pretty well. I loved her on "The Daily Show" and she's the best part of "The Newsroom," so it's nice to see her getting some recognition on the big screen.

Is it scary?
Well, that depends on whether you buy into the film in the first place. There are a couple creepy bits, including some nice prosthetic makeup and a decent sequence set in a dark zoo, but overall it plays as more silly than scary. Derrickson doesn't go for the shock shot as much as some do (combined, as always, with the sudden blare of the music to jar the audience from stupor), but the film still has its share.

The film requires there to be little in the way of light to create mood, and to its credit they make a point that one of the supernatural elements at play is the fact that light bulbs keep burning out. Convenient perhaps in terms of creating bleak cinematography, but at least they try the light switch before walking down the creepy stairs.

Does any of it make sense?
No, not really (and there are major spoilers coming). Who paints their basement? Wouldn't you notice a dead body decaying down there? Bana has a working walkie-talkie, it's a major plot point, yet only after things have gone terribly wrong does he call in for backup. The final interrogation scene is just ridiculous, made all the worse in contrast to the fiction-yet-documentary like "Homicide: Life on the Street" feel and its use of "the box" to draw out a confession.

Hell, what's supposed to be one of the most creepy scary bits is a waddling owl doll trundling towards a young girl.

Finally, there's the Doors soundtrack. Yes, it's a major plot point, but after a while it makes the film feel like a jukebox musical, waiting for another instance where the spot-on lyrics of Morrison and co. can be used to heavy-handedly underscore a point.

So, should I see it?
I know a bunch of horror junkies that love Derrickson's movies, and they seem to once again really dig this film. From the first scenes I was unable to suspend my disbelief, despite going in with an open mind, but for those raised on a slew of crappy '80s horror, you might like it a lot.

For me, it really didn't work, and I found it silly and at times pretentious. I've heard it called "smart," but would point to the likes of "Oculus" for what I consider super-smart filmmaking, a far better (and scarier) experience than anything I found in this film.

Like the soundtrack, this film feels like a bit of classic rock, with general horror tropes trotted out once again so that fans of the original can revel in the familiarity. It's a remix at best of things that went before (originals that I don't have a particular fondness for either). For me at least, "Deliver Us From Evil" simply doesn't deliver.

"Deliver Us From Evil" is now playing in theatres.

'The Killing' Season 4 Trailer: Blood on Holden and Linden's Hands (VIDEO)

Posted:

Rosie Larsen is dead, but "The Killing" isn't! The dark crime drama can't stop and won't stop, and this here trailer proves it. "The Killing" has survived being canceled twice, irate fans, and the "RoboCop" remake, only to pop back up on Netflix with a fourth season. This is supposedly the last season, but we'll believe it when we see it.

Without further ado, here's the trailer for the fourth season, which picks up where the third left off. Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) are super stressing after the crime they committed in the third season. Linden is tormented by what they did, and Holder... isn't. Meanwhile, they've got a new crime on their hands to investigate, and it's pretty gnarly.

Kyle Stansbury (Tyler Ross) is the only survivor of the murder of his family, and while he did get shot in the head, well, he's not looking too innocent. Joan Allen plays the headmaster of the military-style school Kyle attends - perhaps the type of place parents send their troubled (and possibly murderous) sons? Hmm...

See for yourself. And if you're on board for more "Killing," the new season starts on August 1.

Tina Fey Is Going to Make Your 'Hocus Pocus 2' Dreams a Reality (UPDATE)

Posted:

hocus pocus 2 tina feyUPDATE: Deadline has crushed our "Hocus Pocus 2" dreams. The site is reporting that the Tina Fey-starring witch movie being developed by Disney isn't, in fact, a sequel to the 1993 kids' movie as we'd all hoped. Should we launch a Kickstarter?

It's natural to be skeptical of a sequel, especially ones like "Hocus Pocus" that seem like nothing more than a Disney pipe dream. Sure, there have been names tossed around, but there's been nary a detail for us to hang our pointy black hats on until now. According to the insidery biz site The Tracking Board, Tina Fey and her production company Little Stranger have signed on to produce the untitled sequel. Although there's no news about whether or not she'll star in the film, the very idea that she'll be a guiding hand behind the scenes is enough to pique our interest.

Fey's name was bandied about when the sequel news first broke in April, as Disney was looking for "leads in the vein of Tina Fey and Melissa McCarthy." The two story pits witch against witch, as a housewife who's related to the infamous Sanderson gals teams up with a witch-hunter to save her son from the hands of a rival coven. There are tons of great options for casting, especially if Fey and McCarthy signed on for starring roles.

McCarthy is a hot Hollywood property; her new film "Tammy" is already making bank, and she's also got the more serious "St. Vincent" lined up for this October. Fey is obviously no slouch either; she has the upcoming ensemble drama/comedy "This Is Where I Leave You" coming out this September, and is currently filming "The Nest" with Amy Poehler. Speaking of Poehler, how great would it be if she joined the cast as a witch? So great. So, so great. This could be a fully stocked cast of funny ladies!

This is all just guesses and wishes for now, but we'll be watching closely as this sequel develops.

