Bryan Singer teases image of X-Men: Apocalypse script

Posted: 01 Jul 2014 05:05 AM PDT

Bryan Singer has teased a first image of the script for X-Men: Apocalypse, which gives us a couple of snippets of info regarding what to expect from the new film.

Despite Simon Kinberg's recent claims that the new film would not return to the ancient Egypt glimpsed in the post-credits sting of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, there is a reference to the Nile visible in the very first line.

It looks, then, as though the prologue will reintroduce Apocalypse back in his Egyptian pomp, with a reference to The Four Horsemen (also glimpsed in that post-credits scene) also prominently visible.

Needless to say, this is only a very early treatment of the script, but given that Singer has bothered to reveal it at all, we'd suggest this section is probably something he and his fellow writers are pretty set on.

Directed by Singer, who is co-writing with Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, X-Men: Apocalypse will open in the UK on 19 May 2016.

First trailer and poster unveiled for Brit drama Pride: watch now

Posted: 01 Jul 2014 04:53 AM PDT

The hilarious first trailer for British drama Pride has debuted online.

Starring Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and George MacKay, the film's based on the true story of a group of lesbian and gay activists who supported a Welsh mining community in 1984.

If the trailer's anything to go by, Pride is all but destined for BAFTA glory. Staunton in particular stands out, doing a spot-on Welsh accent and landing all the funniest lines.

Meanwhile, West throws some impressive shapes on the dance floor. It's fair to say this is definitely on our 'must watch' list.

Check out the trailer below…

As well as the trailer, the sunny poster for the film has also been revealed.

Pride opens in the UK on 12 September 2014.

First image of Henry Cavill in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice arrives

Posted: 01 Jul 2014 04:45 AM PDT

The first image from the set of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice has swooped online, giving us our first look at Henry Cavill as Clark Kent in the superhero smash-em-up.

Wearing a shirt, tie and brown trench coat, this looks like Clark in full journalist mode, no doubt investigating the nefarious schemes of Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).

Check out the full image below…

A treat for a Monday morning for all our #HenryCavill fans. Henry is a great supporter of the @RM1664Challenge! http://t.co/q4HcEqw0Mr

(If you're wondering what Cavill's holding up, it's a T-shirt promoting the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, who tweeted the picture yesterday.)

The film, which isn't so much a direct sequel to Man Of Steel 2 as a prelude to 2017's Justice League, has been shooting for a month, with Ben Affleck on board as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Information on BvS remains pretty sparse at this point, but you can bet there'll be a fair few epic scraps between the titular superheroes.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice opens in cinemas on 6 May 2016.

Martin Freeman teases Sherlock Christmas special

Posted: 01 Jul 2014 03:15 AM PDT

While the BBC pulled off something of a casting coup in securing two bona fide movie stars for the leading roles in Sherlock, it does make things somewhat difficult when trying to pin them down for filming.   Fans are already eagerly anticipating the next instalment of small-screen sleuthing, but with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman busier than ever, it's proving challenging to find space in their schedules to film it.   However, according to Freeman, there is at least a date in the diary. A 2015 date, but a date nonetheless…   "If that's going to be a special," says Freeman, "I'm speaking off-message here; if this was New Labour I'd get fired – I think that might be for next Christmas. A Christmas special. That's what I understand."   According to Freeman, neither he nor Cumberbatch will be available to film until early 2015, but at least it sounds as though the wheels are in motion for another outing. Now, what about another series, hmmm?

Andy Serkis cast in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Posted: 01 Jul 2014 12:56 AM PDT

Having already signed on to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII, Andy Serkis will add another mega-franchise to his CV by taking on a role in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.   "The Imaginarium (Serkis' production company) is the performance-capture consultant, and I'm playing a role," confirms Serkis. "On The Avengers, I've been working closely with Mark Ruffalo."   "Performance capture was used on the previous Hulk, but not to the same extent Mark is using it now," explains Serkis.    "There are tools and ways of working with an actor that makes them feel that they own the character. And a character the size of the Hulk needs ownership, which Mark has now."   And as to his own character, will this be another performance-capture role, or will Serkis actually get his face on screen?   "I'm not at liberty to mention," says Serkis. "But it's all the same to me. I've never drawn a distinction when playing a role, whether it be live action or performance-capture. Acting is acting. It's just basically what you wear to the set that's different."   Avengers: Age Of Ultron will open in the UK on 24 April 2015.

Pierce Brosnan keen to join the Expendables

Posted: 01 Jul 2014 12:11 AM PDT

Pierce Brosnan has been discussing the possibility of his joining the Expendables franchise, with the former James Bond sounding extremely open to the idea.

"I said to Avi Lerner, 'If it works out and you have a good script, Avi, you know where to find me if you still want me,'" reveals Brosnan. "It's as simple as that really."

"Sylvester Stallone is the one that's given us these wonderful platforms for actors who have and had careers to go play and have fun and to entertain," he continues.

"To bring a bunch of guys together who saved the world, fought the bad guys, and put them all on the same stage, that's crazy good."

"It's just about entertainment. Avi is somebody I've heard about and his movies always have big brash entertainment value to them. You can really change the world and that's great, but The Expendables? Yeah, I'd love to do The Expendables. It's just a kick in the pants."

Should the franchise eventually spawn a fourth film, it sounds as though they won't have to look far for a new cast member… in the meantime, The Expendables 3 will open in the UK on 14 August 2014.

Tom Hardy to join Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant

Posted: 30 Jun 2014 11:14 PM PDT

Tom Hardy is set to re-team with his old Inception cast-mate Leonardo DiCaprio, with the star confirmed to have signed on for The Revenant.

Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the film is a Western based on a novel by Michael Punke, following a frontiersman looking for revenge.

Having been mauled by a bear, the film's protagonist is abandoned by his two companions and left for dead. However, he manages to cling on to life, and when fully recovered, decides it's time to pay his old "friends" a visit…

Hardy is likely to be playing one of those two treacherous souls, possibly having taken the role that had once been ear-marked for Sean Penn.

Will Poulter is also currently in talks over a potential part in the film, with cameras set to begin rolling in the autumn. No release date has been confirmed as yet.
