'Ouija: Origin of Evil' Brings Horror Into the Real World With This Fun, Vintage Ad

Posted: 18 Oct 2016 09:00 PM PDT

If October has you in the mood to watch a new horror movie on the big screen, unfortunately this year your options are pretty limited. For whatever reason, major studios have stopped inundating pre-Halloween weekends with new horror movies. Fortunately, however, Ouija: Origin of Evil, the one wide horror release coming up, actually looks pretty good. Directed by Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus), Ouija: Origin of Evil is, as the name implies, a prequel to the 2014 movie about teens who make the grave mistake of dabbling with a spirit board. This one is set in the late '60s and is about a family who runs a scam seance business who accidentally open up a very real connection to the spirit world. Sticking with the period setting, Ouija: Origin of Evil has put out this vintage...

'The Ring' Director's New Horror Movie Wants to Sell You 'A Cure For Wellness'

Posted: 18 Oct 2016 07:30 PM PDT

Gore Verbinski is best known for making massive blockbuster films with increasingly elaborate action set pieces. That's just what happens when you make something like the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy that goes on to earn over a billion dollars and become a legit pop culture phenomenon. But Verbinski is more than capable of keeping things small and intimate. In fact, he thrives at the smaller stuff. One of Verbinski's finest films is the 2002's The Ring, a smart remake on its own that's also a highly influential and truly scary horror movie. And while there's some surprisingly ghastly imagery in the Pirates franchise that's worthy of a horror movie, Verbinski has stayed away from the genre since that 2002 remake. But now he's back with A...

Chewbacca Gets Violent in New 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Deleted Scene

Posted: 18 Oct 2016 06:00 PM PDT

If you're a hardcore Star Wars fan who already owns a copy of The Force Awakens and needs a major incentive to also pick up the upcoming 3D Collector's Edition Blu-ray, we've got some. First, the special release will feature a never-before-seen deleted scene from Maz Kanata's tavern, and it's a nice little tribute to part of the Cantina scene from the original movie.  Entertainment Weekly was able to share part of the scene, so we've got a little tease already. Rey runs into Unkar Plutt, who has tracked her via the Millennium Falcon, and he's pissed. She pulls a blaster on him, he grabs it from her, then suddenly Chewbacca enters and confiscates the weapon from him. Then Plutt lays a finger on the wookie. Watch up until...

'Captain Planet' Movie Heading to Big Screen, Maybe With Producer Leonardo DiCaprio

Posted: 18 Oct 2016 03:00 PM PDT

Let's return to the early 1990s for a fond, animated memory. Captain Planet and the Planeteeers launched on the TBS cable network from September 1990 to December 1992, followed by a sequel series that ran from September 1993 to May 1996. By today's standards, the animation looks rudimentary. But despite the age of the shows, the focus on a positive environmental message remains relevant today. The series revolved around a diverse teenage team of so-called "planeteers," young people coming from different parts of the world to defend against pollution, natural disasters and bad guys. They were summoned and empowered by Gaia, the spirit of the planet; she gifted each with an elemental ring that also enabled them to call upon the help of a superpowered warrior known...

Watch: Michael Fassbender Becomes an Assassin in Wild New 'Assassin's Creed' Trailer

Posted: 18 Oct 2016 01:30 PM PDT

Video game adaptations don't have the greatest track record, but Michael Fassbender is looking to do something about that with this December's Assassin's Creed, a big-screen adaptation of the popular game about a badass assassin whose wicked skills span centuries. A new trailer for the film has arrived, detailing more of its heady story about a criminal whose death is faked in order for him to enter into a secret program that puts him in the mind of his ancestor, an assassin from the time of the Spanish Inquisition who's been dead for 500 years. Check it out.   What immediately elevates this video game adaptation above others is its strong cast, including Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael K. Williams. The action...

Movie News: 'Game of Thrones' Director Snagged for Sony's 'Mulan'; Watch Fun New 'Moana' Clip

Posted: 18 Oct 2016 12:00 PM PDT

Mulan: We've been hearing about Disney's plans for a new live-action Mulan and now comes word that a rival project at Sony has snagged a director. A previous report suggested Sony was searching for an Asian director; instead, Alex Graves, a TV veteran whose credits include Game of Thrones, will helm Sony's version, which has been scripted by Jason Keller (Mirror Mirror, Escape Plan). Both movies are based on the Chinese legend about a young female warrior, which was adapted by Disney into an animated hit back in 1998 (above). [Deadline]   Molly's Game: Kevin Costner (Criminal, above) is in talks to join Molly's Game. Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba are already set to star; if things work out, Costner would portray the father of Chastain's...