25 'Seinfeld' Guest Stars Who Hit It Big (VIDEO)

Posted:

"Seinfeld" celebrates the 25th anniversary of its series premiere on July 5th, so we felt it was the perfect time to look back at the show about nothing that changed everything. We still quote this beloved series on a daily basis and are indebted to it for bringing us phrases like "low talker," "anti-dentite," and "soup nazi."

One thing's for sure about "Seinfeld" -- the briefly-seen bit characters were some of the most memorable parts of the series. And boy were there a lot of them. Jerry had over 50 girlfriends throughout the show's run alone.

Even though we always enjoyed watching the fab four (Elaine, Jerry, Kramer, and George) in action, the minor players couldn't help but stand out because top talent was consistently cast. Need proof? There are dozens of guest stars who went on to become stars in their own right.

See for yourself! Take a look at 25 guest stars who became famous after appearing on "Seinfeld":

'Better Call Saul' Tantalizes Us With Walter White Possibilities

Posted:

It seems inevitable that until we can see "Better Call Saul" for ourselves, the showrunners will be dogged by questions about Walter White and whether or not we'll get another look at the bald baddie. Even though we're pretty sure that the characters played by Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks will stand on their own, it doesn't hurt to tease audiences with a few Heisenberg-worthy details to keep us interested until "Better Call Saul" debuts in 2015, right? The first hit is always free, after all...

Executive producer Peter Gould gave the New York Daily News a little taste of the straight dope earlier this week, and it seems that they're leaving the timeline open to possibilities. Instead of just taking place in the '80s, "Better Call Saul" will hop between decades -- including the era of time that Walter White spent shaking things up with his blue meth.

"One of the great things about having a time line which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before 'Breaking Bad,' during 'Breaking Bad,' and after 'Breaking Bad'. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on 'Breaking Bad,'" Gould said.

Of course the key word here is "perhaps," and it includes your interpretation of which characters ended up six feet under and how. This is the Internet, so there are plenty of theories about what really happened in that nail-biting last episode. Dangling the possibility of revisiting these characters is a savvy move to keep viewers interested, even though Gould says their show "could never dream of the kind of success that 'Breaking Bad' had and the love we got from the fans."

That's yet to be determined since Saul and Mike are pretty great, but in the meantime, we'll just have to make do with little scoops like these.

'Deliver Us From Evil' Review: 10 Things You Should Know About the Eric Bana Horrorfest

Posted:

deliver us from evil review"Deliver Us From Evil" is the latest sweaty summer offering from Scott Derrickson, the co-writer/director of "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" and "Sinister." Eric Bana stars as Ralph Sarchie, a special ops police officer in one of the most dangerous precincts in Manhattan. Sarchie and his partner (played by Joel McHale) are used to seeing the worst that humans can do to each other, but some of the crimes on their beat have a supernatural flavor to them. Enter Father Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez), a priest who smokes and drinks and performs exorcisms. Sarchie's no believer, but when things start going bump in his house -- and threatening his wife (Olivia Munn) and child -- that's another story.

Derrickson and co-writer Paul Harris Boardman were inspired by the real Ralph Sarchie's tales of supernatural stuff he saw during his career as a NYPD, as detailed in his book "Beware the Night." Sarchie is currently working as a demonologist who investigates reports of possession and performs exorcisms as needed.

Here's what you need to know about "Deliver Us From Evil" before deciding on what to see this long, 4th of July weekend.

1. Joel McHale Is Good at Playing Bad
Fans of "The Soup" and "Community" know McHale as a ridiculously handsome and tall jokester, but as Sarchie's partner, Butler, he's a buff thrill-seeker who prefers knives to guns and Alice in Chains t-shirts to Jeff Winger's snappy suits. He's also kind of a jerk; he wears a Red Sox cap just to tick off his diehard NYC partner. McHale's character brings some much-needed gallows humor to the whole procedure.

2. Eric Bana Is a Solid Tough Guy
Although this performance won't win him any awards, Bana does have a pitch-perfect Queens accent and the muscles to back up his tough guy attitude. Then again, if you're dying to see Bana in real action, you might want to pick up "Hanna," "Munich," or "Chopper," which featured his breakthrough dramatic performance as the infamous Australian criminal Mark "Chopper" Read. Or, heck, check him out in Ang Lee's "Hulk."

3. Olivia Munn Is Your Typical Onscreen Cop Wife
The lovely Olivia Munn plays Mrs. Sarchie, and the mother of their mini-Sarchie, Christina (Lulu Wilson). That's about all she does. Her complaints are nothing new to anyone who's familiar with the marital problems of Elliot Stabler or any other tough TV or movie cop who takes his work home with him. Then again, wouldn't you be cranky if your husband was too busy chasing creeps to come home at night?

4. Enough With the Creepy Kids' Toys!
Everyone who watches horror movies knows that any sort of children's toy that can make noise, will make noise. No matter how loudly Lulu Wilson can scream -- and boy, can she scream! -- the old jack-in-the-box trick is so played out that it's in the trailer.

