First 'The Purge: Election Year' Trailer Tries to Murder Politicians

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 10:30 PM PST

When The Purge hit theaters in 2013, people gleefully suspended their disbelief for its seemingly impossible future where America has instituted a policy that legalizes all crime for one night a year. It's one of those ludicrous plots, like The Day After Tomorrow, that you look at and think, "It's so absurd and unrealistic that I'm kind of into it." Fast forward three years and the political climate in America has gotten so unpredictable that the very notion of The Purge weirdly doesn't seem as broadly impossible as it did just three years ago. It's not like we're on the immediate verge of a government sanctioned night of murder and mayhem, but the nightly news these days is shockingly more twisty and unpredictable than the plots of the actual...

The Creator of 'Deadpool' Made an Awesome Mondo Poster (Exclusive)

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 09:00 PM PST

Deadpool is all about breaking the fourth wall and directly addressing his audience with the kinds of references that cause pop culture to touch itself. The character wasn't always that way, though. When Rob Liefeld created him in the '90s, Deadpool won a legion of fans as a mercenary with a biting sense of humor, with the more overtly meta side of the character evolving in comics and games in the years after his debut. But now that the movie is almost out, Deadpool's creator has gotten into a bit of the meta fun himself by creating a stunning, delightfully self-aware Mondo poster for Deadpool. Yes, the one and only Rob Liefeld made a Deadpool poster for the one and only Mondo and it is our great pleasure to show it to you. But first, some words from Liefeld...

Watch: Go Behind the Terrifying Scenes of 'The Witch'

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 06:26 PM PST

When writer-director Robert Eggers set out to make The Witch, it was imperative that the world they created was as accurate and grounded to the period as possible. This way, the witch would be as believable to today's audience as it would have been to the people of the era in which the story takes place. In this Fandango Movieclips exclusive featurette, Robert Eggers and cast members Anya Taylor-Joy and Kate Dickie discuss the creation of the 17th-century New England setting and how it becomes a character in the film. The Witch enchants theaters February 19.

The Art of ‘Deadpool’: Chatting with the Movie’s Credits Artist

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 06:16 PM PST

As a comic book fan, illustrator, graphic designer and the title and end-credits creator of some of the most visually dynamic films of the moment, Justin Harder's living multiple dreams – and bringing them to life for others to share. Harder's lavishly executed and animated title-sequence work has enlivened the credits of films like Thor: The Dark World, The Book of Life and Lazer Team, and his most recent effort opens Deadpool, the film debut of Marvel Comics' "Merc with a Mouth." "It's so important for these superhero movies," he says. "Everyone's now watching to see what these title sequences are at the end, which is really cool for us. The bar is being raised each time." It's safe to say Harder really got into...

When Romance Goes Horror-ibly Wrong

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 05:34 PM PST

We all love to fall in love and to be in love, but sometimes, sadly, things go wrong and relationships don't work out no matter how hard we try. This is a common refrain in many romantic dramas, but when it comes to horror movies, the stakes can be a LOT higher. After all, when sparks fly between humans and other, sometimes supernatural creatures, the consequences of love gone sour may be fatal. In honor of the ardent desire to make a love connection, no matter how fraught with danger, we present our selection of recent and notably well-made horror-romances. They all feature characters who aren't afraid to put their lives on the line in the pursuit of true love.   Crimson Peak (2015) Guillermo del Toro's gorgeous gothic romance revolves around the...

How to Have a Great Date (According to the Movies)

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 05:12 PM PST

Ah, Valentine’s Day. A day of romance. A day of love. A day of investing far too much, time, energy, and money trying to impress your partner. And because you’re a movie fan, everything you’ve learned about romance comes from what you’ve watched on the big screen. Don’t be ashamed, the movies (mostly) have this whole “dating” thing down -- the way the girls do in this weekend's How to Be Single as they navigate the dating world of New York City. Let’s run down some pointers, just to make sure you’re fully prepared for the challenges ahead.   Go to the Movies There are two possible outcomes to you taking your date to the movies. One: you discover a shared interest in cinema, have a grand ‘ol time and...

Watch Johnny Depp as Donald Trump in 'The Art of the Deal: The Movie'

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 04:30 PM PST

It's not uncommon to find star-studded movie parodies from Funny or Die. But they're usually in the form of fake trailers. That is, they're short little sketches. Well, now the site has outdone itself with a 50-minute mock adaptation of the 1987 best seller Trump: The Art of the Deal. It's called Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal: The Movie. It's supposed to play like it's a TV movie made by Donald Trump himself -- handling the writing, directing, editing, soundtrack and starring himself -- and hidden away for the past 28 years. In reality it's the work of Drunk History co-creator Jeremy Konner and features a remarkable cast of character actors and '80s pop culture references. Here's why it might just be the most...

Here's How Deadpool Can Be Used in the PG-13 'X-Men' Movies

Posted: 10 Feb 2016 03:00 PM PST

One of the biggest questions fans have with regards to an R-rated Deadpool movie is whether using the character in a movie that's, say, rated PG-13 will water him down in some way. It's a valid crticicism -- after all, once you introduce this foul-mouthed raunchy R-rated version of the character and then put him in a movie where none of that language is allowed, will that deliver fans a version that doesn't feel as authentic? Could it hurt the entire Deadpool franchise? (And yes, we say franchise because the writers of Deadpool are currently hard at work on a sequel. We will see a Deadpool 2!) We sat down with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld and asked him about this since it's an ongoing debate with all superhero movies these days playing into a larger connected...
