Just recently, news broke that James Wan (Furious 7, Robotech) will be producing the upcoming reboot of Mortal Kombat. As with its predecessors, the film will be based on the highly-successful video game franchise of the same name.

The reboot will be penned by Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) and Dave Callaham (The Expendables). Currently, there are no directors attached to the project, but the next big question is: Who’s starring in it?

One guy who has expressed interest is rising martial arts star, Alain Moussi, who’ll be the lead cast member in next year’s Kickboxer: Vengeance (read our interview with him). Upon hearing about Wan coming aboard for the reboot, Moussi immediately took to Facebook with the message: Huuummmm… Would love to be the next Johnny Cage *smile*

What makes things interesting is that Moussi is a lot more perfect for the role of Johnny Cage than he knows. During early stages of development, the original concept for 1992′s Mortal Kombat was planned as a “Jean-Claude Van Damme” videogame, but after a change of direction, Ed Boon and John Tobias – the game’s creators – decided on making it a standalone, fantasy-themed, martial arts game and Mortal Kombat was born. What remained intact from their original idea was the character who was meant to be Van Damme: Johnny Cage.

Considering Moussi is filling in Van Damme’s shoes for Kickboxer: Vengeance, he defaults as the perfect fit to play Johnny Cage (who is essentially “Van Damme”). So, will Moussi be step in for Van Damme two times in a row? Only time will tell…