5. This Movie Needs More Sean Harris
Harris plays Santino, a war vet who brought back a rather nasty secret from the Middle East, and he spends a lot of time being effectively creepy. This might be due to the fact that it's constantly raining and Santino looks like someone whose corpse paint has faded after spending a long night in the woods burning down churches. He's also tough and wiry enough to be a formidable opponent.

6. It's So Earworm-y
Are you susceptible to getting songs stuck in your head? You're in luck! "Deliver Us From Evil" references The Doors and uses one or two of their songs on the soundtrack, so you'll be humming "People Are Strange" for days to come.

7. It's More Jump-Scary Than Gory
There are definitely some icky bits in this horror movie, but it pales in comparison to the violence you might encounter in gorefests like the remake of "Evil Dead." It's not pleasant, but hey, that's not why you're going to see a horror movie, now is it? On the other hand, "The Conjuring" managed to be pee-your-pants scary with barely a drop of blood.

8. But Jump Scares Only Get You So Far
What was quite effective in "Sinister" quickly becomes played out in "Deliver Us From Evil." Whether it's because the stakes just don't seem that high or if the premise of "Sinister" is just, well, more sinister, the scares wear off quickly.

9. Now We're Curious About the Real-Life Sarchie
One thing is for sure; the real Ralph Sarchie is a character, and if this is just a taste of what weirdness he saw while on the force, well, "Beware the Night" just jumped to the top of our summer reading list.

10. Ramirez Is the Buffest, Babeliest priest in the Bronx
Mendoza's such a rebel that he probably rides a motorcycle to Mass. When he's not bellying up at a bar or chain-smoking, he's jogging in the rain or doing countless pushups and other muscle-building things in his apartment. Ramirez got our attention as the star of the mini-series "Carlos: The Jackal," and we can't wait to see him in his upcoming films like "Hands of Stone" and "Point Break." He might even show up in "Doctor Strange" -- though he'll probably leave the cassock at home.

"Deliver Us From Evil" is in theaters now.

Your 'Sherlock' Season 4 Dreams Are Coming True

Posted:

sherlock season 4Yes, "Sherlock" Season 4 is finally a reality.

Fresh on the heels of reports of a 2015 "Sherlock" Christmas special, producers have confirmed that that the BBC/PBS series is getting another season -- or, as they say in the UK, series.

"Series Four!" wrote co-creator and actor Mark Gatiss. "At last! It's always special to return to Sherlock but this time it's even more special as we're doing...a Special! Not only THAT, we'll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before...The whole 'Sherlock' team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on -- again!"

Needless to say we're excited about the return of Benedict Cumberbatch and Marin Freeman, and so is creator Steven Moffat. "A special, plus a new series of three episodes -- it's a record-breaking run! Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect..."

Seeing as the Christmas special will air before the new season, we're looking at a likely 2016 premiere for Season 4. That seems like an eternity. In the meantime, we'll just have to settle for rewatching all of the previous seasons -- over, and over, and over.

Dane Cook's Online Dating, Mark Duplass' Sex Scenes, Doritos Loaded Lead the Late Night Roundup (VIDEO)

Posted:

Here's a look at some of the late-night chatter you may have missed Tuesday night.

It was a pretty quiet night on the late-night circuit. Only Jimmy Kimmel seemed awake and active. Jimmy sat down with Dane Cook, who is apparently trying online dating, including a visit to Ancestry.com, which just didn't turn out right. Jimmy also dug up an embarrassing old photo of Dane with slicked-back hair and a hilariously earnest quote, and Dane shared his plans for the Fourth of July. Apparently he was a very high-strung kid, worried about high wind advisories with the fireworks. Jimmy also pointed out that Dane is getting a big "muscular." Is that a good thing?

Jimmy also sat down with Mark Duplass of "Tammy" (everyone from Melissa McCarthy's movie has been all over the circuit) and Mark talked about sex scenes. Usually actors say a sex scene is the least sexy thing in the world, or it's all technical like a fight scene. But Mark said they're all lying. "We are animals and there are things that happen when your lips touch another person's lips. There are these pistons that fire inside your body and, for men in particular, things can ignite." Oh my! Jimmy started taking notes at that point.

JKL also delved into The World Cup. Jimmy said he's been trying to follow World Cup action, but he doesn't really trust that so many Americans are really big fans of soccer. So he talked to people on the street with Lie Witness News, asking how they think Landon Donovan has been playing (even though Landon was actually cut from the team). Even if the questions are fake and set-up, it's still pretty good.

JKL's wonderful Guillermo also waited outside the 7-Eleven for 72 hours ("and I haven't used the restroom yet") to be first in line to try Doritos Loaded:

Trey Songz also performed two songs, "Na Na" and "Foreign." Jimmy had Trey translate "Na Na" to help older people understand the lyrics. #NewLyricsForOldPeople:

Since it was such a quiet night for late night talk shows, why not visit a loud daytime spot? Wendy Williams, whose show airs late night in some places, weighed in on Chris Brown partying at the BET Awards, Shia LaBeouf's latest bizarre behavior, Kelly Rowland facing backlash for working out while pregnant, and Jillian Michaels quitting "The Biggest Loser" again. Did Jillian's quit have anything to do with last season's too-thin winner? Wendy has an opinion on everything, as usual.
