'Super Troopers 2' Reaches Crowdfunding Goal in 1 Day

Posted:

"Super Troopers 2" sped past its crowdfunding goal in just over 24 hours, collecting more than $2.5 million since it launched on Tuesday.

The long-gestating sequel to 2001 comedy "Super Troopers" began an Indiegogo campaign with the intention of raising $2 million in 31 days in order to make the flick a reality. The Broken Lizard comedy troupe -- the guys who created and starred in the original movie -- said that they had received permission from studio Fox to make the film, but would need to finance it themselves in order to have it distributed.

In response, fans of the flick greatly exceeded the campaign's expectations, snatching up rewards (including a $35,000 patrol car and a $15,000 trip to a ballpark with the film's cast) left and right, surprising the comedians and giving moviegoers the chance to see even more crazy shenanigans onscreen. In a series of updates on the Indiegogo page, Broken Lizard thanked their fans for their support.

"We couldn't do this without your help and you have no idea how grateful we are for your contributions, shares, comments...all of it!" the comedians wrote. "You're a bunch of rock stars and we're simultaneously humbled and pumped. Pumbled is probably the best way to describe it."

Broken Lizard also encouraged fans to keep donating to the cause.

"We can make the skinny version of Super Troopers 2 but I think we all want the muscular version so let's keep going," they wrote.

Check out the full campaign here.

It's Official: 'Downton Abbey' to Close Doors After Season 6

Posted:

Earlier this week
, news broke that beloved PBS series "Downton Abbey" would be closing up shop after its upcoming sixth season. Now, the producers of the hit British series have officially announced that the show will indeed end.

In an interview with BBC News, creator Julian Fellowes and executive producer Gareth Neame confirmed reports of "Downton"'s end, telling the outlet that it was time to bring the series to its conclusion.

"We wanted to close the doors of Downton Abbey when it felt right and natural for the storylines to come together and when the show was still being enjoyed so much by its fans," Neame told the BBC. "We can promise a final season full of all the usual drama and intrigue, but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up."

"The Downton journey has been amazing for everyone aboard," added Fellowes. "People ask if we knew what was going to happen when we started to make the first series and the answer is that, of course we had no idea. Exactly why the series had such an impact and reached so many people around the world, all nationalities, all ages, all types, I cannot begin to explain. But I do know how grateful we are to have been allowed this unique experience."

"Downton" will cap its six-season run with nine episodes, followed by what's being described as a "concluding special" that is set to air in the U.K. on Christmas Day. Neame also told reporters that he was "definitely" mulling over the possibility of a "Downton" spinoff film.

'Fifty Shades' Director Sam Taylor-Johnson Is Officially Leaving the Franchise

Posted:

It had been rumored for some time, and now the news is official: Sam Taylor-Johnson won't be back to direct the "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequels.

In a statement to Deadline, Taylor-Johnson said that she was grateful for the opportunity to direct the flick, and wished filmmakers well on the two upcoming sequels, "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed." The director also gave a shout-out to leads Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, with whom she said she forged a close bond.

The statement, in full:

Directing 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie. While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three.

While those words are kind and measured, rumors about Taylor-Johnson's intense dislike for author E.L. James, on whose book series the film was based, have run rampant for months. The director herself said as much in interviews during the "Fifty Shades" promotional tour, revealing that she and James would often fight on set about the content of the flick, particularly James's desire to leave the book's graphic sex scenes intact, while Taylor-Johnson wanted to tone down some of the more salacious aspects to appeal to a wider (and more refined) audience.

It seems that those differences became irreconcilable, though, and it makes sense that Taylor-Johnson would bolt. James is reportedly angling for even more control over the making of the sequels, and we can't imagine Taylor-Johnson would want to go through a similar shoot again with even less freedom.

No word from studio Universal yet on Taylor-Johnson's departure, or who might take her place in the director's chair. Stay tuned.

Here's Your First Look at Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' (PHOTO)

Posted:

Comic book fans have been wondering how curly-haired actor Jesse Eisenberg will look as Lex Luthor in the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." Now, we have our first glimpse of how Eisenberg will embody the character.

Entertainment Weekly shared a photo of Eisenberg as Luthor, and the stark, black and white image certainly bodes well for the actor's portrayal of the notorious villain. The now-bald Eisenberg looks every bit the part, and it's not just the chrome dome -- he stares down the camera with such a menacing intensity that it's hard to hold his gaze for very long.

Some of director Zack Snyder's casting choices for the flick have raised eyebrows (remember the uproar over Batfleck?), but we think Eisenberg looks spot-on as Luthor. As Synder explained to EW, this interpretation of the character is "not any of the Lexes that you've seen, that's for sure, other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course."

Check out the image below. "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is due in theaters on March 25, 2016.

15 Animated Movie Mistakes That Can't Be Erased (PHOTOS)

Posted:

Think animated movies are error-free? Think again.

Most live-action films are littered with little mistakes here and there, while animated films are produced in a painstakingly slow, one frame at a time. So, naturally, it would make sense for them to be completely polished, right? Nope.

Not even these classic animated movies are exempt. From "Toy Story" to "The Lion King," here are some of the biggest "oops" moments from animated films. We're only human.

As usual, all photos are courtesy of MovieMistakes.com.

Best of Late Night TV: Jimmy Fallon's Mitt Romney Impression and James Franco's Thoughts on 'The Interview' (VIDEO)

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Mitt Romney kicked off the late night docket with an appearance on "The Tonight Show," which was surprisingly hilarious thanks to a lil' something called Mitt in the Mirror -- in which the governor talked to his reflection (aka Jimmy Fallon). Let's just say Jimmy does Mitt even better than Mitt!

Time for another edition of Lie Witness News on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" This time, Jimmy's crew took to the streets of Hollywood Boulevard to ask people who claimed to be March Madness fans about a bunch of random basket ball players that definitely don't exist. Prepare for lots of second-hand embarrassment.

James Franco swung by "Late Show" and chatted about the controversy surrounding "The Interview." It was definitely interesting to hear his response during this slightly tense conversation, so check it out below.

Christopher Plummer visited Conan and slayed everyone with his classiness and sense of humor. His story about working in a room full of nuns and Nazis during "The Sound of Music" was hilarious. Must-watch!

Finally, you might have heard the traumatizing news that One Direction's Zayn Malik is leaving the band. But fear not, directioners -- Andy Richter is ready to take his place! No really, just look at him sing "What Makes You Beautiful" with the rest of the group. This guy's made to be a boy-bander!
